Move over, Judge Judy. There’s a new gavel-smasher in town, and his name is Will Ferrell! The former Saturday Night Live star and comedy mastermind is reuniting with Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Neighbors, and Bros director Nicholas Stoller for Judgement Day, a TV courtroom comedy in development at Amazon MGM Studios.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Judgement Day “follows a young convict fresh out of prison who takes a reality TV courtroom hostage, blaming the megalomaniac TV judge (Ferrell) for a past ruling that the convict feels ruined his life.”
If you’re like, ‘Wait. When did Ferrell and Stoller work together?’ The duo teamed up for You’re Cordially Invited, a wedding dramedy starring Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon. The upcoming feature follows a woman (Reese Witherspoon) planning her sister’s wedding and the father of another bride-to-be (Will Ferrell). They discover they are double-booked for their destination wedding, so...

Ferrell is set to star for director Nicholas Stoller in the comedy feature Judgment Day, which is currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Stoller also penned the screenplay.
Judgment Day centers on a young convict who gets out of prison and takes an unscripted TV courtroom hostage, as he is convinced that the TV judge (Ferrell) delivered a ruling that destroyed his life.
Serving as producers are Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alex Brown for Gloria Sanchez Productions and Stoller for Stoller Global Solutions.
Ferrell can soon be seen opposite Reese Witherspoon in Amazon MGM’s movie You’re Cordially Invited, which Stoller directed. The wedding comedy co-stars Geraldine Viswanathan and Jimmy Tatro and begins streaming via Prime Video on Jan. 30.
Stoller is known for helming such films as Bros, Neighbors and its sequel and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Will Ferrell is taking it to the streets in his next film, and he'll be delivering (comedic) justice while he's at it. The former Saturday Night Live funnyman and current star of the poignant documentary Will & Harper is reportedly in talks to star in the next film by comedy director Peter Atencio, a Dirty Harry-style feature called Street Justice.
In new reporting from Deadline, Ferrell will produce and star in the new film for 20th Century Studios, being touted as "a Dirty Harry type who goes about taking justice into his own hands," based on a script and original idea by screenwriter David Callaham. This will be the second collaboration between Callaham and Atencio, who previously worked on Jean-Claude Van Johnson together, an action comedy television series starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as a heightened version of himself that they worked on together for Prime Video.

Carl Weathers was a cinematic icon. From the moment he strutted on the screen as the powerful, preening Apollo Creed, he showed remarkable range and depth. He appeared three more times as the popular boxing champ. In the 80s, he made his mark in the all-time action classic “Predator.” He reemerged in the 90s as Adam Sandler’s one-handed golfing guru Chubbs. And in recent years, Weathers appeared in several episodes of the Disney+ hit, “The Mandalorian.”

Salma Hayek gets a lot of attention for her stunning looks, but her oeuvre proves she's a versatile and formidable actress. From action to drama to comedy, Hayek takes on every role with consummate aplomb. Her talent has garnered Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy award nominations.
Hayek started her acting career in the novela "Un Nuevo Amanecer" in the late-1980s. She then appeared in television shows, including "Teresa," "Street Justice," and "Dream On." She made her big screen debut with 1993's "Mi Vida Loca," portraying Gata -- a small yet memorable role. Her feature film debut led to bigger and bigger parts, leading her to become one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood. While the 1990s saw her cultivate a reputation as a sex symbol, she's since lent her impressive acting chops to a wide range of films, such as experimental indie flicks, superhero blockbusters, and everything in between.

There's a bitter irony in Carl Weathers' storied acting career. Despite starring in several "Rocky" movies and some memorable 1980s action movies, it was a silly Adam Sandler comedy that did irreparable damage to the actor's body.
For most of his career, Carl Weathers looked like he was cut from stone. He survived two seasons of NCAA football at San Diego State University and had a brief stint with the Oakland Raiders. After his professional football career ended, he took advantage of his degree in theater arts and made the switch to acting.
After a few years of small TV and film roles, the actor landed the role of a lifetime as boxer Apollo Creed opposite Sylvester Stallone in the 1976 film "Rocky." After four "Rocky" films, Weathers would star in some high-profile 1980s action films such as "Predator" and "Action Jackson." He would also star as a police detective in...

You couldn't have known it then, but if you happened to be watching TV on October 10th, 1992, and flipped to HBO to catch their original series "Dream On," you were witnessing history.
The sassy Mexican guest star in the episode, who Martin (star Brian Benben) meets in an elevator and asks on a date, was none other than future Oscar-nominee Salma Hayek. It was her first major English-speaking role, after a smaller turn earlier in the year in the Carl Weathers crime drama "Street Justice," and you can tell even from this one episode that she, at age 26, had the goods to be a star.
Titled "Domestic Bliss," the episode sees sparks of romance fly between Martin and Hayek's character, Carmela, after some initial awkwardness on a long elevator ride. The twist here is that they get off on the same floor and then go to the same door...

The movie uses insane violence but in a very comedic way keeping the audience entertained throughout. Canadian director Jason Eisener is creating a new genre with his latest film, Hobo with a Shotgun. This violence-ploitation film now has a red band trailer, which is even more bloody than the one seen here (feature trailer Hwas). There are similarities between both of these film reels, but this latest one shows the demise of Santa Claus via shotgun blast and midnight robberies. This most recent clip also shows an ultra-bloody death by digger and Rutger Hauer, as the hobo, acting heroic, with a manhole cover wrapped around his neck, in comic fashion. Watch the gratuitous violence below, with this title releasing on video-on-demand April 1st and in theatres May 5th, through Magnolia Pictures.
The synopsis for Hobo with a Shotgun:
"A vigilante homeless man pulls into a new city and finds himself trapped in urban chaos, a city where crime rules and where the city's crime boss reigns.

Just below is the new poster for Jason Eisener's Hobo with a Shotgun starring Rutger Hauer as said shotgun wielding hobo. The film is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this week with its first screening on Friday, Jan 21. Magnet will release the film in theaters and on demand later this year.
The story is hardly high concept as Hauer plays a vigilante homeless man who pulls into a new city and finds himself trapped in urban chaos, a city where crime rules and where the city's crime boss reigns. If the Grindhouse was a seemingly quote "box office failure" how in God's name has nearly every faux trailer that appeared between Death Proof and Planet Terror being produced? We don't care what the answer is because it's happening and we couldn't be more excited. Feast on the brand new vintage style one-sheet poster for the film after the break...
Don't remember the faux trailer for Hobo With A Shotgun? Well, then chances are that's because you're not Canadian. The trailer mainly appeared almost excessively in the great white north. Lucky Kanuck's! Regardless the trailer was a huge success and Jason Eisener the mastermind behind the spoof got his chance to turn it into a full length film. Which will show at the Sundance Film Festival this coming year!
Now our friends at Magnet Releasing have bought the rights to distribute the film which will have a limited theaters release and an On-Demand showing.

Many of you will remember the short film Hobo With A Shotgun, directed by Jason Eisener which won the Grindhouse Trailer Contest put on by the SXSW Film Festival & Robert Rodriguez. It all began with an announcement on Ain’t It Cool News, about a contest that gave a three week deadline to come up with a “grindhouse” style trailer for a fake movie and would later appear in between Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof.
Well ever since the Dartmouth filmmakers’ (Jason Eisener, Robert Cotterill and John Davies) won the notorious Trailer Competition in Austin, they have become a favourite among fans of the gore-action-comedy genre garnering more than 500,000 Internet hits. After much anticipation, the talented trio was ready to give Hobo With A Shotgun feature-length treatment and officially announced their plans to do so when they screened their award winning short film Treevenge at the 2008 Fantasia Film Festival.

Hobo With a Shotgun started life as a trailer for a grindhouse film that didn't exist, and writer/director Jason Eisener spent much of this year shooting an expanded feature version starring Rutger Hauer as the title character. The film is scheduled [1] for the Sundance Film Festival in January, but while there it won't have to go through the rigors of a sale for Us distribution rights. Magnet, the genre arm of Magnolia, has picked up the film for distribution in the Us. THR [2] reports the pickup and quotes Tom Quinn from Magnet calling the film "Pure blood-drunk, bat-shit-crazy fun," elaborating that "both Jason Eisener and Rutger Hauer were born to make Hobo." And if you're keeping track of Magnet purchases, this will go nicely alongside Bangkok Knockout [3], Vanishing on 7th Street, Black Death [4] and The Troll Hunter [5]. Assuming the company plans another Six-Shooter Film Series for 2011, we might...

On Friday, October 1, 2010, veteran television show creator, producer and screenwriter Stephen J. Cannell passed away from complications arising from melanoma. He was 69 years old.
Throughout the 1980s there wasn't a mainstream television viewer that didn't know his name. If you watched The A-Team, 21 Jump Street, Hardcastle & McCormick, Hunter, Wiseguy, The Commish, The Greatest American Hero, Silk Stalkings, Street Justice, Stingray, Tenspeed and Brownshoe, Booker, Black Sheep Squadron, and you watched the show through until its end credits, you saw his name and face appear on your screen. His production company's credit block was him working away on a typewriter and then pulling out the page, tossing it into the air and watching it resolve into the C. for Stephen J. Cannell Productions.
Cannell's TV shows were based in the action genre, but that's not to say that each of them were the same. The A-Team and Hunter could be seen as less based in reality,...

Omg! I was so saddened to hear this news this afternoon. One of the greatest television creators, Stephen J. Cannell, has passed away today at 68 due to complications associated with melanoma. Here is a statement his family made to the press:
“Aside from being a legendary television producer and prolific writer, Stephen was also a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. Mr. Cannell is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Marcia, their three children, Tawnia, Chelsea and Cody and three grandchildren. Stephen was the pillar of strength within his family and he touched everyone he met. He will be most deeply missed. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society or The International Dyslexia Association. Details regarding his memorial service will be released.”

As well, Hobo with a Shotgun has a longer, fuller theatrical trailer for the film, which is shown below.
In the clip central actor Rutger Hauer philosophizes with some babies, while reflecting on the hardships of life. Which is the greatest desecration of the dead? To piss all over the memory of their achievements by foisting forth a terribly crappy rehashing of their genius entries into the genre? Or to allow them to continue on, shambling forward, sloughing off shoddy shades of their former glory? George Romero has the distinct honor of having not just one of his movies remade but the entire trilogy. I feel like it's disrespectful to trash Romero since he's essentially the granddaddy of the zombie film, if not the founder, or at the very least the one who made them into what they are today. I will always prefer the shambler to the sprinting zombies. Romero was one of the first to recognize that you could slip subtle social commentary into a horror film. Legions of filmmakers followed in his wake, offering commentary on wars and religion and economy as a clever subtext to the splattersploitation.
