Universal Pictures is entering a first-look film production pact with its Twisters star Glen Powell and his Barnstorm production company. At the same time, 21 Laps veteran Dan Cohen is set to join Barnstorm as the label’s partner.
The news comes in the wake of Powell being nominated for his first Golden Globe, for Best Actor in a Comedy and Musical for Netflix’s Hit Man, which he produced and co-wrote.
Twisters overperformed against industry expectations, becoming the biggest opening for a natural disaster film ever at the domestic box office with an $81.2 million domestic start, a $267.7M stateside final and near a $371M global take. The sequel debuted on Peacock in November, becoming the service’s biggest Pay 1 film ever in its first 14 days on the platform.

Quick Links The Plot of 1996's The Arrival, Explained The Arrival Was the Opposite of 1996's Biggest Sci-Fi Spectacle Why Science Fiction Fans Should Watch This Old-School Thriller
There are countless science fiction movies released throughout the decades that have made major impressions on the genre and audiences. Usually, these were either critical or financial hits, with some of them even being a bit of both. On the other hand, one Charlie Sheen vehicle that flew under the radar at the box office is still worth revisiting, despite having not been given a chance when it was released.
Not to be confused with a similarly-titled Amy Adams movie Arrival released twenty years later, The Arrival was a 1996 thriller that took a look at a conspiratorial alien invasion. Feeling almost like a companion to other blockbuster sci-fi movies of the era, the movie sadly didn't get its due when it came out.

The Friends TV show was perhaps NBC’s one of the most successful series, which went on from 1994 to 2004. The sitcom starred Hollywood’s finest actors as the main cast, but the guest roles also included some big names from the industry. Surprisingly a renowned movie star once freaked out while filming a guest appearance on the show.
Before he landed his role of Charlie Harper on the CBS sitcom, Two and a Half Men in 2003, the actor had a successful career in the movies. Charlie Sheen was well-versed in acting, but in front of a rolling camera, not a live audience. The difference was so huge that when he appeared for a cameo on Friends, he initially could not perform.

"The Arrival," the second episode of the third season of "The Twilight Zone," written by series creator Rod Serling himself, poses an unusual problem. The narrative starts with Flight 107, classified as a propeller-driven Douglas DC-3, landing with no crew or passengers, prompting the aviation department to appoint Grant Sheckly (Harold J. Stone) to investigate this curious case. Although Sheckley brings his A-game to the investigation and feels like he's close to the truth, the puzzle adamantly remains unsolved despite the involvement of many talented personnel.
All involved investigators reach a breakthrough when they realize that each one of them, including Sheckly, perceives the plane's seat colors and registration numbers differently. Concluding that the plane is not real, Sheckly tests this hypothesis by sticking his arm in the plane's propeller. When it fails to harm him, all of the staff promptly disappear along with the plane. Unsettled, Sheckly learns that the...

Fringe, which ran for five seasons from 2008 to 2013, is a beloved science-fiction TV series comprised of 100 episodes that contain some of the best intricate storylines and imaginative characters. The series is noted particularly for featuring sci-fi icon Leonard Nimoy as a significant recurring character on what would be the actor’s final TV series. During its original run, Fringe also spawned three comic book series, three novels, and an alternate reality game. The show often received mixed reviews from critics, and viewership dropped from 10 million to 4 million (via NY Times); however, it still developed a cult following and continues to be recognized for its ground-breaking style of storytelling.
Using a mix of procedural and serialized drama, mystery, horror and fantasy, Fringe chronicled the exploits of the FBI's Fringe Division in Boston, Massachusetts. Agent Oliva Dunham, scientist Walter Bishop and Walter's multi-talented son, Peter Bishop, used fringe science and conventional...

The following contains spoilers for Good Omens Season 2, streaming now on Prime Video.
Good Omens fans who subscribe to Prime Video can access Season 2's bloopers now -- provided they can find them, that is.
As reported by Polygon, the blooper reel debuted alongside Good Omens Season 2 itself, however, many of the fantasy-comedy's devotees likely haven't spotted them due to their easy-to-miss location. To access this material, viewers need to select the "X-Ray" option every time it appears on-screen during Good Omens' second season. This will launch either an outtake, a deleted/extended scene, or behind-the-scenes footage. As Polygon notes, some of this content has already made its way onto social media, including an alternate version of the scene in which Crowley (David Tennant) performs the "I was wrong" dance for Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) in Episode 1, "The Arrival."

The following article contains spoilers for Good Omens, Season 2, which is now streaming on Prime Video.
Since Good Omens first premiered on Prime Video in 2019, there's been a lot of speculation about the relationship between the series' angelic and demonic leads. It started out as subtext with the demon Crowley even denying there was any sort of friendship between himself and the angel Aziraphale. Yet, as Season 1 progressed, it became clear that Michael Sheen's divine bookshop owner had long desired more from David Tennant's infernal never-do-well.
Prime Video dropped all six episodes of Good Omens, Season 2 on July 28, 2023, giving fans the opportunity to binge-watch the entire second chapter. While the stakes turned out to be considerably less dire for the Earth, the emotional stakes for Good Omens' outcast angel and demon couldn't have been higher. After millennia of denying even a simple friendship with Aziraphale, Crowley was forced...

Warning: spoilers for Good Omens season 2
Good Omens season 2 features an original story involving Aziraphale and Crowley protecting a confused archangel Gabriel while uncovering the mystery of his memory loss. The season is accompanied by a fun soundtrack, with notable songs including "You Don't Own Me," "Symphony No. 5 In D Minor," and "Good Old Fashioned Lover" by Queen. The song "Everyday" by Buddy Holly plays a significant role throughout the season, symbolizing Gabriel's newfound connection to human experiences and emotions.
Good Omens season 2 not only brings Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) back, but it also follows the steps of season 1 and features an incredible soundtrack, with one in particular stealing the show. After a long wait of four years, Amazon Prime’s Good Omens is finally back with its second season, but as season 1 covered the whole book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, season 2 is an original story.

To an eternal being, four years probably doesn’t seem like such a long time. But to us mere mortals, the wait between Good Omens Seasons 1 and 2 felt interminable. Thank the heavens, then, that today Prime Video brings us the next chapter in the exploits of the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley.
The premiere episode, “The Arrival,” opens with a flashback to Crowley and Aziraphale’s first meeting “before the beginning,” as a title card tells us, when both were angels gazing upon the brand-new cosmos. “Look at you, you’re gorgeous,” David Tennant’s Crowley coos, and Michael Sheen...

Good Omens season two is a story of friendship and love and, to quote Terry Pratchett’s Moving Pictures, “Passione in a Worlde Gone Madde!” Gorgeous-looking, perfectly cast, and full of joy, it’s like a warm hug and a mug of hot chocolate… with a little macabre horror and sketch show comedy bobbing beneath the surface.
Good Omens season one was based on a standalone novel written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, which meant that it was a complete story. That’s why most of its characters and plotlines – Adam and pals, Agnes Nutter, Anathema and the Four Motorcycle Riders of the Apocalypse – don’t appear in season two.
But more than any of those, Good Omens season one was the story of the friendship between the demon Crowley and the angel Aziraphale. They’re the true protagonists of the book, and indisputably the stars of the TV show,...

Good Omens creator Neil Gaiman shares the show's season 2 title sequence, praising the quirky new animation and proclaiming it an improvement on season 1's. Based on the best-selling novel Gaiman co-authored with the late Terry Pratchett, Good Omens was initially conceived as a limited series and debuted on Prime Video in 2019. However, following the positive buzz and critical acclaim generated by season 1, Amazon later renewed the show in June 2021. Set to feature the return of David Tennant’s Crowley and Michael Sheen’s Aziraphale, all six episodes of Good Omens season 2 are currently scheduled to begin streaming on July 28.

Prime Video shared the updated title sequence for Season 2 of Good Omens.
The intro was shared to both YouTube and Twitter with the message "A special gift, because you all have been oh so patient with us." Like the first season's title sequence, the clip is a surreal mash-up of animation styles blending physical props, 3D imagery and live-action motion, all scored by David Arnold. It follows the demon Crowley (David Tennant) and the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) as they travel through various locales, including a war-torn London, the depths of Hell and outer space. It also confirms the title of the premiere episode will be "Chapter 1: The Arrival."

Vin Diesel and David Twohy will reunite for Riddick: Furya.
Ten years after the franchise’s last installment, Riddick, the Fast and Furious star will return to the role he first took on in 2000’s Pitch Black. Diesel will also produce under his One Race Films banner alongside Samantha Vincent, while Twohy is set to direct from his script.
According to the film’s official logline, in Riddick: Furya, the protagonist finally returns to his homeworld, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins by the Necromongers. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new enemy. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.

Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel recently revealed a new piece of concept art for the long-awaited Riddick 4: Furya, teasing a mysterious new character. Widely recognized as Diesel's first major acting breakthrough as an action star, the character of Riddick was first introduced in the 2000 sci-fi action film Pitch Black from writer and director David Twohy (The Arrival). The first film became cult classic, leading Diesel and Twohy to come together again for 2004’s sequel The Chronicles of Riddick. The third live-action film of the franchise, Riddick, returned the titular character to the limelight nine years later in 2013. Riddick’s strong box office numbers and high DVD sales led to Diesel and Universal announcing that they were pursuing a fourth film in the franchise – even with the success of the Fast & Furious franchise taking away the incredibly well-known actor’s attention from the Riddick’s world, set 500 years in the future.

The other nominees include Pixar’s first fantasy, “Onward,” and two entries from Netflix: “Over the Moon,” the gorgeous musical fantasy about the Chinese Moon Goddess from Disney legend Glen Keane (Oscar winner for the “Dear Basketball” short), and Aardman’s “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon.”
With director/chief creative officer Pete Docter at the helm, Pixar accomplished its most ambitious film yet by contrasting gritty New York City with the ethereal Great Before. That’s the pre-birth training center where aspiring jazz pianist Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx) finds himself after eluding death in The Great Beyond. He teams up with risk averse new soul, 22 (Tina Fey), on a journey...

Science fiction is a genre that allows just about anything to be possible. It deals in both high-brow and low-brow concepts, and the range of methods in telling these stories is about as vast as the stories themselves. In Doors, we see a trio of directors attempting to tell multiple stories surrounding a singular event, and to convey different aspects of this event to the audience.
Directed by Jeff Desom, Saman Kesh, and Dugan O’Neal, Doors takes an interesting concept and maneuvers it in some challenging directions—some work better than others. The general premise is that one day, out of nowhere, hundreds of alien portals appear all over the Earth. We have no idea where these doors come from or why, so naturally, the next step is to begin investigating. Some people are sent through the doors, never to return. Others are sent through and come back, but are driven insane by the experience.

A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.
Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.

This Wednesday in the Seal Team fall finale, it was all hands on deck — and we do mean all — when Ray went missing after the suicide bombing of the Tunisian cafe.
In the immediate wake of last week’s shocking explosion, we saw the charred and crumbled cafe, and Ray’s body on the floor behind the fallen table at which he had and State Dept. colleague Olivia Green been seated. And then a figure approached, nudging his body… which was still alive, we saw.

Hulu is kicking off the new year in style next month, with January set to deliver a ton of fresh titles to the Disney-owned streaming service. There’s a bunch of original content landing throughout the first few weeks of 2021, but probably the highlight is the incredible number of classic movies that are going up on the site on New Year’s Day. Whether you’re in the mood for iconic comedies, dramas, animated efforts or sci-fi flicks, there’s something for you on the way.
There are well over 100 films being added to Hulu’s library on January 1st, so let’s just pick out a few notable titles. The full Austin Powers trilogy is among them, and if you can’t get enough of Mike Myers, the first Shrek likewise becomes available. For dramas, there’s Robert Downey Jr. biopic Chaplin, Johnny Depp vehicle Donnie Brasco and Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show.

Welcome to this week’s Nwa: Shockwave review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have three more matches to get to. These three matches, including a Women’s Title fight, will duke it out to decide who was the best of the evening. Let’s rock and or rolllllllllll!!!!!!!
The matches in contention:
Kamille/Cc Chanel Eli Drake/Eric Watts Thunder Rosa/Priscilla Kelly – Nwa Women’s World Championship
Km/Cc: I was a pretty solid opener that may not have had a lot of pizazz, but I did start the show off correctly and set the stage up all nice and pretty.
Ed/EW: I gave Eli and Eric a chance to have a slow, steady bout that may not have always been as ambitious as it could have been, but I did substantiate Eli as a featured attraction and Eric as a stalwart to remember.

This Star Trek: Lower Decks review contains spoilers.
Since it debuted, Star Trek: Lower Decks has made no bones about being a quirky sequel to The Next Generation. Yes, there are Easter eggs from Deep Space Nine to Enterprise, but the tone and spirit of the show is firmly Tng. And, in the finale episode of its first season, Lower Decks brings back a tradition that Tng arguably perfected: The season finale that makes you love the show ten times more than you already did.
The season finale of Lower Decks — “No Small Parts” — is not the best episode of the season. But then again, because this episode is the entire season in one hilarious jolt, it could easily serve as a quick way to get someone into the show who was holding out. Basically, “No Small Parts” feels like a real Trek season finale — not the season finale to comedy series.

Season two of Amazon Prime Video's The Boys is almost here, and since it's been over a year since season one dropped, you may need a bit of a refresher. For instance, remember Popclaw, A-Train's secret girlfriend? Popclaw (who's played by Canadian actress Brittany Allen) was once a silver screen starlet, having starred in the sexy movie franchise Terminal Beauty, but because of his playboy rep, A-Train can't go public with their romance. Popclaw's own reputation was damaged by her drug addiction, and drugs eventually lead to her tragic demise in episode five. Of course, her accidental overdose isn't quite an accident - it's more complicated than that.

This past weekend, the world got a little less entertaining with the passing of veteran actor John Saxon, whose career spanned over an impressive seven decades. A truly singular onscreen presence, Saxon was teen idol turned character actor with a penchant for playing authority figures throughout his diverse career.
If you look at Saxon’s Hollywood résumé, John’s contributions to both the cinema and small screen entertainment are endless, with roles in timeless classics like The Plunderers, Posse from Hell, Summer Love, The Appaloosa, Death of a Gunfighter, Gunsmoke, Fantasy Island, The Big Score, Fast Company (which was directed by an up-and-coming David Cronenberg), Falcon Crest, Running Scared (1980), Beverly Hills Cop III, Dynasty, Melrose Place (playing Daphne Zuniga’s lawyer for multiple episodes), and of course, Enter the Dragon, opposite Bruce Lee.

The pandemic may have pushed back the theatrical release of Pixar’s “Soul” (from Juneteenth to November 20), but that didn’t stop Disney from dropping a new teaser trailer on Saturday, touting the original song, “Parting Ways”.
Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer, follows up his Oscar-winning “Inside Out” with the Cannes-selected “Soul,” which explores the answers to some of life’s most important questions of identity. The musical fantasy introduces Pixar’s first Black protagonist, Joe Gardner (Jamie Foxx), a New York middle-school band teacher who gets the ultimate gig playing piano at the top jazz club, only to fall into a manhole and journey to The Great Before, a fantastical place where new souls are formed before birth. There he encounters precocious soul, 22 (Tina Fey), who rejects the appeal of the human experience. But they team up so Gardner can return to Earth and complete his journey.

FX’s “Legion” has always drawn inspiration not only from the Marvel “X-Men” comics on which it is based, but also from the weirder corners of pop culture. When creator Noah Hawley cast “Downton Abbey” star Dan Stevens as the lead — David Haller, a mutant whose telepathic powers have been misdiagnosed as mental illness — he gave the actor a playlist that included everything from experimental noise music to Pink Floyd. Even more so than Hawley’s “Fargo,” “Legion” has been driven by a visual aesthetic that reflects that range of influences.
As such, the choice of whom to bring aboard as production designer for the show’s third and final season, which premieres June 24, was an important one. Hawley turned to Marco Niro, fresh from the first season of FX’s motorcycle-gang drama “Mayans M.C.”
“He’s a man with a passionate soul,” says Hawley. “In the combination of his Italian heritage and Mexican heritage,...

The live action adaptation of the comic book series Razor has been picked up by Number 11 Films and Lotus Entertainment. The Hollywood Reporter announced that Razor will be directed by Rob Cohen (Fast and the Furious, XXX) who also wrote the screenplay. Razor, aka Nicole Mitchell, was introduced in October of 1992 in Razor #1, which was written and created by Everett Hartsoe with a $1,200 tax return. The cult favorite was originally considered to be part of the "bad girl" genre of comics that cropped up in the 1990s.
Cohen has shared his excitement for the upcoming movie with an official statement, talking about why he chose to take the Razor story on. Here's what he had to say.
"I have loved Razor since its first publication. It has operatic themes, female empowerment, revenge, action, a love story, all shrouded in a delicious darkness that fits our time."

Before Arrival there was Charlie Sheen in The Arrival, which was an unusual piece of 1990s sci-fi
When it came to sci-fi movies, 1996 was a crowded year: at the high end of the budget spectrum we had the invasion movies Independence Day and Mars Attacks; towards the middle we had John Carpenter's disappointing Snake Plissken sequel Escape From La, while Rutger Hauer starred in the cheap and cheerful Crossworlds and the brilliantly titled Omega Doom.
Throw in the startlingly botched Island Of Doctor Moreau, Star Trek: First Contact, and Stuart Gordon's fun sci-fi oddity Space Truckers, and you have a busy 12 months in genre movies. Somewhat lost in the static was The Arrival, a nifty genre thriller which had the misfortune of coming out just a few weeks before the bigger, splashier Independence Day. A more modest and quirkier movie than Roland Emmerich's invasion flick,...

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in October 2018.
Happy Huluween!
Hulu is blessed to have a name that sounds roughly enough like "Hallow." That means it's basically honor-bound to bring the heat for Halloween. Thankfully for the October 2018 new releases, Hulu is bringing us the spookies that we need. The Blair Witch Project, The Others, and Child's Play all arrive this month. And if you're looking for some more wholesome creepies, The Nightmare Before Christmas should do. And if that weren't enough, Hulu is debuting its own horror show - anthology series Into the Dark.
For those shamefully unable to get into the Halloween spirit, Hulu is bringing in some other fun film options. Galaxy Quest, Music and Lyrics, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective should help out with that.
Then of course, are the usual and typically deep TV offerings.
