Vesa-Matti Loiri in Uuno Turhapuro herra Helsingin herra (1991)

Uuno Turhapuro herra Helsingin herra

Probably the worst of the bunch

I watched this on TV sometime ago and I was appalled. It is clear that Ere Kokkonen has no talent whatsoever, or at least, that he does a masterful job in hiding it.

The film is a mish-mash of various scenes, where the most prolific comedic actors of Finland are waisted. The humor is bland, to say the least. For example, instead of making us laugh, Kokkonen shows ordinary people listening to a radio show laughing. There are no funny jokes to be found here, just laughing people. And radio does not make great cinema. Perhaps Kokkonen for his next film should go to a movie theatre and film the people sitting there...

There is a scene where Uuno Turhapuro talks about film critics in a demeaning way. Why this scene is in the film is obvious: Ere Kokkonen has had his share of bad reviews, so he takes this opportunity to bash the critics in revenge. But it would have been a better revenge if he had simply made a good film. One could say that Vesa-Matti Loiri is the Peter Sellers of Finland, but Ere Kokkonen sure ain't no Blake Edwards. He's more like Niko Mastorakis.

The film ends in a shot of two (!) posters for the next film in the series, "Uuno Turhapuro, Suomen Tasavallan Herra Presidentti". One must give credit to Kokkonen for the warning.

Uuno going places

Vesa-Matti Loiri as Uuno Turhapuro does a radio show, and ruins the businesses of his father-in-law Tuura (Tapio Hämäläinen).Uuno then becomes the campaign manager to the presidential candidate Pentti Tömisevä, played by Pirkka-Pekka Petelius.Other familiar names in this comedy are Marjatta Raita (Elisabeth), Spede Pasanen (Härski), Simo Salminen (Sörsselssön), Marita Nordberg (Mrs. Tuura), Elli Castrén (Unelma Säleikkö).Matti Tuominen plays Pääministeri.Hannele Lauri plays his secretary.Eero Saarinen is Kaupanvälittäjä.Juha Muje is TV- Reportteri.Pekka Autiovuori and Esa Saario are Virkamies #1 and 2.Aarno Sulkanen plays the cab driver, who's politically on the left, just like his character in Täällä Pohjantähden Alla.Juhani Kumpulainen is in his second last picture playing Rahikainen. His wife Mirjam Himberg is in her last picture playing Kampanjapäällikkö.Heikki Kinnunen plays the part of Vääpeli Körmy, who had his own movie series.Seppo Pääkkönen is Hamlet.Antti Virmavirta is Ravintolan Portsari.Titta Jokinen and Jyrki Kovaleff play the new owners of the house.Riitta Väisänen and Päiviö Pyysalo play commentators.Jukka Puotila gives a dead-on imitation of Raimo Ilaskivi. Then there are people playing themselves. Those people include Marko Björs, Åke Blomqvist, Timo Kojo and Ben Zyskowicz. And then you can see Saija Hakola and Taru Valkeapää there.Ere Kokkonen is the director of Uuno Turhapuro, Herra Helsingin Herra (1991).It's the 15th of the bunch. This movie shouldn't be a disappointment to Uuno Turhapuro fans. The battle between Uuno and Tuura is a lot of fun to watch, the battle Uuno always wins. And Tessu the dog is a riot.
