College football brings people together from around the nation. There are countless traditions that plenty of schools have. At the University of Oregon, fans sing along to “Shout” from the movie Animal House in between the third and fourth quarters. Wisconsin Badger fans party to the hit “Jump Around” in the middle of the game. However, one university is doing something to honor a late country music artist who is still beloved. Toby Keith sadly passed away from cancer earlier in 2024. He was a huge fan of the Oklahoma Sooners football team. The program decided to honor Keith in a fitting way this year with a new tradition that likely won’t be going anywhere in the future.
What The Oklahoma Sooners Do To Honor Toby Keith
The Oklahoma Sooners kicked the 2024 year off against the Temple Owls, who they easily beat. However, one moment stuck out for plenty of fans more than others.

We’ve seen plenty of musical biopics over the years, so it’s somewhat surprising that we’ve never seen one about Kiss, the iconic rock band formed by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss. A Kiss biopic has been in development for several years, but it’s been slow going. However, Deadline reports that it’s taking a big leap forward as McG (Terminator Salvation) is in final negotiations to direct Shout It Out Loud.
Shout It Out Loud is set to be produced by STX Entertainment, and Deadline reports that the studio is talking with Lionsgate to co-finance the project and distribute it worldwide. Darren Lemke (Shazam!) penned the most recent draft of the script. The project was initially going to be set up at Netflix with Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tale) directing, but it seems it went back on the market.

STX declined to comment, but we hear the studio is in discussions with Lionsgate to distribute the film worldwide and co-finance. The project previously had been set up at Netflix, following a bidding war, with Joachim Rønning attached to direct, as we first reported in 2021.
No word on the framing the film will take in looking at Kiss’s decades-long musical journey. Financed by Polygram Entertainment, the most recent draft of the script is written by Darren Lemke. The project is based on a prior script by Ole Sanders, who was involved with Rønning’s incarnation. William Herron was the first writer on the project.

Mötley Crüe played a “secret” club show at Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Monday night (May 6th). The band had teased the concert on social media under the moniker “1981” (the year they formed), and were met with a packed house for the gig.
The 12-song set at the 600-capacity venue was mostly filled with the Crüe’s best-known tunes like “Looks That Kill,” “Shout at the Devil,” “Dr. Feelgood,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” and the closing number, “Kickstart My Heart.” The band also played its new single, “Dogs of War” (their first song featuring new guitarist John 5), as well as a covers medley featuring tunes by The Beatles, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Beastie Boys, and more.

The best thing that can be said about this treading-water weekend box office is that it would have been far worse without two niche audience films. And it is the last in February, with a much better March ahead.
“Bob Marley: One Love” (Paramount) repeats as number one with a respectable $13.5 million second weekend gross. It remains a possibility to reach a domestic $100 million, though this could be close. It fell 53 percent, not bad, but that’s compared to a first weekend when it already had a first two-day total of nearly $18 million before then.
That led a weekend coming to around $60 million total gross. Let’s be honest: That’s pathetic. “Marley” is doing fine, and the Manga “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba — To the Hashira Training” (Sony) #2/ $11.6 million and the faith-based adjacent drama “Ordinary Angels” (Lionsgate) #3/$6.5 million were credible performers versus anticipated results and investment. But the...

The Hofner bass that Paul McCartney used to play countless live shows in the ‘60s and record The Beatles‘ first two albums was stolen out of the back of a van in 1972. Now, over half a century later, the legendary four-string has been located and returned to McCartney.
The bass was located by The Lost Bass Project, a grassroots campaign focused on recovering the instrument. A statement posted to McCartney’s website read: “Following the launch of last year’s Lost Bass project, Paul’s 1961 Höfner 500/1 bass guitar, which was stolen in 1972, has been returned. The guitar has been authenticated by Höfner and Paul is incredibly grateful to all those involved.”
First purchased by McCartney in Hamburg, Germany, in 1961, the bass was used at The Beatles’ residencies in the city, as well as their performances at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. It can also be heard on many classic Beatles recordings,...

Although collecting physical media doesn’t have the convenience appeal of streaming films, there is now sort of a stigma with purchasing movies through online platforms. Although its possible to compile a collection of movies through an online library, consumers will ultimately be at the whim of the service should it choose to keep the title available on their server. Additionally, there are a number of titles that don’t happen to find their way to have streaming access and physical media distributors like Shout and Vinegar Syndrome have dedicated their business to some overlooked titles.

I was watching Ready Steady Go! when the Beatles said that Shout was their favourite song. Do you remember that moment? RobertWinchester49

So for John and Paul to say Shout was their favourite record released that week was phenomenal. They were revolutionising the world, so it didn’t get any better than their recommendation. I can thank the Beatles for kickstarting my career.

Certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as the #1-selling solo artist in U.S. history, Garth Brooks has sold in excess of 128 million albums. He has received every accolade the recording industry can bestow on an artist. In the midst of one of the most successful careers in music history, Garth retired in 2001, delivered his last record for Capitol Records and moved back to Oklahoma to raise his children. While in retirement, when called upon by events greater than his own self-interest, he returned to the stage. The President himself requested that Garth headline President Obama’s Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial. He performed as Barack and Michelle Obama, their girls, Joe and Jill Biden and a crowd of over 300,000 lined the mall from the Lincoln Memorial all the way to the Washington Monument. It was a moment in history when all did the “wave” to...

There are loads of tantalizing Hollywood casting what-ifs. Tom Selleck would've played Indiana Jones had he not been previously committed to CBS' "Magnum P.I." Pierce Brosnan was set to succeed Roger Moore as James Bond after "A View to a Kill," but NBC, realizing the star of their just-canceled "Remington Steele," was a hot commodity, resurrected the show for a fifth season (after which it was canceled again). And there's always poor Dougray Scott, who had to give up the role of Wolverine in Bryan Singer's "X-Men" when "Mission: Impossible II" went over schedule.
These were franchise- and career-altering decisions. What would Harrison Ford have done after the conclusion of the "Star Wars" original trilogy in 1983? Would Brosnan have rejuvenated the flagging Bond series, thus averting the six-year retooling period between "License to Kill" and "GoldenEye?" Could Scott have connected with audiences as emphatically as Hugh Jackman did in the role of Logan?...

Five recent releases debuted on different VOD charts this past week, and for the second week in a row, three different films took #1 among the three we follow. Two of these took #1 slots, with “Sound of Freedom” (Angel) atop Vudu and #2 at iTunes, while “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie” (Paramount) reversing those positions at those two sites.
Google Play, which often lags behind the others seems particularly slow this week, with “The Equalizer 3” (Sony) still #1 even though it doesn’t make the top five at the other two. And “Paw Patrol” ranks only fourth, with “Sound of Freedom” seventh.
Netflix is back in Sony streamer mode, with “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” #1 and “Insidious: The Red Door” #2 (both new this week). But two recent festival-premiered originals took the two new spots. “Sly” (Stallone of course), a documentary, and “Nyad,” about the pioneering swimmer Diane Nyad with Annette Bening, are third and fourth respectively there.

Gwyneth Paltrow had a sensational start to her career in the late '90s, starring in hit movies like Shakespeare in Love and Se7en. Paltrow continued to be a popular leading lady in the 2000s, starring in diverse films like Shallow Hal and The Royal Tenenbaums. Recently, Paltrow has taken a step back from acting to focus on her wellness brand Goop, but fans can still enjoy her acclaimed performances in films like Iron Man and the MCU.

"Stay away from my friends, my theater, and my neighborhood." Shout has debuted the official trailer for an indie action comedy titled Showdown at the Grand, from filmmaker Orson Oblowitz. This trailer has been out for a few weeks, but we're just catching up with it – looks like some harmless fun. It's an 80s action movie homage with a big battle at a vintage cinema. A proud movie theater owner honors action star turned recluse "Claude Luc Hallyday" with a retrospective of his illustrious career but when real estate developers show up to ruin the party, the two new friends must fight off corporate greed in the name of art. Showdown stars Terrence Howard, John Savage, Amanda Righetti, Piper Curda, and Swedish badass Dolph Lundgren as Claude Luc Hallyday. Looks like an entertaining tribute to movies they don't make anymore, and the way theaters used to be. Though it's also fairly cheesy & cliche,...

Rudolph Isley, a founding member of the musical group, the Isley Brothers, has died at age 84.
“There are no words to express my feelings and the love I have for my brother. Our family will miss him. But I know he’s in a better place,” said Ronald Isley in a statement.
Rudolph first started singing in church with his brothers Ronald and O’Kelly Isley. He was just a teenager when the group’s hit song, “Shout,” debuted in the 1950s.
The brothers then released “Twist and Shout” in the 1960s, which the Beatles used as the closing song on their debut album.
Other popular Isley Brothers songs include “This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak for You),” “It’s Your Thing” and “Fight the Power (Part 1).”

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet's on-screen chemistry in Titanic is fundamental to the film's success, but they weren't the first choices for the roles. Gwyneth Paltrow turned down the role of Rose in Titanic, jokingly stating that she chose other films with "great characters and stories" instead of a movie about a ship. Despite missing out on Titanic, Paltrow's career remained successful, and she went on to win an Oscar for her lead role in Shakespeare in Love just two years later.

Gwyneth Paltrow won an Oscar for her performance in Shakespeare in Love, which marked a significant turning point in her career. Paltrow humorously claims that she uses her Oscar as a doorstop, but it was later clarified that she keeps it at her home in Amagansett. In addition to her Oscar, Paltrow has also won other prestigious awards, including a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy for her acting accomplishments.
Academy Award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow shares the surprising but practical use she found for her Oscar trophy, which she won in 1999 for her performance in Shakespeare in Love.
Although Paltrow began acting long before landing the role of Viola de Lesseps in the film directed by John Madden, there is no doubt that that part marked a before and after in her career. And the fact that she won the Oscar for Best Actress for it is a clear example of that.

Clive Barker’s Nightbreed begins with the sort of gory bloodletting that one expects from the writer-director. The film, based on Barker’s 1988 novella Cabal, introduces us to a masked slasher who’s soon revealed to be Phillip Decker (David Cronenberg), a therapist who’s been slowly drugging and manipulating a patient, Aaron Boone (Craig Sheffer), into believing that he’s responsible for the doctor’s recent crimes. But just as soon as we’re primed for a perverse spin on the psychological horror genre, Nightbreed wildly pivots in a totally different direction.
Decker arranges a scenario that will result in Boone being shot at by police before anyone asks questions, but as Sheffer’s patsy is drawn into a cemetery, he’s confronted by humanoid monsters. Though Decker’s plan works and Boone is torn apart by bullets, the man rises from the dead due to his exposure to the monsters,...

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” (Sony/$5.99) leads all VOD charts for the third straight week since its price reduction. That’s two weeks longer than its hold on the top spot when it initially was released at $19.99 in early January.
Sony as a studio continues on a roll. This weekend “Uncharted” took in a stronger than expected $44 million in U.S./Canada theaters. Impressive as that was, it also is critical as the highest opening gross for a non-franchise or sequel release in over two years and it comes, like “Afterlife,” from a studio that has no direct streaming platform.
That makes its reliance on traditional strategies – first in theaters, then PVOD at a reduced but still sufficient six week period, later reduced price – before streaming critical. And they seem to be succeeding is the most important recent event in the evolving theater rebound story that is still unsettled.

Just three weeks after hitting theaters, the Kristen Stewart-starring “Spencer” is finding success beyond the multiplex, thanks to a rapid theatrical-to-vod release strategy. The awards contender hit PVOD the day before “House of Gucci” arrived in theaters, and right before major groups start awarding their annual prizes.
The potential for more awards attention could help its overall revenue in the coming weeks, but even in its first week on PVOD, Pablo Larrain’s portrait of a sliver of Princess Diana’s life enjoyed a strong initial showing. The film is already #4 on Apple TV/iTunes and #8 on Vudu, and #12 on the usually lagging Google Play list. Distributor Neon receives the same box office and VOD take on its films as the top studios, but with a vastly smaller investment. “Spencer” — which has grossed under $7 million — could prove very profitable.
Elsewhere, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (Sony/$19.99) began what will...

Exhibitors who still believe that studios might settle on a 45-day minimum on theatrical exclusivity saw their hopes crushed by “No Time to Die.” A month after its release, United Artists debuted the title on Premium VOD at $19.99. The timing parallels Universal’s 31-day strategy for films that open over $50 million.
As anticipated, the latest James Bond immediately placed #1 on multiple charts, both those ranking by transactions and revenue (Vudu). The film remained at #4 in theaters over the weekend, with a 23 percent drop the second lowest among top 10 films. Once again, the home-viewing marketing push also appeared to benefit ticket sales.
Disney is #2 and #3 across the board, as represented by “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” ($19.99) and “Free Guy” ($5.99), respectively. Four other Disney titles, led by “Jungle Cruise” ($12.99) and “Black Widow” ($5.99), took 10 of the 30 positions on the charts. More impressive is that all but “Free Guy” now stream free for Disney + subscribers.

The incredible six-week dominance of “Free Guy” (Disney/$5.99) atop Video on Demand charts should come to an end this week, with the just-announced arrival of “No Time to Die” (United Artists/$19.99) on PVOD Tuesday. Shawn Levy’s film’s lengthy run has come at a time of less competition, but its play — both initially at $19.99, then later at $5.99 — has clearly added a major bounty to Disney’s coffers after an over-$120 million domestic box office. We have no access to specifics, but with the higher return from VOD than theatrical, it’s possible the studio saw a higher return from this. Notably, this came after a 45-day theatrical window.
“Free Guy” returns to topping all charts, a streak interrupted last week when “The Addams Family 2” (United Artists/$19.99) took #1 at Vudu, which ranks by revenue, not transactions, as do Apple TV/iTunes and Google Play. That was a Halloween response,...

With no official word on “Dune” viewership on HBO Max, the world of home movie viewing still belongs to “Free Guy” (Disney/$5.99). Shawn Levy’s non-franchise (so far) action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds is the first film to take the #1 spot for four weeks on all VOD charts we follow. At Apple TV/iTunes and GooglePlay, which chart transactions daily, it’s held the top spot each day without fail.
Disney reduced the price to $5.99 last weekend and it bested “Old” (Universal/$5.99), which also dropped its price from $19.99. M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller placed #2 on two charts, #4 at Vudu (which charts by revenue; it was second to “Free Guy” there among non-pvod titles).
Two of the year’s most acclaimed international releases — Julia Ducournau’s Cannes winner “Titane” (Neon/$6.99) and Mia Hansen-Love’s “Bergman Island” (IFC/$6.99) — debuted this week but didn’t come close to the top 10 on any chart.

“Free Guy” (Disney/$5.99) continues to do theaters a huge service. Despite its 45-day exclusive theatrical window, the year’s top grossing domestic non-franchise film keeps adding to its at home revenues. Or maybe that window is part of its charm? With three weeks at #1 on the VOD charts, word of mouth drove its success and it’s close to a five-time multiple theatrcial gross from its opening weekend. In the year-plus we’ve been checking these out, no other title has accomplished this.
With this week’s drop to standard pricing, the volume of new business for the Ryan Reynolds comedy must be considerable: The Vudu chart calculates by total revenue and favors premium VOD titles, but the now-cheaper $5.99 “Free Guy” topped five titles that cost $19.99.
Among debuts, “Copshop” (Open Road/$19.99) with Gerard Butler bested “Dear Evan Hansen” (Universal/$19.99) for initial response. Action-thriller “Copshop” placed on two charts, while “Hansen...

“Free Guy” (Disney/$19.99) continued to dominate VOD charts over the weekend. Shawn Levy’s action comedy with Ryan Reynolds repeated as #1 for a second week at iTunes and Google Play (ranked by transactions) and Vudu (which calculates by revenue). Meantime, the highest grossing non-franchise domestic release in theaters since “1917” almost two years ago held the #6 position in theaters this weekend, despite its home availability and losing 1,050 theaters. Once again, both hands are washing each other to mutual benefit.
A mere 14 titles charted across all three charts, which, continuing a recent trend, saw a broad consistency irrespective of the method of calculating results. Only three new films broke into any of the top 10 listings, but two placed second on one chart each. Their routes were very different, though.
M. Night Shyamalan’s “Old” has been the only Universal release in over a year to not have a Premium VOD release three weeks after hitting theaters.
