Much like any other era, 2000s sitcoms have their own set of favorite tropes. In this decade, sitcoms illustrated a different type of conventional family, one that relied on both adults to work. It also saw more and more sitcoms focused on a friend group, following the great success of Friends (which lasted so long that it is also kind of a 2000s sitcom). Some of these tropes have become trite, boring, or politically incorrect, while others continue to thrive on current comedy series.
Either way, some 2000s sitcom tropes, while hilarious and accepted by viewers, are truly weird. For example, all families have a ridiculous dad and a tired mom. What's more, characters always have a great house, a decent car, and a good lifestyle, even if they don't have a job. Of course, sitcoms often exaggerate or take shortcuts to make the series feel as good as possible,...

Undeniably one of the small screen's most criminally-underrated gems, the wholesome and zany 2009 sitcom The Middlefeatured a stellar cast of both new and familiar faces, with TV greats Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn headlining the series as the perpetually exhausted Frankie and Mike Heck as they attempt to raise their three rambunctious kids in a small Indiana town. The wildly entertaining comedy ran for nine seasons from 2009 to 2018 and spawned 215 episodes, keeping audiences laughing week-after-week as the kooky clan found themselves in chaotic situations and engaging in uproarious shenanigans.
Those looking for an endearing family sitcom and some good-natured humor need not look further than The Middle, which is every bit as fun and enjoyable as the more well-known fellow shows like Young Sheldon, Modern Family, and Malcolm in the Middle. The ABC original hit currently holds a stellar 88% Popcornmeter score from fans and a 7.7 IMDb rating based on 56,000 reviews,...

"Wait, we never win," said a shocked Selena Gomez upon accepting the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Comedy Ensemble for Only Murders in the Building last month. Before the ceremony, the Hulu mystery series had never prevailed at the awards, but this year it achieved two upsets for its fourth season. In addition to the ensemble award, Martin Short won individual acting kudos despite ranking last in Gold Derby's odds. The question now is whether the show can carry that momentum all the way to the upcoming Emmys and win its first Best Comedy Series prize.
Let's look to the past. How often has the SAG Award winner for Best Comedy Ensemble followed that with the Emmy for Best Comedy Series? Here's the complete history, with the double winners highlighted in bold.

If you grew up in the early 2000s, chances are you spent many evenings with Ray Barone (Ray Romano) and his eccentric family in the hit comedy series "Everybody Loves Raymond." For good reason. This critically acclaimed sitcom about Ray, a Newsday sportswriter, dealing with his put-upon wife Debra (Patricia Heaton), bickering parents (Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts), and neurotic brother Robert (Brad Garrett), perfectly captures the working-class family and all its quirks, resulting in a heartfelt, often hilarious look at everyday life.
Running from 1997 to 2005, "Raymond" won 15 Primetime Emmys, garnered critical acclaim, and averaged over 20 million viewers during its peak. More impressively, the cast became household names, forever tied to their characters. Still, while many cast members achieved even greater success following the show's finale, others faded into obscurity or endured heartbreaking tragedy. Interested to learn more? Even though it may seem like pretty much every show is getting reboots, revivals or sequels, not all actors agree that revisiting a hit series is a good idea. While promoting her new movie The Unbreakable Boy, TV star Patricia Heaton commented on possible reboots of her two hit comedy series, Everybody Loves Raymond and The Middle. Fans of both series shouldn't get their hopes up, though, because the actor thinks both shows are "perfection" and don't need any new episodes.

Family sitcom The Middle was a massive hit for ABC throughout its nine-season run. Despite the show experiencing a resurgence in popularity, Patricia Heaton, who played matriarch Frances Heck, recently shot down the possibility of a reboot.
"The way they wrapped it up, where we got to flash-forward in the lives of the Heck family and see where they all ended up, it was so beautiful, and I think people have such a good feeling about the show," she told Yahoo! Entertainment. "The Middle is having such a resurgence on TikTok, of all places, that kids are rediscovering or discovering it for the first time. It's a beautiful thing."

During the depths of the pandemic, Las Vegas’ blindingly bustling main boulevard jerked to a grinding halt that highlighted the unconventional traits of the world’s biggest entertainment mecca — like how the grand doors to Sin City’s extravagant resorts are never closed nor unstaffed.
“They had to board up billion-dollar facilities with plywood because the doors don’t even have locks,” recalls Vegas host, philanthropist and actor Mark Shunock. “We take for granted how you can walk into a building on The Strip any time of day, seven days a week, and somebody’s there to greet you with a smile and ask, ‘What can I get you?’ But when was the last time somebody walked in and asked a server, ‘Are you Ok? What can I get you?’

Patricia Heaton starred in two long-running sitcoms, The Middle and Everybody Loves Raymond, but don’t expect her to reprise any of those roles soon.
The actress recently revealed that she wouldn’t want either comedy show to get rebooted.
“It was just sort of perfection — and you don’t wanna mess with perfection,” Heaton told Yahoo! Entertainment. “You know, we’ve lost so many cast members, you couldn’t reboot it because it won’t be the same show.”
Heaton played Debra Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond for nine seasons, which ran on CBS from 1996 through 2005. In that role, Heaton was nominated seven times for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards, taking the trophy in 2000 and 2001.

Frasieris considered to be one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. While there are so many jokes and moments fans still revisit and enjoy, many have also recognized some of the more poorly aged moments in the show's run.
Like any show of the time, Frasier hasn't aged perfectly compared to the comedic standards of today. Even in the 2023 reboot of the show, the creatives even point out and recognize some of those flaws that make Frasier feel a bit outdated. Nevertheless, even though the series is one of the greatest of all time, there are still a few moments that haven't aged well.
It Was the Golden Years of Sitcoms
When fans rewatch Frasier, the show provides a cold reminder of just how great the classic sitcoms of the '80s, '90s and early 2000s really were. This era brought audiences shows like Friends, Seinfeld, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,...

For reasons known only to the power players of the Sub-Saharan African TV markets, Justin Spitzer’s six-season NBC sitcom Superstore is getting a Zulu-language remake. I guess something about America Ferreira must have clicked with South Africans.
While Superstore may not have reached the zeitgeist-defining heights of other NBC comedies like The Office (U.S.) or Parks and Recreation, the comedy about a Walmart-equivalent megastore and its diverse and delightful employees was a worthwhile take on the workplace comedy genre that resonated with big-box retail workers across America. Sitcoms are an integral part of modern television, and with so many great options to choose from, it can be hard for some shows to stand out from the cast. A lot of writers strive to think outside the box and experiment with different formats and mediums to attract new audiences. Sitcoms are an integral part of modern television, and with so many great options to choose from, it can be hard for some shows to stand out from the cast. A lot of writers strive to think outside the box and experiment with different formats and mediums to attract new audiences. Others keep things light and aim to call back to a simpler time in comedy history. As such, audiences are forced to scour through countless shows, all of which are determined to be the next best thing.

Running from 1996-2005, CBS' Everybody Loves Raymond was one of the most popular and best sitcoms of its era. It may have been an ensemble cast, including the likes of Patricia Heaton, Brad Garrett, Peter Boyle, and Doris Roberts as Ray Barones' wild family, but with his name in the title, it was Ray Romano who was the lead. Those who watched might have loved the show, but we didn't always love Raymond himself. So many episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond saw Ray getting himself in trouble because of his own selfishness in how he treated his wife and the rest of his family. One of the show's best episodes even had Ray tape over his and Debra's wedding tape with a football game. That might sound like a well-worn sitcom plot device, but it actually happened to a writer for Everybody Loves Raymond, when he taped over his wedding...

Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano recently surprised tourists at the Warner Bros. backlot in Burbank with a fun nod to their famous TV roles while promoting their new Netflix show, No Good Deed. The lighthearted moment unfolded near the iconic Friends couch, a must-see spot for fans visiting the lot.
In a video shared on Instagram by the show’s creator, Liz Feldman, Romano chatted with a group of visitors, reminding them that Everybody Loves Raymond was also filmed on the Warner Bros. lot.
“Everyone’s always like, ‘Oh, Friends!’ But we filmed just two stages down. Don’t forget that,” he joked, making the group laugh.
Kudrow soon joined the fun, adding her own humor to the moment. When she saw Romano near the Friends couch, she teased, “Go sit on your own show’s couch!” She then joked, “He keeps coming to this couch because he wants more attention.

But Romano still had a word for those who believe the Burbank lot is only famous for the long-running NBC comedy.
“Hey I’m on the Warner Bros lot and we’re by the Friends couch,” Romano said on an Instagram video posted by No Good Deed creator Liz Feldman. “Everybody is, oh there’s Friends, and they forget that Everybody Loves Raymond filmed on Warner Bros. too. I just want to make sure they remember.”

Kudrow then appears at the couch and acknowledges that Friends first shot on Stage 5 — home of Raymond — before moving to Stage 24.

Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano have been the sitcom darlings of yesteryear. Through their work in Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond, they have become prominent figures in both film and television. However, besides a few exceptions, they have not shown the full extent of their dramatic acting skills. “No Good Deed” on Netflix offers them both a chance to be grounded performers who can effectively portray the gravity and the complexity of grief. This dark comedy, written by Liz Feldman, shows Kudrow and Romano as a middle-aged couple trying to sell their house a while after their son’s unfortunate death.
The series mainly revolves around the mystery behind the son’s death to realize the cause and the culprit behind a shocking turn of events. While doing so, it digs deeper into the lives of three families, who hope to buy their house.

"Bones" was led by David Boreanez and Emily Deschanel as FBI agent Seeley Booth and forensic anthropologist Temperance "Bones" Brennan, respectively. But while this duo were the core of the series, no TV show can last a full 12 seasons without some support from other cast members. In the case of "Bones," the Fox procedural was undergirded by a wide array of supporting characters and guest stars who helped to give the series its enduring appeal. Alongside the team of "squints" at the fictional Jeffersonian Institute Medico-Legal Lab — the idea for which was brought to the show by a real detective — there was an array of guest stars who helped expand the "Bones" universe, many of whom became fan-favorites.

“Dead to Me” creator Liz Feldman is back with another addictive dark comedy on Netflix, “No Good Deed.” Starring comedy TV greats Lisa Kudrow (“Friends”) and Ray Romano (“Everybody Loves Raymond”) as a married couple seeking to sell their gorgeous LA home after the death of their son. But as strangers flood through their home, they open the door to more than prospective buyers, dredging up scandal and secrets in the process.
It’s a quick binge-watch, which means you might wind up craving more suburban thrills before you know it. Not to worry, here’s a curated list of shows like “No Good Deed” to watch next.
Netflix ‘Dead to Me’
Naturally, Liz Feldman’s first Netflix series is a must-watch for fans of her new one. You’ll find a lot of tonal similarities between the two, though “Dead to Me” is more about friendship, less about marriage.

Netflix's new dark comedy No Good Deed is an excellent show for those who loved Dead to Me. No Good Deed has a star-studded cast of characters, including Friends' Lisa Kudrow, Everybody Loves Raymond's Ray Romano, and Dead to Me's Linda Cardellini. The show's creator is Liz Feldman, who created the iconic dark comedy Dead to Me. Feldman mentioned in Netflix Tudum's behind-the-scenes footage that the inspiration behind No Good Deed came to her when she was looking to purchase a home, saying, "There are so many secrets in the buying and selling of a house."
No Good Deed is about a couple looking to sell their home, which quickly turns into a hotly-contested war between potential buyers. Liz Feldman is back with a new series called “No Good Deed,” and just as she did in her Netflix series “Dead to Me,” she’s set up a pretty good mystery.
Now streaming on Netflix, the show centers on Paul and Lydia, who are trying to sell their very popular and desired home. For them, it’s become haunted after their son was killed there three years earlier.
His death is labeled a casualty of a home invasion, but nothing is quite what it seems on this one. And there are plenty of potential suspects in and around the neighborhood.
Here are the faces you’ll need to know.
Netflix Lydia Morgan (Lisa Kudrow)
Lydia Morgan is a renowned pianist, but after her son is killed, she can’t keep her hands from shaking and temporarily loses her ability to play. She’s brought to life by “Friends” and “Time Bandits” star Lisa Kudrow.

Bookie returns to Max December 12 with a familiar face and the appearance of two TV comedy vets who were recruited to help spice up the action around the sports betting world.
Charlie Sheen is back to play himself in the second season of the Sebastian Maniscalco comedy, which follows bookie Danny (Maniscalco) as he and his partner, former NFL star Ray (Omar J. “Charlie was such a home run for us in season one, we thought we’d extend the metaphor a little,” Nick Bakay, who co-created the comedy with Chuck Lorre, tells Deadline. “I don’t want to spoil things, but I refer to his arrival this season as Deus Ex Sheen. He is forever a part of the Bookie family.

If you look at a list of the most-watched television shows of the 1990s, you’ll find that seven of the top 10 were sitcoms.
As any fan who lived through it can tell you, the decade was a golden era for three-camera, live-studio-audience comedies.
Shows like Seinfeld, Friends, Home Improvement, Frasier, and Roseanne were averaging close to 30 million viewers per episode, a figure that would make any network exec do a little happy dance in 2024.
(Files/Afp via Getty Images)
By 2000, hourlong dramas and reality shows had taken over the TV landscape, with only Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond landing spots among the year’s 10 most-watched shows.
Those viewing trends have remained in place ever since, but for a long time, the sitcom continued to show signs of life.
The Office and Modern Family switched up the formula, going with a cinema verite mockumentary style and ditching the laugh track.

Not every Christmas movie becomes a timeless classic. For every It’s A Wonderful Life, there are countless pieces of shit that may or may not star Kelsey Grammer. One of the few films of the 21st century to become a seasonal staple is Elf, the Will Ferrell comedy about a human child who’s cognitive development is upended by the rigid dictums of North Pole society.
People love Elf so much that it’s spawned a musical stage adaptation, children’s books and even a breakfast cereal that sadly isn’t just spaghetti mixed with maple syrup.
Why has Elf succeeded where other Christmas comedies have failed miserably? The film’s producer has a theory.
In a recent interview with Crosswalk.com, which is a website for Christians, not urban pedestrians, apparently, Elf co-producer (and current “faith-based” filmmaker) Todd Komarnicki recalled that the movie didn’t catch on right away.

This article discusses topics on suicide.
Many 1990s sitcoms focused on the nuances of modern family life, but very few hit the nail on the head like Everybody Loves Raymond. Starring comedian Ray Romano, the show explored the ups and downs of daily life alongside his wife, kids, and parents. The show ran for nine seasons and won many awards during its time on air.
Aside from the adults, Everybody Loves Raymond also introduced fans to his children, Ally, Michael, and Geoffrey. The twin boys certainly gave Ray a run for his money and quickly charmed audiences with their cheeky attitude. But long-time viewers will know that these characters looked incredibly different in the pilot episode of the show. So, who are the Barone twins, and why were they recast after the pilot?
