Director Randall Okita (See for Me) is back this year with new movie Menace, which was notably written by Thom Eberhardt, the writer of 1984 fan favorite Night of the Comet.

Variety reports this morning that IFC Films and Shudder have acquired the North American rights to the upcoming film, which is expected to see release sometime in 2025.

Isabel May (1883) will star in sci-fi horror movie Menace, which comes courtesy of Image Nation Abu Dhabi and the genre label Spooky Pictures. This is the third feature from Image Nation and Spooky Pictures, behind Watcher and Late Night with the Devil.

“The film follows a research student (Isabel May), who has a psychotic breakdown and is remanded to the custody of her aunt and uncle in a small town.

Renowned director Robert Lieberman, best known for his work on the sci-fi cult classic Fire in the Sky, passed away at 75 in Los Angeles after a prolonged battle with cancer.

According to Deadline, the news of Lieberman’s death was confirmed by his manager, John Bauman. Lieberman began his career as an assistant editor in commercials, but his talent quickly propelled him into the director's chair by the mid-1970s. Over the course of his 50-plus-year career, he directed over a thousand commercials for prominent brands like McDonald's, Hallmark, and Oreo, earning accolades such as the DGA Award in 1979 and 1995.

Many horror fans consider Fire in the Sky to be the most terrifying alien abduction movie ever made, with one scene in particular being among the scariest in the genre’s history.

Released in theaters in 1993, Fire in the Sky was based on Travis Walton’s book The Walton Experience, which itself was based on Walton’s real-life tales of alien abduction.

In the film’s most harrowing scene, Walton (played by D.B. Sweeney) is experimented on by a group of aliens, first emerging from a slimy cocoon and then being subjected to various forms of extraterrestrial torture. Since 2003, the Registry has chosen to preserve sound recordings that are considered “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States.”

Carey’s song was among the 25 recordings selected for preservation by the Library of Congress, including Madonna’s “Like a Virgin”, Daddy Yankee’s “Gasolina” and the Super Mario Bros. theme by Koji Kondo.

Almost three decades since its release, East 17 song “Stay Another Day” has remained a regular Christmas fixture.

The track swiftly became a festive favourite after it was released in 1994, with many assuming the words, sung by Brian Harvey and his bandmates, to be about a failed relationship.

However, the song, which was written by Tony Mortimer, actually has a much deeper meaning.

Speaking to Songwriting Magazine in 2016, Mortimer revealed: “I had the melody and the chords and I was looking for a story to go on top of it.”

He decided to base the lyrics on a very sad event from his life.

“It was based on my brother’s suicide and losing someone,” he explained. “What would you do if you had one more day with a loved one?”

Adele has led messages of support to Megan Thee Stallion after Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting her at a party.

On Friday (23 December) afternoon, a jury ruled that Tory – real name Daystar Peterson – had shot Megan outside a party at Kylie Jenner’s Hollywood Hills house in 2020.

The Canadian rapper was convicted of assault and weapons charges and faces more than 20 years in prison.

Following the verdict, social media was flooded with messages of support for Megan, while also lamenting the struggle she had been through to be believed by her critics.

The co-writer behind Mariah Carey’s festive hit “All I Want for Christmas is You” has claimed her story about the song is a “tall tale”.

Producer Walter Afanasieff discussed the beloved holiday tune during Thursday’s (22 December) episode of the Hot Takes & Deep Dives podcast.

Speaking to host Jess Rothschild, Afanasieff claimed that he and Carey were “on the same page” about how to write the song. However, it wasn’t until 10 years ago that an “alternate story” was shared about the songwriting process.

“When she started to hint at the fact that, ‘Oh, I wrote that song when I was a little girl!’ But why weren’t you saying that for 12 or 13 or 15 years prior to that?” he said on the podcast. “So it just sort of developed in her mind.”

Over the years, Carey has claimed to have come up with the concept of the song when she was a child.

The co-writer and co-producer of one of the all-time great Christmas songs – Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” — can only go “ho, ho, ho” when he hears her tell the tale of how the song came to be created.

In what has become an annual tradition, Mariah Carey has returned to number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with her holiday standard “All I Want for Christmas is You.” In the process she continues to make Billboard history, either setting or extending records along the way. Over the course of four years, “All I Want for Christmas” has now spent 10 total weeks at number-one. It’s the only song that has reached number-one during four separate chart runs. It also gives Carey the longest span of number-one hits in history. Her first chart-topper, her debut single “Vision of Love,” ruled 32 years and five months ago. It’s also the longest span for a single song at number-one (a little over three years from 2019 to 2022).

Comedian Trevor Noah will host the Grammys for the third year running.

Noah, who just left his position as host of The Daily Show, has been asked to host the ceremony in 2023, making this his third time hosting the prestigious ceremony.

The comedian announced the news on his social media on Thursday night (15 December) with a montage video of his previous experiences during the ceremonies.

“It’s about to be a three-peat. #GRAMMYs Feb. 5 on CBS!” he captioned the video on Instagram.

The awards, which will take place on 5 February at the Crypto.com Arena in LA, will host huge nominated stars like Beyonce, Kendrik Lamar, Adele and Harry Styles.

Beyonce will arrive at the ceremony with a total of nine nominations for her recent record Renaissance.

Ticketmaster has a new plan to sell the remaining Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets.

The ticketing company will reportedly use an older fan club ticketing system to sell the remaining 170,000 tickets that takes the queue out of the process.

This move comes after Ticketmaster officially cancelled the public sale for Swift’s 2023 tour.

General tickets were scheduled to go on sale in November, however, Ticketmaster announced the cancellation the day before.

“Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow’s public on-sale for Taylor Swift The Eras Tour has been cancelled,” Ticketmaster wrote on Twitter.

The news came shortly after the ticket seller said that a “staggering number of bot attacks” led to their website crashing when tickets first went on sale.

Now, as per Billboard, Ticketmaster is set to use Ticketstoday – a company owned by Ticketmaster that operates the Ticketmaster Verified Fan Request platform.

In fact, it took the combined powers of Carey’s holiday classic and Christmas to knock Swift off. The top four spots were taken by Christmas songs. Following Carey was Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” and Burl Ives’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas.”

The fifth spot went to “Creepin'” by Metro Boomin, The Weeknd and 21 Savage followed by Swift that dropped five spots to land at No. 6 for the chart dated Dec. 17, 2022, after spending its first six weeks on top.
