Geronimo

Some say that his name can be heard when the wind blows.

When his family is slaughtered by Mexican troops, an Apache brave chooses a path that would make him known as one of the most feared warriors in history. His name? Geronimo.

It's still an annoyance to many that we have yet to get a truly on the money big screen biography film about Geronimo. How ironic, then, that the best film about the man is a TV film, one with an average budget and one filming with largely unknown actors - many of whom are actually Native Americans.

This take is more of an origin story, taking us into his life and dealing with the events that would lead to him becoming the most sought after warrior during the Indian Wars. The pic addresses some forgotten facts missed by Hollywood, like involving the Mexican army in how his life was shaped, and how they behaved in the first instance. His rise to mythical - ghost like - status is covered, and covered by 3 different actors during the stages of his life, building up to the pained scenario that would see him give himself up to the American government and all that nasty business that would follow.

It's authentically told and portrayed, with the location filming (Tuscon, Arizona) also aiding the earthy appeal of it all. And while it lacks a high quotient of the blood and thunder one might expect from a film with this subject matter, the integrity and all round humanisation of the subjects marks it out as an honest pic worthy of seeking out. 7/10

Best portrayal of Geronimo so far.

This version of the "Geronimo Legend" is the best so far, considering some of the other attempts to portray the Apache war leader, and tries to adhere to historical facts concerning his life. The result is a pretty fair movie, utilizing some pretty heavyweight Native American acting talent such as Joseph Running Fox,Nick Ramus,Michael Greyeyes,Jimmy Herman,August Schellenburg,Michelle St.John and Lusheia Lenaburg. The movie is well done, with plenty of action sequences as Geronimo and his band battle Mexican forces, later fighting the white Americans, when they in turn, encroached upon Apache land. Most of the Apache leaders of the time are also featured-Cochise,Mangus Coloradas,Nana and Juh,all relevant figures at the time and an influence in the struggle against overwhelming forces. The movie also portrays the sensitive side of the Native American character. The sorrow and despair of finding your family slaughtered, the sheer frustration of San Carlos, the hopelessness of resistance against a foe you know you can't beat. If anybody out there is interested in Native American history, this movie is well worth a watch. You won't be disappointed.

Best Film Portrayal of Geronimo Ever

I remember seeing this movie on TNT when it originally aired and really enjoyed it. This is one of TNT's best original movies ever. Sadly, TNT never airs this movie, and I think they have buried it, since it doesn't appear on their website as one of their original movies either.

This movie really properly portrayed the plight of the Apache during the 19th and even into the 20th century. Something that it's all-star cinema counterpart failed to do. Native Americans really got screwed over by the US government. None of the actors are very well known, but Joseph Runningfox (who I assume is an actual native american) did a great job as the Apache hero.

This movie manages to stay interesting, yet remain historically accurate and not portray the Apaches as unprovoked savages as in most movies about the legend. I wish TNT would play this movie again, or at least put the movie on video.

The history of the One Who Yawns!!

I can say I admire this movie for the vision of the myth of "Geronimo" (as a relation ((not a relative!!!)) I can't really see myself calling him Geronimo) that it delivers, which is a lot better than say it's Hollywood counterpart "Geronimo:An American Legend". It delivers more of the brutality the Apache had to put up w/ from the Mexicans and the White Eyes.As w/ all these movies, no history and lots of action and gut-wrenching. There's not much more I can say except check it out! Oh yeah, August Schellenberg is one of the coolest Indin's on film, not to mention he looks like a long-haired version of my dad! An 8.5!

Runningfox is amazing!

This is by far the BEST Geronimo movie ever - much better than the Jason Patric one IMHO.
