28th Bifan To Select “Esper’s Light” As Entry For This Year’s Fantastic 7 of Cannes’ Marché du Film
Shireen Crutchfield, David Ramsey, McKinley Freeman, Lanett Tachel, and Michele Weaver in Illicit (2017)
28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival has selected Esper's Light by Jung Jae-hoon as one of the film projects to be presented at the ‘Fantastic 7 of Cannes' Marché du Film' during this year's Cannes Film Festival. The director will pitch his project to international film professionals at the Cannes Film Market on May 19.

‘Fantastic 7 of Cannes' Marché du Film' is a program of the Cannes Film Market to foster genre films. Esper's Light follows the adventures of a group of Korean teenagers gathered in an online community, creating three fantasy worlds by themselves. In 2021, the project was invited to Bifan's Naff Project Spotlight Korea, where it received the ‘Korean Discovery Award'.

Bifan programmer Mo Eunyoung, who is in charge of the ‘Fantastic 7 of Cannes' Marché du Film' selection, praised the project, saying: “By intersecting the daily lives of Korean teenagers with the online reenactment of their fantasies, Esper's Light demonstrates...

Valiant Summit Offers Fans A Close Look At Valiant's Titles for 2017
During their 3rd annual Valiant Summit, Valiant Entertainment once again gave us an amazing line up of books that will be released throughout this year, starting with last months launch of X-o Manowar and concluding with December's release of Quantum and Woody. It is important to note that Valiant Entertainment has only been around since their relaunch in 2012. They had such an impact that they won the award of Comic Publisher of the Year from Diamond Comic Distributors that same year. Now they are on the verge of bigger and better things including a YouTube series called Ninjak Vs. The Valiant Universe, a multi-movie deal with Sony which includes a Bloodshot movie and a Quantum and Woody television show that will be made by the Russo brothers, who are currently working on the next Avengers film.

They were very excited about their line up as their first title X-o Manowar #1 has already sold over 90,000 copies,...

A24’s Mystery Project Discovered to Be Futuristic Japanese Short ‘Toru’ Heading to Sundance
Yasu Suzuki
This past week a mysterious A24 trailer was released for an untitled project. While many believed it to be a new sci-fi film, now, thanks to The Film Stage, we know what the project really is.

According to the site, the feature is actually a Sundance-bound short film called “Toru.” After a reader spotted a still on Sundance’s website that matched the trailer footage, they did some additional digging and found images and information that corresponded with the project.

“Toru” is a 14-minute Japanese short with English subtitles, directed by Jonathan Minard and Scott Rashap. The synopsis, courtesy of Wicked Local, is as follows: “With a science fiction undercurrent, ‘Toru’ centers on the story of a baby boy, named Toru, born with a fatal lung condition. As he only has a few days to live Toru’s parents sign him up for a trial experiment that would simulate a...

The Most Interesting Movie Trailer of The Week is a Complete Mystery
A24 has us putting on our detective hats with their mystery trailer.

Okay, gumshoes. Grab your notebooks because the game is afoot. Jinkies! We’ve got a movie mystery to solve. The suspect is A24 and the what is this very mysterious video that was uploaded this week:

https://medium.com/media/9757b10867ee7b114c607f49c93c70c0/href

Note how the video is simply called “Untitled.” It was also uploaded without any sort of announcement or fanfare. The caption reads, “In our near future.” In Whose future, A24?! In Whose?!

The trailer is striking, with visuals of a young boy, a couple, a baby, and what might be some sort of pod. Words move across the screen as well, in time to an ominous drum beat: Beyond Reality. Bear Witness. Question Life. Live Beyond. It’s hard to tell exactly what is happening (because that would be too easy), but the visuals and tone...

A24’s As-Yet-Untitled Sci-Fi Thriller Unveils Ambiguous First Teaser
Never underestimate the gravity of a teaser trailer. In this current age of information overload, first impressions are everything – particularly online – which often leads to Hollywood studios competing for mindshare in a variety of different ways. But sometimes bigger isn’t always the answer. To pique curiosity – to truly spark conversation – that reel of footage simply needs to leave a lasting impression on its audience, as they pour over each and every frame hunting for clues.

One studio that has adopted the ol’ less-is-more approach is A24, who today rolled out an ambiguous teaser trailer for…well, we don’t quite know. Without a title or release date to call its own, A24’s mystery sci-fi project is currently shrouded in a thick veil of secrecy. Assuming it’s designed to advertise an upcoming feature film – and not an intriguing short or some form of thought experiment – the mesmerizing promo...

A24 Releases Mysterious ‘Untitled’ Sci-Fi Teaser Trailer That Goes ‘Beyond Reality’ — Watch
Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay in Room (2015)
A24, the studio which brought us indie favorites like “The Lobster,” “Room” and “20th Century Women,” has released a teaser trailer for an upcoming mysterious “Untitled” sci-fi film. The movie’s title is unknown and the video’s description on YouTube only says “in our near future.”

Featuring unrecognizable actors, the one-minute clip begins with the words “Beyond Reality, Realize Feeling, Feel Bare,” and more. Each scene is different and features a teenager, a couple and futuristic technology, among other things.

Nothing is known about the project and it doesn’t appear on the studio’s website either. Though, The Playlist noted that when the trailer was first uploaded it had the title “Tor Tsr Witness.” We’re not sure if it’s a film, a short or even a television series, but check out the teaser for yourself below.

Teaser for A24’s Secret, Mysterious Sci-Fi Film Goes Beyond Life and Reality
One of the few production companies in which their name alone can attract attention — even more impressive considering they are less than five years old — A24 had one of their best years yet. While 2016 brought The Witch, Krisha, Green Room, The Lobster, De Palma, Morris From America, American Honey, Moonlight, and 20th Century Women, 2017 will see the release of the highly-anticipated How to Talk to Girls at Parties, Lean on Pete, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, A Ghost Story, and It Comes at Night, among others.

We can now add another to the list, but only as Untitled. This morning, A24 uploaded a teaser for a secretive sci-fi film (in fact, we’re not even sure if it’s a film) with no recognizable actors. The preview includes text displaying Beyond Reality, Realize Feeling, Feel Bare, Bear Witness, Witness Change, Change Identity, Identity Questions, Question Life, and Live Beyond...

Go Beyond Reality With The First Trailer For A24’s Mystery Sci-Fi Movie
Last month, Netflix dropped the first trailer for “The Oa,” which hadn’t been on anybody’s radar, mere days ahead of its debut on the streaming service, and a sensation was born. And while I don’t think A24 (the studio behind “The Lobster,” “The Witch,” “Ex Machina” and more) will be dropping a movie by surprise this Friday in cinemas, it seems they’re also choosing to play the mystery game, as they’ve also just released a trailer for a movie (or TV show?) that, for now, they’re keeping completely under wraps, only offering the tagline: “In our future.”

For those of you who like a mystery, I can tell you that when the trailer was first uploaded to YouTube, it had the following title: “Tor Tsr Witness.” If that means anything to you, let us know.

R. Kelly Remixes His Career as a Model for Alexander Wang: See the Photos!
R. Kelly
For many of you, the last time you saw R. Kelly he was most likely trapped in a closet. Or perhaps convincing a ragtag group of cartoons led by Michael Jordan to believe they can fly, if not educating you in the finer arts of jubilantly celebrating the freakin’ weekend. But now the infamous musician has taken on a brand new role, giving all of these Instagram It-Girls a run for their money as the newest star of Alexander Wang‘s Spring/Summer 2017 digital campaign alongside model and brand-favorite Anna Ewers.

The campaign for the designer’s latest collection was...

Steve Ditko – Creativity Just Beyond Reality
The Creativity of Steve Ditko • Craig Yoe • With essays by Mykal Banta, Mike Gold, Jack C. Harris, Paul Levitz, and Amber Stanton • Idw/Yoe Books • $39.99 retail

It’s only fitting that I start a review of a book about Steve Ditko by raising an ethical question. Is it proper for a critic to review a book in which he has an essay, no matter how brilliant, poignant and vital that essay might be?

I don’t care. The latest tome from YoeBooks, The Creativity of Steve Ditko is so magnificent such petty concerns such as objectivity do not matter. Anything I can do to help direct the masses towards this effort is in service to a greater cause and, besides, I don’t get royalties.

There have been a number of books about Ditko, one of America’s most important comics creators who is as reclusive as he is gifted.

Ryan Lochte
Should Ryan Lochte be the new 'Bachelor'? Vote
Ryan Lochte
In the understatement of the Summer Games, not to mention the year, Ryan Lochte is sort of having a moment. Yes, yes, Michael Phelps is still great (most decorated Olympian of all time, etc.) but Lochte — unfortunate grill and all — seems poised to capture some more glory post-London — and yes, we’re talking Hollywood. And no, we’re not talking about the fashion line he’s desperate to make happen.

The swimmer already appeared in a questionable Funny or Die video, and there have been rumors floating around that Lochte is being considered for either Dancing with the Stars or...

If you’ve been watching 'Dancing with the Stars' and thinking that William Levy is wearing entirely too much clothing, we've got some good news for you. You can now see the "Cuban Brad Pitt" almost completely naked!

Us Weekly has uncovered this sexy photo of the hunky telenovela star, which was taken on the set of a 2007 Wild West-themed shoot, according to the magazine. In the photo, Levy shows off his chiseled body, which includes rock hard pecs, washboard abs, and bulging biceps.

The 31-year-old actor, known to Spanish-language audiences for his roles in the telenovelas "Cuidado con el Angel" and "Triunfo del Amor," first became known to English-language audiences as the sexy Adonis in Jennifer Lopez’s 2011 music video “I’m Into You.” After rumors swirled that Levy had an affair with Lopez – those rumors were never proven – the Cuban hunk was asked to join "Dancing With the Stars" 14th season.

MC5 On Gold: Before Woodstock. Beyond Reality
Wild Eye Releasing and Mvd Visual will release Gold: Before Woodstock. Beyond Reality on DVD, July 27, featuring a soundtrack of unreleased music from the MC5. "...In 1968, filmmaker Bob Levis led a rag-tag band of dreamers, drop outs and drug-happy darlings into the wilderness to make a movie and emerged a month later with 'Gold'", a bizarre and beautiful journey into the mind and madness of the late 1960s - one overflowing with fantasies of revolution, recreation and raunchy free love. "At once a western, a comedy, a 'nudie', a drama and a musical - 'Gold' is a profound potpourri made in the spirit of shaking down square society, while systematically shattering every movie rule in the process. But then the film vanished, lost like the generation from which it came, until now..." Gold stars improvisational comedian Del Close (Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and Garry Goodrow (Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice). In the feature Pirate Radio,...

‘Dangerous Women’ And ‘Fusion’ Add To Strike.TV’s Busy January
A busy January continues for Strike.TV with the debut of two more shows, both a bit off the beaten path of standard web fare. Dangerous Women, which premiered January 22nd, and Fusion, debuting today, both take up residence far away from three-minute comedy sketches and twenty-something angst. Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker and Theresa Tilly, the three female leads from Sam Raimi's 1981 camp-horror classic The Evil Dead, star in Dangerous Women as suburban housewives, though despite a long voice-over introduction in episode one, this trio seems to live a long way from Wisteria Lane. The first episode is nearly all expository information, until a shadowy figure is seen behind Sandweiss in the final scene. The multi-genre series from writer-producer David O'Malley and director Lee Miller claims to be "part hyper-drama, with tantalizing doses of horror, suspense, satire, soap opera, fantasy and even sci-fi." Fusion, meanwhile, sets up an X-Files-like...
