Siblings gather for their mom’s wedding, which seems to stir up a lot of mixed emotions in the trailer for My Mother’s Wedding (aka North Star). Vertical will release My Mother’s Wedding, directed by Oscar nominee Kristin Scott Thomas who also stars as the titular mother, in theaters on August 8, 2025.

Scarlett Johansson is gearing up to make her dino debut in Jurassic World Rebirth next week, but another project from the former Marvel star just got an exciting new look. Johansson stars alongside Sienna Miller in My Mother’s Wedding, which was formerly titled North Star. The film follows three sisters who return home for the third wedding of their twice-widowed mother, but the trio are forced to dive into parts of their past they’d rather not revisit. Vertical Entertainment has released the first official trailer for My Mother’s Wedding, which has been in distribution limbo since premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival nearly two years ago. However, Vertical Entertainment has put these rights issues to bed and set the film for release on August 8.

John Micklethwait and Kristin Scott Thomas wrote the script for My Mother’s Wedding, and Thomas also stepped behind the camera to direct the film.

Hulu’s upcoming limited series “Mike” is the most serious attempt to date at giving Mike Tyson’s life and boxing career the cinematic treatment. But Tyson is not too happy about the project.

The boxer took to Twitter this weekend to complain about Hulu producing the unauthorized show without his consent.

“Hulu stole my story,” Tyson tweeted. “They’re Goliath and I’m David. Heads will roll for this.” He later added that “Hulu’s model of stealing life rights of celebrities is egregiously greedy.”

This isn’t the first time that Tyson has complained about the Hulu series. In a previously-deleted Instagram post, he wrote that: “Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising.”

It’s possible that Tyson’s opposition to the series is partially fueled by the fact that it is competing with a separate project that he is developing.

About a month ago news broke that a new remake of The Fly was in development with Sleight director J.D. Dillard. As much as a enjoyed Sleight and think the director has some talent, It's hard to get behind another remake of The Fly, especially after what David Cronenberg did with it.

The film is still in the early stages of development, but Dillard recently talked to /Flim about the remake and he seems pretty excited about it. He starts out be explaining that his approach and how he's starting with the character:

It hasn’t taken long for J.D. Dillard to make an impression on the Powers That Be. One month before the big opening of Sleight, his feature film debut of magic and coming-of-age drama, the writer-director came attached to 20th Century Fox’s remake of The Fly.

A modern reimagining of David Cronenberg’s body-horror classic of ’86, Dillard initially opened talks with Fox to shepherd the remake alongside writing partner Alex Theurer. It’s still early, early days, but the director is already well invested in the property, as the folks at /Film discovered in a recent interview.

Walt Disney Records is set to release a massive original motion picture soundtrack for their upcoming live-action take on “Pete’s Dragon” next month. The new album features 3 original songs written for the David Lowery film, including the end credit track “Something Wild” by electronic violinist Lindsey Stirling featuring Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. The soundtrack will also include “Nobody Knows” performed by the Lumineers, plus “The Dragon Song” performed by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy.

The film’s original score was composed by Daniel Hart (“Tumbledown,” “Comet”) and Stirling will also appears throughout Hart’s work on the film’s instrumental accompaniment.

If Brady Corbet‘s The Childhood of a Leader hadn’t received plenty of early praise as a forceful, confident directorial debut from a perpetually interesting young actor, my eye would still be fixed on it for one reason: composer Scott Walker. The press-shy, not-exactly-prolific musician has a fanbase as narrow as it is dedicated — David Bowie may have been first and foremost among them, often considering him a North Star; just hear his reaction to a birthday wish for some idea — and his one contribution to film-scoring, on Leos Carax’s Pola X, is among the best anybody has produced in the last 20 years.

Though a recent convert, I consider myself among said fanbase, and so: whatever I come to make of it, The Childhood of a Leader earns credit for giving us a new, of-the-same-name Scott Walker album on August 19, ahead of which there’s now a very brief preview.

During E3 Marvel unveiled a teaser trailer for a new Spider-Man game that seems to have fans really excited. The game looks awesome, and Spider-Man even got a fresh new look. It sounds like this is only the first in a series of games that Marvel is developing!

During an interview with Polygon, Vice President of Games at Marvel Jay Ong discussed the new Spider-Man PS4 game and teased some big plans and upcoming announcements.

"When I joined Marvel two years ago, I came in with a mandate to usher in a new era for Marvel Games, We have a treasure trove of the best superhero characters on earth. What can we do with this to create truly epic games? Is [Spider-Man] a signal of things to come? Oh, yes. Absolutely. And we can’t wait to tell the world about it."

Ong goes on to talk about their long-term strategy, which is great because Marvel has never really had a decent strategy for their video games. The quality and style of the games have never really been consistent. They range from complete and utter crap to a few decent ones. I've never really been completely blown away by any of the games Marvel has released. Maybe that's all about to change.

"One of the things we really focus on in terms of our new strategy is that we all believe that great games drive the brand and great games are what our fans really deserve. The question is, 'How we can get there?' The thing we landed on is to be really selective with who we partner with. Extremely selective. Right now I would say that out of every 10 opportunities we look at, we maybe do one."

He goes on to talk about the kind of talent they are looking for to develop their games:

"What we look at first and foremost is the talent level of partner. Are they world class in building the games we're talking about? They have to have world-class talent. They have to be able to invest the resources to make that talent sing. Equally important is, do they have passion for the IP they're working on? Do they share the same ambition? Do they love the character? We look for passion, that comes through in the first 30 seconds."One of our mantras is authenticity; it's easy to make a game with Spider-Man on the label, but it's much harder to make it truly authentic in a way that reflects Peter Parker, the character. We are absolutely obsessed about [quality]. That is our North Star. We always say 'Great is not good enough. We're going for truly epic.'"

I like this attitude! It sounds like they actually know what they want this time around and they are going after talented developers who will give them the best quality games possible. It's about time! It's then explained that Marvel will no longer have timed releases to coincide with the release of their movies, which is the smartest thing they could do. I'm surprised they weren't doing that sooner. This will allow the developers to create the kind of quality games they want.

"Things like [games] you cannot under-resource, You can't not give the development time ... to do justice to the game. We think, 'How do we make the game better? How do we help our partners make the game better?'"Building these franchises, and building these characters [at Marvel Games], this is that first big milestone from this team. This is a huge ambitious project."

Hopefully, they follow through with this vision and give fans the "truly epic" games that these characters deserve.

Sheri Salata has stepped down as co-president of Own, the network announced Wednesday. Salata is exiting to form her own brand innovation agency, of which the Own and the Oprah Media Group will be clients. Her co-president Erik Logan will stay on to lead the network. “It’s time to take what has been the ride of my life to the next level in creating my own agency and doing what I love best — telling stories,” Salata said in a statement. “Oprah has been my North Star and spiritual mentor for 20 years and her faith in me and this next venture means.

Filming is underway in Northern Ireland on new Disney teen musical drama The Lodge, a 10-part series which will air on the Disney Channel in 108 countries later this year.

The "coming of age" genre of American movies can vary wildly in terms of subject matter. There are the great teenage "coming-of-age" films (see: John Hughes)- which are more poignant than standard, individual teen angst stories dealing with topics such as "Why doesn't he like me?" or "How do I get rid of my acne and become more popular?" Yet other, far more dramatic "coming of age" films center on the evolution of the United States, none more movingly than those dealing with the abolitionist period of our nation's history. It was a proud time in our history; people of conviction stood up against an abhorrent societal norm in certain areas of the country.
