Sumac and Moor Mother Announce Collab Album The Film, Unveil Opening Track “Scene 1”: Stream
Image
Sludge metal act Sumac and avant-jazz poet Moor Mother have announced a collaborative album, The Film, arriving April 25th via Thrill Jockey. The lead single/opening track “Scene 1” is out now and offers a first glimpse at the project.

According to the press release for the album, the track should be considered a fragment of a work “meant to be taken as a whole,” but does introduce the sonic characteristics of this intriguing collab between artists of seemingly disparate genres.

Sumac — consisting of guitarist/songwriter Aaron Turner (ex-isis), drummer/synth player Nick Yacyshyn, and bassist Brian Cook — provide the musical backing, diving into the improvisational, free-jazz-esque playing that’s central to their excellent 2024 album The Healer and body of work in general.

Meanwhile, Moor Mother’s words were penned to Sumac’s improvisational explorations, and both parties laid down their respective parts at Studio Litho with engineer/mixer Scott Evans.

'Like a Bond Villain': Ke Huy Quan Wants to Play a 'Diabolical, Really Bad Guy' for His Next Big Role
Image
Ke Huy Quan has been cast in protagonist roles his entire career. Love Hurts hints at a shift, but the Loki star also wants to play complex antagonists in movies.

Love Hurts proved Ke Huy Quan can headline action films. The trailer showed him channeling John Wick's stunts with inimitable, contagious cheer. Quan acknowledged he's known for playing good-natured characters, which is why he really wants a shot at drastically different roles for a change. "I would love to play a bad guy. Like a Bond villain," he told Empire. "Or the kind of thing Hugh Grant does in Heretic. I want to go out of my comfort zone and just play this diabolical, really bad guy." Quan is appearing in three films in 2025 but none of these cast him as an antagonist.

Short Round's Indiana Jones Return Has To Happen Now, Right?
Image
Ke Huy Quan's comeback in Everything Everywhere All At Once shows that Short Round should make a return in the Indiana Jones franchise. Ke Huy Quan began as a child actor, making his film debut in 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as Indy's young sidekick Short Round. After appearing in movies like 1985's The Goonies and the 1991 martial arts film Breathing Fire, Quan retired from acting in the early 2000s before returning to the spotlight with 2022's acclaimed Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Quan plays Waymond Wang in Everything Everywhere All At Once, the husband of Michelle Yeoh's Evelyn Wang, and he helps her in a mission to save the multiverse. Not only is Everything Everywhere All At Once A24's first movie to surpass 100 million worldwide, Ke Huy Quan won a Golden Globe for his performance. The success of Everything Everywhere All At Once,...

“Chilling revenge drama from a sex comedy specialist” – Subhash K Jha reviews Raakh
Raakh Ashes To Ashes

Starring Shaad Randhawa, Vir Das, Richa Chadha(guest appearance)

Directed Milap Milan Zaveri

Rating: ***(3 stars)

Vendetta is the flavour of the season, at least for the short film category .Just the other day I saw Adil Hussain, chilling in his avtar as a revenge seeker who had poor Vaquar Shaikh tied up battered bruised and dying in an abandoned warehouse.

It’s déjà vu time now with Milap Zaveri, so far known for writing banana and dildo styled sex comedies, who hurls a steely revenge saga at us with a sure handed narrative style that is just short of being considered a clutter breaker for the purveyor of cheesy comedies.

The problem is, we’ve seen this before and as mentioned, quite recently. In the short film Bandhi Adil Hussain was far more powerful in his vendetta. The victim there was gagged and rendered voiceless. The...

Bgt: David Walliams and Simon Cowell's pranks, larks and japes
David Walliams has been sending Simon Cowell up again in the latest Britain's Got Talent trailer and promotional pictures released today (March 24).

Walliams poses as one of the music mogul's nannies - although perhaps not one we'd ever employ - wearing a nurse's hat with a brunette wig and a short maid's dress, complete with white apron.

As the pair's friendship seems to be based on outdoing one another by playing practical jokes, we round up a few of their recent attempts to wind each other up:

Driving Cowell crazy

Oh, David! Here he is pretending to be Simon Cowell's chauffeur during Britain's Got Talent auditions at London's Hammersmith Apollo. Walliams emerged from a Rolls Royce in a smart suit and typical chauffeur hat, before opening the door for Cowell. Although we're still not entirely sure why.

Big fan male

Walliams was at it again during the London Bgt...

'The Hills' alternate ending: How did the MTV hit end this time around?
As promised, MTV aired an alternate ending to their wildly popular reality show "The Hills" on Friday (Aug. 9) as a part of its "RetroMTVBrunch."

When the series famously called it quits in 2010, fans were shocked by the last few minutes, during which it was revealed that stars Kristen Cavallari and Brody Jenner were on a studio backlot, winking at the very clear fact that much about this "reality show" wasn't real at all.

So, how did things wrap up this time around? True to form, Cavallari still chose to move to Europe (Yes, the entire continent. What? She'd pick a country/city by the time she landed at Europe Central Airport. That's a thing, right?) and still had her goodbye with Jenner in which audiences who'd long stopped caring since the departure of original star Lauren Conrad attempted to muster an ounce of interest. And then things got funky.

As...

Who's afraid of Prometheus?
Why is it that movies about outer space always involve creatures of the slithery, reptilian variety? Sorry, but these slimeballs just aren't that scary – or original

Like all critics, I live in fear of accidentally giving away the ending of a movie, fearing the wrath and derision of the public, even though the trailers for most films tell you exactly what is going to happen anyway. Be that as it may, I am not going to spoil anyone's fun by revealing how Ridley Scott's new film Prometheus ends. Does the crusading scientist played by Noomi Rapace ultimately discover the meaning of life? Does the icy czarina played by Charlize Theron finally get to meet the intelligent life form – or life forms – that created humanity in the first place? Does the cheeky robot played by Michael Fassbender ever get to speak with the creatures that created the creatures that created him?...
