When OutKast dropped “Ms. Jackson” in the fall of 2000, the world was stunned. Nobody had ever heard a hip-hop song that sounded anything like this. But there’s never been anybody like OutKast before. The Atlanta duo, made up of Andre 3000 and Big Boi, brought their innovative hip-hop style to the pop charts with “Ms. Jackson,” from their album Stankonia. “Ms. Jackson” blew up into their first Number One hit, and it’s gone down in history as one of the group’s definitive classics. It comes in at...

The Super Mario Bros. Movie boasts a talented ensemble cast of actors offering their take on the iconic characters from the Nintendo video games. The animated fantasy comedy follows Mario in his journey through the visually surreal Mushroom Kingdom where his brother, Luigi, has been kidnapped by the fire-breathing Bowser, king of the Koopas. The Super Mario Bros. Movie cast assembles fan favorites from the games as Mario is aided by Princess Peach and the mushroom-like sidekick Toad.
The 2023 movie faithfully recreates classic tropes from the games while also reinterpreting outdated elements — a massive improvement over the heavily panned live-action Super Mario Bros. film from 1993. Mario has had a more favorable run in animation, with TV shows like The Super Mario Bros. Super Show and Super Mario World and the 1986 anime film The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach. This new Super Mario Bros. movie now marks the character’s animated feature debut in Hollywood.

At least six classic game levels will be incorporated into The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Details regarding Illumination’s animated movie indicate that it won’t just be bringing the characters from the Mario universe to life; it’ll also find room to work in the gameplay itself. It seems it’ll go about that by adapting some of the levels, even those that were originally rendered in 2D.
Just how much the movie is pulling from the games is evidenced by the trailers, which are chock-full of references to Nintendo classics like Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, and more. The various Mario monsters he encounters in his video game adventures, such as the Goombas and the Spinies, will be on hand as well. Plus, the film also looks to add some of the levels themselves into the story. Some could only be landscapes, while...

'Faith is a funny thing…' With Jay & Silent Bob Reboot in cinemas now, we revisit Kevin Smith’s most ambitious View Askewniverse film
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Kevin Smith has always felt like an outlier on the indie filmmaking wave that crested during the 1990s, following his own unique trajectory that lead him to Jay & Silent Bob Reboot. And here's a prime example of Smith's singular nature: right at the end of the decade in which he made his name with the Jersey trilogy, he came out with Dogma, a wildly imaginative genre-bender that tilted the relatively grounded View Askewniverse on its axis.
With a stellar cast of View Askew alums and major movie stars, the film follows a pair of fallen angels, Bartleby (Ben Affleck) and Loki (Matt Damon), as they become aware of a loophole in Catholic dogma that would...

‘Bob Hearts Abishola’s’ Gina Yashere on Trump Administration Rhetoric: ‘It’s Helped With Television’
During a presidency in which Ice raids are the largest they have been in a decade (one from August resulted in almost 700 arrests), television writers are fighting back by telling more specific immigration stories in their series.
During the Television Academy’s “Immigration on Television: Stories From America” panel held Tuesday in Los Angeles, Calif., “Bob Hearts Abishola” actor, producer and writer Gina Yashere expressed her feeling that the Trump administration’s polarizing stance on immigration has actually “helped with television.
“Because of the horrible rhetoric that is coming out of what is supposed to be the highest office in the land, that has made people much more open to other stories now. The Trump thing has been horrible, but it has also been great in that way,” she said.
Yashere joined Melinna Bobadilla (“Orange is the New Black”), “The Conners” showrunner and executive producer Bruce Helford, “Crazy Rich Asians” and “Superstore” actor Nico Santos,...

Rejoice, all you Bob's Burgers fans. There is nothing to worry about, as Disney still plans to release their upcoming Bob's Burgers movie on its previously announced release date of July 17, 2020.
It was inappropriately reported by various sources earlier in the day that the Bob's Burgers movie release date was canceled, and that it had been pulled from Disney's impending release slate. But this was an oversight, and is one hundred percent not true. The popular Fox animated family will be making their way to the big screen this summer.
The Bob's Burgers movie was originally announced in the fourth quarter of 2017, before Fox became a part of the Disney Family. There weren't many reports regarding the animated comedy until the Disney Fox merger was officially completed earlier this year. Shortly there after, Disney released an all-encompassing movie release slate that featured all of their upcoming projects including future Star Wars,...

Ben Affleck has been on the mend, both in his personal life and his career, suffering a few flops along the way and losing the title of Batman to Robert Pattinson after a couple of disappointing outings in the now dismantled Dceu. The actor returns with a stirring new drama called The Way Back. He is reuniting with The Accountant director Gavin O'Connor. Today, we get the first trailer and an official theatrical poster for this upcoming Warner Bros. Release.
Every loss is another fight. Academy Award winner Ben Affleck stars in TheWayBack, from Gavin O'Connor, Director of The Accountant. The movie will be in theaters starting March 6, 2020 just in time for Spring Break of next year. It's much to early to tell if this will be an awards season contender, but it has all the needed parts to make this something special.
Jack Cunningham (Ben Affleck) once had a life filled with promise.

Filming is currently underway for Top Gun 2 and some new information has leaked about some of the awesome nicknames that the characters will have. The 1986 original includes the classic names Maverick, Goose, Iceman, Wolfman, Viper, Jester, Cougar, and Sundown. Director Joseph Kosinski is keeping that tradition alive for the sequel, which should make a lot of fans pretty happy to hear. In addition to the new nicknames, breakdowns of the characters have been released, shedding some more light on Top Gun 2.
The new casting breakdown for Top Gun 2 reveals that we're about to get introduced to the likes of Phoenix, Slayer, Payback, Fanboy, Warlock, Cyclone, Viking, Coyote, Lardo, Bob, and Harvard and Yale. You know you love Bob Newhart. The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice, the third movie in TNT’s series starring Noah Wyle as the “librarian” (a.k.a. protector) of a secret collection of priceless artifacts, premieres this Sunday, December 7th, at 8 pm. The movies are a little goofy and kind of low-budget, Indiana Jones-lite material, but I am recommending them anyway, just because they also star one Bob Newhart. I love Bob Newhart. So do you. So if you’re wondering what Noah Wyle’s been up to since leaving ER or just want to see how 79-year-old Bob’s holding up, check it out. TNT will also be replaying the first two movies in the series, The Librarian: Quest for the Spear and The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines, at 4 and 6 pm respectively.

Prom queens and street kings hold court this week at the multiplexes while the college professors of "Smart People" and "The Visitor" preside at the art houses.
"Body of War"
Talk show legend Phil Donahue hands over the mic to Iraqi war veteran Tomas Young in this hard-hitting documentary that contrasts Young's struggle to re-enter civilian life as a paraplegic and anti-war activist with archival footage of an overeager U.S. Congress and what the filmmakers view as their hasty decision to greenlight the invasion. Although the film, co-directed by Donahue and Ellen Spiro, was named best documentary of 2007 by the National Board of Review, "Body of War" has earned equal attention for its soundtrack led by two tracks from Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, with all proceeds going to the non-profit organization Iraq Veterans Against The War. (Check out our interview with Spiro and Donahue.)
Opens in New York.
