Craig Ferguson, who is Scottish, auditioned for the role of Luis. According to Ferguson, everyone in the casting office laughed at his attempt at a Latino accent, but it got him noticed at Warner Brothers. He was cast in Le Drew Carey Show (1995) as a result.
The only four characters to appear throughout the entire series are Susan (Brooke Shields), Vicki (Kathy Griffin), Luis (Nestor Carbonell), and Nana (Barbara Barrie).
The character of Luis was changed from Cuban to Russian in the Latin-American dubbed version of the show.
For the final episode, The Beatles's "In My Life" played over a clip segment of the show's memorable moments. In versions aired throughout Europe and other countries, the music was changed to Shawn Colvin's version of the same song. Colvin had previously contributed to the show: her song "Nothin' On Me" was the show's theme tune in the second and third seasons.
On this show, Eric Idle played a character named "Ian Maxtone-Graham". Ian Maxtone-Graham is the name of a prolific television comedy writer and producer; he has worked on Saturday Night Live (1975), Les Simpson (1989), Veep (2012), and many other shows.
