Amazon's The Boys is one of the most successful shows on modern TV, but I'm convinced that if the team had used their original codename, the franchise would have been a non-starter. And while this in-world nickname is part of The Boys' satire of superhero media, we'll also look at behind-the-scenes details that show Butcher's team were originally conceived as very different characters, complete with their own superpowers and even a superhero logo.

Director, writer and producer Mark L. Lester will forever be tied to a handful of quintessential ’80s hits and cult films, among which a place of honor goes to the Joel Silver-produced, over-the-top Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle Commando (1985). A film which irrupts in cinema theatres after another two of the director’s most well-known efforts: Class of 1984 (1982) and the Stephen King adaption Firestarter (1984). In the following interview, Lester reminisces on how he transitioned from drive-ins to the Hollywood studio system.

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming to the streaming service in the month of September — and everything that’s leaving.

Highlights in the new category include Season 2 of “Pen15,” which stars Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle as their middle school selves, out Sept. 18. Another highlight is the series premiere of “Woke,” inspired by the life and work of American cartoonist Keith Knight. That’s out Sept. 9.

Leaving at the end of the month are movies like “50 First Dates,” “A Mighty Wind,” and “Best in Show.”

The Cold Light Of Day...

As August winds down, it’s time to look ahead to everything that’s hitting the major streaming services in September. As always, there’s an enormous haul of originals and newly licensed titles going up across Netflix, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Hulu and Prime Video over the month, including content from every genre out there.

The first day of September brings the usual lengthy list of movies arriving on most of the sites. Just a few of the highlights include all three Back to the Future films returning to Netflix, every entry in the Twilight saga arriving on Hulu and countless iconic movies going up on HBO Max, including Grease, Miss Congeniality and V for Vendetta. Also, Doctor Who fans will want to take note, as the most recent season of the show lands on HBO Max the same day.

We’re still a couple of weeks out from The Boys returning with its second season, but based on the footage we’ve seen so far, it certainly looks as if we’re in for another wild ride. One that may even top the first run of the show, which was one of the best things that we’d seen on television in a long time.

Of course, trying to predict how something as crazy as The Boys is going to end up is a fool’s errand, but let’s not forget that it won’t be the only new thing arriving on Amazon Prime in September. Far from it, in fact.

An election season is fast-approaching in the U.S. So for its new releases in September 2020, Amazon Prime is bringing back one of its most political shows.

The Boys season 2 premieres its first three episodes on September 4. Though the show on its face is a superhero story, viewers of season 1 will know it’s really about America’s troubling embrace of entertainment with fascism. Sounds fun and not at all terrifying right before a presidential election!

That’s not the only bleak Amazon original on the schedule for September. British TV adaptation Utopia arrives on September 25. This Gillian Flynn-produced series follows fans of a comic book who believe it predicts…world-ending pandemics. Darn it. Amazon’s only original film this month is a…documentary about voter suppression from Liz Garbus called All In: The Fight for Democracy. Yikes.

As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.

The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.

Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.

Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

With the streaming wars really starting to heat up now thanks to all the new services that have sprung up over the past few months, it’s more important than ever for the major players to continue delivering truckloads of new content to keep subscribers happy. And thankfully, Hulu intends on doing just that.

Earlier today, the platform announced their September line-up and it’s an exciting mix of films and TV shows covering iconic classics, underrated gems, overlooked projects and true fan favorites. In fact, it’s looking like a particularly strong month compared to what we’ve seen from the streaming site over the summer so far and below, you can check out the entire list of what’s headed to Hulu in the coming weeks.

Hulu has confirmed that several of its original series will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in October, including the first installment of the horror anthology “Into the Dark” as well as more of season 1 of the Sean Penn drama “The First.” And there will also be new to Hulu seasons of some of your favorites reality shows from other networks, including various editions of “Little Women” and “The Real Housewives.”

Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first Hulu appearances including the Oscar-winning “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and “Raging Bull.”

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in October 2018.

Happy Huluween!

Hulu is blessed to have a name that sounds roughly enough like "Hallow." That means it's basically honor-bound to bring the heat for Halloween. Thankfully for the October 2018 new releases, Hulu is bringing us the spookies that we need. The Blair Witch Project, The Others, and Child's Play all arrive this month. And if you're looking for some more wholesome creepies, The Nightmare Before Christmas should do. And if that weren't enough, Hulu is debuting its own horror show - anthology series Into the Dark.

For those shamefully unable to get into the Halloween spirit, Hulu is bringing in some other fun film options. Galaxy Quest, Music and Lyrics, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective should help out with that.

Then of course, are the usual and typically deep TV offerings.

Executive Producer Ashton Kutcher takes a look into the lives of the Extreme Justice League, real-life people in San Diego's Gaslamp District who walk the beat as self-proclaimed "activists" eager to protect people from evildoers and injustice. Yes, the costumes are pretty cool. And the weapons are also extremely awesome. But when you're dealing with people who oppose "apathy," it's pretty easy to forget about the pepper gel (although certainly not impossible).

Static co-writer Robert L Washington III has died at the age of 47. The comics writer passed away in Mount Sinai Queens Hospital in New York City after suffering multiple heart-attacks, reports Robot 6. Washington was best known for his work on the first 18-issue run of Milestone Comics Static alongside Dwayne McDuffie and John Paul Leon. Robert Lee Washington III, a comic book writer best known for writing the first 18 issues of Static for Milestone Media, passed away today after suffering from multiple heart attacks.

Robert had a heart attack yesterday afternoon. He collapsed, unconscious, and was rushed to Mount Sinai hospital in Queens. In the following twenty four hours, he had two additional heart attacks. His heart stopped at 7:18pm tonight and he passed away.

Robert first came to prominence in 1993 writing the debut of Static for the new Milestone Comics line, and later writing Shadow Cabinet. He also wrote Extreme Justice for DC Comics, The Good Guys for Defiant, and Ninjak for Acclaim.

In later years, he’d gone through some rough patches. He’d been homeless a few times, and had received assistance from the Hero Initiative to get back on his feet, but by all accounts was getting back on his feet.

Since Sony launched the PSPgo last year, the system has hit a few bumps trying to gain traction in the market. Sony has blamed piracy for PSP platform stagnation broadly, but it looks like they've decided to leverage legal free games to try to attract more go buyers.

"Gran Turismo," "LittleBigPlanet," "MotorStorm Arctic Edge," "Wipeout Pure" and "Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice," are all being offered to newly registered PSPgo's, according to a Sony representative speaking to GamesIndustry.biz. The offerings also include "FIFA 2010 World Cup," "Need for Speed Shift," "Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars," "Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines" and one third-party title.

I'm not totally clear from this report as to whether or not all ten are available together or if you have to select from the batch. "Gran Turismo" was available early on to the system's buyers, but this extended catalog of offerings has an impressive lineup.
