Martin Armiger, composer or music arranger of such movies as Yahoo Serious’ Young Einstein, Alex Proyas’ Dark City, Cherie Nowlan’s Thank God He Met Lizzie, Jane Campion’s Sweetie and Kriv Stenders’ Red Dog, has died in France, aged 70.

UK-born, he began his career as a singer, songwriter and guitarist for legendary Melbourne-based rock band The Sports.

In 1972 he embarked on composing, initially on a short film called Drac. From From 1984 he was the musical director for the the ABC series Sweet and Sour as well as providing backing vocals, lead guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, drums and lyrics and producing the soundtrack album.

His other screen credits include the series The Secret Life of Us, The Surgeon, Come In Spinner and Police Rescue and the documentary Cane Toads.

Australian actor Chum Ehelepola, who plays the roguish Ramtish in Disney’s upcoming live-action Mulan, has signed with Apa.

Born in New Zealand and raised in Sri Lanka and Australia, Ehelepola co-starred in the Australian series The Surgeon opposite Sam Worthington, and The Straits opposite Brian Cox. He also starred in the miniseries How to Talk Australians, directed by Tony Rogers (Wilfred).

The New Fox is ramping up for the 2019-2020 season with six new series pick ups.

The broadcaster handed out orders for four dramas — “Deputy,” “Prodigal Son,” “neXt,” and the untitled Annie Weisman/Jason Katims project — as well as two comedies. One of the comedies is the animated series “The Great North” and the second is the multi-cam “Outmatched,” formerly known as “Geniuses.” These orders join the previously announced straight-to-series orders for the animated comedies “Duncanville” and “Bless the Harts” at Fox.

Each of the newly announced pick ups is a co-production with Fox Entertainment (formerly Fox Broadcasting). The move will allow Fox to maintain a stake in the shows despite not having a vertically-integrated studio like they did before the 21st Century Fox-Disney merger that saw 20th Century Fox Television move under the Disney umbrella. “New Fox” has found its first new shows. Six pilots were ordered to series at Fox for the 2019-20 season Thursday, ahead of the now-independent broadcast network’s upfront presentation to advertisers next week, including four dramas and two comedies.

Among the dramas are David Ayer’s “Deputy,” the John Slattery-led “neXt,” the Greg Berlanti-produced “Prodigal Son,” and an untitled project from Jason Katims and Annie Weisman starring Brittany Snow. Each of those series comes from a different studio — eOne, 20th Century Fox Television, Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, respectively — and is a co-production with Fox Entertainment.

The role was originally held by Finn Jones. Sources say the decision to recast the role came after the pilot’s first table read. This marks one of the first major recastings of this pilot season. This marks the first pilot from an outside studio for Fox this season, with at least one more, Deputy, from eOne, pending. Prodigal Son joins three other Fox pilots — comedies Richard Lovely and Geniuses and drama Filthy Rich — along with two straight-to-series animated comedies — Bless the Hearts and Duncanville — all from the network’s longtime corporate sibling 20th Century Fox TV, which is headed to Disney as part of the $71.3 billion asset acquisition.
