The following contains spoilers for The Night Agent Season 2, now streaming on Netflix.
In Netflix's library of original series, The Night Agent is one of the biggest standouts. It focuses on Gabriel Basso's Peter Sutherland Jr. as he works for the White House's Night Action initiative. In other words, he's a super-spy known as a Night Agent.
Peter manned the phones in Season 1, but Season 2 has him operating in and out of America like he's in a James Bond movie. However, Peter finds himself in yet another scandal. This time, some good comes from the conspiracy as it brings closure to the arc with his father: Peter Sr.

When Bethann Hardison co-created the Black Girls Coalition in 1988 — a group formed with Iman to shine a spotlight on women of color in modeling — she didn’t know she was laying the foundation for a discussion about diversity in fashion that would continue for decades.
“I just wanted to celebrate Black models. I wanted them to see each other,” says Hardison, the subject of the new documentary Invisible Beauty. Co-directed by Frédéric Tcheng (Dior and I, Halston) and Hardison and in theaters Sept. 15, the film details the fashion industry’s history of racial exclusion and her unflagging efforts over decades to push for progress. One minute into the film, actress Tracee Ellis Ross calls Hardison the “godmother of fashion.”

The title Invisible Beauty is a nod to Ralph Ellison’s 1952 novel Invisible Man, in which an unnamed Black man narrates what life is like for African Americans in the South.

There are about eight Mario adventures that could easily be listed within the lexicon of the greatest games ever made, and Super Mario World and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System sit on that list. Super Mario World helped define the 16-bit era, transforming the classic Mario formula into something bigger, faster, brighter, and some would say, better. Meanwhile the follow-up, Yoshi’s Island, is a wonderful vision of pastel colors, majestic landscapes, and beautiful sprites that represent a mishmash of creativity, and imagination that only Nintendo could bring to life.
As the story goes, Shigeru Miyamoto wanted Mario to be able to ride a dinosaur and actually conceived the idea during the 8-bit days but the limitations of the Nintendo Entertainment System made it impossible to include the additional character on the first four games in the series. Yoshi lived only...

The Super Bowl is usually the highest-rated single television broadcast of the year, so the post time slot is probably the most coveted in TV because of the massive lead-in audience (upwards of 100 million viewers). But if the program that airs right afterwards typically draws big ratings, why don’t networks take advantage of this and premiere the pilot of a new series? Wouldn’t this be the best way to promote a show you think will be a huge hit? It would seem like a no-brainer, but in fact, that strategy isn’t always bulletproof. More often than not, a pilot for a new series won’t bring in the same high ratings as a special episode of an established series. Once the Big Game is over, most viewers will go ahead and switch the channel. Unless your a fan of the winning team, and care to sit through the post-game wrap up,...

Special effects legend Ray Harryhausen, whose dazzling and innovative visual effects work on fantasy adventure films such as Jason And The Argonauts and The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad passed away last month at age 92. In 1933, the then-13-year-old Ray Harryhausen saw King Kong at a Hollywood theater and was inspired – not only by Kong, who was clearly not just a man in a gorilla suit, but also by the dinosaurs. He came out of the theatre “stunned and haunted. They looked absolutely lifelike … I wanted to know how it was done.” It was done by using stop-motion animation: jointed models filmed one frame at a time to simulate movement. Harryhausen was to become the prime exponent of the technique and its combination with live action. The influence of Harryhausen on film luminaries like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Peter Jackson,...

Don't double dip that chip. The Super Bowl spots continue to come, and now Disney has unleashed their new trailer for "The Lone Ranger" in the hopes that after your nacho cheese hangover later, you'll remember to buy a ticket to the newest Johnny Depp wardrobe blockbuster. Running a healthy ninety seconds long, we get to see the Depp/Hammer chemistry in action, along with a couple of action setpieces and comedy bits, which are about exactly what you would expect from the team that brought us the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" films. It's a big high concept western, which is always a gamble ("Wild Wild West," "Jonah Hex," "Cowboys And Aliens") so we'll see if Gore Verbinski and co have the magic touch. Take off the mask on July 3rd.

"I went in blind not knowing much more than a plot line and Ethan Hawke was the lead. What happened next was me being scared in a theater for the first time in years. So much so, that I actually gripped up the armrests every time a new 8mm film was played. Needless to say, that last one is a doozy."
- Sarah Shannon, Programming
"Absolutely the best theatrical horror film I’ve seen in many, many years. Creepy, scary, suspenseful, a good story and a very solid, understated performance from Ethan Hawke."

"When I wrote 120 Malay Movies I tried to watch all of the 34 movies that P Ramlee directed. I almost succeeded." Amir Muhammad (The Last Communist, Malaysian Gods) would eventually see 33; Sitora Harimau Jadian (1964) seems to have been lost. He tells us the story of how he came upon what amounts to P Ramlee's own novelization of Sitora Harimau Jadian, "describing what happens in his movie, scene by scene. The book is slim, only 124 pages, and I'm glad it was also fleshed out with pictures from the movie (which might be the only chance we will ever get to 'see' it)." He gives us a sample and then announces that he's republishing the book, which will be out next month and already has a fan page.
