‘Spaceballs 2’ Will Be First Movie for Rick Moranis in 30 Years
Image
As the sequel to Spaceballs dropped its first teaser trailer this week, many of the headlines focused on the return of Mel Brooks — about to celebrate his 99th birthday! — as Yogurt. There’s Mel in the sneak peek, looking spry in his Spaceballs: The Sweatshirt outfit.

While performing at Brooks’ age is a crazy accomplishment, we’ve seen him continue to act in recent years on shows like Only Murders in the Building and his own History of the World: Part II. The genuinely remarkable cast announcement for Spaceballs 2 is the return of Rick Moranis as Dark Helmet.

Moranis, one of the most successful comedy actors of the 1980s thanks to films like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, hasn’t been seen on the big screen since 1996’s Big Bully with Tom Arnold.

The actor began phasing out of public life after his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky,...

Rick Moranis Could Have Been an Animated Demon Slayer, But Adult Swim Said No
Image
Rick Moranis could have come out of retirement to voice a demon-slaying version of himself in a bizarre cartoon series for Adult Swim, but the network ultimately passed on the idea. Very well known for his classic roles in movies like Ghostbusters, Spaceballs, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Moranis walked away from acting in 1997 to focus on raising his children following the death of their mother. He has since stepped out of his unofficial retirement with a couple of special appearances, but Moranis almost marked his return with a starring role in a bizarre cartoon series on Adult Swim called The Gatekeeper.

Details of The Gatekeeper were revealed by Austin and Colton Stock of Rare Bird Games in a video posted to YouTube. The concept originates from an Adult Swim pitch contest at Comic-Con 2017, with the pair developing the story while waiting in line. With great energy and enthusiasm,...

Rick Moranis, Thomas Wilson Brown, Amy O'Neill, Robert Oliveri, and Jared Rushton in Chérie, j'ai rétréci les gosses (1989)
Rick Moranis’ long-standing Hollywood hiatus is over, as the actor is set to revisit his Honey, I Shrunk the Kids role.

The reboot, which will star Josh Gad as his character’s son years later, makes for Moranis’ first big-screen role since 1996’s Big Bully. Moranis played scientist Wayne Szalinski in the 1989 Disney classic and its 1992 sequel Honey, I Blew Up the Kid. He also appeared as Wayne in 1997’s direct-to-video sequel Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves.

The actor decided to take a step back from Hollywood a year later after his wife, costume designer Ann Belsky, died in February 1991 of breast cancer.

Kevin Spacey's 'Sexual Behavior' Halted Filming on The Usual Suspects, Says Gabriel Byrne
Kevin Spacey
Kevin Spacey’s alleged sexual misconduct halted production of The Usual Suspects, according to Gabriel Byrne, his costar in the 1995 thriller.

“I did not know honestly then the extent of his violence,” the Irish actor, 67, recently told The Sunday Times. “I mean, he was kind of a joke in that people would say, ‘That’s Kevin,’ but nobody really understood the depth of his predations. It was only years later that we began to understand that was closed down for a particular reason and that was because of inappropriate sexual behavior by Spacey.”

Spacey, 58, would go on to win the...

Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis, and Daphne Zuniga in La Folle Histoire de l'espace (1987)
Why This Cult Favorite Didn't Have A Sequel
Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis, and Daphne Zuniga in La Folle Histoire de l'espace (1987)
The skinny on Rick Moranis: He hasn't appeared onscreen as an actor since "Big Bully" in 1996, and his last feature credit is as a voice actor in the 2003 animated film "Brother Bear." Just don't call him retired.

"I got a call three or four years ago from an associate of Dan Aykroyd's," Moranis said in an interview with Heeb Magazine. "Some sort of producer. And he said, 'Listen, I gotta ask you something, because the Internet says you're retired' -- which is one of my favorites, by the way. [...] I just love when the Internet is wrong. It's the only thing that will save journalism."

That call was about "Ghostbusters 3," which may or may not happen, and will probably be discussed from now until the official end of journalism. The more interesting part of Moranis' interview with Heeb, however, deals with another sequel: "Spaceballs 2."

The 1987 Mel Brooks comedy "Spaceballs,...

Rick Moranis Talks The Spaceballs Sequel That Never Was
When you look at a lot of the comedy actors who were insanely popular in the 1980s, quite a few hit really rough patches in the 1990s only to make big resurgences in the last decade or so - Bill Murray being the prime example. Murray.s Ghostbusters co-star Rick Moranis spent the 1990s making films like the admittedly enjoyable Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (and it.s less enjoyable sequels), as well as the the godawfully repugnant Big Bully. Then he intentionally left acting in his rear view mirror, as a short hiatus soon became an extended break which soon became a complete career change for the Toronto-born actor. While it.s known that his veering away from acting was due to both raising a family as a single dad as well as an increasing number of projects that wanted to use his identity more than his actual comedic...

Kill Speed (2012)
Written and Directed by: Kim Bass

Starring: Andrew Keegan, Brandon Quinn, Natalia Cigliuti, Nick Carter, Tom Arnold

I’m going to begin this review with a warning to the three people out there concerned with the entertainment value of the Dtv movie Kill Speed. I guess “spoiler alert!” is the more proper way to convey this information, so consider yourself alerted (and spoiled) if you choose to read on.

Any movie that begins with Tom Arnold (Rosanne, Meet the Stupids, Big Bully, etc.) dying in an exploding trailer can’t be all that bad. Kill Speed happens to be such a movie. It does, indeed, begin with Tom Arnold dying in an exploding trailer — and the movie isn’t all that bad.

The scene in question features Mr. Arnold (playing against type as an obese slob named Rhaynes) cooking up some crystal meth inside a shabby trailer in the desert.
