We’re sad to report that Oscar-winning makeup artist Greg Cannom, whose career spans over four decades as a prosthetics and SFX master, has passed away.
Fellow SFX legend Rick Baker shared a touching tribute on Instagram, honoring Cannom’s early career start working alongside him on films like The Incredible Melting Man and It Lives Again.

On its massive-eyed face, “The Masked Singer” may seem like just a goofy reality competition series, meant for little more than an hour of escapism. And really, it is that. Fox’s singing contest is predicated on sticking various calibers of famous people in insane, occasionally nightmare-fueling costumes, having them perform for a live audience, and letting the audience guess who the voice belongs to.
It’s simple and merry, if occasionally a little obvious (just about everyone clocked Vanessa Hudgens and Amber Riley immediately). But, as it wraps up its 13th season this week, “The Masked Singer” has also become something else entirely, according to those who have competed on it — a surprisingly therapeutic experience.
The show originated in South Korea in 2015, titled “King of Mask Singer.” In 2017, executive producer Craig Plestis, a veteran in reality TV and now the President and CEO of Smart Dog Media, watched an...

A trip down Hollywood memory lane will always have us feeling all the feels, especially if it involves two of the biggest names the industry has had to offer – Tom Cruise and Robin Williams. Say whatever you may, you cannot deny that these actors redefined what it meant to be a star. While Robin Williams is no longer among us, because the world is just unfair that way, we cannot help but reminisce about the good times when he gave us performances like that in Dead Poets Society.
Recently, a video has been making the rounds on the Internet where we can see Tom Cruise crashing Robin Williams’ moment. What follows is a heartwarming exchange between the two, a wholesome reminder that Tinseltown shines brighter when there is genuine camaraderie in the mix.

Some say there's a thin line separating good from evil. Human morality and depravity can exist within a single person, as oftentimes monstrous people will justify their wickedness by calling it good. Sorry to get super deep and heavy on you here, but that is just how it goes. All of it to say, while good and evil are concrete and defined philosophical precepts, how they play out is oftentimes, well, super messy.
Perhaps that is why some of the best big screen villains have been played by "good guy" actors. As a moviegoer, there's only one thing more painful than watching a villain do horrible things; and that's when that villain is played by a hero. It takes brashness on the part of the director to upset audience sensibilities, and courage on the actor's part to play with their screen image.

The great thing about The Masked Singer is that you never know who will be on the show, and Season 13 included a '90s heartthrob. Earlier this week, the identity of Paparazzo was revealed after the judges asked a key question: had he been on a hit TV show before?
Out of the four judges, only Jenny McCarthy correctly identified Paparazzo as Matthew Lawrence. However, he had given some great clues on the night about his identity, including honoring his longtime girlfriend, TLC's Rozonda Thomas, better known as Chilli, with the song "Unpretty."

Comedy and movie legend Robin Williams brought heart and humanity to every one of his beloved characters, but those qualities didn’t just go away when the camera stopped rolling and it was time to take off the dress.
More than 10 years after Williams’ death by suicide at the age of 63, tales of the preternaturally talented performer’s behind-the-scenes acts of magnanimity continue to come out as his co-stars still take his kindness to heart. As a father himself, Williams had a soft spot for the child actors with whom he worked during his storied career in show business, and his on-screen kids remember him with all the warmth and wisdom that their characters associated with a certain vaguely Scottish nanny.

Matthew Lawrence was one of the children who acted opposite Robin Williams in the now-iconic classic Mrs. Doubtfire. Recently, he shared how the legendary actor became a guide to him on the set.
"I didn't quite realize it at the time, but that moment there on set of Mrs. Doubtfire, that those six to eight months were the biggest learning curve anyone can get when it comes to making movies and being an entertainer," Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly. "And then on top of that, you get a chance to be around Robin Williams and he takes an investment in you, as he does with people. But in particular, he really took an investment with me."
Mrs. Doubtfire is one of Williams's most beloved films. Williams plays Daniel Hillard, a voice actor who disguises himself as a female nanny in order to spend more time with his children in the midst of a divorce.

Chris added in his chat with the Chronicle he now feels powerless to remove it from the 1992 sequel to the hit Christmas film due to Trump now serving his second presidential term, sarcastically saying: “If I cut it, I’ll probably be sent out of the country. I’ll be considered sort of not fit to live in the United States, so I’ll have to go back to Italy or something.

1991’s What About Bob? tells the story of a clingy multiphobe who won’t leave his therapist alone, even when Dr. Leo Marvin goes on vacation with his family. The shrink becomes so crazed, he eventually attempts to murder his patient with explosives.
And somehow things were even more tense behind the scenes.
Famously, stars Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss didn’t get along while making the film. Not in a “he has a bigger trailer than me” way, but more in a “he just threw a glass ashtray at my face” way. That real-life tension no doubt contributed to the pair’s compelling on-screen dynamic, but things would have been far different had director Frank Oz been working with two other actors, which was very nearly the case.

There is no doubt that one’s life can change after they make it in Hollywood. For many, it is their dream to make it in the film industry. Once you land a major role, you can see that you’ve got the world at your feet: red-carpet events, blockbuster deals, and a bank account that most people can only dream about. It is the type of success that can change people’s lives.
But here is the thing–Hollywood is not everyone’s cup of tea. Sure, some stars go on to become fan favorites and build legacies, but it also puts the spotlight on them all the time, a price to pay for fame, which everyone might not enjoy. After getting a taste of the industry, we might see some chase Oscars and box office success, but there are also people who find a calling in something else.

Actor and comedian Damon Wayans has recently claimed that the legendary Hollywood actor Robin Williams had a reputation for stealing jokes from fellow comedians for his stand-up routines, even referring to him as a “notorious thief.”
While Williams was celebrated for his manic energy on stage and his powerful performances in film, Wayans said that within comedy circles, he was known for lifting material from others. Other comedians, including John Witherspoon, have also previously accused Williams of similar practices.

Superfan Robin Williams seemed to have all the credentials to land a part in the Harry Potter series of film adaptations. As an actor, he’d mastered both comedy and drama, winning an Academy Award for his efforts. He was bankable, with several blockbusters under his belt. And he had an in on the first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone — he was buddies with director Chris Columbus, with whom he’d made the hit comedies Mrs. Doubtfire and Bicentennial Man.
“There were a couple of parts I would have wanted to play,” the comedian once admitted. He pitched himself to play Hagrid in the original film, according to Far Out, a part that went to Robbie Coltrane. After missing out on that role, he tried again to land the character of Remus Lupin in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Fans of the series know that part was played by David Thewlis.

A new spy movie starring Michael Fassbender and Pierce Brosnan has pulled off a box office feat. Fassbender is a versatile actor who is perhaps best known for playing the young Magneto in the X-Men prequel movies beginning with 2011's First Class. However, in addition to starring in big-budget genre movies such as the superhero franchise, Assassin's Creed, and Prometheus, he has starred in a variety of dramas such as Shame, A Dangerous Method, Song to Song, Steve Jobs and 12 Years a Slave, the latter two of which earned him Oscar nominations.
While Pierce Brosnan does not have any Oscar nominations under his belt, he does have ample experience in the spy genre, having starred in four James Bond movies between 1995 and 2002. He played the iconic superspy in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, stepping into the role after the two-movie tenure...

It’s hard to overstate what a massive cultural sensation Robin Williamswas in the 1990s, as he had transcended all expectations to become one of the industry’s most reliable actors. Despite getting his start on the sitcom Mork & Mindy and playing sold-out comedy shows around the nation, Williams would prove himself as an actor by starring in family-friendly hits, comedy sensations, and Oscar-nominated dramedies. Williams was the type of star who could be relied upon to take risks, even when the results were as disastrous as Flubber or Jack. Williams lent his talents to the groundbreaking fantasy adventure film Jumanji, a film that may have been too terrifying for children had it not been for his unique comedic charm.

Though it can often feel like she is taken for granted, there are few performers working today who have demonstrated the vast range that Nicole Kidman has. She can be witheringly funny, devastatingly intense and is, most critically, always willing to throw herself into parts that can become tricky balancing acts between the two. In “Holland,” the latest twisty thriller from “Fresh” director Mimi Cave, this is put to the ultimate test.
Not only does Kidman have to flex all these muscles in playing a troubled woman who believes her husband is lying to her, but she must also weather what are some wild escalations that threaten to tear the entire film apart. That it doesn’t is a testament to her committed performance as, when paired with the always reliably engaging camerawork of “Fresh” cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski, we get drawn into the rhythms of her world that is about...

For some, family is everything. If you cross them in any way, there will be hell to pay. It is the nature of things, especially when your family wields power like a sword waiting to slice dissenters in twain. Today, Paramount+ is ready to give Guy Ritchie fans a taste of the filmmaker’s next star-studded series, Mobland, starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosman, and Helen Mirren. Paramount’s MobLand trailer is an explosive look at what happens when the wrong people think they can change the pecking order of a well-oiled criminal empire. Good luck with that, friend.
MobLand debuts on Paramount+ on March 30. It centers around two warring families based in London whose enterprises stretch across the globe and the fiercely loyal “fixer” charged with protecting one of them at all costs.

Image Source: Amazon The 80s. A time of big hair, bigger dreams and a cinematic landscape of teen adventures we’ll never forget. Among those classics, a shining star: 1987’s Adventures in Babysitting. It wasn’t just a movie, it was a rite of passage, a wild ride through a city that felt both dangerous and exhilarating. Remember the thrill? A night of babysitting, a desperate plea for help and suddenly Elisabeth Shue’s character Chris Parker is navigating the urban jungle with three kids in tow. It was the perfect blend of comedy, suspense and that unmistakable 80s energy. The movie’s magic wasn’t just in the story, but in the cast. Elisabeth Shue fresh from The Karate Kid anchored the film with a mix of vulnerability and strength. Keith Coogan, Anthony Rapp and Maia Brewton brought youthful authenticity to the roles. And check out the supporting cast!

Long after 1957's Gunfight at the O.K. With an all-star 1990s cast, the film has since gone on to be considered a hallmark of the Western genre. And its hold on audiences remains strong to this day. Ryan Reynolds is a fan-favorite actor, whose role as a leading actor grossed over $4.4 billion at the worldwide box office. Now synonymous with the role of Deadpool, the actor is easily defined by his cheek-in-tongue, self-deprecating humor.
Over the years, Reynolds made a name for himself with roles that often poked fun at himself, whether in action, comedy, or more. While the actor proved his range in films like 2008's Fireflies in the Garden, 2010's Buried, and 2014's Voices, it was his comedy roles that won the public over and enchanted the critics. However, in a new episode of Brotherly Love Podcast, hosted by actor Matthew Lawrence and his brothers Joey and Andy, Matthew opened up about his experience with Reynolds on the set of 1998's Boltneck, where the Canadian actor reportedly "really upset" the crew.

The most agonizing part of Hollywood is all the near-misses. For every actor who got their big break, there are dozens of actors who almost got it but didn't, often for some arbitrary reason beyond their control. It must be bad enough when this happens for any random movie, let alone one of the biggest movie series of all time. For those aspiring actors who missed out on playing Harry Potter, they had to watch Daniel Radcliffe enjoy what seemed like the time of his life for the next ten years.
The good news is that, if you were good enough to almost get the role of Harry Potter, you were good enough to get other roles. This certainly was the case for at least five of the kids who auditioned for Harry. How do they feel about it, and where are they now? Here's a quick rundown.

Comedy filmmakers love a big lie. From Fargo to Tootsie to Overboard to Mrs. Doubtfire, the genre is packed with stories about a beleaguered protagonist coming up with an outlandish claim that quickly grows beyond their control. So Kinda Pregnant, out today on Netflix, is joining a long tradition: Lainy (Amy Schumer) is mistaken for a pregnant woman, decides to run with it, then makes a new friend and has to keep up the ruse. Schumer, who co-wrote the screenplay, is known for her joke-dense stand-up sets and for sexually frank movies like Trainwreck. The film has been released under Adam Sandler’s banner, Happy Madison, home of such past hits as, well, Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. So when you hear that Sandler and Schumer have teamed up on a comedy about pregnancy, you might get a particular picture of what it’s going to be like. But here...

Let’s be real—Hollywood is all about that inclusive, progressive edge. But sometimes, what seems like an all-in move for diversity ends up looking more like a cheap imitating game. Selena Gomez’s portrayal of Emilia Pérez in the movie of the same name raises a major red flag on this front. It’s the kind of “Hey, we tried” effort that leaves audiences confused, wondering if the intentions were as good as the execution.

During the 1980s and 1990s, Ghanaian artists created vibrant hand-painted movie posters to promote Hollywood blockbuster films. These posters served as promotional material for mobile cinemas that flourished in Ghana between the 1980s and 2000.
These wildly imaginative posters were a testament to a once-thriving industry: the “Ghanaian Mobile Cinema.” This industry emerged in the late 1980s when Ghanaian entrepreneurs established video clubs. Equipped with televisions, VCRs, VHS tapes, and portable generators, these entrepreneurs traveled throughout Ghana, setting up makeshift screening areas in villages with limited or no electricity. These video clubs also operated more permanent theaters in major cities like Accra, Cape Coast, and Kumasi.
The unique aspect of these posters lies in the fact that the artists were given very little information about the films they were illustrating because often times they did not have access to watch the movie being painted. In addition they had little access to...

When it comes to adapting popular video games for both the big and small screens, the results can be hit or miss. These days, things seem to be better than ever thanks to shows like The Last of Us and Twisted Metal, but movies like Borderlands remind us that Hollywood doesn't always get it right. Such was the case with the 2016 film Warcraft, which divided fans and critics upon its release, but now, nine years later, is a streaming hit.

David Fincher is not the type of director one would automatically think of to bring Harry Potter to the big screen, but the director was at one point in talks with Warner Bros. about doing just that. However, his pitch likely would have ended the franchise before it even began. Hot off the critical acclaim of movies like Se7en and Fight Club, the director was one of many high-profile filmmakers Warner Bros. looked to for the launch of the Harry Potter franchise. Other names included Steven Spielberg, M. Night Shyamalan, Ivan Reitman, and Terry Gilliam, to name a few. Fincher is best known for psychological thrillers like Zodiac, Gone Girl, and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so it isn't shocking to find out the director had a very different take on the material.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone director Chris Columbus reveals that there's one scene in the movie that he wasn't happy with, but an executive barred him from fixing it. Released in 2001 and based on the book by J.K. Rowling, the first installment in Warner Bros.' Harry Potter franchise was a massive success, paving the way for seven sequels. The film, which stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, was beloved for how it brought Rowling's Wizarding World to life, but Columbus now reveals there's one effect he wasn't satisfied with.
In a recent interview with THR, Columbus reveals that he was left bothered by the Devil's Snare scene toward the end of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. According to the director, he wanted to enhance the scene in post-production using visual effects, but a powerful executive producer shut the idea down. Columbus shares the anecdote to...

Chris Columbus, the director of family favorites like “Home Alone,” “Mrs. Doubtfire,” and the first two “Harry Potter” movies, is an unlikely producer on one of 2024’s more talked about and grizzly horror films, Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu.”
In fact, Columbus has produced Eggers’ films dating back to “The Witch,” and he’s worked with Eggers to get “Nosferatu” to the screen for over a decade. He may direct a lot of family films, but he’s a film history buff (just check out Columbus’s picks from the TCM lineup) and still shares sensibilities with someone like Eggers.
In an interview with THR, Columbus explained how an unfortunate experience working on “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” influenced him to be a better producer when it came to working with other auteur filmmakers.
Columbus spoke about his production company Maiden Voyage alongside his daughter and production partner Eleanor Columbus, and...
