Le venin de la vengeance

"Rapture" tells of a software "composer" (Ontkean) who, for reasons unknown, becomes consumed with obsession over an old school friend (Allen) in middle age. Supposed to be a taught thriller/psychodrama, "Rapture" herniates early on and fizzles with two dimensional characters, a flat screenplay, no atmospherics, and a simple-minded script. Not worth the time. Pass on "Rapture" 1993. (D)

Rapture is a tale of early 1990s obsession in a low-budget style. The main character does not do a very good job of playing a psychotically obsessed madman. There was a flurry of these types of TV movies in the late 80s-early 90s. It could best be described as a blend of Hider in the House, The Stepfather, Fear, and Unlawful Entry. I am not sure if they could have made it any more predictable than it is.

Jeff Lisker has made it big. Creator of a world class computer program called "Rapture", he is sitting on top of the world. When he is called back to his home town for his father's funeral, Jeff decides that he will attend his high school reunion. He hopes to rekindle the romance with his high school sweetheart, Georgianne. Georgianne however is happily married with a teenaged daughter and is only interested in his friendship. When her husband is found murdered, Jeff sees it as the opportunity he's been waiting for. He ingratiates himself-making him indispensible to Georgianne in her period of mourning. However, Georgianne's daughter suspects that Jeff was her father's murderer and will risk her own life in order to discover the truth.
