Pokemon Go Update Trailer Features Generation 4 Pokemon
Matthew Byrd Oct 17, 2018

The next Pokemon Go update will introduce a new generation of Pokemon to the game.

Developer Niantic Labs has made the shocking decision to add more Pokemon to the popular mobile title, Pokemon Go.

In a stunning move, the Niantic team seemingly decided that making money is a good thing and that the best way to continue doing so would be to add more iconic Pokemon to the game all about capturing and collecting Pokemon. It's a truly bold creative decision that has led to the stunning news that Generation 4 Pokemon from Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum will soon be available to catch in Pokemon Go.

This particular group of Pokemon will include creatures that sound like they were named by a development team who were about to leave the office for the weekend and realized they forgot to give the Pokemon names. As such, you'll soon be...

Strong Female Presence Marks Venice Days Lineup; Opener Is ‘Graves Without a Name’
Rithy Panh in L'image manquante (2013)
The Venice Film Festival’s independently run Venice Days section, modeled on Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, has unveiled its lineup of 11 competition entries, all world premieres, marked by a particularly strong presence of female directors.

The section will open with “Graves Without a Name” (pictured), a new documentary on the horrors of the Khmer Rouge era by revered Cambodian-born director Rithy Panh, producer of Angelina Jolie’s “First They Killed My Father.” The lineup mixes promising entries from both well-known auteurs and newcomers. The out-of competition closer is suicide-themed comedy “Emma Peeters” from young Belgian director Nicole Palo.

Venice Days artistic director Giorgio Gosetti noted that six out of 12 titles in the official selection are directed by women and said that “female characters play a crucial role in all the films.” But he also said his choice was unconstrained by gender considerations. “We sought the best that we could find and...

Dustin Hoffman
Dustin Hoffman on being difficult, the movies he didn't make and why he's finally directing

Dustin Hoffman is on the phone to his wife. I know I shouldn't eavesdrop, but I can't help it. It's the voice. "Where's your meeting? Good luck. Bye-bye." So slow and deep and rich, like whipped cream mixed with gravel. Even when he started out 45 years ago in The Graduate, as virginal Benjamin Braddock about to be educated in the ways of love and lust, he had the voice. Hoffman is an extraordinarily convincing actor – when he sweats crazily in Straw Dogs, the sweat's for real; you can almost smell him as crippled hobo Ratso in Midnight Cowboy; and when he steps into a frock and heels for Tootsie, you know he's really learned to walk a lady's walk – but in the end it's down to the voice.

And to the choices he has made.

In praise of Robert Hamer
It always rained for the Ealing Studios director, but with the reissue of a lost noir classic, it's time his talent was recognised

Robert Hamer was the odd man out at Ealing Studios. He wasn't the only falling-down drunk there, and I daresay he wasn't the only unhappily closeted homosexual, but his work as a writer and director has a sharpness and bite lacking in the genial comedies we associate with the studio.

The revival of Hamer's almost forgotten kitchen sink noir classic from 1947, It Always Rains On Sunday, may come as a shock to those who know Hamer only through his comic masterpiece Kind Hearts And Coronets. Kind Hearts lacks exactly that titular quality, being a spiritedly mean-minded account of multiple murder by a spurned minor aristocrat. Likewise Hamer's last film, School For Scoundrels, which was completed by others as Hamer was by then often battling terrifying Dt hallucinations.

Rhea Perlman had already won three Emmys for Best Supporting Actress, and with Shelly Long leaving, she was the top lady on the show. Alley, of course, would go on to win Emmys of her own, making them two of the top actresses in television.

Nearly 20 years after that show ended, why not try it again?

Deadline reports that Rhea Perlman has joined the cast of Kirstie Alley's upcoming sitcom pilot, "The Manzanis." Alley will play a woman who moves with her family to New Jersey, and Perlman will play her mother-in-law. It will be Perlman's first regular TV role since 2001's Abbie Schaeffer,...

In A Better World (Sony) Winner of last year’s Best Foreign Film Oscar, this Danish export looks at two fractured families and the effect that the adult world dysfunction has on their two sons, who form an immediate and potentially deadly bond. Director Susanne Bier delivers another powerful work that maintains its drive during the films’ first 2/3, then falters somewhat during the last act. Still, well-worth seeing, and beautifully made. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Deleted scenes; Commentary by Bier and editor Pernille Bech Christensen; Interview with Bier. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS-hd 5.1 surround.

X-men First Class (20th Century Fox) “Origins” film set in the early 1960s, traces the beginnings of Magento and Professor X (played ably here by Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy), and how the once-close friends and colleagues became bitter enemies. First half is slam-bang entertainment at its stylish best,...

Beautifully realized on every level. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Best Worst Movie Director Michael Paul Stephenson and Dr. George Hardy Interview
Early in the 1990 horror film Troll 2, Michael Waits (played by Dr. George Hardy) now famously yells at his 10-year-old son Joshua (Michael Paul Stephenson), “You can’t piss on hospitality!” 20 years later, its stars have taken that lesson to heart. Adoring fans around the world have turned the once obscure, overwhelmingly flawed flick (witness a 0% score on rottentomatoes) into that rare gem of an actual cult classic.

Stephenson & Hardy have embraced the affection to reclaim their initially dark experience with a love letter of a documentary: Best Worst Movie. The film chronicles the making of Troll 2, its odd resurrection, the fans that made it happen and the cast members’ search for a little artistic redemption.

Collider chatted up Stephenson (Bwm’s director) & Dr. Hardy (its main subject) for a funny back-and-forth this week. Hit the jump for the interview’s full audio and transcript, along with stories of...

Party Favors: They Call Him Flipper
Tacoma - Who could imagine making a documentary about dolphins could lead to so much trouble. When director Louie Psihoyos exposed what the Japanese locals were doing to dolphins in Taiji, Japan in The Cove, he found himself a wanted man. This sea-side community celebrates their relationship with the dolphin. But there’s a darkside when they herd dolphins into a cove, sell the prized ones to aquariums for $150,000 each. The remaining dolphins are slaughtered and given to school kids as whale meat. He found himself wanted by the Japanese law for various charges including videotaping undercover police officers.

Certain folks have defended this slaughter as cultural dining. How dare Americans protest what the Japanese eat. The falsely labeled dolphin meat has toxic levels of mercury. Remember that this is the same Japan that will shut off imports of American agriculture and livestock with the rumor of something being amiss.

Smash Cut to screen at the Trinity Of Terrors!
The much-talked about H.G. Lewis-inspired Smash Cut has been added to our Fango Film Fest for the inaugural Fangoria Trinity Of Terrors taking place October 30 through November 1 at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas!

Able Whitman (David Hess - appearing at The Trinity!) is a horror-film director whose movies are panned by critics and audiences alike — until he starts killing people and using their body parts as props in his new flick.

Now, only intrepid Smash Cut. reporter April Carson (Sasha Grey) and celebrated private detective Isaac Beaumonde (Jesse Buck) stand between the demonic director and his unquenchable thirst for butchery at 24 frames per second!

Inspired by the career and filmography of Herschell Gordon Lewis, Smash Cut is a gore-splattered satire of the blood sport known as filmmaking.

This director's cut bleeds!

Smash Cut joins our Film Fest program which will be held in the Brenden Theatres inside the Palms Casino.

Don Reo to run Fox's ' 'Til Death'
"My Wife and Kids" co-creator/executive producer Don Reo has joined Fox's comedy series " 'Til Death" as exec producer/showrunner.

Reo will oversee day-to-day operations on the multicamera comedy, recently picked up for a fourth season. He will be an exec producer alongside series creators Cathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith, who also have a new comedy pilot, "The Fish Tank," in the running at CBS.

The Sony-produced "Death," which has defied the odds with a string of renewals despite modest ratings, underwent a major creative retooling this season when its two-couple premise was dropped to focus on the older couple, Eddie (Brad Garrett) and Joy (Joely Fisher), and Eddie's brother Kenny (J.B. Smoove).

Reo has not begun to outline next season -- production on "Death's" third season wrapped last month -- but he plans to continue to "exploit the talent that's there and play on (the trio's) strengths."

Reo,...

CBS fattens up with 'Greek Life'
My Big Fat Greek Life, the small-screen spinoff of Nia Vardalos' big fat indie feature hit, got off to a terrific start Monday, but it was Fox's Joe Millionaire: The Aftermath special that drew the largest crowd of the night. Greek Life, which had a special showcase premiere in the post-Everybody Loves Raymond slot Monday before settling into its regular Sunday 8 p.m. slot this weekend, averaged 22.9 million viewers and a 7.4 rating/16 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to Nielsen Media Research. That marked the highest-rated debut of a comedy on any network since NBC's Jesse in 1998 and CBS' best comedy bow since 1995's Cosby and Pearl. Even against the hot Joe Millionaire, Greek Life, from Brad Grey TV/Sony Pictures TV, built on its lead-in from Raymond (22 million, 7.2/16), which posted its best numbers since its season premiere in September. CBS capped the night with a decisive win at 10 p.m. with CSI: Miami (19.1 million, 6.9/17), which helped CBS win the night in viewers (18.9 million) and place a strong second to Fox in adults 18-49 (6.4/15). The swan song of Joe Millionaire dominated the 9 p.m. hour with an average of 19.5 million viewers and 10.2/23 in adults 18-49, which sealed Fox's nightly win in adults 18-49 (7.2/17). NBC won the first hour of primetime with Fear Factor (15.6 million, 6.5/17) but fell off from 9-11 p.m. ABC was DOA for the night with "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!" and a rerun of last week's two-hour Bachelorette finale yielding an average of just 6.4 million viewers and 2.6/6 in 18-49 for the night.
