Angela Bassett has played many powerful women on screen, but there’s one role she’s always dreamed of.
When Coveteur asked her about it, she didn’t hesitate. “The legend of her power, intellect, and beauty really draws me to her story, and I would love to explore that on the screen,” Bassett said. She was talking about Queen Nefertiti, one of the most famous queens of Egypt’s 18th dynasty.
Nefertiti was no ordinary ruler. Alongside her husband, King Akhenaton, she helped lead a religious revolution and became one of the most influential figures of her time. Her life is still partly a mystery.

Days of Our Lives sees juicy stuff from our favorite leaker about Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) seducing Xander Cook (Paul Telfer). But then falling head over heels for his brother, Philip Kiriakis (John-Paul Lavoisier).
Days of our Lives: Gabi Makes a Move
So, while Ari Hernandez (Al Calderon) was missing and Xander had a baby crisis at the office, he and Gabi had a couple of tender moments. That was in recent episodes. But later this week, Tony Dimera (Thaao Penghlis) hatches an insidious new plan with Gabi, and she may turn those good vibes with Xander into something sexier.
Plus, Gabi is also going to make moves on Philip all as part of her plot with Tony. However, our leaker says Gabi winds up falling head over heels with one of the brothers. Looks like it’s Philip,...

With just weeks to go, the marketing campaign for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is starting to ramp up and Paramount has just shared an insane new featurette, spotlighting the film's high stakes underwater sequence that will be unlike anything you've ever seen on screen.
Teasing the sequence, star/producer Tom Cruise said, "From Legend in 1985 to Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, I have been studying and filming underwater sequences for over 40 years. We have always tried to push our filmmaking to the next level… In this movie McQ and I saw an opportunity to create an underwater sequence unlike any other. We are excited to share it with you."
While the context of the scene remains mostly under wraps, it seems probable that this unprecedented moment will have something to do with the missing Sevastopol, which Ethan Hunt and his Imf team will be racing to locate...

With a few weeks to go, the first tracking data for Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is out and it seems as though his ace Imf agent Ethan Hunt is gearing up to go out with a bang.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, The Final Reckoning is currently looking at an opening in the $72 million to $88 million range, with box office pundits targeting a $80 million domestic launch over the course of the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, which would be a franchise-best, topping the $61.2 million three-day launch for Mission: Impossible - Fallout in 2018.
Meanwhile, Disney's Lilo & Stitch is expected to open around $120 million over the four-day holiday, with projections expecting something in the $110 million to $130 million range, so based on these early estimates, it seems like we're in for one of the biggest movie weekends since 2023's Barbenheimer.

Paramount Pictures has released another amazing new behind-the-scenes featurette from Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, this time shifting the spotlight away from the stunts and onto one of the franchise's most breathtaking shooting locations: Svalbard, Norway!
If you're wondering what brings our heroes to the Arctic, well, it's probably safe to say it'll have something to do with the missing Sevastopol, which sank at the beginning of the previous film.
Dead Reckoning spoilers ahead, but, as we all know now, the completed key that Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) managed to swipe at the end of that film opens a chamber in the Sevastopol that contains the Entity's source code, allowing it to be destroyed or controlled.
The sub's location has remained a mystery until now, but, it looks like, in the two months between adventures, Hunt and company will have cracked its hidding spot in the Arctic Ocean.

Warning: this article contains spoilers from the April 17 finale of 9-1-1. Read at your own risk!
Twenty years ago, Peter Krause's death as funeral director Nate Fisher on Six Feet Under shocked viewers and earned him his third Best Drama Actor Emmy nomination for the role. Cut to today, and Krause is once again causing audiences to have an emotional reaction to one of his character's demises — Los Angeles Fire Dept. Capt. Bobby Nash on 9-1-1. But the actor likely won't receive an Emmy bid this time around.
It boils down to the tug-of-war between prestige TV and popular TV. For the most part, shows that receive Emmy Awards tend to be highbrow, sophisticated, cultured ... yet little-watched. Two programs that recently took over the Emmys — Shōgun (a Japanese historical epic drama) and Succession (about a rich family squabbling over control of their company) — struggled when it came to viewership.

Paramount Pictures has shared a jaw-dropping new look at Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, offering a quick sneak peek at Tom Cruise's most dangerous stunt yet, as he hangs off the wing of a biplane at 8,000 feet, with winds of over 140 mph blasting!

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fans love Avery Brooks as Benjamin Sisko, but there are a few surprising actors who nearly played the role!
Back in 1993, a new Star Trek series was a huge deal for fans. The casting was key for Benjamin Sisko, the veteran mourning his wife, raising a son and commanding this station. Avery Brooks was known for roles in Spenser: For Hire and A Man Called Hawk and nailed the part from the start.
The process to get there was interesting as the producers considered scores of actors. That included before changing Sisko to an African-American lead. While some names are notable, a few are quite surprising in terms of how they could have landed the part.
First, let's get out of the way a few names the producers wanted but were tied up at the time with various other projects: James Avery, Joe Morton, Carl Lumbly,...

Starstruck producer-agency Avalon has taken a minority stake in the production outfit co-run by Adolescence director Philip Barantini.
It’s All Made Up Productions joins the Avalon stable and has plans to open an office in Barantini’s home town of Liverpool, we revealed last year, with a number of projects in development. Avalon, which produces Starstruck and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and reps the likes of Rose Matafeo, Rob Delaney and Lee Mack, did not disclose its percentage stake in It’s All Made Up.
Barantini officially opened It’s All Made Up with finance exec Samantha Beddoe last year and the company has a hefty slate. Barantini is currently riding high off the hit success of Adolescence, which in just three weeks has become one of Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows of all time. The ex-actor’s other credits include Boiling Point, Accused and Enola Holmes.

During last night's Final Four games on CBS, Paramount Pictures announced that the brand new theatrical trailer for Tom Cruise's highly anticipated Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning - which originally debuted at CinemaCon last week - will be released online Monday!
Whether it'll drop during the National Championship Game or earlier in the day remains to be seen, but we'd wager on the latter since that's generally when the studio tends to launch new footage. We'd then expect a TV spot to debut during the game, directing fans online to check out the full-length trailer.
Plot details remain under wraps, but we learned at CinemaCon that the film will pick up two months after the events of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, with Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) still seemingly on the run and presumably on the hunt for the sunken Sevastopol.

Image Source: Amazon When the film How Stella Got Her Groove Back was released in 1998, its star was clearly Angela Bassett, who’d been on a hot streak with movies like Waiting to Exhale, What’s Love Got to Do With It, Contact, and Malcolm X. But now, 27 years later, Stella is remembered less for Bassett’s role than for the first on-screen appearance for a young actor who not only stole the show, but wound up becoming both a Hollywood and a Broadway star in his own right: Taye Diggs. At the time of Stella’s release, Bassett talked about what it was like to work with her young, but then-unknown co-star. Ariana DeBose is defending Angela Bassett’s feelings of “disappointment” after losing at the Oscars to Jamie Lee Curtis.
In a preview for The Weekend View, premiering on Saturday, March 1, at 7:30 a.m. Et on ABC News Live, the co-hosts discuss Bassett’s loss at the Academy Awards in 2023.
DeBose, who presented the Actress in a Supporting Role category at the Oscars to Curtis in 2023 and was a guest co-host on the ABC talk show, gave her take on the situation.
“I know Angela a little, but I know Jamie Lee very well as well,” DeBose said. “You can’t take any of the emotions away from either one of these women. Someone’s disappointment doesn’t negate someone’s joy. And I think there’s an inner workings of how all of this stuff works that a lot of the public don’t get to see. That also compounds the situation.

[This story contains major spoilers from the Zero Day finale.]
Former Vice President Kamala Harris came close to becoming President of the United States but fell short. Angela Bassett doesn’t in Netflix’s new series Zero Day, where she plays President Evelyn Mitchell. The drama series currently streaming is a political conspiracy thriller starring Robert De Niro as former President George Mullen who is tapped by President Mitchell to lead a Zero Day Commission to uncover the forces behind a cyberattack that downed dozens of systems for a full minute, resulting in the deaths of 3,000 people and causing other harm.
Bassett’s President Mitchell stands by Mullen even as public opinion, stoked on by a Joe Rogan-type figure in Evan Green (Dan Stevens), wavers around his actions and mental acuity. Angela Bassett Reflects on Reaction to Losing 2023 Oscar, Says She “Put in the Time” and “Good Work”
Angela Bassett is looking back on the “interesting” reaction to her disappointment in losing the 2023 Oscar to Jamie Lee Curtis.
In an interview with Town and Country, the actress further addressed not winning the best supporting actress Oscar in 2023, which she was nominated for for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The nomination marked her second after being nominated for best actress for What’s Love Got to Do With It in 1994.
“I found it interesting,” she said when looking back at the loss. “Interesting that I wouldn’t be allowed to be disappointed at an outcome where I thought I was deserving.”
Bassett was nominated for her role as Queen Ramonda, while Curtis was nominated and won for her role as IRS agent Deirdre Beaubeirdre in Everything Everywhere All at Once.
At the time, audience members were quick to point the look of disappointment on Bassett’s face when Curtis’ name was called.

Heading into the 95th Academy Awards, the Best Supporting Actress race was between Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Jamie Lee Curtis for Everything Everywhere All At Once. While Curtis would be the eventual winner, nabbing her first win off of her sole nomination, many (including myself) predicted Bassett to take the Oscar. And like many, Bassett also feels like she had a right to win.
Speaking with Town & Country Magazine, Angela Bassett recalled that night in the Dolby Theatre as one of one of surprise, something that was tough to face so early on, as the Supporting categories are typically handed out early on. “I found it interesting. Interesting that I wouldn’t be allowed to be disappointed at an outcome where I thought I was deserving. I love applauding people. But in that moment…” She added, “No, I have put in: put in the time, put in good work over time.

There is nothing more human than expressing disappointment, since so many say it's best not to express it — especially during a competition. Actress Angela Bassett found herself in that position during the 2023 Academy Awards when she was up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Some thought she was the front-runner for the award but, in what some call an upset, Jamie Lee Curtis took home the trophy for her turn in Everything Everywhere All at Once. At the time, many thought Bassett looked visibly upset on camera when she lost, and now the actress is admitting that she was disappointed because she felt she was deserving.
During a new interview for Town & Country, Bassett was asked about her reaction when she didn't win the big award. She admitted that she "found it interesting" that she couldn't express disappointment, and went on to elaborate...

Biopics about famous musicians have been quite popular for some time, as any artist with a passionate fanbase is bound to turn out to a theater to hear their favorite songs performed. Although there are many entertaining music biopics like Rocketmanand Straight Outta Compton that succeed in celebrating groundbreaking changes within the music industry, the involvement of their subjects gives them a rather slanted view on history. While What’s Love Got To Do With It does seek to explore the life of Tina Turnerand her tumultuous relationship with her husband Ike Turner, it dug far deeper into the tension that existed between them and managed to earn both Angela Bassettand Laurence FishburneAcademy Award nominations for their work. Due to the film’s unflinching depiction of domestic abuse, Roger Ebert called What’s Love Got To Do With It “a story of pain and courage, uncommonly honest and unflinching.”...

Cynthia Erivo made Oscar history on Thursday morning with her Best Actress bid for Wicked. She is now only the second Black female performer to receive multiple bids in this category, after Viola Davis.
Erivo plays Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West, in director Jon M. Chu‘s big-budget adaptation of the beloved Broadway stage musical. Wicked actually marks her second Best Actress mention after Harriet (2019), for which she also earned a Best Song bid for “Stand Up” (cowritten with Joshuah Brian Campbell). Wicked received 10 Oscar nominations this year, including for Erivo’s supporting co-star Ariana Grande.
Davis was the first to accomplish such a feat, thanks to her double Best Actress Oscar bids for The Help (2011) and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2020). While she lost both of those contests, she did win the Best Supporting Actress prize for Fences (2016); she also had a prior bid in that...
