Léon: The Professionalstar Gary Oldman reveals that his iconic "Everyone!" line delivery was never intended to make the final cut of the movie. Released in 1994, director Luc Besson's action thriller stars Jean Reno as Léon, an assassin who takes the 12-year-old Mathilda (Natalie Portman) under his wing after her family is murdered. Oldman plays Léon: The Professional's main villain, Stansfield, a corrupt and violent DEA agent. One of the most iconic lines of Oldman's career comes when he demands that a subordinate bring him "everyone" as backup before he then repeats the word in an exaggerated yell.
During a recent interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Oldman reveals that his shouting delivery of the word "everyone" was actually intended as a joke for Besson. The actor recalls wanting to make the director laugh on one particular take, but then the moment ended up in the final cut of the movie.

It is a testament to his acting ability that it was years before I realized that Gary Oldman is British. With an ability to nail accents, the dedication to drastically change his appearance and the talent to convey the full spectrum of emotions, Oldman is one of the most eclectic and underrated actors of our time.
Born March 21, 1958, in London, Oldman began his acting career on the British stage in 1979, and made his film debut in "Remembrance" in 1982. In 1984, he reluctantly accepted the role of punk rocker Sid Vicious in "Sid and Nancy," a performance which garnered him critical acclaim and launched a diverse and successful career that has spanned almost four decades, and includes everything from small indie films to blockbuster franchises.

Except for John Williams, it's hard for a film composer to reach household name status, but it's safe to proclaim that Hans Zimmerhas successfully done so. After being a steady film composer in the 1980s and 1990s, working on films from a variety of genres, including Rain Man, True Romance, The Lion King, The Thin Red Line, and Gladiator, Zimmer ostensibly became the soundtrack for the archetypal modern blockbusters thanks to his work on most of Christopher Nolan's films, notably The Dark Knight trilogy, and revolutionizing the art of film scores for Denis Villeneuve's Duneseries. Someone of his caliber could have elevated the longest-running franchise of the last 20 years — the Marvel Cinematic Universe — into something more epic, but he has his eyes set elsewhere. To be completely honest, I don't blame him, as even he has outshined the scope of the MCU.

German composer Hans Zimmer began his career playing keyboards for various New Wave bands around Europe. He played with Krakatoa in his native Germany, with The Buggles (of "Video Killed the Radio Star" fame) in England, with Krisma in Italy, and with Mecano in Spain. In the early '80s, he started to produce pop singles as well, overseeing "History of the World, Part 1" for the punk band The Damned. About the same time, he started to write commercial jingles and TV theme tunes, effectively giving him an "in" into film-scoring work. His first film as a composer was 1982's "Moonlighting," one of Jerzy Skolimowski's movies.
For there, Zimmer's output increased exponentially, and he brought his unique, sweeping sensibilities (but with a pinch of New Wave) to over 20 features. He scored Stephen Frears' "My Beautiful Laundrette," (soon to be remade) and Bernard Rose's underrated "Paperhouse." In 1988, he...

Several years ago, Ethan Hawke said something interesting in an interview with Marc Maron. He admitted to having a lot of anxiety when he was cast in Training Day because he said that whenever he watched movies with Denzel Washington, he felt like his co-stars were blown out of the water by him. One exception that Hawke mentioned is Gene Hackman, who said the two played brilliantly off of each other in Tony Scott’s Crimson Tide, partly due to the fact that they were playing adversaries. Indeed, such was the power of Gene Hackman, who tragically passed away this week. While his career is loaded with classics, including The French Connection, The Conversation, The Royal Tenenbaums and so many more, one of his biggest box office hits was Crimson Tide, a movie that’s long overdue for a deep dive here on JoBlo!

She won hearts with True Romance – and an Oscar for Boyhood. The actor reflects on her TV show Severance, political chaos in the US and why human beings are a disaster
If escaping the world by running for the hills looks increasingly attractive to many of us – perhaps living on a commune – Patricia Arquette feels like that too. Head to the mountains, she says. “Plant seeds and farm.” But maybe not the commune part – she lived in one as a child and it wasn’t always utopian. If our conversation is more dystopian than usual, it’s probably because we’re talking about Severance, the hit Apple TV+ show now in its second season. In the first series, we were introduced to Lumon Industries, where some workers, tasked with doing something unknown but probably malevolent with data, were willingly “severed”; their work selves detached from their outside selves, with no memory between the two.

Long before Matthew Modine set foot in the Upside Down in Stranger Things, he established himself as a talented actor. Modine first gained recognition in the 1980s, starring in films like Birdy and Vision Quest. At the same time, Val Kilmer (a Juilliard-trained actor who had previously worked on stage) was trying to make it in Hollywood, appearing in films like Top Secret!, Real Genius, and Top Gun. Their paths crossed in a surprisingly intense confrontation, which Modine recently recounted on the Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast.
At the time, Modine was having breakfast with David Alan Greer, after the two had won an award at the Venice Film Festival for Robert Altman's Streamers.
"There was a fella sitting about 10 feet from me and he was saying obscenities. It was clearly directed at me. I told David, who had his back to this fella, I said, 'either that guy's...

Love is like a hammock—sometimes it’s relaxing, sometimes it’s a little too tight, but when it’s right, you just want to stay there forever. When you’re in love, your world is painted in technicolor, and when you’re out of love, it’s just black and white. That being said, some relationships give you warm fuzzies, while others leave you shaking off the chill.
Shakespeare himself, in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, put it perfectly: “The course of true love never did run smooth.” His words capture the turbulence of love—the unpredictability, the highs and lows, the bliss and the agony. And in the case of Charli Xcx, the British pop sensation known for her unapologetic sound and soul-baring lyrics, the journey through love is anything but ordinary.

He might be a master of frightening readers to ridiculous lengths, but there's more to author Stephen King than scares, psychotic clowns, and kids that shine. For one, his favorite film isn't even a horror: the writer of books like "The Shining," and Goodreads' highly-rated entry, "The Stand," deemed William Friedkin's "Sorcerer" his number-one watch. King is fond of praising movies online. In a list submitted to Entertainment Weekly in 2003, the author put together an interesting playlist of films that had caught his eye that year, including Tony Scott's "The Taking of Pelham 123." A remake of the 1974 film starring Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw, Scott's take starred Denzel Washington as an Mta dispatcher who faced off against John Travolta as the leader of a gang of criminals who holding hostages on a subway train.

Patricia Arquette recently spoke about starring in the late David Lynch's polarizing and surreal 1997 film, Lost Highway, as both Renee Madison and Alice Wakefield. In the interview with IndieWire, she reflected on the dual roles, filming with Lynch (who very recently passed away), and appearing nude.
"That was the hardest movie for me to ever make because I’ve always been very shy," Arquette said. "Especially sexually. I think I probably had a lot of trauma. For many years, I would even take baths in the dark, alone with just a candle."
In the past, she said filming the nude scenes were "terrifying," especially as the crew said "crude" things. She continued:
"For me, making Lost Highway was one of the bravest things I could have done. I was so sick of carrying this burden of terror, this fear. That was a very powerful movie for me to make.

After nearly three years, “Severance”, one of 2022’s most celebrated shows, is finally returning. The critically acclaimed series, which explores the sci-fi extremes of work-life balance, begins its ten-episode second season on January 17. Patricia Arquette, who earned an Emmy nomination for her role as the calculating Harmony Cobel, returns to play the office manager who stalks her employees outside of the company. As the air date approaches, Arquette is excited, but reluctant to open up too much about what lies in store. “I don’t really carry characters with me, or I try very hard not to, but ‘Severance’ is different,” she told IndieWire.
“Whenever people ask me about playing Harmony Cobel or ‘Severance,’ this little thing comes into my mind and I just want to lie to them,” she said with a wry smile. “So, whatever I say, I wouldn’t count on it.”

Ridley Scott clarifies how Brad Pitt was cast in Thelma & Louise, sharing a different account than star Geena Davis. Released in 1991, the road-trip crime drama remains one of Scott's most-loved films, with a story that follows the two titular best friends, played by Davis and Susan Sarandon, respectively, as they run from the authorities. Pitt memorably appears briefly in Thelma & Louise as J.D., an attractive drifter, a casting that Davis has taken some credit for in the past. Davis has revealed that she read with four male actors in total, and that she enthusiastically chose Pitt.
In a recent interview with GQ, Scott addresses Pitt's casting in Thelma & Louise, revealing that parts of Davis' account are accurate. When it came to the final decision regarding Pitt's casting, however, the director reveals that he had already chosen him prior to Davis voicing her opinion. Check out Scott's comments...

Tramell Tillman and Patricia Arquette are back to their cryptic shenanigans in Severance Season 2. Did Quentin Tarantino disown Natural Born Killers? (Photo Credit – Facebook/Prime Video)
Quentin Tarantino, one of the biggest names behind the camera in all of Hollywood, is as famous for his directorial masterpieces like Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds as for movies that never saw the light of day as originally envisioned. Recently, Tarantino’s proposed final hurrah, The Movie Critic, joined the caliber of projects that never materialized.
In his formative years, the Reservoir Dogs director had to settle for selling his screenplays to studios and other directors, such as True Romance, which Tony Scott directed. However, this Christian Slater–Patricia Arquette movie — also featuring future Tarantino collaborator Brad Pitt — isn’t even the filmmaker’s most popular runaway couple tale; an honor that belongs to Natural Born Killers, albeit for all the wrong reasons, which even led Tarantino, who originally conceived it, to disown the movie.

“Dexter: Original Sin” brings fans back to the serial killer they all know and (perhaps worth examining) love, but he’s wearing a different face this time around.
No, not literally. Dexter Morgan isn’t that kind of psychopath. He just has urges to kill people, and in the prequel series now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime (premiering on-air on Showtime this Sunday), we see how he learns to deal with those urges, and implement the Code that his father creates for him to do it somewhat safely.
There are plenty of characters you’ll recognize in the series, but all new faces, so let’s run them down, shall we?

Since “Dexter: Original Sin” centers on Dexter Morgan as a teen, Patrick Gibson plays the serial killer this time around. You’ll recognize him from Netflix’s “The Oa” or maybe “Shadow and Bone.

No filmmaker ever caught more flack for unabashedly being the kind of filmmaker he wanted to be than Tony Scott. The critical brickbats hit hard in 1983 with his first film, "The Hunger," and there was rarely ever letup. He was the style-over-substance Antichrist born of commercials and music videos. According to Metacritic, only four of his 16 films were positively reviewed during their initial theatrical release, all begrudgingly so. The TV Guide review of "Crimson Tide" backhand-praises Scott as "Hollywood's slickest hack." The man was anything but beloved.

Beyond Marvel and DC's cinematic universes, legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has also built one of his own. From the moment Reservoir Dogs first hit the big screen, it's been readily apparent that Tarantino wears his cinematic influences on his sleeve. Ever since, fans have scoured his films for references and Easter Eggs to other classic or contemporary movies, but hiding in plain sight was something even more interesting: a shared cinematic universe.

There are various elements found in all of Quentin Tarantino's movies that make them stand out, most notably the graphic violence in them, but one theory blames this on one of Tarantino’s most successful works. Quentin Tarantino’s career as a filmmaker began in 1992 with the crime movie Reservoir Dogs, through which he introduced the world to his peculiar narrative and visual style. Although Reservoir Dogs made his name known, it was Pulp Fiction two years later which made Tarantino a widely known and praised name.
Since then, Tarantino has explored a variety of genres in his movies, always with his trademark style of graphic violence and generous amounts of blood. Tarantino always finds a way to fit graphic violence in his movies, whether it's a martial arts movie like Kill Bill, a western like Django Unchained, or an alternate look at the 1960s like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Although Ridley Scott could have directed Top Guns sequel, the legendary director was right to turn down Top Gun: Maverick. By Top Gun: Mavericks ending, it was tough for viewers to remember just how long the gap between the original movie and its sequel was. The follow-up recaptured the tone of the original cult classic so successfully that it was like Maverick had never left, and viewers left the theater ready for Top Gun 3s story. However, the production of the sequel was a long, difficult process behind the scenes, and Tony Scott's untimely death was one reason for this.

Top Gun: Maverick nearly had a legendary director in the cockpit, but Ridley Scott turned the film down because of his late brother. Tony's directorial credits include Beverly Hills Cop II, Crimson Tide, True Romance, and the original Top Gun. The Wolf of Wallstreet launched her career into the stratosphere in 2013, followed by her turn as Harley Quinn in 2016's Suicide Squad, 2020's Birds of Prey, and 2021's The Suicide Squad, and perhaps most notably, as the eponymous iconic doll in the 2023 billion-dollar blockbuster Barbie.
In 2019, Robbie also worked with acclaimed multihyphenate Quentin Tarantino on Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, playing a fictionalized version of Sharon Tate. In the lead-up to that film's theatrical release, Robbie spoke to MTV News' Josh Horowitz and was asked what her favorite movie of all time was. As it turns out, it was another Tarantino project, though not one most would immediately associate with the Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill creator.

Quentin Tarantino's 10-movie filmography has become one of Hollywood's most enduring modern legends, and Ridley Scott thinks this self-imposed retirement plan is pure "bullsh*t."
Tarantino is currently hard at work on his 10th (and reportedly final) movie. The project was initially announced as The Movie Critic, and would have starred Brad Pitt. However, it was recently confirmed that Tarantino is re-working the idea, and the new project is once again a complete mystery. While Tarantino seems set on only directing 10 films, one Hollywood legend who isn't so certain is Ridley Scott, who will apparently outlive us all and make movies until the day he dies.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter to promote Gladiator II, Scott, who's become increasingly active in his later years was asked about Tarantino's mythical plan. "I dont believe it," was Scott's blunt and honest response. The director is known for tackling questions head on...

Ridley Scott is 87 years old and has achieved everything a director could achieve in Hollywood (except winning a Best Director Oscar), so he’s free to give an entertaining, unfiltered interview. In a new sit-down with The Hollywood Reporter, Scott talked about planning to direct until the day he dies, meeting Russell Crowe before casting him in “Gladiator”, and people sticking to what they’re good at.
But his best quote is about Quentin Tarantino, who has been saying since “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood” that his next film will be his last. Tarantino is only 61, and he says he’s going to retire after his tenth film, while Scott is speeding up his pace, putting out four films in the past three years, all of which were large-scale productions. Asked what he thinks about Tarantino’s vow, Scott said he doesn’t think Tarantino will quit.

The Sopranos is frequently remembered by TV fans as being one of the greatest crime shows ever. The series delved into the life of an angsty mobster Tony Soprano and his day-to-day struggle as he reluctantly agreed to go to therapy.
James Gandolfini transitioned from a movie star to featuring on the small screen, but it was not an easy road to success. The actor had to face several inconveniences and struggled a lot during the filming period. One interview revealed that he wanted to quit the hit show daily until he managed to find the strength to appear in front of the camera again.
Commit, Quit, Reappear: The repeated cycle
Tony Soprano became a legendary character due to his convoluted personality and relatable life struggles. Few fans, however, are aware of the actor’s rocky journey when he started The Sopranos and struggled under the weight of the fame.

Throughout her already prolific career, producer/actor Margot Robbie has proven herself to have a taste that's as discerning as it is eclectic. Most actors attempt to demonstrate their ability to take on as large of a range of projects as possible, yet the demands of the business and marketing sides of the film industry usually see them typecast in some form, usually in a genre if not a specific type of role. This is why Robbie's career is worth pointing out for how diverse it is; she's been able to find a niche for herself that has allowed her to easily move between action films, dramas, period pieces like "Mary Queen Of Scots," comedies, genre flicks, and prestige pics, all while growing her A-list status and not being relegated to either an awards-bait character actor or a paycheck-bait comic book movie star. As a producer, she's demonstrated a steady...

Apple TV+ brought a new sci-fi psychological thriller show, Severance in 2022 which became a smash hit. The show featured a fictional corporation Lumon Industries where an employee Mark Scout (portrayed by Adam Scott) undergoes a shady memory transition.
The dystopian series created by Dan Erickson gained popularity because of its peculiar plot and stellar cast which included Patricia Arquette. Among news of the show’s new season fans should look at what The Act actress revealed earlier about her character. Harmony Cobel is a hard character to portray and Arquette thinks so too.

Severance explored the experiences of Mark Scout as he tried to unravel the dark truth about his company, Lumon Industries. The character agreed to a sketchy severance program where his work memories were separated from his non-work ones in a horrifyingly permanent procedure.

Over the years, Brad Pitt has played many eccentric characters like Fight Club’s Tyler Durden and The Lost City’s Jack Trainer. However, out of all his roles, there was one that seemed to hit a little too close to home. After all, the character he played bore a striking resemblance to his own life and even mirrored aspects that led to his divorce from Angelina Jolie.

Over the years, Quentin Tarantino has built quite a reputation for being an amazing filmmaker, screenwriter, and even actor. Although he will go down in history for his work on films like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, and more, those movies were not what should be considered his original cult classic hit. In fact, before Tarantino became a household name with his work, his passion for storytelling and a knack for writing sharp, gritty dialogue paved the way to success.

Over the years, many fans have realized that the genesis of his career began with a story he sold to fund his debut film, Reservoir Dogs. This original cult hit was True Romance, a script that Tarantino wrote and sold, which became a stepping stone that enabled him to make his directorial debut.

The 90s was a great time for adaptations. Jurassic Park is the gold standard, of course, but there was so much more. That book’s author, Michael Crichton, also had Sphere and Congo get greenlit and released while we would see non-horror output like Forrest Gump and Shawshank Redemption, which account for the greatest film of all time… and Forrest Gump. On the horror side we would have Silence of the Lambs, the wonderful It TV miniseries, Exorcist III, and a fun little monster movie throwback called The Relic. At the time, I just thought it was a cool creature feature designed specifically for 12-year-olds like me but looking back all these years later I found out it was an adaptation of a book by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child in what would be the first of 22 separate stories for one of the chief protagonists. That’s all well and...

While he is currently riding high tides of fame for his tremendous contribution to the Western genre, Kevin Costner is also incredibly famous for starring in some of the best action thrillers of all time. One of these – although critics would argue its being even considered anything close to good – was his 1990 thriller-action by Tony Scott, Revenge.

Though it was met with mixed reviews from both fans and critics and may not be regarded as one of Costner’s best pieces to date – except by his dedicated fanbase – the film felt like a darker version of the 1986 masterpiece Top Gun nonetheless. That’s not all; it even went ahead to inspire what is regarded as Quentin Tarantino’s best movie: 1993’s crime-romance True Romance.

Quentin Tarantino may be one of the finest filmmakers in the world, but he has built up quite the reputation over the years as a contentious man. He's nursed grudges against actors, executives, and film critics; he even slapped producer Don Murphy during a run-in at a West Hollywood restaurant. That said, I know lots of people who've worked with Tarantino, and every single one would happily work with him again. He can be intense and exacting to an exhausting degree, but at the end of the day he loves making movies and, according to those I know who've collaborated with him, he wants everyone on his sets to love the experience as much as he does.
I do, however, think he had a brat period, and I think it switched on and off between his Cannes coronation in 1994 with "Pulp Fiction" and the lead-up to the making of "Kill Bill.

He was first revisited with a Showtime original series, Dexter: New Blood, in 2021. If the original series ending didn’t satisfy, Dexter: New Blood proved equally as divisive. Yet, still, we tune in.

Quentin Tarantino's early '90s life was full of drama, from video store clerk to legendary director. Tarantino wrote the Natural Born Killers script before his screenwriting work hit big screens. The clash of egos between Tarantino and Oliver Stone led to script revisions and resentment.
Quentin Tarantino's life in the early '90s could one day be the subject of a film, so dramatic were the events that brought him from video store clerk obscurity to a legendary film career. From around 1990, Tarantino was drafting scripts for Reservoir Dogs, under the tutelage of producer Lawrence Bender, True Romance, which would eventually be directed by Tony Scott, and Natural Born Killers. This was all while working at the Video Archives in Manhattan Beach, California, where Tarantino became a local pillar for his movie recommendations.
Tarantino had actually been an early admirer of Oliver Stone even obscure films like The Hand with Michael Caine.
