Throughout his career, Kyle Mooney has always had an interest in the decade he grew up in, the 1990s. As a cast member on Saturday Night Live, he was part of numerous sketches that parodied that period’s entertainment. There's a throwback feel to Brigsby Bear, which he also co-wrote and starred in, and Netflix’s Saturday Morning All Star Hits! is a deeply-referential and absurd take on children’s television from the decade. Even when there’s an overwhelming silliness to these homages—and there usually is—they come from a place of love for this period. Mooney explores them with a specificity and knowledge of the period that few others can match. Mooney is seemingly the only guy today making entertainment that directly references Bobby’s World, Nintendo’s Power Glove, and the wild cartoon/anti-drug PSA, Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue. As a fellow child of the ‘90s,...

https://youtu.be/H8eual4ZrFQ Whether or not you're a child of the 1990s, you can probably appreciate the adorable cuteness of Bobby Generic, the lead character of Bobby's World. It might creep you out a little bit to learn that the Fox Kids' animated series co-creator Howie Mandel wasn't just the voice of dad Howard Generic, but also Bobby as well. But since we're keeping it creepy, we wanted to revisit the spookiest stories in Bobby's World lore …...

Last summer, Howie Mandel’s son gave him some instructions: Turn around and clap. Film it. Put it on TikTok.
The result was a viral meme that came and went as quickly as any other viral memes on TikTok, but for Mandel, it was enough to get millions of hits in a few hours. “That was the Pandora’s box for me,” he says. It rasised questions he still doesn’t have the answers to: “Who are these 12 million people? What did I just do that made them watch?”

There comes a point in a household where the tinny sound of guffawing YouTubers leaking from a child’s headphones can be tolerated no more. A point when, after the possibilities of trees, nature, and industrial estate soft plays have been exhausted, it’s time for them, and you, to watch some proper kids’ television.
Below is some of the aforementioned proper kids’ television, all of it currently available to Amazon Prime subscribers.

Since 2006, NBC’s reality TV juggernaut “America’s Got Talent” has kept things fresh by constantly reinvigorating its judging panel. The original trio of judges — Piers Morgan, David Hasselhoff and Brandy Norwood — only lasted one season as a group before Norwood was replaced by Sharon Osbourne in the second season. The upcoming 15th installment, which will air this summer, will once again feature Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel, and they’ll be joined by comeback kid Heidi Klum and new judge Sofia Vergara. Terry Crews returns as host. Vergara’s addition means that a whopping 13 celebrities have now sat in the judges’ chairs on both the main show and spinoff series “Agt: The Champions.” Tour our photo gallery above to see all of the judges through the years.

If only Lenny Bruce had lived long enough to get his own Saturday-morning cartoon. At some point, it seems now, every racy comedian goes clean for the sake of family entertainment. Howie Mandel, George Carlin and Bob Saget had all mostly performed stand-up meant only for adult ears before (and sometimes during and after) getting their own kid-friendly programs, respectively Bobby's World, Shining Time Station and both Full House and America's Funniest Home Videos. And let's not forget that before Pee-wee's Playhouse and a couple movies made Pee-wee Herman seem as innocent as Mickey Mouse, the character (stage alias of Paul Reubens) did some pretty blue material, which you can see in his earlier HBO special. It shouldn't be surprising, then, that...

Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without a heavily tinseled tree, a tipple before midday and Gremlins on the telly at some point during the day.
The Joe Dante-directed black cult comedy sees protagonist Billy Peltzer being gifted with Gizmo, a cute furry Mogwai discovered by his inventor father in a mysterious Chinatown antique store.
Of course the creature comes with three special instructions which, if not adhered to, result in the spawning of grizzly Gremlins hell-bent on havoc.
The Steven Spielberg-produced movie - which is
currently being fast-tracked by Warner Bros for a remake - celebrated its 30th anniversary earlier this year, and here's what the main cast members got up to after the movie's success:
1. Zach Galligan
Zach Galligan plays William 'Billy' Peltzer who becomes enthralled by his unusual Christmas gift - yet careless with the three golden Gizmo rules.

The '80s and '90s brought us some of the best cartoons ever made, but one thing that made '90s cartoons so special is how irreverent and pop-culture oriented they were. Suddenly we were inundated with shockingly adult innuendos and obscure movie references that flew over the heads of most children watching these cartoons. Horror films were no exception - these show-runners loved to drop references to everything from horror classics to '80s slashers. Here are ten of my favorites: The Critic - "Miserable" (1994) The Critic was short-lived but beloved by fans for its hilarious movie parodies that lampooned everything from Orson Welles to Ace Ventura. The most memorable horror spoof was entitled "Miserable" wherein titular critic Jay Sherman gets kidnapped by his biggest fan in an obvious parody of Misery (1990). Even the gruesome woodblock/sledgehammer scene makes an appearance. Bobby's World - "Adventures in Bobby Sitting...

We're finally down to our top 24 on season 8 of America's Got Talent -- err, sort of. And we've got a preview of the 12 acts set to hit the stage tonight -- err, sort of.
In somewhat baffling moves, Agt has only released the identity of two of the four wildcards, meaning we only know 22 of the top 24 acts. And what is seemingly unrelated is that we only "officially" know 10 of the 12 acts set to perform Tuesday, and even that's not confirmed. Then we had a surprising development about an injury you'll read about below.
The rest of this list has been pieced together from Twitter feeds and speculation, which is also what sustains Howie Mandel's career. That and the fact that he created Bobby's World and starred in Little Monsters.

It's been more than a decade since the 1990s ended, yet the Internet can't seem to go a day without a reminder of the neon slap bracelets that may have been banned from your school.
Yes, we get it. Times are tough and there's comfort in reflection, but enough is enough.

ShayCarl has always been very animated, but now he's becoming...animated. The top vlogger is one of the Maker Studios creators involved in Cartoonium, a new YouTube destination serving up kids' cartoons in partnership with multi-platform animation channel Kabillion. Cartoonium's content will be a blend of established Kabilllion shows and original series featuring Maker talent. At launch, three cartoons--Code Lyoko, Mix Master, and Bobby's World--are available for viewing, with 13 full episodes available for each cartoon. In a 40th video, ShayCarl describes his offering, Shay Beard, which will debut soon and will feature the Maker co-founder as a "beard", a "shay" and a "Viking on the sea." Sounds like an easy sell to me. Cartoonium has been in the works for a long time, as the partnership between Maker and Kabillion was forged back in 2011. Back then, Nice Peter was another one of the leading multi-channel network's creators who...

Viewers have come to know Howie Mandel as a judge on NBC's "America's Got Talent" or host of "Deal or No Deal." But he's also an actor and a stand-up, and all of this happened haphazardly.
He launched his career by taking the stage at Yuk Yuk's in Toronto, with "no intention of ever pursuing" comedy, acting or anything in entertainment, Mandel says. "In the mid-'70s, stand-up became the new disco, and people were being discovered on 'The Tonight Show' like Freddie Prinze, and Robin Williams was blasting off. Comedy clubs sprouted up all over."
Mandel, engaged to be married and working in retail, had his life mapped out, but once onstage he found he could make people laugh. Soon after, he found himself at a Los Angeles comedy club on amateur night and took the mic. After he did his shtick, a man approached and asked...

With "Mad Men" swinging back into action this past weekend, and "Game of Thrones" premiering on Sunday (unless 'tis all an elaborate April Fools jest), it seems a perfect time to round up all of the TV news coming our way this week.
Fresh off her excruciating hosting return to "Saturday Night Live," self-aware trainwreck Lindsay Lohan has now signed on to appear as national talent judge Lindsay Lohan in an upcoming episode of "Glee," another pop-culture entity once well-respected but banished to a primetime punchline. Within the show, Lohan herself has been the target of many jokes, but this confirms her comeback strategy to snuff out her detractors by appearing on the offensive source itself. See for yourself when the new season continues on April 10th on Fox. [People]

Tommy Lee Jones and Ben Affleck in The Company Men
Photo: The Weinstein Co. If you can tell me what I was supposed to take away from The Company Men I would be greatly appreciative. So far as I can tell the moral of the story is that in the current economic climate you better hope you don't lose your job, but if you do, you damn well better hope you know someone with millions of dollars who can come along and set up a new company so you can get another one. Other than that, you're all screwed.
Now that I think about it, perhaps that is the message of writer/director John Wells's corporate downsizing feature that stars a fleet of acting talent but does very little to put it on display. Perhaps the downtrodden feature with, what I assumed to be, a shining beacon of hope...

Edit: It just occurred to me... this movie is full-on Oscar Bait!!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't really have the words to properly report this news, but I'm going to give it my best effort. Have you ever heard of the death-predicting cat, Oscar? It's a pretty wacky story, actually. A Rhode Island nursing home adopted this kitten, now five years old. After a year of living there, the staff noticed that the feline would curl up at the feet of those who were mere hours away from death. While he didn't help save any lives, Oscar did come to be used as a sort of early warning system, with nursing home staff letting family know whenever the cat did his curling up thing. And he's still at it today!
