After making huge waves out of last year’s Toy Fair, Trick or Treat Studios is at the annual Halloween Party Expo to share a handful of new products slated for 2025.
While John Squires unveils some of the more horror-related goodies, I’m excited to share a first look at Trick or Treat’s “Fallout” masks, which are just the first in a major line that will include power armor helmet replicas, Halloween decor, weapon replicas, and so much more.
These “Retro” masks are made of hard plastic that can be placed over the front of the face, while the regular “Vault Boy/Girl” masks will be vinyl whole-head masks.
Take a look below…
These are just a couple products that Trick or Treat Studios has given us sneak preview first looks at here on Bloody Disgusting, and you’ll find much, much more where they came from by following...

Halloween may seem like a million miles away here in the first weeks of 2025, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start looking ahead. In fact, the annual Halloween Party Expo just kicked off in Vegas this week, North America’s premiere event for Halloween, party and celebration!
One of the 120+ exhibitors packed into the World Market Center space is Trick or Treat Studios, and they’re previewing a whole bunch of brand new products for this Halloween.
Of particular note for Terrifier fans, Trick or Treat Studios lets us know that a 12″ version of their previously released 5″ Art the Clown figure is coming soon, expected to release this summer. The supersized vinyl figure will come in a beautiful window box display, and also includes Art’s hacksaw accessory. Trick or Treat tells us that the figure will retail for $49.99.

Development continues on a live action, supernatural crime TV series, based on the feature "Maniac Cop" (1988), to be produced and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn and John Hyams, for HBO in North America and Canal+ in France:
The first "Maniac Cop" feature, directed by William Lustig, starred Tom Atkins, Bruce Campbell, Laurene Landon, Richard Roundtree, William Smith, Robert Z'Dar, and Sheree North, following an ex-police officer, who returns from the dead, seeking revenge on criminals, corrupt politicians and co-workers who wronged him.
"Maniac Cop" was followed by the feature sequels, "Maniac Cop 2" (1990) and "Maniac Cop III: Badge of Silence".
"We've been talking about a re-imagining of the 'Maniac Cop' films for a number of years," said Refn, "but as we continued to work on the material, we found ourselves wanting to explore the world we were creating in greater depth.

One lesser known but extremely cool horror series that’s worth revisiting is the Maniac Cop franchise. Directed by William Lustig and scripted by Larry Cohen, the Maniac Cop trilogy got off to a great start in 1988 with a film that stars Tom Atkins, Richard Roundtree, William Smith, Laurene Landon, and Evil Dead franchise hero Bruce Campbell, with Robert Z’Dar as the title character. Although Campbell emerges as the hero in the first film, he’s killed off early in 1990’s Maniac Cop 2 – which, despite losing Campbell so quickly, still manages to be one of the best horror sequels out there. Things don’t get questionable until 1993’s troubled Maniac Cop 3. But even though the first two movies are awesome, Campbell doesn’t seem to have the fondest memories of them, as he revealed during a recent interview with Variety.

Bruce Campbell might be known for chainsawing his way through Deadites with his trusty boom stick by his side in the long-running Evil Dead franchise, but theres one successful movie series he would have liked to have been featured more in, if for nothing else than the paycheck. Campbell starred as Ash Williams in Sam Raimis original Splatstick trilogy, and while hes mostly synonymous with the horror genre, the versatile actor also made a brief appearance in Disneys Cars 2 in 2011, voicing the character of Rod "Torque" Redline.
Campbell recently sat down for Varietys Know Their Lines? segment (seen below), reliving some of his most famous one-liners from his filmography, which encompasses a wide range of genres including horror, comedy, and family-friendly films like the Disney sequel. When it came time to utter some of Redlines famous last words ("I was just wearing a disguise. You guys are stuck looking like this.

Bruce Campbell is not a typical actor, but more of a brand with an infectious over-the-top personality that has drawn a legion of fans. His style is a parody of heroism, with equal parts confidence and incompetence. His persona is brash as well as kind of obnoxious, but also self-deprecating and ultimately engaging.
Though Campbell did have an interest in acting, his career started by accident, or perhaps fate, when his high school friend Sam Raimi decided to make a horror movie. Ash Williams from The Evil Dead, launched not just an amazing gory franchise, but also one of the most entertaining actors of all time, whose every movie and TV role is a gift to fans.

The latest edition of the Popcorn Frights Film Festival is underway, unleashing movie premieres, repertory screenings, and horror celebrations with much more still to come.
Opening weekend kicked off with a variety of repertory screenings of Psycho Cop Returns, Maniac Cop 2, Maniac, Society, the “lost” cut of Return of the Living Dead 3, and more with the filmmakers in attendance. It also came with a slew of brand new premieres from emerging filmmakers.
Here’s a round-up of some of Popcorn Frights 2024’s feature offerings so far…

Ask Bruce Campbell, and he’ll tell you he’s “sick of over-trained heroes. I’m really bored with that. Guys that are just ripped to shreds and, you know, full of skills. That’s boring to me. Give me the mechanic that picks up a weapon, you know? Now I’m interested. That’s my hero. That could be me.”
Ash Williams of the Evil Dead franchise is that hero. Part of the lasting appeal of the best character Bruce Campbell has ever played is that the audience can see themselves in him, like if they were pressed into fighting an army of Deadites, they could take up the mantle, the chainsaw, the boomstick, and mow down wave after wave of the undead masses.
He is a man that should have been an A-List superstar and in the eyes of his fanbase he is…. which is all that really matters in the end.

The 12 Days of Creepmas continues on Bloody Disgusting, with the tenth day getting into the anti-festive spirit for all the holiday grinches out there. This is for those that approach December with a “bah humbug” attitude and prefer any iconography or holiday theming to be kept to a minimum when it comes to horror. Most of these ten horror titles are technically set on or around Christmas, but can’t muster up enough cheer to really embrace the holiday spirit. Many of which don’t even bother with Christmas at all, beyond a quick scene or mention.
If you’re already sick of Santa Claus, and all things holiday related, here are ten holiday horror movies – technically – that would rather just cut straight to the horror.
Keep track of the 12 Days of Creepmas here.

As temperatures plummet and blankets of snow envelop the landscape, winter horror movies become the perfect escape for those seeking thrills intertwined with the frosty air. Within this chilly realm, we find a particular sub-genre that harmonizes the starkness of winter with the dread of the cold-blooded killer – figures defined by their emotionless, relentless pursuit of victims, often leaving a trail as chilling as the season itself. These ruthless antagonists embody the essence of winter horror movies, their actions mirroring the merciless bite of the colder months.
From snowy suspense to icy massacres, let’s explore the top films where the winter season and heartless homicidal villains provide a double dose of fright.

I love horror sequels to a degree I can not always defend. Mind you, I’m not just talking about the ones that are generally considered to be great. On any given night, I will gleefully watch something like Amityville 1992: It’s About Time, Maniac Cop 2, Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2, Pet Semetary 2, or pretty much any slasher sequel.
As I’ve tried to make sense of what it is that is so appealing about those sequels (beyond their individual charms), I’ve arrived at only one somewhat logical conclusion. Horror sequels are often, in their own ways, pretty bold. That’s even true of some of those “lesser” horror sequels. Armed with a small budget, a recognizable name, and little oversight, the directors and writers of those sequels ran with the rare opportunity to get their wild ideas on screen. That devil-may-care attitude often makes so many...

Shudder is a streaming service that is specifically dedicated to the horror genre, so it’s only fitting that we here on Arrow in the Head should compile a list of the Best Horror Movies on Shudder Right Now. As with all streamers, Shudder has movies that come and go on a regular basis, but if you head over there today here are some of the best movies you can find on the service:
Night Of The Living Dead (1968)
Yes, George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead seems to be available on nearly every streaming service there is, and that’s because the movie is in the public domain due to the copyright notice accidentally being left off the film print. An Academy Awards nominee for his performance in 1991’s Coen Brothers-directed film Barton Fink, veteran actor Michael Lerner has passed away at the age of 81 years old.
Michael Lerner made several appearances in the horror genre throughout his decades-spanning career, including the films Anguish (1987), Maniac Cop 2 (1990), and Omen IV: The Awakening (1991). You’ll also remember Lerner from the 1993 episode of “Tales from the Crypt” titled ‘People Who Live in Brass Hearses,’ one of the show’s most memorable tales.
Later in the 1990s, Michael Lerner played Mayor Ebert in the big screen movie Godzilla (1998), a role he soon thereafter reprised in the animated “Godzilla: The Series.”
Lerner’s nearly 200 credits in film and television also include The Candidate, Reflections of Murder, The Missiles of October, Ruby and Oswald, The Postman Always Rings Twice, Strange Invaders, Eight Men Out, Harlem Nights, Newsies, Blank Check, Tale of the Mummy, My Favorite Martian,...

While the 1970s and 1980s were strong decades for independent horror filmmaking, the 1990s proved to be a somewhat interesting time, as there seemed to be an overall tendency for this realm of the industry to be focused on making sequels and creating franchises out of ’80s horror hits, with a few landmark indie horror projects in the mix as well. And since sequels were so dominant at that time, I thought it only made sense for us to start there for this look back on the history of ’90s indie horror cinema.
After the 1980s proved to be a great time for indie horror, where so many movies ended up being successful due to a combination of theatrical releases and the increasing popularity of home video, it feels like in the decade that followed, many producers working in the independent realm wanted to capitalize on those successes by turning...

Happy Friday, dear readers! While time might feel like a bit of a flat circle right now, the weekend is officially upon us once again, and I don’t know about you, but these days, movies are providing a very much-needed distraction. With that in mind, I thought I’d put together a list of horror and sci-fi movies that were released throughout the 1990s that you can currently stream for free on a variety of platforms like Vudu, Tubi TV, Crackle, Pluto TV, and IMDb TV.
I just figured we often spend a lot of time celebrating genre movies from the 1980s, so it was time to give the ’90s their due, and there are a lot of great movies from that era that you can currently watch for free via streaming.

Maniac Cop lives! After years of development on a remake of the 1988 cult slasher classic, Nicolas Winding Refn has finally closed a deal to bring the franchise to the modern age. The catch? It's being turned into a TV series for HBO, as opposed to a movie. John Hyams is also on board to co-direct the series alongside Refn.
According to a new report, HBO has picked up domestic rights for a Maniac Cop TV Show, while Canal+ has locked the show down in France. The series is being produced by Nicolas Winding Refn's byNWR Originals production company. In addition to directing the entire series, Nicolas Winding Refn and John Hyams will also serve as producers. Refn had this to say about the project in a statement.

Classic campy horror film franchise Maniac Cop is getting a remake series at HBO with Nicolas Winding Refn in the driver’s seat.
Maniac Cop, the 1988-1993 slasher film franchise, has been eyed for a remake treatment of some kind for several years, with its last attempt, a feature film, having come to a screeching halt a few years back. However, like the films' homicidal zombified flatfoot himself, the remake endeavor has been reanimated, this time in the form of a television project at HBO!
In a fascinating resurrection and repurposing of the formerly-mooted remake film project, Nicolas Winding Refn will head a Maniac Cop remake event television series for HBO, reports Variety. Refn steps in a showrunner, and will also direct the entirety of the series alongside John Hyams, essentially reviving the would-be lineup for the 2016 remake movie attempt. Maniac Cop, a TV series reimagining of the cult classic film franchise from Nicolas Winding Refn and John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Regeneration), has been greenlighted by HBO, which will carry the event series in North America, and by Canal+, which has taken French rights.
The series makes the first production for byNWR Originals, ab independent studio launched by Refn as an offshoot of his byNWR.com Web site. He and Hyams will executive produce and direct.
Set in Los Angeles, Maniac Cop is told through a kaleidoscope of characters, from cop to common criminal. A killer in uniform has uncaged mayhem upon the streets. Paranoia leads to social disorder as a city wrestles with the mystery of the exterminator in blue – is he mere mortal, or a supernatural force? You can watch a trailer of the film below the story.
Maniac Cop has been a long-time passion project for Refn.

Rumors of the Maniac Cop remake's demise may have been greatly exaggerated. Filmmaker John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Regeneration) was tapped in 2016 to breathe new life into the 1988 genre classic. However, franchise creator Larry Cohen poured some cold water on the situation when he insisted that the movie wasn't happening anymore. Now, Hyams is saying that it's still very much alive and will be totally different than the original.
John Hyams was recently a guest on the Movie Crypt podcast. During the course of the conversation, the topic turned to his Maniac Cop remake. Hyams was not only very confident that the project is still going to move forward, with Nicolas Winding Refn producing via his Space Rocket Nation production company, but that this would be a unique take on the material. Here's what John Hyams had to say about it.
"It will be a completely different thing tonally. I think that's why I was hired.

Blue Underground let us know about a release date move for their upcoming Blu-ray release of Maniac, but it's for good reason. Previously scheduled for release in November, the new date is December 11th, which is giving Blue Underground extra time to upgrade the bonus features disc from the originally planned DVD format to a Blu-ray.

The third and final day of Famous Monsters’ inaugural Silver Scream Fest kicked off with a real-time painting of the Joker by ambidextrous artist Rob Prior. Having been part of the show since day one, he’s painted in his unique style, listening to music, using Windex, in his Zone, surrounded by a crowd of fascinated onlookers.
Fielding questions from onlookers after he was finished, he explained how he came to paint ambidextrously: Born right-handed, he came to the frightful consideration as a child, what if he lost his right hand? So he trained his left hand to do everything his right did. We’ve all been there, right?
Another fan asked what music he listened to when he painted, and he said that he generally let the painting dictate the music. When he painted the Bride of Frankenstein earlier this weekend, it was classical. When he painted the Joker,...

Last month, we reported that the Maniac Cop remake is gearing up to start production next spring, with John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning) set to direct and filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn on board as a producer. While we still have several months before filming will begin, Bloody-Disgusting spotted the first sales artwork for the remake at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California. There are no cast members attached so far, but the poster teases the gritty look that the filmmakers intend to deliver.
The original Maniac Cop is set in New York City, following a string of grisly murders that eyewitnesses say were committed by a cop. Tom Atkins plays Frank McCrae, who heads up the investigation that eventually points to a young police officer named Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell), who was set up by the real killer and a mysterious woman. Both Frank and Jack,...

The Stop and Frisk initiative in New York is about to get a whole lot scarier. The Maniac Cop remake is finally getting ready to shoot on location in the city, with production kicking off in the spring of 2016. John Hyams, best known for his Universal Soldier sequels Day of Reckoning and Regeneration, is directing. Cult favorite director Nicolas Winding Refn, the man behind 2011's Drive starring Ryan Gosling, will produce alongside William Lustig.
Maniac Cop has been in development since 2012. The screenplay is being penned by prolific comic book writer and raconteur Ed Brubaker. John Hyams says that William Lustig, the man who directed the original Maniac Cop trilogy, specifically sought him out for the role. The director explains.
"I'm a huge admirer of both producers and I'd been looking to do something that bridges the gap between action and horror like this. The script is able to re-invent...

It looks like the cameras may finally start rolling on the remake of William Lustig's 1988 horror crime flick, Maniac Cop, as director John Hyams is pencilling in a spring shoot for the new take.
According to Variety, Hyams plans to film the Maniac Cop remake in New York City from a script by Ed Brubaker (Angel of Death).
On board as a producer, Lustig is involved with the remake, along with Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, The Neon Demon), who is also producing. Here's what Hyams told Variety about the remake's script:
"The script is able to re-invent the original with the same mythology. We had thought about shooting in the fall, but we decided on the spring to give ourselves enough time to get the best cast and crew."

As a composer, I'm quick to acknowledge the role of music in setting the tone for a horror film, and while theme songs with lyrics and vocals can be just as effective as an instrumental score, there are definitely risks involved: along with clothing and hairstyles, songs tend to anchor a film to the year it was made, and as tastes change, a pop tune can be exposed as a quaint and silly relic of its decade. Then again, some of those tracks were pretty goofy to begin with, and nothing could have saved them. With that said, I love every one of these oddball themes to death (even the truly painful ones), so I'd like to share with you the best of the weirdest, straight from one of my more... uh, let's say “eccentric” party playlists. Let's rock! Fat Boys: “Are You Ready for Freddy?” (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master,...

There’s no denying that music has proven itself to be an integral part of our favorite horror films, to the point that the iconic scores for films like Halloween and Psycho are as important an aspect of the movies as the stories and characters themselves. But we’ve already talked about our favorite horror scores here on Fearnet in the past, so that’s not quite what we’re here to discuss today.
Ya see, many horror movies over the years have been given their very own songs, which have either been featured within the movies or played over their end credits. It’s not something that often happens nowadays, but back in the 80s and 90s, it wasn’t all that uncommon for studios to task musicians with writing and performing original songs for their horror movies. Ah, the good old days.

Anyone who has read my writings or listened to Dinner for Fiends or the Foycast over the years should already be well aware of my love for Maniac Cop 2. Love of this magnitude cannot be adequately conveyed with mere words on the printed paper or scrolling text on a computer screen. "The World's End"
What's It About? The third installment of Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy, following 2004's "Shaun of the Dead" and 2007's "Hot Fuzz," "The World's End" features a group of five reuniting friends. They embark on an epic drinking marathon in an effort to top their pub crawl from 20 years prior, only this time an unexpected alien invasion strikes.
Why We're In: A refreshing blend of comedy and sci-fi, "The World's End" is the perfectly charming film to spoof the apocalypse genre and keep you endlessly entertained. Plus, it features hilarious (as always) performances from Wright staples Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.

William Lustig says on the Blu-ray/DVD edition of Maniac Cop 2 that it’s his best film, and this writer wholeheartedly agrees. Also undeniable is that Maniac Cop 2 is one of the early-’90s horror films that has been most in need of digital resuscitation, and Blue Underground’s new Collector’s Edition is cause for rejoicing. Maniac […]...

By the end of Maniac Cop 2 (1990), director William Lustig and screenwriter Larry Cohen have all but cleaned up their corner of Fun City-era New York. A would-be politician publicly confesses his previous crimes, a babbling wannabe serial killer gets caught, and the zombie cop of the film's title is laid to rest. But the film's grim tone is established early on with the death of two of its predecessor's main characters. Like most of Lustig and Cohen's films, Maniac Cop 2 is dopey fun. The plot — Robert Davi's stoic detective and Claudia Christian's pushy psychologist hunt an undead lawman (Robert Z'Dar) — is pretty dull, but the film handily coasts on sleazy charm. Strip club beardos, blind vets hawking newspapers, and pissy cab driver...

At long last - the notorious rappin' TV ad for Eve of Destruction that boasted an awesomely cheesy rap song explaining the flick’s premise. Few who saw this commercial that ran for only two weeks leading up to the film's release in January 1991 have ever forgotten it. Hero... Before the clock hits zero!
It might be a 30-second commercial jingle rather than an actual song, and it isn’t even included in the movie; yet, this previously long lost promo is the epitome of what B-Sides is all about. Not since the Maniac Cop 2 closing credits rap song has there been b-movie hip hop greatness of this caliber.
Charles Jackson a.k.a. C.J. Skyy and Michael Haney a.k.a. Ice Mike busted the rhymes about a thermonuclear cyborg being chased by Gregory Hines.

“Shooting Cordell is only good for getting his attention!”
Director William Lustig’s Maniac Cop 2 (1990) picked up right where Maniac Cop (1988) left off and did a great job of continuing the chaos. Both films even had the same tag line: “You have the right to remain silent . . . Forever!” The sequel has badge-wearing wacko Matt Cordell (Robert Z’dar), the crazed, murderous “Maniac Cop” of the first film (now even more monstrously disfigured after a brutal stay in prison) teaming up with Turkel (Leo Rossi), a crazed degenerate serial killer on ‘a crusade against the whores of the world’, who likes to murder strippers. They’re up against frenzied, chain smoking NYPD detective Sean McKinney (movie veteran Robert Davi), who is just one step ahead of a nervous breakdown and feisty police psychologist Susan Riley (the gorgeous Claudia Christian). Sean McKinney’s nerves don’t get much relief when officers...
