This might surprise you, but Jet Li's Western films -- ones shot primarily in English -- have grossed basically the same amount as Jackie Chan's (not counting Chan's voiceover work in animated films). Each of them have brought in just over two billion dollars with their English-language releases, but the odds are pretty good that regular moviegoers will recognize Chan far more often than they do Li. Why? That's a good question, and the answer probably has something to do with Chan's ubiquitous presence and those aforementioned family-friendly animated films.
Longtime action fans know that Li has delivered just as many absolute bangers as Chan, but while the latter made his name with comedy and a creative use of his environment, Li secured a spot in the action hall of fame based almost solely on his blisteringly fast skills. The programs, which develops first, second and third feature projects, is organized by the Groupe Ouest, a film org created in 2006 in Brittany, in Northwest France, and headed by Antoine Le Bos and Charlotte Le Vallégant.
Commenting on the lineup, Le Bos said the “darkness of the geopolitical context of 2023 pushes us to redefine what films are made for.” “Our selection team has been pushed to look at all the projects received this autumn with new lenses,” Le Bos continued. He said “the nature...

The partial meltdown at the nuclear power plant at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania in 1979 was a perfect coalescing of factors in two senses. First, a series of cascading mechanical and human errors brought the plant close to a catastrophe that would have potentially made much of the East Coast uninhabitable, we’re told in the new documentary “Meltdown: Three Mile Island.” Second, coming as it did both within memory of the height of Cold War paranoia and days after the release of the film “The China Syndrome,” the disaster was perfectly primed to set off anxieties about the danger of atomic energy.
“Meltdown: Three Mile Island,” a new four-part documentary on Netflix, does an elegant job of braiding those two truths — that Three Mile Island was a narrowly averted nightmare scenario and that it lives on in the public imagination as an argument against nuclear energy. It can default,...

"I'd never thought I'd be mourning the place itself..." Gravitas Ventures has released an official trailer for a documentary film titled Meltdown, another new look at the climate crisis with a focus on discussing how Greenland is the epicenter of this criss and how art can (or cannot) help us deal with the problem. Produced as a small, intimate conversation set on a large, stunning canvas, Meltdown follows acclaimed photographer Lynn Davis & climate scientist Tony Leiserowitz to the tiny, picturesque town of Illulisat, Greenland (Google Maps), which is "Ground Zero" for the climate crisis. There they discuss the convergence of art + science in how we view the world. This looks + sounds like a different take on climate docs, focusing more on the conversation and how people can work together to make a difference. We just need to stay optimistic. Here's the official US trailer (+ poster) for Frederic Golding's doc Meltdown,...

It’s his first release since his work with Josh Homme on Desert Sessions and his first solo, self-titled album in 2018. As he explains to Rolling Stone: “‘Meltdown’ is a little burnt pop confection with a sinister edge, kind of ‘Dysto Music.’ You could call it a turn, or even a re-turn. I watch Wong Jing movies whenever I need a pick-me-up, much in the same way that I watch the films of Uwe Boll and Godfrey Ho. Nothing ever seems to makes any sense in a Wong Jing flick, and if you go into his endeavors expecting as much, then chances are you’ll walk away with a big ol’ goofy smile on your face. “Meltdown”, “Spy Dad”, and “Future X-Cops” rank as my favorites, and each one receives a screening in my house at least once a year. The director’s forthcoming adventure outing “Treasure Hunt” — not to be confused with “Treasure Inn” — looks to be something…special. The poster alone is reason enough for yours truly to check it out. Sad? Probably. But I’m strangely okay with that. The synopsis is pretty out there, too. Take a look: Peggy (Cecilia Cheung), the renowned charming director in the advertising industry,...
