Bruce Glover, Diamonds Are Forever henchman and Crispin’s dad, has passed away
Image
Bruce Glover, who notably played a villain in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever and had small roles in several classics of the ‘70s, has passed away. He was 92.

The news of Bruce Glover’s passing was shared on social media by son Crispin, who posted numerous photos – ranging from publicity shots to family photos – all bearing the caption: “Bruce Herbert Glover May 2, 1932 – March 12, 2025”.

While Bruce Glover was featured in dozens of movies, his most famous role was as one of the henchman (along with Putter Smith’s Mr. Kidd) to Blofeld in Diamonds Are Forever. He and Smith stole nearly every scene they were in, providing deadly ends to their targets (from scorpions to time bombs) and exchanging banter that made them some of the most interesting lower-tier baddies in the entire franchise.

Bruce Glover, Iconic Character Actor and James Bond Villain, Dead at 92

Bruce Glover, whose acting spanned seven decades, has died. Glover was a prominent character actor best known for playing offbeat villains, even menacing James Bond in 1971's Diamonds Are Forever. Glover’s death was announced by his son and fellow actor Crispin Glover on Instagram. Glover died on March 12, 2025; he was 92.

Glover was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 2, 1932. His introduction to show business was wearing a gorilla suit in a variety show act with an exotic dancer. After serving in the US Army in the 1950s, he began his acting career on the stage, and eventually made a name for himself on television, guesting on series like Car 54, Where Are You?, Perry Mason, and Mission: Impossible. His off-kilter look and voice often led to him being cast as villains. He made his big-screen debut in an uncredited role in the1959 musical Never Steal Anything Small, with James Cagney, and...

The Correct Order To Watch The Hatchet Movies
Image
Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.

Victor Crowley was played by stuntman Kane Hodder, perhaps best known for playing the masked killer Jason Voorhees in "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood,...

The Piper trailer: horror film starring Julian Sands will be released in March
Image
Back in June of 2021, it was announced that Julian Sands, best known around here for playing the Warlock in the 1989 horror film fittingly titled Warlock and then coming back for the sequel Warlock: The Armageddon, had signed on to star in a new genre project called The Piper, which puts a horrific twist on the legend of the Pied Piper. Sadly, it was only seven months later that we heard Sands had gone missing while hiking on California’s Mount Baldy. Six months later, his body was found. He did get to work on The Piper before he passed away, though, and the film is now ready to make its way out into the world. It’s set to receive a theatrical and digital/on demand release on March 8th, and with that date exactly one month away a trailer has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.

‘Warlock III: The End of Innocence’ – Revisiting the Final Film in the ‘Warlock’ Trilogy
Image
Younger readers may not be aware of this, but there was a time before the streaming wars when a movie could still be profitable without having a successful run at the box office. In fact, the direct-to-video market used to be so huge that it was worth producing smaller projects specifically for video and DVD, especially when a wide theatrical release might result in them losing money. Unfortunately, the reduced budgets often resulted in cheap cash-grabs when it came to franchises, with most movie sequels decreasing in quality the further they strayed from their cinema screen origins.

However, there were exceptions to this trend, as the lowered expectations also meant that creative risks could sometimes be taken with existing properties – with filmmakers being allowed to innovate instead of simply rehashing what came before. One example of these creative outliers is the Warlock series, as the third movie is actually a...

Witches vs. Druids – Revisiting ‘Warlock: The Armageddon’
Image
Back in 2021, I started a recurring column here on Bloody Disgusting called The Silver Lining, where I’d try to find the good parts of movies that were generally considered “bad.” Not only did I have a lot of fun looking back on less-appreciated films while finding hidden nuggets of entertainment where there should only have been schlock, but these articles also taught me to take in the good with the bad when watching genre pictures that at least tried to do something different.

I was reminded of this lesson while revisiting Warlock: The Armageddon this past week, as I believe this strange little film contains both the best and the worst moments of the Warlock franchise in an unexpected blend of sheer creative madness and aggressively bland characters. That’s why I’d like to invite you to join us on our second foray into the Warlock series retrospective...

‘Waxwork’ and ‘Hellraiser III’ Director Anthony Hickox Has Passed Away
Mihaly 'Michu' Meszaros in Waxwork (1988)
Bloody Disgusting has learned the sad news this week that Waxwork (1988) director Anthony Hickox, who was prolific in the ’80s and ’90s, has passed away at the age of 64 years old.

Deadline reports, “Hickox had spent his recent years in Romania, where police found him dead last week at his house in Bucharest after friends had reported not seeing him for some time, according to close friend and InterTalent Rights Group CEO Jonathan Shalit.”

In addition to Waxwork, a favorite among the staff here at Bloody Disgusting, Anthony Hickox also directed the film’s only sequel, Waxwork II: Lost in Time (1992).

Hickox also directed a slew of other horror movies around the same time, including the Bruce Campbell-starring Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat (1989), Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992), and Warlock: The Armageddon (1993), as well as the 1990s films Full Eclipse (1993), Payback (1995), Invasion of Privacy (1996), and Storm Catcher (1999).

Anthony Hickox Dies: Director Of Horror Films ‘Waxwork’ & ‘Hellraiser III’ Was 64
Image
Anthony Hickox, the British director known for horrors such as Waxwork and Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, has died aged 64.

Hickox had spent his recent years in Romania, where police found him dead last week at his house in Bucharest after friends had reported not seeing him for some time, according to close friend and InterTalent Rights Group CEO Jonathan Shalit.

Best known for his work in the comedy-horror genre, Hickox’s best known work was 1988’s Waxwork, which starred the likes of Zach Gilligan, Deborah Foreman and Michelle Johnson and was inspired by a 1920s German silent film. It is claimed Hickox wrote the script for Waxwork after driving into the back of Staffan Ahrenberg’s car and persuading the producer to let him pay for the damage by writing the script for just $3,000.

Hickox also directed a sequel and films such as Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat and Warlock: The Armageddon.

Waxwork, Hellraiser III director Anthony Hickox has died at 64

Sad news today as it’s been reported that genre director Anthony Hickox recently died at the age of 64. The under-appreciated director is best known for helming Waxwork, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, Warlock: The Armageddon, and more.

Filmmaking was in Anthony Hickox’s blood from day one. He was born to Douglas Hickox, who directed Theatre of Blood and Zulu Dawn, and Anne V. Coates, the Oscar-winning editor of Lawrence of Arabia. After initially working as a club promoter in London, Hickox moved to Los Angeles to become a writer and director. His first feature film was Waxwork, quickly followed by Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat. He went on to helm Waxwork II: Lost in Time, Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, Full Eclipse, Warlock: The Armageddon, and more.

Arachnophobia & Warlock Star Julian Sands Found Dead After 5-Month Search
Image
The search for Arachnophobia and Warlock star Julian Sands has come to a tragic end. The English actor went missing on January 13 while hiking in the Mount Baldy region in the San Gabriel Mountains. After eight different search and rescue missions took place in the following months, human remains were discovered in the area on June 27.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, those remains have now been positively identified as Sands. The late actor would have been 65 years old, as the hike began fewer than two weeks after his birthday. The exact nature of his death is still being investigated by the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department.

The Onscreen Legacy Julian Sands Leaves Behind

An English actor, Sands was largely known in the U.S. as something of a character actor. Perhaps his most notable role in a Hollywood production was playing the notorious titular son of Satan in 1989's Warlock, in...

Julian Sands dead: authorities confirm identity of body found near hiking site
Image
The worst has been confirmed by THR: Julian Sands, the unforgettable star of the horror classic Warlock, is dead. The actor vanished in January when hiking in the Mount Baldy wilderness outside of L.A. Recently, hikers found a body, and, as expected, its identity was confirmed as Sands. It’s a sad but not unexpected end for one of the most high-profile missing persons cases in recent years, and hopefully, his remains being identified will give his family peace. It sounds like a tragic accident, with Sands being a renowned outdoorsman and avid hiker. It took this long to find and identify him because, until recently, the area suffered the effects of unusually severe weather.

Of course, Sands is an icon to the horror community thanks to his star role in Warlock and its sequel, Warlock: The Armageddon. He also had roles in many other movies, with him initially...

Blu-ray Review: Warlock Collection [Vestron Video Collector’s Series]
Horror was in a weird place in the early 1990s. Most of the big franchises of the ’80s had more or less run their course, and in their place were a handful of new “icons” that would be turned into franchises whether it was warranted or not: the Child’s Play movies continued to be a growing concern, as did Candyman and Hellraiser and Leprechaun. One attempt to launch a new franchise that never quite took was 1991’s Warlock, which inspired two sequels of varying quality before calling it quits. All three films are now gathered together on Blu-ray for the first time as part of the Warlock Collection, the latest in the Vestron Video Collector’s Series from Lionsgate.

The original Warlock is genuinely something special—maybe not a new classic, but certainly a really good version of what it is. It’s a film with an impressive...

'Gremlins' Star Zach Galligan on Auditioning for Spielberg, Malfunctioning Mogwais, and 'Gremlins 2' Getting Its Due
The mogwais are nearing middle age.

That's right, Steven Spielberg's magnificent horror comedy "Gremlins," about a bunch of cuddly creatures that turn into scaly monsters and overtake a small, Rockwellian town, is turning 30 this summer. And to celebrate, Warner Bros has a bunch of exciting things planned. The first of which has already happened: you can now own the movie digitally, for the first time ever (please, take the time to luxuriate in a wonderful clip from the movie, located below). Later this year, too, we will be getting a deluxe, 30th anniversary Blu-ray, complete with two brand-new featurettes featuring Steven Spielberg, alongside other creative principles (like director Joe Dante) and many members of the cast and crew.

We were lucky enough to chat with Zach Galligan, who played Billy Peltzer, the initial owner of Gizmo, the mogwai that inadvertently breeds the gremlin menace. Galligan has become something of a cult icon himself,...

Mihaly 'Michu' Meszaros in Waxwork (1988)
Exclusive: Zach Galligan Reflects on 'Waxwork' 1 & 2
Mihaly 'Michu' Meszaros in Waxwork (1988)
While I know most tend to associate actor Zach Galligan with the movie 'Gremlins,' for me growing up I was always a bigger fan of his portrayal of Mark in the 'Waxwork' movies. After all, he got to fight all the classic Universal monsters, go up against the Waxwork proprietor played by the great David Warner and was friends (and potentially more?) with mega-babes Michelle Johnson (China) and Deborah Foreman (Sarah). I've always had a great deal of affection for the first 'Waxwork' because not only is it a perfect blend of horror and comedy, but because it was also an all out monster mash that didn't skimp out on the monsters or the gore. Writer/director Anthony Hickox (who also later helmed 'Hellraiser III: Hell On Earth,' 'Warlock: Armageddon,' and 'Sundown: A Vampire In Retreat') teamed up once more with...

As a second unit director, Ellis worked on Clear and Present Danger, Waterworld, Sphere, Deep Blue Sea, The Perfect Storm, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Most recently, Ellis was directing the second unit on R.I.P.D. as well as prepping his next film, Kite.

Ellis got his start in Hollywood in the 1970s as a stunt man and later, stunt coordinator, with roles in such projects as Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Scarface, Misery, The Addams Family, and Warlock: The Armageddon.

Ellis died suddenly in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was working on his next film,...

Retro review: Waxwork (1988)
The 1988 Anthony Hicktox (Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth, Warlock: The Armageddon) classic Waxwork, revolves around a small suburban town, where a brand new wax museum has opened up shop. A group of college kids decide to attend a private midnight viewing, offered to them by the museums bizarre owner. After two of them mysteriously disappear, their friends, Mark played by Zach Galligan (Gremlins) and Sarah played by Deborah Foreman (Valley Girl) set out to find out what has happened.

Unlike other wax museums, this one was created for the sole purpose of capturing souls. Each of the exhibits inside represents one of eighteen of the most evil beings to ever exist, featuring an artifact that was owned by each of the sinister individuals. Those unfortunate enough to cross their rope dividers find themselves sucked into the world of whomever the exhibit represents, if they die while inside their soul is captured.

Phantom of the Mall: Foy's Revenge
If you're reading this right now, then you either successfully survived Black Friday unscathed or had the good enough sense to not brave the crazed thralls storming the mall in search of doorbuster savings. Speaking of shopping mall psychopaths, have you ever seen the Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge? Whether you have or you haven't, you can now listen to myself and the film's title star reminisce about this campy 1989 slasher flick.

If you've never heard of the website Natsukashi and consider yourself a film geek (especially if you're a child of the 80's), then now is the time to correct that mistake. The word "natsukashi" is a Japanese adjective which stands for the state of "feeling nostalgic" or "fond/sweet memory". The Natsukashi site is all about revisiting movies from one's youth (or at least a film you haven't seen in a good long time) to see how...

From the Files of Fangoria: Warlock: The Armageddon
From the Files of Fangoria is a regular feature with observations on content discovered during the process of digitally archiving 30 years of press releases and photos received by Fangoria and previously kept in storage.

When it comes to a series one has to ask which Warlock film is the best file to peruse. Warlock III sounds like the obvious choice; therefore it would just be too easy. I could go with the original, but it just doesn’t have the camp appeal of 1993’s Warlock: The Armageddon. The file includes extremely detailed production notes dating the story back to 1641, which I believe was 348 years before the first film was released.
