There is something magnetic about the summer, and ours is about to get a lot more exciting, seeing that the third season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is about to release. Based on Jenny Han’s beloved YA trilogy, it captures that magic with more than just sand and sea. At the heart of this tender, sun-drenched story is a girl named Belly, torn between two brothers and the weight of growing up.

While two seasons of the show brought us an unforgettable love triangle that felt like an emotional tug-of-war between Lola Tung’s Belly and Jeremiah and Conrad Fisher, adding to the theme is the series’ brilliant soundtrack. Multi Oscar winning producer New Regency has entered into a partnership with Los Angeles investment firm Shamrock Capital, whose Shamrock Content Strategy is taking a participation in the studio’s 35-year-old plus film and television library.

In addition, a standalone production credit facility was entered into by New Regency’s production arm to borrow in connection with new film, television, and media projects—including building on its past IP to create innovative content, alongside a new credit facility supporting its library. These credit facilities are provided by JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A.

The partnership with Shamrock relates solely to the New Regency library participation and will not be used to fund the production arm. Also note, Shamrock isn’t taking an equity stake here in the New Regency library, rather it’s a long-term commitment in the studio’s library cash flows.

The one thing that Lola Tung’s The Summer I Turned Pretty knows exactly how to do is pick its music. Any show can become timeless or insignificant based on the kind of music it picks, and thankfully for this series, they know just what tracks to choose. Across the two seasons of the show, the series has had the best songs placed at just the right moments, with one artist standing out more than the rest.

A new fantasy series is in development at Amazon that could be a new go-to for fans of the recently canceled The Wheel of Time. Deadline reports that Powerless is in the works at Prime Video. The series is based on the young adult book trilogy by Lauren Roberts, which includes 2023’s Powerless, 2024’s Reckless, and 2025’s Fearless.

Billed as a “romantasy,” the television adaptation of Powerless is coming from Daphne Ferraro, who was the head writer on the first season of the German series Maxton Hall, which also streams on Prime Video. The first season will reportedly follow the first novel and will come from Will Gluck’s Olive Bridge and Lyrical Media, which has the rights to all three of the books.

The cancellation of The Wheel of Time has barely had time to sink in, and it looks like Amazon are already looking for their next replacement fantasy project in a popular young adult romantic fantasy trilogy. Prime Video still has The Rings of Power flying the big-budget fantasy banner for the streamer, and it looks like they are not looking to get out of the fantasy game by any means.

As reported by Deadline, Amazon MGM Studios is looking to adapt Lauren Roberts’ Powerless into a new series which is being developed by original Maxton Hall head writer Daphne Ferraro. The book trilogy consists of 2023’s Powerless and sequels Reckless and Fearless, and the first season will reportedly adapt the first novel.

The biggest music dispute of our times appears to have come to an end, as Taylor Swift regained ownership of the masters to her six earlier albums. It came after a five-year-long dispute, with things turning ugly between Swift and record executive Scooter Braun. The dispute was even the subject of a two-part docuseries on Max, Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood.

In 2019, Swift wrote an explosive letter on Tumblr, telling the world that her masters had been sold without her consultation. She accused Braun of being a bully, while the former music manager claimed that his purchase of the masters was very much legal. Swift had resorted to re-recording her albums before she could call the albums her own again.

Taylor Swift has gained total control of her entire music catalog, including her original master recordings. “All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me,” she announced in a statement posted to her website on Friday.

According to Billboard, Swift purchased her original masters from Shamrock Capital, the private equity firm that acquired them from Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings in late 2020. Swift reportedly paid around $360 million to close the deal.

One of the many reasons Xo, Kitty is all the rage is because K-culture fans get to live their Korean fantasies through Kitty Song Covey’s story.
