February ushers in a new slate of movies and TV shows making their way to HBO and HBO Max, from a slew of James Bond movies to the recently released Olivia Colman-led “Empire of Light” to, yes, the Puppy Bowl.
“The Terminator,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Footloose,” “Taxi Driver” and “The Silence of the Lambs” all mark notable library offerings this month, in addition to “Superbad,” “Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)” and “Eighth Grade.”
Despite HBO Max pulling a number of originals from its roster over the past several months, HBO Max originals premiering on the platform this month include a Dionne Warwick documentary, an adult European animated series titled “Poor Devil” and “Harley Quinn: A Very Problematic Valentine’s Day Special” based on the popular animated series.

The selection of titles for HBO Max in February 2023 will include the continuation of hit TV shows, premieres of holiday specials, and Oscar nominees. HBO Max’s January 2023 additions kicked off the new year with the premieres of TV shows like The Last of Us, which broke HBO records for having the highest jump in viewership for its second episode, and the original series Velma. The month also brought The Menu (2022) and the John Wick franchise to the platform’s library, with plenty more classic films and new releases set to drop on HBO Max in February.
In February 2023, HBO Max will host the streaming premieres of two 2023 Oscar nominees: Sam Mendes’ drama Empire of Light (February 7), which earned Roger Deakins a Best Cinematography nod, and HBO documentary All That Breathes (February 7), which is up for Best Documentary Feature. Not all teenage werewolf movies are created equal.
As a kid, I couldn’t have been more primed to see 1985’s Teen Wolf, a movie that seemed positively made just for me. I was obsessed with star Michael J. Fox, first from his TV work as Alex P. Keaton on Family Ties and then as Marty McFly in Back to the Future, to this day my favorite movie of all time. Werewolves have always been my movie monster of choice, even as a boy of just eight years old. Combining Michael J. Fox with werewolves—in a high school comedy, no less, then (and possibly still) one of my favorite film genres—seemed a foolproof recipe for a classic. And, in its way, Teen Wolf is a classic: a movie that’s probably as good as it can be while still being far from great. It’s sweet, it means well,...

Following an unexpected success with the ’80s rom-com Mannequin, the reasons why a sequel were made are about as interesting (and artistically-driven) as one would imagine. But one aspect of that sequel—Mannequin 2: On the Move—that’s especially interesting is the film’s director: Stewart Raffill. Stewart Raffill is a guy who broke into the business by […]

The Emmy-nominated actor passed away surrounded by love ones in his California home.
Emmy-nominated actor Meshach Taylor, best known for playing Anthony Bouvier on the hit CBS sitcom Designing Women, died Saturday after a long battle with cancer. Taylor was 67.
According to a statement released by Taylor's son to the Los Angeles Times, the actor – who had been in hospice care – passed away surrounded by his loved ones in his Altadena, California home late Saturday night.
Born in Boston in 1947, Taylor's first foray into acting was in a national stage tour of the hippie musical Hair, after which he continued to develop his talents at the legendary Goodman Theatre in Chicago.
In 1978 he moved to Los Angeles where his career in film and television really took off. His screen debut came in the horror film Damien: Omen II, followed by a series of bit parts before landing a recurring role on the sitcom Buffalo Bill in 1983.

Comedy Central's "Inside Amy Schumer" ended its second season last night and we're already salivating for a third. The raunchy blend of stand-up and sketch comedy, from the mind of Amy Schumer and her staff of writers, was filled with plenty of quote-worthy, memorable moments throughout its sophomore effort.
If you didn't watch, perhaps these clips from the second season will whet your appetite for more Amy. (There's some strong -- mostly bleeped -- language ahead, by the way:)
Behold, Amy's fast food restaurant Aaron Sorkin parody:
"I'm so bad." When it comes to food, this is a phrase we utter all too often. Just watch:

And now, every couple ever deciding what movie to watch. (We all have our own personal version of "Cocktail." Mine's "Mannequin 2: On the Move"):

Michael Gottlieb, best known for the 1987 film “Mannequin,” died in a motorcycle accident. He was 69. Gottlieb was killed in La Cañada Flintridge, Calif., on Friday, May 23, according to media reports. He was a writer, producer, and director, as well as a professor of film at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Gottlieb wrote and directed “Mannequin” in 1987, starring Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall, which opened at number one at the box office. He followed that up with a sequel, “Mannequin 2: On the Move.” Gottlieb wrote the script for that film, though he did not...

In Spike Jonze's acclaimed new film Her, the titular pronoun refers to the female voice of a computer operating system, with whom a lonely writer (Joaquin Phoenix) falls in love. Sexy Scarlett Johansson plays the Siri-esque tool, making the premise a little more plausible. In honor of Her's release this week, let's look back at some of the other movie characters who've been smitten with inanimate objects over the years. Lars and the Real Girl (2007) Ryan Gosling plays a delusional introvert who shuns the advances of a cute coworker in favor of a relationship with a blow-up doll named Bianca,...

It's that very special week of the year, when we collectively realize that "American Idol" contestants were born the same year we saw "Uncle Buck" at the Westbury Drive-In. It's the dreaded "Songs From the Year the Contestants Were Born" theme, or as I like to call it, "Producers Force Thia Megia to Sing a Song That Wasn't Written 100 Years Ago."
But this week "Idol" is also giving back. Portions of the proceeds from the studio recordings will go to helping the relief efforts in Japan. But really, the entire world benefits from watching Steven Tyler sing, "There's something wrong with the world today ... Oh, hi there. Let's talk natural disasters."
Before I point out that 75 percent of the season 10 contestants were born after "Mannequin" hit theaters, and 25 percent of them after "Mannequin 2: On the Move," let's rip right into the top 12's performances.

Today Universal released Get Him to the Greek, a sort-of sequel to 2008's Forgetting Sarah Marshall as it uses Aldous Snow who had a small role in the original. Beyond that, there is only a brief reference to Sarah Marshall, which has me thinking it's not really a sequel as much as it is a spin-off. The same could be said for a movie like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)... Same characters, but not really a sequel to Clerks, which ended up having its own sequel in 2006.
In a debate with a group of fellow Seattle critics trying to decide if Get Him to the Greek was a sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall or not, the topic turned to comedy sequels in general and I was asked to name a great comedy sequel. Should be easy... right?

Who here had Mannequin in the 80’s remake pool? What? You guys didn’t have a “Which 80’s movie will be announced next as a remake” pool going with your buddies? I’m telling you, if you don’t have one going, then I highly suggest starting one because there are sure a lot of classic 80’s films out there just ripe for the remake pickin’. Of course, you could always do shots but then half of the people that follow movie blogs would die of alcohol poisoning in just under a year.
According to our buds over at Movie Hole, they have it on good word that Gladden Entertainment – who released the original Mannequin back in 1987 – are just in the early stages of putting together a remake. This news is not entirely all groan worthy because Gladden also put out the classic 80’s gems, The Manhattan Project, Gleaming the Cube,...

"When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!" I looked and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Mannequin, and Hollywood Montrose was following close behind it."
The living mannequin Emmy might join the ranks of James Bond and Batman by having her history (which included the first film as well as Mannequin 2: On the Move) rebooted for a whole new generation. The original film stars Andrew McCarthy as a skeezy pervert who fosters an overwhelming sexual attraction to a mannequin. He's able to turn the financial fortune of a department store completely around due to his painstakingly garish window displays before the mannequin (played by Porky's Kim Catrall) comes to life and reveals herself as a reincarnated Egyptian princess and consummates their relationship on a pile of teddy bears. Meschach Taylor co-stars as a gay bonfire.

A Remake For Mannequin
Kim Cattrall and Andrew McCarthy's quirky eighties film hit Mannequin is set to be remade.
The 1987 Michael Gottlieb film, in which Sex & The City star Cattrall played a showroom dummy who comes to life, was savaged by critics upon its release but became a cult hit.
A sequel, Mannequin 2: On The Move, came out in 1991 and has been dubbed "one of the worst follow-ups ever made".
Moviehole.net reports Gladden Entertainment bosses are "said to be in early development" on the remake with the new version featuring a lonely man who falls for a "laser display hologram".
