Pedro Pascal is back at it again—this time, not with a lightsaber or a lasso, but with a fox tail and some serious Oscar buzz! Yep, after his 2024 DreamWorks gem, The Wild Robot, bagged three Oscar nods for sound, best animated feature, and best original score, the movie is now crushing it on Netflix too!
As if the Oscar nomination wasn’t enough, now Pedro Pascal’s The Wild Robot is sitting pretty at No. 2 on the global charts for Netflix. Topping in two countries throughout the world, the DreamWorks animation is just killing it. And the only other film that ranked higher than this animation is a spooky teen thriller.

To create the music for Peacock’s The Day of the Jackal, composer Volker Bertelmann focused on the “mathematic brain” of Eddie Redmayne’s title character — considered an unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin.
“It’s a thriller with a killer. He’s very precise … he doesn’t leave any stuff behind,” Bertelmann said during a panel conversation at Deadline’s Sound & Screen Television. “I use a little bit of ’70s thriller style. I’m a big fan of the piano, the high strings. That was one of the ingredients.”
Bertelman, who won his first Oscar in 2023 for composing on All Quiet on the Western Front, said it was the casting of Redmayne that attracted him to the Peacock series.
“I’m a big fan. That’s a good match,” he said.

It was a sight to behold when Christopher Nolan and Robert Downey Jr. collaborated on the epic biographical drama, Oppenheimer. Starring Downey as Rear Admiral Lewis Strauss, the actor took home his first-ever Academy Award—Best Supporting Actor Oscar— for the role.
Now that we have seen this iconic pairing, fans have been looking forward to seeing them work together again. However, because of their busy schedules, this might not be possible anytime soon. But given what Nolan once said about working with Downey, there is a chance we might see them work together again in the distant future.

Celebrities and political leaders around the world expressed their condolences over the death of Pope Francis on April 21. The Pope died from complications due to a stroke after Easter Sunday. He was reportedly under treatment for quite some time. His funeral is set to take place on Saturday, with the papal conclave taking place soon after.
The death of the Pope has reportedly resulted in an increase in viewership for two related films. Matt Damon Harvard Script Turned Film(Photo Credit –Prime Video)
Before Matt Damon was walking across a stage with an Oscar in hand, he was just a Harvard student procrastinating his way into cinematic history. His fans, especially the ones who thought they knew everything about him, were recently left wide-eyed when they stumbled upon the unexpected backstory behind Good Will Hunting, a film that didn’t just launch his career but made him a household name.
Matt Damon’s Journey: From Mystic Pizza to Movie Stardom
Damon’s screen debut came in Mystic Pizza back in 1988, where he had a small role in the romantic dramedy, mostly remembered today for being a nostalgic artifact. But it would take nearly a decade, and a script that came out of a college assignment gone rogue, for him to truly make waves. By 1997, he was no longer just that kid from Massachusetts with acting dreams,...

Directors’ Fortnight, the independent selection running alongside the Cannes Film Festival, has unveiled an eclectic lineup for its 57th edition, which will showcase Christian Petzold’s “Miroirs No.3,” Eva Victor’s “Sorry, Baby,” Robin Campillo’s “Enzo” and Lloyd Lee Choi’s “Lucky Lu.”
Curated by Julien Rejl, Directors’ Fortnight will open with “Enzo,” a film directed by Robin Campillo (“Bpm Beats Per Minute).” Campillo stepped in at the helm after Laurent Cantet, his longtime friend and collaborator, died in April. Cantet and Campillo had previously collaborated on the script of the Palme d’Or-winning “The Class.”
Produced by Marie-Ange Luciani (“Anatomy of a Fall”) at Les Films de Pierre, “Enzo” is set in Marseille and follows the journey of a young apprentice mason, Enzo, who befriends a Ukrainian colleague who gives him a glimpse of a new horizon. The film stars newcomers Eloy Pohu and Maksym Slivinskyi, alongside Élodie Bouchez and Pierfrancesco Favino.

When the absurdly titled Psycho Therapy: The Shallow Tale of a Writer Who Decided to Write About a Serial Killer was filmed in June 2023, director Tolga Karaçelik, working in English for the first time, had a major stroke of luck: two of its stars, Britt Lower and John Magaro, would become incredibly successful.
Between their roles in Severance and Past Lives, respectively, the two actors went from emerging talent to stars of some of the most talked about movies and TV shows of the last few years. We at FandomWire were able to speak to Karaçelik on the ridiculousness of making a dark comedy, what it was like to work with the cast, and how moviemaking is an inherently selfish medium. Elizabeth Olsen, Richard Gere, and Penélope Cruz are among the A-list actors who’ve signed an open letter criticizing Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences leadership for their response to the alleged assault and arrest of Hamdan Ballal, the Palestinian filmmaker who won an Oscar for co-directing No Other Land, just weeks prior.
“We stand in condemnation of the brutal assault and unlawful detention of Oscar-winning Palestinian filmmaker Hamdan Ballal by settlers and Israeli forces in the West Bank,” read the letter. “As artists, we depend on our ability to tell stories without reprisals.

It's safe to say that, all things considered, Conan O'Brien did a really good job hosting the Academy Awards -- but apparently the original opening of the show was very different. Also, it featured O'Brien in green makeup
On his podcast "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend" (via a report in Deadline), the former late-night host sat down with his head writer, Mike Sweeney, and said that the opening originally featured O'Brien popping in and out of different movies nominated for Best Picture. Sure, this is a gag that has certainly been done a million times at a million award ceremonies, but frankly, O'Brien's take sounded really funny.
"It was the idea that, 'Oh, Conan's now going to goof on all the movies,'" O'Brien said. "It starts with me and I'm in 'Wicked' and I'm all green, finishing 'Defying Gravity' or one of those songs. And...

Oscar-winner and controversial Hollywood star Mel Gibson remains popular with audiences, as the Braveheart and Lethal Weapon actor’s severely panned 2022 action thriller dominates free streaming. Gibson, who remains a polarizing figure following issues with alcohol and a series of controversies, including well-publicized antisemitic tirades, homophobic comments, and a domestic violence-related restraining order, was recently appointed a "Special Ambassador" for Hollywood by President Donald Trump. And, clearly, audiences still find Gibson a magnetic screen presence...especially when it's free.
Directed and produced by James Cullen Bressack, and starring Kevin Dillon, Shannen Doherty, and Michael Welch alongside Gibson, the action thriller Hot Seat is now #1 on free streaming platform Freevee, with audiences loving this tale of an anonymous criminal who plants a bomb under the chair of an ex-hacker, forcing him to break into several high-level banking institutions. You can check out the official synopsis for Hot Seat below.

Kieran Culkin made sure to remind his wife of a long-standing promise during his unforgettable Oscars acceptance speech on Sunday night.
The Succession star won his first-ever Oscar at the 97th Academy Awards for his role as Benji Kaplan in A Real Pain, marking his first nomination and victory. The film, written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, follows two estranged cousins reconnecting during a journey through Poland to honor their late grandmother.
True to form, Culkin mixed gratitude with humor in his speech, taking the opportunity to bring up a deal he had made with his wife, Jazz Charton, about expanding their family.
“Please don’t play the music, because I want to tell a really quick story about Jazz,” Culkin began. He then recalled a conversation from the previous year when he expressed wanting a third child.

Macaulay Culkin had only one reason to watch the 2025 Academy Awards: to see his younger brother, Kieran Culkin, win Best Supporting Actor. Attending the Vanity Fair after-party with his fiancée, Brenda Song, he revealed that he only tuned in for that single moment—certain of the outcome.
“That’s the only thing I watched. True story, true story… I cried,” Macaulay said, recalling his reaction as Kieran’s name was announced. The recognition, earned for his performance in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain, marked the peak of an award season where he had already received the Golden Globe, SAG Award, BAFTA, and Critics’ Choice Award for the same role.
Macaulay, 44, pointed out that Kieran’s seat at the ceremony was a clear indicator of what was to come. “He was front row, aisle, closest to the stairs. There was no way he was not going to win,” he said.

In today’s era of anime, the only thing that is trending more than the many prominent anime series is fan animation. Fan animations are animation sequences that are created by anime fans that mostly follow the same script as their favorite anime series and movies. Some of these animations are so great that they have been deemed Oscar-worthy by the viewers.

Raise a glass to Oscars producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan, who followed their Emmy Award-winning production of the 96th annual Academy Awards last year with an even better ceremony this year. The 2025 Oscars celebrated movies and the industry in the truest sense of the word, with deft hosting from first-time emcee Conan O’Brien and several emotional tributes to the creative community. Ahead are the highs (and just a few lows) from the 97th Oscars.
High: Wicked wasn’t eligible for Best Song (more on that category later), but the Oscars found a way to include its music by letting stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo perform an Oz-themed medley as part of the show-opening tribute to Los Angeles. Kieran Culkin has won the Academy Award for best supporting actor for his performance in “A Real Pain.”
In his speech, he brought up the infamous moment when, after winning the 2024 Emmy Award for best actor for HBO’s “Succession,” he asked his wife, Jazz Charton, to have a third child — which he did only because she’d promised to have another kid if he won the Emmy, not thinking he would.
“After the show, we’re walking through a parking lot … and she goes, ‘Oh, God, I did say that!'” Culkin said. “‘I guess I owe you a third kid.’ And I turned to her, and I said, ‘Really, I want four.’ She turned to me — I swear to God, this happened there’s just over a year ago — she said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.'”

Matt Damon’s 2016 film Jason Bourne took a long time to happen, and while it performed well at the box office, the reviews had not been favorable. For a sequel as highly anticipated as this one, surely there’s something in it that at least made a lot of fans swoon.

Indeed, Damon finally did one thing in this film that he had been avoiding for the past couple of installments, and that was to display his ripped body. At the time, he felt it would be suitable to show off his build since it fits into the narrative.

He's considered one of the greatest actors of our time, yet even Denzel Washington has issues with some of his most rewatchable performances -- including one that earned him an Oscar. According to "The Book of Eli" writer Gary Whitta, Washington confessed that in the late 2000s, he felt somewhat annoyed by the final act of "Training Day," particularly the now-iconic speech in which he declared how very little s*** King Kong had on his character, Alonzo Harris.
During an appearance on "Kinda Funny Gamescast," Whitta recounted the surreal conversation of picking the best Denzel Washington films with Washington himself. While Whitta's top choice was "Man on Fire", "The Book of Eli" directors, the Hughes Brothers, who were also present, ranked "Training Day" at the top of their list. As Whitta recounted it:

Apart from pioneering blockbusters in the ’70s, Steven Spielberg revolutionized the use of CGI with Jurassic Park. While it wasn’t the first film to incorporate CG, this film certainly paved the way for its dominance in the following years by setting a precedent for visual effects in the movie business.

The Martian featuring actor Matt Damon is one of the most celebrated movies out there and took the sci-fi genre by storm when it was released in 2015. The plot of the movie centers around an astronaut’s survival on Mars after being accidentally left behind, while NASA works tirelessly to bring him back to Earth. While many were impressed with Damon’s acting, director Ridley Scott also left no stone unturned to make the movie as grand as possible.

But to the surprise of many, Drew Goddard was the project’s original director, until he got on board Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off Sinister Six, which never happened.
How Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off derailed Matt Damon’s original vision for The Martian?
The Martian brought the sci-fi genre to a whole new level when it was released in 2015 and grossed $650 million worldwide.

When the "28 Years Later" trailer raced online earlier this week, viewers were eager to see how all of the film's stars figured into Danny Boyle's first full-on horror film since the original "28 Days Later." While they got a pretty good look at Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes, there was one notable omission. Where the heck was 2024 Best Actor Oscar-winner and returning "28 Days Later" star Cillian Murphy?
It didn't take long for people to begin theorizing that he was, indeed, in the trailer, just not in a role that was at all expected.
As /Film reported on Tuesday, a number of hard-core fans believed Murphy briefly appeared at the one minute, 48 second mark of the trailer as a desiccated zombie. In their defense, this might explain why Murphy's name is nowhere to be seen on the film's official poster. But there were also numerous arguments to the contrary,...

The Highlander reboot starring Henry Cavill has received a disappointing update. Filming for the new film will begin later than originally planned.
Redanian Intelligence reports that the Highlander reboot's filming schedule has been pushed back from January 2025 to May 2025. The delay appears to be as a result of Cavill's Voltron film being scheduled to shoot from December 2025 until April 2025, leaving the star little time to shoot the Highlander flick. The Cavill-led reboot of the 1986 film currently has a 2026 release window.

After 100 years of speculation, remains of one of the first ever Brits to climb Mount Everest have been discovered by a group filming a Nat Geo feature including Oscar-winner Jimmy Chin.
The group was filming the upcoming doc when they found what is believed to be the foot encased in a sock and boot of Andrew Irvine, who disappeared on Everest in 1924 along with his partner George Mallory. They were part of the third British expedition to attempt to climb the world’s tallest mountain and would have been the first to have done it.
According to Nat Geo, Free Solo maker Chin and his team found the foot on the Central Rongbuk Glacier below the North Face of Everest at a lower altitude than Mallory’s remains were located. The partial remains – identified with his name stitched into the sock – are now in the possession of the China Tibet Mountaineering Association,...

Halle Berry remains a trailblazer in Hollywood thanks to her groundbreaking Best Actress Academy Award win in 2002. However, well over two decades later, Berry can't believe she's still the only Black woman to ever walk away with the prestigious honor.
Speaking with Marie Claire, Berry admitted she's "saddened" she remains the only Black woman to take home the Best Actress Oscar, winning the award for her performance in Monster's Ball. The Hollywood legend believes there were rightful winners since her historic triumph, including Andra Day's showing in The United States vs. Billie Holiday and Viola Davis in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. However, Berry is "eternally miffed" that she's the lone actor to achieve the feat. Joker: Folie à Deux continues diversifying the DC Elseworlds banner by offering a musical spin on Joaquin Phoenix’s troubled clown-faced antihero. With Joker filmmaker Todd Phillips returning to the director’s chair, the Joker sequel is one of many R-rated comic book releases of 2024. Introducing Lady Gaga as Joker’s accomplice and love interest Harley Quinn, the upcoming DC release has been garnering attention for its unconventional thematic choices. A major case in point is Phillips' decision to follow his 2019 psychological human drama with a musical instead.
