The show directly follows events of the 1995 theatrical film, with the screenwriters and the voices of the 4 ghosts returning (though Brad Garrett was eventually replaced by Jess Harnell). The opening episode includes a song that was originally written for the movie.
This series was green-lit and went into production before the release of Casper (1995).
