Lesli Linka Glatter on How Her Next Project Aims to Boost Filming in Hollywood: “We Have to Keep Our Industry Alive”
Image
Zero Day marks the second political thriller series that has earned Lesli Linka Glatter an Emmy nom for best directing.

“I always try to mix it up,” the nine-time Emmy nominee (seven of which she earned for Homeland) says of the Netflix limited series that stars Robert De Niro as a former U.S. president tasked with investigating a catastrophic cyberattack.

Here, the president of the DGA, which was involved in the recent passage of Ab 1138 — a new law that bumps California’s film and television tax credit up to 35 percent — shares her hope that her new project, a TV adaptation of Araminta Hall’s 2020 novel, Imperfect Women, leads by example.

The Zero Day script came to you with De Niro attached. What does it take for you to say yes to a script these days?

I don’t want to be telling the same story over and over or...

How ‘Beatles ‘64’ Remastered the Legendary Band’s Live Performances for New Documentary
Image
At this point, restoring famed Beatles performances is familiar territory for Giles Martin.

The producer, son of legendary “fifth Beatle” George Martin, has worked on Fab Four material for nearly 20 years since he first oversaw the music with his father on Love — the 2006 Beatles Cirque du Soleil show — subsequently producing everything from anniversary editions of albums to the so-called “last Beatles song” with 2023’s “Now and Then.”

Now, Martin has secured his third Emmy nomination for sound mixing for his work on the documentary Beatles ’64, and he’s looking to earn a second victory following his 2022 win for The Beatles: Get Back. This latest nomination is both affirming and surprising, Martin tells THR, given that it’s one of the most technically difficult archival Beatles projects he’s taken on to date.

“The material we had, as far as audio quality goes, was so bad, and we had...

Fact Check: Did Paul McCartney Have a Heart Surgery?
Image
Paul McCartney was rumored to have had heart surgery in 2007. In January 2008, The Guardian reported that several of the Beatles’ singer’s friends revealed that he underwent a heart surgery in September 2007. However, it was later reported that the concerning news about the singer was a hoax.

It was reported that the surgery was aimed at opening several blocked arteries of the singer. Further, it was shared that McCartney underwent the procedure in a private hospital in London. The outlet even quoted the said friend, sharing:

It was a routine procedure and Paul is in excellent health. Fans certainly have no need to worry. He immediately returned to a busy schedule, performing in Paris and London the following month. Anyone who saw him singing with Kylie on Jools Holland’s BBC2 show on New Year’s Eve will have seen that he is back on top form.

‘Too Much’ Cast and Character Guide: Who’s Who in Lena Dunham’s New Netflix Show?
Image
Lena Dunham is making her TV return with “Too Much,” loosely based on her own experience moving to London and meeting her husband, British musician Luis Felber.

With Dunham deciding not to star in “Too Much,” “Hacks” breakout Megan Stalter stars as Jessica, who meets indie musician Felix, played by “The White Lotus” Season 2 star Will Sharpe. Don’t worry, though, Dunham still appears on-screen as Jessica’s sister, who’s dealing with her own issues in her marriage (her husband is played by “Girls” star Andrew Rannells).

There are plenty of other “Girls” and “Camping” casting Easter Eggs in “Too Much,” with a slew of A-listers popping into the Netflix romcom series, including Naomi Watts, Jessica Alba, Rita Ora and Andrew Scott, among others.

In “Eulogy,” one of the final episodes of Season Seven of Black Mirror, a lonely man named Phillip (Paul Giamatti) learns that an old flame has died, and he’s been asked to contribute to a unique kind of eulogy wherein an AI guide (Patsy Ferran) pulls his consciousness into old photos to mine memories. Wait, what? Sony Pictures has announced the cast of The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, directed by Sam Mendes, and it's impressive. Harris Dickinson (John Lennon), Paul Mescal (Paul McCartney), Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr), and Joseph Quinn (George Harrison) will star in four interconnected movies, all coming to theaters in April 2028. It's being called the first "bingeable" movie experience. The project marks the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and The Beatles – Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison – have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film. The logline is simple:

Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary. The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event.

Céline Dion warns fans of ‘unsanctioned’ AI-generated music claiming to be her: ‘These recordings are fake and not appoved’
Image
Don't believe everything you hear. That's the word from Céline Dion's representatives, who are warning fans about "unsanctioned, AI-generated music purporting to contain Céline Dion's musical performances, and name and likeness." These tracks are "currently circulating online and across various digital service providers. Please be advised that these recordings are fake and not approved, and are not songs from her official discography."

A five-time Grammy winner, Dion has one of the most famous voices in music and recorded some of the most iconic songs of the 1990s, including "Because You Loved Me" and "My Heart Will Go On." But her musical output has slowed in recent years as Dion has struggled with stiff-person syndrome, an affliction she was diagnosed with in 2022 and which affects her singing voice. "I’ll be on stage. I don’t know when exactly, but trust me I will scream it out loud," she told the BBC last year.

“We had a blast — and you were the blasters!” Paul McCartney told the crowd at the end of his surprise Tuesday show in New York City. Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh Talks Growth For Pan-European Giant, Recent IPO, Africa Investment & Plans For More ‘Paddington’ Movies
Image
Studiocanal is heading into a new era. Not only is the Paddington producer coming off the back of a banner year, with its titles having grossed close to $300M at the global box office in 2024 (up 94% year-on-year), but in December its parent company Canal+ made a headline-grabbing debut on the London Stock Exchange after it was spun off from Vincent Bolloré’s French media conglomerate Vivendi.

While the launch was well below the €6.851Bn (£5.71Bn) valuation Vivendi had hoped for – Canal+ floated on the Lse with an initial market value of £2.5Bn ($3.1Bn) – internally, the IPO (which marked the largest debut on the Lse since 2022) is viewed as a promising next step for the company as it continues the growth trajectory it has been on across the last two decades.

In addition to navigating controversial local shifts in media windowing on its home turf, the French film industry’s biggest...

Beyoncé & Kendrick Lamar win big at Grammys; Swift & Eilish leave empty-handed
Image
Beyoncé won her first ever Album of the Year Grammy over the weekend, with her Cowboy Carter besting the likes of Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and André 3000. Others with multiple wins included St. Vincent, Charlie Xcx and Jon Batiste.

Lamar’s “Not Like Us” would win a couple of key Grammy awards last night: Record of the Year and Song of the Year, beating out everybody from Beyoncé herself to The Beatles. The Beatles would end up taking Best Rock Performance for “Now and Then”, with Green Day, Pearl Jam and St. Vincent all unable to come out on top of the Fab Four (give or take). Also on the legends front, the Rolling Stones won...

2025 Grammy winners: Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar take top honors, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish shut out
Image
In a ceremony that alternated between subdued and sublime, reverent and rocking, the 2025 Grammys attempted to offer thoughtful tribute to the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires while also honoring the best in music. Fittingly, the biggest ovations came at the end of Sunday’s ceremony, as the gathered music royalty rose to applaud Los Angeles County firefighters, who took the stage to present the final award, and then again to celebrate Beyoncé, who claimed the night’s ultimate prize: Album of the Year.

That win, for her country-crossover sensation, Cowboy Carter, was her first triumph in the Album of the Year category after four prior losses. Beyoncé, who entered the evening as the most-nominated performer with 11 bids, also took home awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Miley Cyrus for the track “II Most Wanted.” Queen Bey now has 35 career Grammys, extending her record...

One of the top awards of the night, record of the year, has been awarded to Kendrick Lamar for “Not Like Us” during the 2025 Grammy Awards.

After being presented the award by Miley Cyrus, who quipped that she may just say Beyoncé’s name instead, she eventually revealed that Lamar won the award. Once he made his way up to the stage to accept the golden gramophone trophy, Lamar said he’s “gonna dedicate this one [award] to the city” of Los Angeles.

“Compton, Watts, Long Beach, Inglewood, Hollywood, out to the Valley, Pacoima, Ie, San Bernardino, all that,” he says. “You know, this is my neck of the woods that held me down … since I was in the studio scrapping to write the best raps and all that, in order to do records like these.”

The Beatles win their first Grammy in 28 years for ‘Now and Then’
Image
The Beatles are Grammy winners. That goes without saying, but the fact that the legendary band is still collecting trophies in 2025 is quite a feat considering it was 60 years ago that they won Best New Artist from the Recording Academy. This year they received two nominations: Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance for “Now and Then.” They won in the latter category during pre-televised portion of the awards, bringing their all-time total to eight.

“Play the Beatles’ music to your kids,” said John Lennon‘s son Sean Ono Lennon, who accepted the award. “I feel like the world can’t afford to forget about people like the Beatles. We need this music in the world; we need peace and love.”

It’s surprising that the Beatles haven’t won more given their world renown and influence on rock ‘n’ roll. Before Sunday, the band had only collected seven previous trophies,...

Neither surviving members of The Beatles (Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr) were present at the ceremony, so John Lennon’s son Sean Ono Lennon — who won earlier in the evening for Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package for the expanded reissue of his father’s 1973 LP Mind Games — accepted the award on The Beatles’ behalf.

“It’s really incredible… The Beatles have done so much incredible work and they’re still in the culture and people still listen to the music,” Ono Lennon said. “As far as I’m concerned,...

The biggest night in music is finally here! Tonight, the top names in music gathered for the 67th Grammy Awards.

The competition is stiff this year, with Beyoncé leading all nominees with 11, thanks to Cowboy Carter. She scored nods in not only the three major categories — Song, Record, and Album of the Year — but four different genre categories: Country, Pop, Rap, and Americana. Her 11 nominations also made her the most nominated artist in Grammy history with 99 (she previously shared the record, 88, with her husband, Jay-Z).

Lamar, meanwhile, was one of...

2025 Grammy predictions: Official odds favor Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan
Image
Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan will be among the top winners at the 2025 Grammys on Sunday, according to the official Gold Derby odds.

The night’s top prize, Album of the Year, will finally go to Beyoncé, based on our latest projections. She has lost four times before, often controversially, to the point that her husband, Jay-Z, called out the Recording Academy onstage while accepting his Dr. Dre Global Impact Award at last year’s show. When her Lemonade lost to Adele‘s 25 in 2017, even Adele admitted in her acceptance speech that Beyoncé deserved the prize. But beware: Beyoncé was the frontrunner in our odds the last three times she lost, and this year she has especially tough competition from Billie Eilish (Hit Me Hard and Soft) and Roan (The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess). See the full category odds below.

Aside from Album of the year,...

Final Grammy Predictions: Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan Poised to Rule Ladies Night
Image
The Los Angeles wildfires may have muted the music business’ usual weeklong celebration leading to the 67th annual Grammy Awards, but maybe that’s served to shine a brighter spotlight on music’s biggest night and its nominated artists? In any case, this year’s competition is (Sasha) fierce! When Beyoncé struts into the Crypto.com Arena on Feb. 2, she does so with the most nominations, 11, including three in the top general categories — album, record and song of the year — a feat shared by Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter (the last two are also up for best new artist). Will Beyoncé finally win album and/or record, two trophies she doesn’t yet have in her case, despite being the winningest artist in Grammy history? Will Swift add a back-to-back Aoty to her collection (this would be her fifth!)? Or will Charli Xcx have everyone seeing lime green?...

Sean Ono Lennon on his ‘Mind Games’ Grammy nomination and stewarding his family’s legacy: ‘I’m trying to do good by my own father’
Image
When Sean Ono Lennon, the only child of John Lennon and artist/activist Yoko Ono, was growing up, his father’s third solo album, Mind Games, was “just sort of the lore of my family; his music was always playing in the house,” he tells Gold Derby. Mind Games eventually became not only his favorite John Lennon album, but also one of his favorite albums, period, of all time. It was only when Sean began working on Mind Games — The Ultimate Collection (Super Deluxe Edition) that he realized the album had been poorly received and generally misunderstood by both critics and fans at the time of its 1973 release.

So, now that the Mind Games project has been nominated for Best Boxed Set or Limited Edition Package at this year’s Grammy Awards, Sean feels “very vindicated, because I always felt that Mind Games was one of [John’s] best albums and it...

Paul McCartney Stumps For Protections Against A.I. & Exploitation Of Artists: “The Money’s Going Somewhere”
Image
Paul McCartney is certainly set for life, but in a recent interview with the BBC, the former Beatle stumped for protections for younger artists against A.I. and exploitation by tech giants.

“You get young guys, girls, coming up, and they write a beautiful song, and they don’t own it,” he observed. “They don’t have anything to do with it. And anyone who wants can just rip it off,” the 82-year-old said in an interview broadcast Sunday.

“The truth is, the money’s going somewhere. When it gets on the streaming platforms, somebody is getting it, and it should be the person who created it. It shouldn’t be some tech giant somewhere.”

The 18-time Grammy winner spoke out as the U.K. government considers weakening copyright protections there and allowing tech companies to train their A.I. models on creatives’ content unless the originators specifically opt out.

“We’re the people,...

Paul McCartney Calls on British Government to ‘Protect’ Artists From AI in New Interview
Image
Paul McCartney called on the British government to protect artists in the face of a new copyright law that could allow for AI to “rip off” creators.

Speaking to the BBC, McCartney warned of the bill that would let tech firms train their AI models on copyrighted works — including music — unless the artists explicitly opted out. The Beatles legend said the change, if approved, could severely impact young artists’ career.

“You get young guys and girls coming up, and they write a beautiful song, and they don’t own it.

Laws Must Protect ‘The Guy Who Wrote Yesterday’ From AI, Urges Paul McCartney
Image
Paul McCartney has urged that musicians be protected from the effects of proposed changes to AI regulation.

The legendary singer-songwriter, whose own fortune made through his music is estimated at £1billion ($1.25bn), told the BBC that, if the new rules come into effect allowing AI developers to use creators’ content unless they opt out, it will be much harder for musicians to make a living in the way he did as a songwriter starting out.

Former Beatle Sir Paul said:

“When we were kids in Liverpool, we found a job that we loved, but it also paid the bills… You get young guys, girls, coming up, and they write a beautiful song, and they don’t own it, and they don’t have anything to do with it. And anyone who wants can just rip it off.

“The truth is, the money’s going somewhere… somebody’s getting paid, so...

Aaron Taylor-Johnson: ‘I couldn’t understand why Tom Ford wanted me to play a serial-killer rapist’
John Lennon and The Beatles in Quatre Garçons dans le vent (1964)

How do you keep yourself so springy? I’d love to know more about whatever it is that has made you so physically capable. BerniceTheCat

As a kid, I did a lot of gymnastics and dance. That sort of physical movement is something I really enjoy, especially when you can apply that foundation into something like this [Kraven the Hunter], where there’s a lot of action and stunts. We wanted Kraven to have a signature style that was kind of animalistic, with a bit of fluidity. So we did a lot of things like quadrupeds (going on all fours), parkour, gymnastics, so it was like nothing you’d ever seen before. It was exciting to have that level of detail within the action. I gained about 40lb (18kg) of...

Paul McCartney Wants to Finish a New Solo Album Next Year

Paul McCartney has set a New Year’s resolution for himself: Finish his next album.

In a short Q&a with fans on his website, McCartney confirmed that he’s “been working on a lot of songs,” but had to put the album “to the side” because of his Got Back Tour (which launched in 2022 and finally wrapped this month with a special London show featuring Ringo Starr and Ronnie Wood).

“I’m hoping to get back into that and finish up a lot of these songs,” McCartney wrote. “So,...

Paul McCartney has been enjoying rave reviews for his latest concerts – pleasing thousands of fans with an energetic set that encompasses songs from his entire career, including his time with The Beatles, Wings and his own solo material.

McCartney, now 82, showed no sign of flagging during a set-list that kept him on stage for three hours, but Thursday evening brought an even more special moment for the audience at London’s O2 arena.

Paul McCartney closed out his Got Back Tour on Thursday night at London’s O2 and took the opportunity to reunite with his Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr. During the performance, his last gig of the year, McCartney also introduced the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood and played an old bass guitar that was returned to him earlier this year after being stolen.

Starr joined McCartney during the encore. “We’ve got another surprise for you,” McCartney told the audience. “Bring to the stage the mighty, the one and only Mr. Ringo Starr.

See Paul McCartney Welcome Holiday Season With Rare Live Performance of ‘Wonderful Christmastime’
Image
He’s not Mariah Carey, but Paul McCartney has his own way of heralding in the holiday season, which he did with a rare performance of “Wonderful Christmastime” at his Manchester concert Saturday.

McCartney and his band were joined by a group of kids from the You Should Be Dancing Theatre Academy for the performance, one of only a dozen or so times that McCartney has played the seasonal classic live during his lengthy solo career.

The last time McCartney unwrapped “Wonderful Christmastime” onstage was back in 2018, when he played...

Unreleased songs from Michael Jackson have been found. Bad news? They may never be released.
Image
In news that can only be described as a thriller, new tracks from the late King of Pop Michael Jackson have been discovered in a storage unit. On the tapes that were found are a dozen tracks that have never been made available publicly…and may never be.

The Michael Jackson songs are said to have been recorded between 1989 and 1991, which would put them between Bad and Dangerous. Of note here is that the unit in which the tapes were found once belonged to music producer and songwriter Bryan Loren, who collaborated with Jackson around this time. The most memorable song here is undoubtedly The Simpsons hit “Do the Bartman”. So if we could get audio of Michael Jackson singing “Can I Borrow a Feeling?” or “We Do”, that’d be great…While that’s unlikely, there is a song that apparently features Jackson rapping on a duet with LL Cool J....

The '90s Are Now A Period Piece — Here's The One Thing Movies Are Getting Wrong
Image
The year was 1999 and as congratulations for my group's project getting the highest score in the class, our teacher invited us to have lunch in her room for a week to watch a movie. We chose the Tim Allen/Sam Huntington flick "Jungle 2 Jungle," which includes a character played by a young Leelee Sobieski. As a 9-year-old, Sobieski was my first celebrity crush, and I accidentally mentioned that I had recently seen "Never Been Kissed" and that "she's so pretty" in the movie. One of the kids in my group was also the class bully, and he wasted no time pouncing on this slip-up. "Are you a d**e or something?" It wouldn't be the last time he'd call me that, nor would he be the only one to do it. After years of therapy — I'll fully admit that my years of hypersexual behavior with men in my teens...

'Beatles '64' Documentary Hits Streaming With Near-Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Produced by Martin Scorsese, the new documentary Beatles '64 has debuted on Disney+ with an impressive critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by David Tedeschi, Beatles '64 traces the cultural impact of The Beatles on the United States in the aftermath of their inagural three-week visit to the country in February 1964, following their historic first performances on The Ed Sullivan Show. The film is the latest in a long line of musical documentaries for Scorsese, who directed Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese, as well as another doc about a Beatle – George Harrison: Living in the Material World.

Beatles '64 debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a near-perfect score of 97% based on 30 reviews. The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw rated it 5/5 and called it "An amazing split-second of cultural history." The Wrap's Matt Goldberg said, "Perhaps 'Beatles ’64' will only appeal to Beatlemaniacs like me, but...

Ringo Starr on reports Barry Keoghan will play him in ‘Beatles’ biopic: ‘I believe he is somewhere taking drum lessons’
Image
Ringo Starr has commented on reports that Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) will play him in an upcoming biopic about The Beatles. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer discussed the speculation in a recent interview with “Entertainment Tonight’s” Kevin Frazier.

“I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons,” he said. “I hope not too many!” When asked if he had any advice for the actor, Starr showed off his basic drumming tutorial and added, “I’m not asking you to play like me, but you have to have the movement to do this stuff. A lot of people come to the gigs we’re doing and say, ‘My son is taking drum lessons,’ and I say, ‘Not too many I hope.’ You’ve got to let them get their own feel.”

It’s been 60 years since The Beatles first landed in the United States and Beatlemania is still going strong.

Barry Keoghan ‘Taking Drum Lessons’ to Star in Beatles Movie, Ringo Starr Says
Image
Ringo Starr seems to have confirmed that Barry Keoghan will play him in the Starr-centric film in Sam Mendes’ four-part Beatles biopic.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight this week, the Beatles drummer weighed in when asked about the rumored casting, telling the network, “I think he’s great, I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons. I hope not too many.”

While Starr’s remark gives some validity to the Keoghan rumors that had surfaced recently, another source would not confirm the casting based on Starr’s statements. They told Rolling Stone...
