13 ’90s Shows That Flew Under the Radar (But You Can Stream Right Now)
Image
Every time you try to rewatch something from the ’90s, you’re either hit with a dead end or greeted by the usual suspects: Friends, The X-Files, Frasier, rinse, repeat.

But believe it or not, a bunch of lesser-known or long-forgotten series from the same era are available to stream — and some of them are actually worth the dive.

Others? They’re a beautiful mess. Either way, they all offer a slice of what the ’90s felt like: weirdly experimental, syndicated to hell, and somehow full of stars we either forgot or miss seeing on our screens.

(USA Network/Screenshot)

These shows might not be on every nostalgia list, but they ran for multiple seasons, had loyal followings, and still carry that unmistakable ’90s energy.

And the best part? You can actually find them (in full) right now.

Jaleel White Says ‘Seinfeld’s Kramer Inspired His Urkel
Image
The original inspiration for Family Matters’ Urkel was a combination of Pee-wee Herman, the dorks from Revenge of the Nerds and Martin Short’s Ed Grimley, reveals Jaleel White in his memoir Growing Up Urkel. But on a recent episode of the Really No Really? podcast, White revealed that another TV character had a heavy influence on Urkel’s evolution.

“You guys were just killing it,” White told host Jason Alexander about Seinfeld, a show that was peaking while the 16-year-old starred on his Tgif sitcom. “I’m looking at Kramer now as my role model because I’m seeing the spastic nature of his character, and I’m also watching the evolution of his character. Because it wasn’t nearly as spastic in the beginning and neither was mine. That’s something that just kind of happens once the audience starts to hang on to every word because they...

Every Movie & TV Show Coming To (& Leaving) Hulu in February 2025
Image
As January wraps up, Hulu is keeping the momentum going with an impressive lineup of new titles next month. Whether you’re into movies, TV shows, or both, there’s plenty to keep you entertained throughout February.

Hulu is starting strong with over 60 new titles arriving on February 1 alone. Some standout additions include Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2, as well as all four seasons of the classic ’90s drama New York Undercover.

Reality TV fans will also have something to look forward to with the season six premiere of The Kardashians.

But as exciting as the new arrivals are, there’s always the bittersweet reality that some beloved titles are leaving. In February, Hulu will only be removing movies, so TV lovers can breathe easy. However, the list of departing films includes some good titles, like Titane (2021) and Spencer (2021), which earned Kristen Stewart an Oscar nomination.

J.K. Simmons is an Oscar-winning actor best known for portraying the violently obsessed music teacher Fletcher in Whiplash, and the Web Crawler-hating newspaper editor J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, among many other roles. However, the actor has revealed that his most life-changing role didn't come in the form of a movie or a TV show, but in a long-running series of commercials that many fans still don't know he appeared in.

As well as being synonymous with Spider-Man and Jazz music (a strange combination), J.K. Simmons has voiced the iconic yellow M&m for the last 30 years. During a recent interview with GQ, Simmons reflected on his time voicing the beloved candy creation and revealed that it is the most important and life-changing acting job he's ever received. Everything To Know About Dick Wolf's New York Undercover Show
Image
New York Undercover was a groundbreaking police procedural in the 1990s that tackled sensitive topics and provided an authentic portrayal of diverse communities in New York City. The show resonated with Black audiences by offering authentic representation, complex lead characters, and addressing issues like racial profiling and police brutality. New York Undercover was different from other cop shows of its time due to its emphasis on personal lives, cultural authenticity, and the inclusion of hip-hop and R&b music. However, it was canceled due to low viewership and a drop in quality. A reboot is still uncertain but could be successful in today's era of diverse representation.

Dick Wolf is a name synonymous with groundbreaking crime procedural dramas, but one of his greatest projects, New York Undercover, has almost disappeared into obscurity. Wolf's formula of blending gritty realism with complex character development has led to a string of successful shows,...

His right hand is Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman (Issa Rae), who shares the same superhero name as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld). You won’t confuse them though, as each hero has his/her own distinct character design and animation style.

The ‘90s Cop Show That Made Police Procedurals Cool
Image
Police procedurals have become a cool staple on television, but it wasn't always the case. New York Undercover, which graced the screens on Fox between '94 and '99, pioneered the stylish police procedurals as we know them now. Following two young undercover detectives, J.C. Williams (Malik Yoba), and Eddie Torres (Michael DeLorenzo), New York Undercover was like a pitch to you to become a cop. With a diverse cast ensemble and even more realistic storylines, the show was more relatable to a much wider audience. Coming on the heels of the Cold War when spying had ruled the world and shaped film and TV, the show reminded us of the ingenuity of undercover operatives. New York Undercover was also not afraid to tackle issues such as parenting, identity, racism, sexism, and drug abuse, which made the show more than just a police procedural but a social commentary too. Its refreshing...

In Memoriam 2022: 100 Great Celebrities Who Died In 2022

Reddick started his acting career in the 90s with appearances in The West Wing and New York Undercover.

Later on, he moved from his hometown in Baltimore to New York. There, he auditioned for David Simon for a role in The Corner, an HBO show that came two years before The Wire.

Reddick didn’t get the part, but he did earn his first recurring role on HBO’s Oz, where he portrayed an undercover detective.

Simon eventually cast Reddick in his breakout role as Narcotics Unit Lt. Daniels on The Wire. Although the show never became a hit, it received critical acclaim and grew in popularity after its run.

However, long before that, Reddick made his first on-screen appearance in 1996 in the police procedural New York Undercover. From there, he continued to make brief appearances in series like The West Wing and Law and Order. His career only continued to soar after The Wire and lead to some his best performances of all time.

“I love stand-up,” declares Tiffany Haddish, as she reflects on her 25-year career. “That’s where my heart is.” While Haddish’s acting star has been on the ascendant ever since she lit up the screen in her big-screen breakthrough, Girls Trip, in 2017, she knows she’d always be most comfortable in front of a live audience. “Somebody said to me, ‘What if you were told you could never act again?’ I’d say, ‘As long as I can do stand-up, I’m fine with that.’”

And if she was told she couldn’t do that? “I’d be like, ‘I will fight you, and I’m going to find a way.’ If I have to go to barbershops to tell jokes, if I have to go to the grocery store, to the mall, wherever I got to go to tell jokes, I will make it work.”

It’s that...
