This is NOT how a Christmas special is supposed to be portrayed. It's meant to show the beauty of the holidays, but with the Elmo-mania already happening during that time, It turned into a horrific dystopia; caused by a stubborn, immature, naughty 3-year old little brat! Every single holiday! Why teach kids to not have a single holiday every single day when that will never happen in reality?! A horrendous "unrealistic lesson" for too much of a good thing! Listen to some Wow Wow Wubbzy songs. They're the real lesson here!
This movie is about appreciating Christmas. If you see it in a negative light, then the meaning went over your head. I love this movie and my kids love it too. The songs are fun and the lesson is that Christmas is special because it happens once a year and that having Christmas every day it would lose its meaning. It's not an "abomination" as other reviewers expressed.
What was Sesame Street thinking?! We don't have much christmas specials like this, but the Elmo-mania ruins everything! Watch the Aikatsu christmas episodes and the Wow Wow Wubbzy songs instead!

Elmo wishes that every day is Christmas, wreaking havoc on the world. But why did they put Harvey Fierstein in a singing role? This guy has the worst voice I've ever heard!
Since this classic Sesame Street holiday special has celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, I feel that I should write a review for it. Back when it permeated on PBS and got released on VHS in '96, I remember recording it and watching it practically every day up until Christmas Day. This would also be the very first Sesame Street holiday special featuring everyone's favorite furry red monster..
After rescuing Santa Claus (Charles Durning) from being stuck in his chimney, Elmo gets three wishes. One of them he uses to have Christmas every day. With his new reindeer friend, Lightning, Elmo goes on a journey to actually see what Christmas every day was a great idea.
The late Dr. Maya Angelou, who has appeared on Sesame Street time and time again during the '90s, did a wonderful job narrating the story. Another celebrity I liked from the special was Harvey Fierstein as the Christmas/Easter bunny.
Elmo Saves Christmas teaches an important lesson on why you can't have Christmas every day. Watch it and you will find out why.

As Elmo leaves with Lightning to see what his wish will mean for the future, Santa mentions he's going down chimneys again that night. But Elmo just left with Lightning, who was Santa's only way of getting back to the North Pole.

Santa Claus: [to Elmo] You got 2 more wishes, son. Don't waste them.
