Guardians of the Galaxy fans might be in for a surprise — just because a certain star isn’t returning for Doomsday doesn’t mean they’re out of Avengers: Secret Wars. With the multiverse in full swing, anything is possible, and Marvel has a habit of pulling off unexpected comebacks.

After a few sluggish years, superhero movies finally have their mojo back, and fans might have Deadpool & Wolverine to thank for it. The hype is real, and theaters are filling up again, and fans are excited. It feels like the spark that was missing has finally been reignited.
Now, the big question is, what’s next? Marvel is gearing up with Thunderbolts* and the highly awaited Fantastic Four reboot, while James Gunn is laying the foundation for a brand-new DC era. On paper, it all sounds epic. But despite all the buzz, these movies aren’t exactly topping the charts when it comes to fan anticipation.

While fans are excited about the bunch of names that were announced for the film, they were also curious about some of the notable names that were absent from the roster. Interestingly, when Downey Jr. commented on the “deep bench of talent”, Marvel Studios responded with an interesting response regarding the absent stars.

Marvel has assembled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.
On Wednesday, the studio slowly unveiled the cast for the upcoming superhero blockbuster from filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo. During a five-hour and 23-minute live stream, 27 actors were announced as participants, culminating with Robert Downey Jr. appearing in person (the only cast member to do so). Downey, who played Tony Stark in the original Infinity Saga of Marvel Cinematic Universe films, is starring as the villainous Doctor Doom for his Marvel return. The Oscar-winning star put his index finger to his mouth before walking off screen, a potential hat-tip to how Doom might infiltrate the Marvel heroes — by pretending to be Stark's Iron Man but from a different dimension.
More than 10 million viewers watched the live stream on the social media platform X, and countless more watched it on YouTube.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been through lots of ups and downs since Iron Man blasted off in 2008. Arguably, it's been in a bit of a down period of late, with movies like The Marvels underperforming. But Marvel is trying to right the ship, and they just might do it with Avengers: Doomsday, their next big event movie.
The marketing, at least, is already a smash. Marvel is revealing the names of all the cast members in a live stream watched by millions of people. And the cast is huge. Here's everyone who's been unveiled, in the order they were introduced:

On Mar. 26, 2025, Marvel Studios decided to announce the cast for Avengers: Doomsday in the most frustrating way: a live stream unveiling a series of chairs with the actors' names on them at a rate of every 15 to 20 minutes. It was equally exciting but also baffling. With each new name reveal, however, a greater piece of the McU's future comes into play. The second name revealed was Vannesa Kirby, who is set to play Sue Storm, a.k.a. The Invisible Woman, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Yet one name that likely shocked many was the announcement of Tenoch Huerta Mejía, returning as Namor.
Namor was introduced into the MCU in 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but since then, there has been no news about the character's plans, partially due to Marvel Studios not having the solo film rights for the character. Yet the news that Namor and Invisible Woman...

While he is sure to be just a little biased, The Fantastic Four: First Steps actor Paul Walter Hauser is confident that the upcoming Marvel Studios reboot will be the best movie released this year - and may even prove to be an historical benchmark for the studio.
While speaking to The Direct, the Black Bird star - who is believed to be playing the villainous Mole Man in the movie - hyped up Marvel's First Family's latest big-screen adventure by comparing it to the likes of the first Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther. He also alluded to First Steps getting the MCU "back on track."
“So, I think our movie, Fantastic Four: First Steps, to me, only speaking from my opinion, everything I witnessed and took part in, everything I felt while in the presence of the creatives on the film, I believe we are the Marvel movie of the year.

The ever-growing cast list for the upcoming MCU sequel Avengers: Doomsday continues to churn out names, and while many of the names emblazoned across the back of a chair are unsurprising, one name has stood out so far. The ongoing announcement has now confirmed that one of the MCU’s best (but sadly forgotten) villains will return to the franchise several years after making their debut.
As per the video announcement, stood alongside MCU staples such as Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, and Anthony Mackie is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who will return as the sometimes villain and occasional antihero, Namor. Unlike many of the names revealed so far, this comes as something of a surprise, as Namor has not played any part in the franchise since his debut back in the 2022 Black Panther sequel. Nor has there been much indication that he will be back.

This summer sees Marvel Studios‘ first massive superhero reboot attempt since relaunching “Spider-Man” in 2016 as they’ll be giving us a new retro-futuristic Multiverse version of Marvel’s first family, “The Fantastic Four.”
Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”) is part of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” cast and is now making quite the sales pitch for the Matt Shakman-directed (“WandaVision”) pic while speaking with The Direct, suggesting that it’ll be “the Marvel movie of the year” (“Thunderbolts*” is coming out in May) along with comparing it to the likes of landmark MCU films “Black Panther” and “Guardians of The Galaxy.”

Red Skull was one of the welcome surprises of Avengers: Infinity War, where the character was seen guarding the Soul Stone. Come Avengers: Endgame, audiences met the character again, years before he would guide Thanos (and Gamora) to get the soul stone, assisting Clint and Natasha to do the same.

During the events of the grand finale of the Infinity Saga in Avengers: Endgame, the time heist cost the life of Natasha Romanoff, who sacrificed herself so that Clint Barton could acquire the Soul Stone from Vormir. Previously, Thanos had murdered Gamora in the same exact spot to receive his Soul Stone. However, unlike the Mad Titan, Barton had probably left something behind with Natasha’s corpse, that might have wider ramifications for the MCU.

Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic actor Pedro Pascal and Hawkgirl actor Isabela Merced touched upon The Fantastic Four: First Steps vs. Superman box office battle. This comes after Superman promo art highlighted the "aura" of David Corenswet's Man of Steel.
The actors brought this subject up during a press conference for The Last of Us Season 2 (via X), with Merced professing, "Franchises are cool...perfect segue. Superman and Fantastic Four. Competition!" Pascal went on to further note, "See you this summer!"
Putting the spotlight on Superman, Superman writer-director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn avowed that David Corenswet's Superman performance will "blow people the f--- away" in October, affirming at the time, "He is the movie star that everyone just dreams he could possibly be. And I don't think anyone really understands the depth of this guy's talent, dramatically, comedically, he's the best physical action star I've probably ever worked with.

Pedro Pascal was nothing short of flustered by a question about his upcoming role in Marvel’s “Fantastic Four” on Monday night, but not because he needed to dodge spoilers while answering. This one was more of an, uh, anatomy question.
Sitting down with Pascal ahead of Season 2 of “The Last of Us,” Jimmy Kimmel took the opportunity to also ask about “The Fantastic Four,” noting that in the first trailer for the film, we don’t actually see Reed Richards, a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic, use his powers to stretch.
So, with a second trailer potentially on the horizon — Kimmel noted he heard it might come on 4/4 — the host wanted to know if we might see Pascal stretch onscreen sooner than later.
“I don’t know,” Pascal deflected. “You see all the saliva like evaporating in my throat? Now I’m nervous.”

Isabela Merced has a packed year ahead. She will take on the role of Kendra Saunders, also known as Hawkgirl, in the upcoming Superman film, which is currently in production. She’s also set to appear in the second season of The Last of Us, where she will portray Dina.
Taking into account the massive popularity of both franchises, needles to say Merced is quickly becoming a fan-favorite in the circles.
Recently, Merced spoke about Dina, Ellie’s love interest, and Jesse’s ex in The Last of Us Season 2. She is a free-spirited person who is deeply loyal to Ellie, but that loyalty is tested by the harsh world they live in. The actress recently commented on the role and admitted several interesting things.
“I kind of see Dina as an extension of myself if I ever found myself in a post-apocalyptic situation, I would try to lighten up things a bit.

Disney's bad luck continues, and they are running out of cards to play. Recently, several channels were scheduled to be dropped from Verizon/Fios' cable package, as they abandon their spot on cable altogether in favor of streaming. Unfortunately, Disney+ also shed subscribers, their parent company's stock crashing 50% over a 4-year span, hitting their ceiling as they jack up prices in an already brutal economy. Not surprisingly, they canned 6% of their news department (closing FiveThirty Eight entirely) to trim costs.

Ever since Avengers: Endgame concluded the MCU’sInfinity Saga in 2019, many fans have felt that subsequent films in Marvel's franchise have lacked the same type of cohesive narrative. To make matters worse, the controversy surrounding Jonathan Majors’ personal life spelled clear trouble for Marvel’s future projects involving Kang the Conqueror. Thankfully, Loki managed to end the threat of Kang as the MCU’s next major villain rather well. However, when Disney finally moved on from Majors, and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was ultimately scrapped, many fans were concerned about the direction Marvel planned to take the MCU in the future. Given they had been laying the groundwork for Kang the Conqueror for quite a while, shifting gears felt like an unprepared afterthought.

Since the 1960s, few artists and writers could claim as much dominance over popular culture as Stan Lee. Tapping into the psyche and neuroses of young adults, he soon expanded his empire across the world, helping to redefine the superhero genre after the decline of the comic book industry in the '50s. The creator behind The X-Men, Spider-Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, and The Fantastic Four, his reach extended beyond comic books, branching off into a billion-dollar film universe under Disney as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the symbol of the modern action blockbuster.

Ever since Secret Invasion first dropped, the show has made a lot of controversial choices. All in all, what was left when the show was wrapped up was a steaming hotchpotch of plot threads that could have easily been a Saga of its own in the MCU. Why Secret Invasion would be a show and not something like The Infinity Saga is beyond understanding, but the show itself also left much to be desired.

While there was a section of the fandom that wished that the show was written out of canon or ignored like the wider MCU does to The Inhumans and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil: Born Again brings some sad news. Not only is Secret Invasion not something that is going to be swept under the rug, but all the events that occurred in it were canon.

Each issue will feature a different writer-artist team, pit Godzilla against a different Marvel hero, and be set in a different era for Marvel Comics. The full list, in release order, is as follows:
"Godzilla vs The Fantastic Four" #1, set in the 1960s
"Godzilla vs The Hulk" #1, set in the 1970s
"Godzilla vs Spider-Man" #1, set in the 1980s

The upcoming Avengers sequels, Doomsday and Secret Wars, see Robert Downey Jr. shift from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most beloved hero to its biggest villain. However, the directors of the highly anticipated blockbusters believe the man who played Tony Stark/Iron Man to great acclaim is the best fit to portray Doctor Doom.
Speaking with The Times, Avengers franchise helmers Joe and Anthony Russo were asked about Downey Jr.'s portrayal of Victor von Doom and whether he could seamlessly make the switch to playing the McU's new big bad after being so synonymous with Iron Man. Asked about how the Oscar-winning actor could return as a different character after Stark's heartbreaking death in Endgame, Anthony grinned and stated, “We can’t explain that as it’s part of the story.” However, he and his brother are adamant that Downey Jr. is a perfect choice for Doctor Doom and...

A new report says that some fan-favorite animated Marvel Cinematic Universe characters may be returning for Avengers: Doomsday. The movie will continue exploring the McU's multiverses.
According to a report from The Cosmic Circus, Marvel Studios is exploring ways to bring their animated properties into Avengers: Doomsday, and it's likely to be done in an animated format respective to their original universe, rather than trying to adapt them into live-action. This means that Avengers: Doomsday could have scenes similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Space Jam, with the animated characters appearing on-screen with the live-action cast.
The report also clarifies that while the animated Loki character Miss Minutes is expected to return for Doomsday, the information is in addition to her interactions on screen, hinting at more animated characters from other Marvel properties. Avengers: Doomsday ups the stakes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga. The highly anticipated blockbuster sees the titular supergroup take on a new and nefarious big bad in Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, with its working title playing into the shenanigans fans can expect in the saga's latest chapter. The movie's pre-production budget is also a sign that a massive budget will be given to the Avengers sequels.
Per Forbes, the official working title for Doomsday is "For All Time Productions UK," with principal photography on the film expected to commence later this month in London. Fans of the hit MCU Disney+ series, Loki, will be familiar with that phrase, as the Time Variance Authority's (Tva) motto is "For All Time, Always." The working title could hint at the multiversal madness that's likely to unfold when the Avengers face off with Earth-616's Victor von Doom.

Avengers: Secret Wars brings the titular comic book crossover event to the big screen as the superhero blockbuster concludes an era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, directors Joe and Anthony Russo tease that the big-screen adaptation will put a twist on the Marvel Comics story.
Speaking with TechRadar, the Russos were asked about Secret Wars and how much inspiration the film will take from the titular comic storyline. Though the source material forms the foundation of the Phase Six movie, Joe insists that the comics form a "loose" inspiration for the upcoming tentpole, insisting he and his brother will tell their "own version" of the groundbreaking event.

While the legacy of Stan Lee is written across the world of Marvel and beyond, his final days were tragically spent suffering mistreatment, manipulation, and abuse. While he will always be remembered fondly by fans, a new documentary Stan Lee: The Final Chapter seeks to shed light on this troubling exploitation of the Marvel icon during his last years.
Directed by Jon Bolerjack, the documentary offers an unflinching look at how Lee was manipulated by those closest to him for financial gain, especially during his public appearances and conventions. The documentary makers are seeking support via Kickstarter to complete the film, but the first official trailer can be viewed below.

There's a great deal of excitement surrounding The Fantastic Four: First Steps and last month's teaser trailer launch promised fans a movie that's unlike anything they've seen from Marvel Studios before.
After all, the reboot's retro-futuristic 1960s setting and an alternate reality New York that will come under attack from Galactus and the Silver Surfer all add up to what should be a...fantastic...take on Marvel's First Family.
When will we get a new look at the reboot? Unsurprisingly, a new trailer is expected to be released in time for Thunderbolts*'s arrival in theaters this May. In fact, according to InsiderFandom, The Fantastic Four: First Steps' next sneak peek will drop on April 4.
This feels more akin to a lucky guess than a "scoop," but we'll likely catch wind of a possible trailer release nearer the time. 4/4 does seem a fitting date for something but still feels a...

Marvel’s long-awaited First Family is integral to the canon of Marvel Comics, but they’ve been absent from the MCU. With The Fantastic Four: First Steps on the way, now is the perfect time to examine what past films got wrong.
Some movie adaptations of the Fantastic Four were well-received and beloved by fans, while another was broadly panned. A 1994 low-budget film adaptation that many regard as faithful also exists, though it was never released. The team’s balance is so at home in comics that some things are difficult to translate to the screen effectively.
Focusing On individual Members Doesn't Work
Every Fantastic Four movie so far has tried to focus on each character separately. Breaking up the team into four parts works in the panels of a comic book, but the essence of the team is lost when they’re divided. The Four functions best when they work together,...

Jamie Bell and Kate Mara started dating while shooting 2015's disastrous Fantastic Four reboot, perhaps the only good thing to come out of a movie plagued by studio interference.
Over the years, neither they nor co-stars Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, and Toby Kebbell have shied away from sharing their disdain for the 20th Century Fox-produced Marvel Comics adaptation.
When all was said and done, Fantastic Four grossed a mere $167.9 million at the worldwide box office in 2015, with filmmaker Trank disowning the studio-mandated cut days before it arrived in theaters. Boasting a 9% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it remains one of the worst-reviewed comic book movies ever.
Despite that, when Cbr caught up with Mara at SXSW this weekend, the actor declined to share any further negativity about making the ill-fated take on the iconic foursome.
"I don't have anything negative to say about it," she said of Fantastic Four.

This post contains spoilers for season 1 of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man."
The title "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" suggests a small-time superhero, but the series' 10-episode debut season pulled in faces from all across the Marvel Universe. Among the main cast, the show reinvented Nico Minoru (Grace Song) of "The Runaways" as the goth best friend of Peter Parker (Hudson Thames).
I grew up on the 1990s "Spider-Man" cartoon, which often featured Mighty Marvel Team-Ups between Spidey and other superheroes: X-Men, Captain America, etc. "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is doing the same. Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes) shows up in the premiere and the finale. Daredevil (Charlie Cox) shows up in episode 6 to spar with Spider-Man, and his apprentice Finesse (Anjali Kunapaneni) is posing as one of Peter's fellow Oscorp interns.

Alex Perez, an industry insider, had some key insights about what Avengers: Doomsday is going to look like. A slew of characters old and new are expected to be a part of the story that is going to take out Doctor Doom, including Avengers old and new, along with the Fantastic Four.

Perez also suggests that a handful of mutants that cannot be mentioned yet will be instrumental to Avengers: Doomsday. Given that the X-Men have not yet gotten their time to shine in the MCU just yet, only being relegated to cameos here and there, it remains to be seen which mutants are actually going to come into play in the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga.

I’ll admit it here – I spent seven whole years thinking Bird Box was just Sandra Bullock’s show. Don’t get me wrong though, she crushed it.

But recently, something hit me like a blindfolded sprint into a tree: John Malkovich was the real Mvp. The man played the grumpy, no-nonsense cynic so flawlessly that he made everyone around him shine, without actually stealing the spotlight.
His character wasn’t the hero, the villain, or even the emotional anchor. But somehow, he was essential. And now, I can’t unsee it.

After over a decade of playing the Avengers’ leader and Marvel protagonist Iron Man (Tony Stark), Robert Downey Jr. is getting ready to trade in his hero status for a darker venture, playing Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom (Victor Von Doom) in two upcoming Marvel films.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Joe and Anthony Russo, co-directors of the last two Avengers movies, were asked how it was to reunite with Downey, for Avengers: Doomsday and how he’s preparing for the role.
“It’s a very intense process developing the character,” Joe said. “He’s so immersed in it. He is so dialed in.”
He continued, “[Downey’s] writing backstory, costume ideas … I think he just loves really rich, three-dimensional characters and I think he sees a real opportunity here with that character.”
In July, Downey surprised the crowd at Comic-Con by taking off his mask onstage to reveal that he would play Doctor Doom.

Marvel Comics will kill Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer, in an upcoming limited series set to take place this summer. The five-issue event— Death of the Silver Surfer will hit shelves this June, by writer Greg Pak and artist Sumit Kumar.

Avengers: Secret Wars promises a climactic conclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Six, with long-standing rumors circulating that the upcoming superhero blockbuster will reboot the MCU. One of Marvel's executives plays down the speculation, denying any studio plans to "start from scratch."
During an interview with Screen Off Script (via ComicBookMovie.com), Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum addressed reports that the MCU will undergo a reboot once Secret Wars debuts in a little over two years from now. Winderbaum stressed that it's a "very difficult thing" to reboot something as extensive as the MCU, which has been around since 2008, due to the many moments and stories it's offered. According to Winderbaum, a full reboot is unlikely.

Marvel’s First Family is set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe this summer, and if new reports prove to be accurate, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has a rumored runtime that could be more epic than many recent MCU movies. According to a new listing on UK theater chain Odeon’s website, the arrival of The Fantastic Four will be a record-breaker for the superhero team, and be the longest Marvel movie since 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.
Runtimes are often published several months before a film hits the big screen, but can change over time as placeholders are replaced by actual confirmed movie lengths. If the Odeon’s listing is correct, then Fantastic Four: First Steps will be 140 minutes long, making it the 10th longest MCU movie behind Avengers: Age of Ultron, which came in at 141 minutes.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps may show an extended look at Marvel's first family if a new update is to be believed. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe tentpole seemingly reveals its runtime, with its screening potentially setting a two-year-old MCU record.
According to an official listing by the UK-based Odeon Cinemas (via GamesRadar+), First Steps will run for 2 hours and 20 minutes. If Odeon's runtime is accurate, First Steps would be the longest MCU film since 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes. It should be noted that the MCU film that preludes First Steps, Thunderbolts*, has yet to reveal its runtime, giving The Fantastic Four remake the two-year-old record for now.

Avengers: Doomsday welcomes Robert Downey Jr. back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though the film sees the Oscar-winning actor switch to the dark side after being the titular supergroup's heroic leader for so long. With Downey Jr. appearing for the first time since the emotional ending of Endgame, Doomsday writer Stephen McFeely insists the movie won't be "betraying" that tragic Tony Stark scene.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of the Netflix film, The Electric State, McFeely addressed reuniting with Doomsday's directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, and the shock return of Downey Jr. six years after Endgame's release. Like many fans, McFeely was stunned by the "electric" announcement last summer that Downey Jr. would play Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom in Doomsdayand was hesitant about the idea. However, he insisted the next Avengers sequel wouldn't undermine Endgame's "lovely" ending.
