Yesterday, Marvel Studios spent the better part of a day revealing the Avengers: Doomsday cast. The list has left us with much to discuss, including the absence of certain key characters. 

Beyond that, what exactly does the big cast unveiling tell us about this movie...well, aside from who will be shooting the thing this summer, of course!

Avengers: Doomsday cast was announced on March 26, and it included Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, The Fantastic Four stars, Thunderbolts* actors, and returning X-Men stars. While fans are excited about the bunch of names that were announced for the film, they were also curious about some of the notable names that were absent from the roster. Interestingly, when Downey Jr. commented on the “deep bench of talent”, Marvel Studios responded with an interesting response regarding the absent stars.

Marvel has assembled the cast of Avengers: Doomsday.

On Wednesday, the studio slowly unveiled the cast for the upcoming superhero blockbuster from filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo. During a five-hour and 23-minute live stream, 27 actors were announced as participants, culminating with Robert Downey Jr. appearing in person (the only cast member to do so). Downey, who played Tony Stark in the original Infinity Saga of Marvel Cinematic Universe films, is starring as the villainous Doctor Doom for his Marvel return. The Oscar-winning star put his index finger to his mouth before walking off screen, a potential hat-tip to how Doom might infiltrate the Marvel heroes — by pretending to be Stark's Iron Man but from a different dimension.

More than 10 million viewers watched the live stream on the social media platform X, and countless more watched it on YouTube.

As expected, the World's Mightiest Heroes will be filled with beloved characters from different series, including the original Avengers, many original X-Men, and The Fantastic Four. However, where is Tom Holland's Spider-Man?

The almost-five-hour live stream introduced several beloved original characters, like Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Sam Wilson/ Captain America (Anthony Mackie), Scott Lang/ Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), and Loki (Tom Hiddleston), alongside a series of recently introduced or older characters.

On Mar. 26, 2025, Marvel Studios decided to announce the cast for Avengers: Doomsday in the most frustrating way: a live stream unveiling a series of chairs with the actors' names on them at a rate of every 15 to 20 minutes. It was equally exciting but also baffling. With each new name reveal, however, a greater piece of the McU's future comes into play. The second name revealed was Vannesa Kirby, who is set to play Sue Storm, a.k.a. The Invisible Woman, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Yet one name that likely shocked many was the announcement of Tenoch Huerta Mejía, returning as Namor.

Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”) is part of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” cast and is now making quite the sales pitch for the Matt Shakman-directed (“WandaVision”) pic while speaking with The Direct, suggesting that it’ll be “the Marvel movie of the year” (“Thunderbolts*” is coming out in May) along with comparing it to the likes of landmark MCU films “Black Panther” and “Guardians of The Galaxy.”

During the events of the grand finale of the Infinity Saga in Avengers: Endgame, the time heist cost the life of Natasha Romanoff, who sacrificed herself so that Clint Barton could acquire the Soul Stone from Vormir. Previously, Thanos had murdered Gamora in the same exact spot to receive his Soul Stone. However, unlike the Mad Titan, Barton had probably left something behind with Natasha’s corpse, that might have wider ramifications for the MCU.

Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic actor Pedro Pascal and Hawkgirl actor Isabela Merced touched upon The Fantastic Four: First Steps vs. Superman box office battle. This comes after Superman promo art highlighted the "aura" of David Corenswet's Man of Steel.

The actors brought this subject up during a press conference for The Last of Us Season 2 (via X), with Merced professing, "Franchises are cool...perfect segue. Superman and Fantastic Four. Competition!" Pascal went on to further note, "See you this summer!"

Putting the spotlight on Superman, Superman writer-director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn avowed that David Corenswet's Superman performance will "blow people the f--- away" in October, affirming at the time, "He is the movie star that everyone just dreams he could possibly be. And I don't think anyone really understands the depth of this guy's talent, dramatically, comedically, he's the best physical action star I've probably ever worked with.

Recently, Merced spoke about Dina, Ellie’s love interest, and Jesse’s ex in The Last of Us Season 2. Per Nexus Point News, Rachna Fruchbom is slated to write the series for Disney+ that is reportedly in early development at Marvel Studios. She will also run the series and serve as executive producer.

Ever since Secret Invasion first dropped, the show has made a lot of controversial choices. All in all, what was left when the show was wrapped up was a steaming hotchpotch of plot threads that could have easily been a Saga of its own in the MCU. Why Secret Invasion would be a show and not something like The Infinity Saga is beyond understanding, but the show itself also left much to be desired.

There is little doubt that Disney is the most dominant corporation in the entertainment industry. A new report says that some fan-favorite animated Marvel Cinematic Universe characters may be returning for Avengers: Doomsday. The movie will continue exploring the McU's multiverses.

According to a report from The Cosmic Circus, Marvel Studios is exploring ways to bring their animated properties into Avengers: Doomsday, and it's likely to be done in an animated format respective to their original universe, rather than trying to adapt them into live-action. This means that Avengers: Doomsday could have scenes similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Space Jam, with the animated characters appearing on-screen with the live-action cast.

The report also clarifies that while the animated Loki character Miss Minutes is expected to return for Doomsday, the information is in addition to her interactions on screen, hinting at more animated characters from other Marvel properties. This opens up the Avengers movie to have cameos from characters in What If...?, the Disney...

Over the years, neither they nor co-stars Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, and Toby Kebbell have shied away from sharing their disdain for the 20th Century Fox-produced Marvel Comics adaptation.

When all was said and done, Fantastic Four grossed a mere $167.9 million at the worldwide box office in 2015, with filmmaker Trank disowning the studio-mandated cut days before it arrived in theaters. Boasting a 9% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it remains one of the worst-reviewed comic book movies ever.

Despite that, when Cbr caught up with Mara at SXSW this weekend, the actor declined to share any further negativity about making the ill-fated take on the iconic foursome.

"I don't have anything negative to say about it," she said of Fantastic Four.

Kate Mara, the star of 2015's infamous Fantastic Four box-office bomb, recently shared her thoughts about the upcoming MCU reboot. The Fantastic Four characters will kick off Phase 6 of the MCU later this summer.

Speaking with Screen Rant at this year's SXSW, Kate Mara briefly talked about The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer and her thoughts on it. "I did see the trailer. The cast is so great. I love all of those actors, so I'm excited to see it. It looks very different," she commented. Mara previously played Sue Storm in the 2015 superhero film, which saw 20th Century Fox unsuccessfully trying to reboot Marvel's First Family's film franchise.

The title "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" suggests a small-time superhero, but the series' 10-episode debut season pulled in faces from all across the Marvel Universe. Alex Perez, an industry insider, had some key insights about what Avengers: Doomsday is going to look like. A slew of characters old and new are expected to be a part of the story that is going to take out Doctor Doom, including Avengers old and new, along with the Fantastic Four.

Perez also suggests that a handful of mutants that cannot be mentioned yet will be instrumental to Avengers: Doomsday. Given that the X-Men have not yet gotten their time to shine in the MCU just yet, only being relegated to cameos here and there, it remains to be seen which mutants are actually going to come into play in the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga.

I’ll admit it here – I spent seven whole years thinking Bird Box was just Sandra Bullock’s show. Don’t get me wrong though, she crushed it.

But recently, something hit me like a blindfolded sprint into a tree: John Malkovich was the real Mvp. The man played the grumpy, no-nonsense cynic so flawlessly that he made everyone around him shine, without actually stealing the spotlight.

His character wasn’t the hero, the villain, or even the emotional anchor. But somehow, he was essential. And now, I can’t unsee it.

I always thought Bird Box was all Sandra Bullock, until I rewatched it. Sure, Bullock carried the film, but John Malkovich’s Douglas was the glue holding it together.

Avengers: Doomsday sees the key figures in the last two Avengers sequels, Infinity War and Doomsday, return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in star Robert Downey Jr. and directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Though Marvel simultaneously confirmed the trio's return, the Russos claim that Downey Jr. agreed to return to the MCU before they did.

Speaking on the Jake's Takes podcast, the Russos clarified when they began work on Doomsday and how they reunited with Downey Jr. on the upcoming Avengers sequel. Though the announcement of the Russos coincided with Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom announcement at the San Diego Comic-Con last summer, Joe explained that the Oscar-winning actor eyed a return to the MCU before he and his brother agreed to make Doomsday.

The next two Avengers films, Doomsday and Secret Wars, are still far from their theatrical premieres. However, the directors of the upcoming sequels hint at how long they will run, and fans should prepare for their bathroom breaks accordingly.

During an interview with Collider, Doomsday and Secret Wars helmers Joe and Anthony Russo gave the latest progress report on the anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbusters. Joe suggested both films would be long watches like their predecessors, with Secret Wars having the longer runtime. "If I were a betting man," he said. "I would say the first one is two and a half, and the second one's three hours." By comparison, the last two Avengers movies, Infinity War and Endgame, ran for 2 hours and 29 minutes and 3 hours and 1 minute, respectively.

After over a decade of playing the Avengers’ leader and Marvel protagonist Iron Man (Tony Stark), Robert Downey Jr. is getting ready to trade in his hero status for a darker venture, playing Fantastic Four villain Doctor Doom (Victor Von Doom) in two upcoming Marvel films.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Joe and Anthony Russo, co-directors of the last two Avengers movies, were asked how it was to reunite with Downey, for Avengers: Doomsday and how he’s preparing for the role.

“It’s a very intense process developing the character,” Joe said. “He’s so immersed in it. He is so dialed in.”

He continued, “[Downey’s] writing backstory, costume ideas … I think he just loves really rich, three-dimensional characters and I think he sees a real opportunity here with that character.”

In July, Downey surprised the crowd at Comic-Con by taking off his mask onstage to reveal that he would play Doctor Doom.

Avengers: Secret Wars promises a climactic conclusion to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Six, with long-standing rumors circulating that the upcoming superhero blockbuster will reboot the MCU. One of Marvel's executives plays down the speculation, denying any studio plans to "start from scratch."

During an interview with Screen Off Script (via ComicBookMovie.com), Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum addressed reports that the MCU will undergo a reboot once Secret Wars debuts in a little over two years from now. Winderbaum stressed that it's a "very difficult thing" to reboot something as extensive as the MCU, which has been around since 2008, due to the many moments and stories it's offered. According to Winderbaum, a full reboot is unlikely.

Marvel’s First Family is set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe this summer, and if new reports prove to be accurate, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has a rumored runtime that could be more epic than many recent MCU movies. According to a new listing on UK theater chain Odeon’s website, the arrival of The Fantastic Four will be a record-breaker for the superhero team, and be the longest Marvel movie since 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.

Runtimes are often published several months before a film hits the big screen, but can change over time as placeholders are replaced by actual confirmed movie lengths. If the Odeon’s listing is correct, then Fantastic Four: First Steps will be 140 minutes long, making it the 10th longest MCU movie behind Avengers: Age of Ultron, which came in at 141 minutes.

Brosnan, who is, of course, known for his role as James Bond, plays Conrad Harrigan, the head of one of the families. Hardy, who has previously played London mobster twins in Legend, takes on the role of the fixer, Harry Da Souza, who will fight to keep the Harrigan family on top.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps may show an extended look at Marvel's first family if a new update is to be believed. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe tentpole seemingly reveals its runtime, with its screening potentially setting a two-year-old MCU record.

According to an official listing by the UK-based Odeon Cinemas (via GamesRadar+), First Steps will run for 2 hours and 20 minutes. If Odeon's runtime is accurate, First Steps would be the longest MCU film since 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes. It should be noted that the MCU film that preludes First Steps, Thunderbolts*, has yet to reveal its runtime, giving The Fantastic Four remake the two-year-old record for now.

Avengers: Doomsday welcomes Robert Downey Jr. back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though the film sees the Oscar-winning actor switch to the dark side after being the titular supergroup's heroic leader for so long.
