Dead Fall: Les Pros de l'arnaque

Mom And Dad Review [Fantastic Fest 2017]
Those who worship at the altar of Cage, I come speaking words of comfort. Our Lord and savior St. Nicolas not only nails his role as a psychotic, mind-controlled parent in Brian Taylor’s Mom And Dad, but it’s Cageified madness for the ages. Mental, looney-bin perfection. Every scene. The film itself is a loose midnight riff on child-killin’ genre licks – amusing and frantic – but Cage hasn’t freaked-out this memorably in years, maybe a decade. We’re talking good enough for viral YouTube compilation videos featuring *just* Nic Cage’s unraveling in Mom And Dad, with viral potential rivaling similar vids for Neil Labute’s The Wicker Man remake. Praise be to Cage, hallowed be thy craziness.

In Taylor’s story, an inexplicable force is driving mothers and fathers to kill their children. No explanation, no motivation. It’s like a switch is thrown that turns parents like...

Competition: Win a DVD bundle to support the release of Army of One!
Hollywood legend Nicolas Cage is at his gonzo, gurning, goofball best as an American man on a mission to Pakistan to single-handedly mount a war on terror, in the most outrageously hilarious culture clash comedy to hit the screen since Borat, and directed by the comedy genius behind that film, Larry Charles. It’s made all the more berserk and bizarre by the fact that it is a true story.

Synopsis:

Eccentric ex-convict Gary Faulkner has a vision from God, telling him he must single-handedly mount a war on terror. Faulkner, armed with a single samurai sword bought from a home shopping channel, travels from the Us to Pakistan to embark on his highly dangerous and foolhardy mission – where he runs into bemused locals, irate CIA men, and even America’s most wanted, Osama bin Laden himself.

Army of One is available to rent on VOD and Digital HD from 19th December.

Nicolas Cage at an event for Hell Driver (2011)
‘Arsenal’ Trailer: John Cusack and Adrian Grenier Take On Nicolas Cage In New Action Thriller
Nicolas Cage at an event for Hell Driver (2011)
This year, Nicolas Cage starred in films about ex-cons kidnapping a mobster’s birthday, an imbalanced civilian trying to hunt down Osama Bin Laden and a WWII Navy Captain struggling to stay alive in shark-infested waters. Suffice to say, he’s an actor who takes on varied roles, and this January, audiences will see him again as a ruthless mobster who faces off against John Cusack (“High Fidelity”) and Adrian Grenier (“Entourage”)

The film follows the Lindel brothers, Mikey (Johnathon Schaech) and Jp (Grenier), who had taken completely different paths in their adult life. Jp found success as the owner of a construction company, while Mikey became a small-time mobster. But when Mikey is kidnapped by crime boss Eddit King (Cage), Jp turns to his old friend Sal (Cusack), a plain clothes detective,...

Nicolas Cage Names His Favorite Performances, Bashes Modern Film Criticism
I've made my affections for Nicolas Cage no secret on this site. It's a love ironic and not. I truly believe the actor can command a strong performance when given a chance, even today despite the rantings of those who believe otherwise -- I'll point to Joe and the first Kick-Ass to back my case. Even when he's bad, though, his odd fixture usually remains alluring. The mannerisms, delivery and personality traits he gives to his characters are entirely his own, and only occasionally does that not work in his favor with regards to entertainment, like in last week's The Runner. His most insane performances, from The Wicker Man to Vampire's Kiss, are not always celebrated but they're sure-as-hell remembered, and that's the case for the actor as well. Talking to Time about his filmography while promoting his aforementioned new political drama, the kookier and/or more emotionally demanding roles...

Gia Coppola at an event for Palo Alto (2013)
The Indiewire Springboard: 'Palo Alto' Director Gia Coppola Lives Up To Her Family's Legacy
Gia Coppola at an event for Palo Alto (2013)
Every Friday, Indiewire's Springboard column profiles up-and-comers in the indie world who deserve your attention. Select profiles will include photography by Daniel Bergeron, exclusive to Indiewire. Today we talk to director Gia Coppola. It seems that at a certain point in the Coppola family you’re given a camera and a typewriter and tasked to go out and make your own film. Gia Coppola is the sixth member of her family to get behind the camera, following grandfather Francis, aunt Sofia, and uncles Roman ("Cq," "A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III") Christopher ("Deadfall"), and Nicolas Cage ("Sonny"). It’s quite a legacy to live up to, but the youngest Coppola’s new film "Palo Alto" shows that she’s a talent worth watching in her own right. "Palo Alto" has a similar dreamy quality to Sofia’s "The Virgin Suicides," but it stands out for its strong...

‘Joe’, by David Gordon Green and starring Nicolas Cage, releases a new trailer
Over the course of his career, actor Nicolas Cage has effectively developed two sets of fans; those who admire his performance in movies such as Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona, and Adaptation, and those who admire his performance in movies such as Vampire’s Kiss, Deadfall, and The Wicker Man. Fans of Cage’s first set were thus excited to hear of his casting in the newest drama from director David Gordon Green. Titled Joe, Gary Hawkins adapts the screenplay from the Larry Brown novel, and Cage stars alongside Tye Sheridan, Ronnie Gene Blevins, and Heather Kafka. A new trailer for the film has now been released, and can be seen below. Sound on Sight also did see the movie at Tiff, and our reviews can be read here, as well as here.

Nicolas Cage Empire Interview: 7 Ridiculous Quotes From The Oscar-Winning Actor
Actor/castle-collector Nicolas Cage has the tendency to say and do some unbelievably outlandish things. For instance, at a Romanian nightclub last year, he screamed at random strangers, telling them he would "fucking die because of honor." However, situations like these are not just held to manic episodes in public. Sometimes, Cage will also voice strange things during interviews, like he did in a recent online chat with fans over on Empire magazine's website. Thanks to the number of wacky things uttered by the "Ghost Rider" star during this Q&A, Moviefone now presents, The 7 Most Ridiculous Things Said By Nic Cage In His Empire Interview. (Seriously, the only thing that could top them would be Cage doing a rendition of Lmfao's "Sexy And I Know It" on live radio. Oh, wait.) On his character in "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" "He is a spirit of death but he loves children; he's very lustful,...

10 Charlie Sheen Roast Jokes That Haven’t Been Made Yet
Comedy Central just announced that their next annual Roast will feature none other than 2011′s most ubiquitous tigerblooded human-shaped-chaos-factory, Charlie Sheen. I’m a big fan of all the Comedy Central Roasts, but this time, I’m legitimately concerned — seemingly every Charlie Sheen joke that could’ve ever possibly been made was already Tweeted seventy times in the past couple months, and if everyone’s already sick of “Winning” jokes now, I can’t imagine we’ll be back in the mood for them by the time September rolls around. Because there’s no Charlie Sheen jokes left, we’ve scoured the slightly more obscure corners of Charlie Sheen’s IMDb page to come up with this list of 10 Charlie Sheen Roast Jokes That Haven’t Been Made Yet: 1. Who could forget Charlie Sheen’s portrayal of “Peter” in the 1990 epic Courage Mountain? That movie was huger than Lisa Lampanelli’s vagina!

Michael Biehn Career Assessment: Go With Him If You Want To Live
Subject: Michael Biehn, 53-year old American actor (turned writer and director)

Date of Assessment: March 2, 2011

Positive Buzzwords: Intensity, ability to speak wordless volumes, James Cameron

Negative Buzzwords: Lack of star power, James Cameron

The Case: Upon initial contemplation of this week's subject, the first question that springs to mind is this: What the hell ever happened to Michael Biehn? Such an involuntary reaction is based upon an assumption that Biehn's a relatively lost visage of the 1980s; but anyone who's been paying attention would realize that Biehn's been (for the most part) working steadily as an actor even though his big-time blockbuster roles have long since ceased to exist. Naturally, he came from humble beginnings by steadily landing a lot of television work, including both regular series (even an "ABC Afternoon Special") and made-for-tv movies before moving into feature films. Upon arrival within the celluloid realm, Biehn initially appeared to...

Cage’s ‘Drive Angry’ the latest attempt to manufacture grindhouse thrills
Drive Angry 3D

Directed by Patrick Lussier

Written by Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier

USA, 2011

The latest attempt to bottle vintage grindhouse thrills with the aid of a name-brand star and a (relatively) huge budget, Patrick Lussier’s Drive Angry isn’t as odious as some of the attempted revivalists (Bitch Slap remains the gruesome nadir), but it doesn’t do much to contradict the notion that contemporary efforts to reconstruct low-budget ’70s thrills inevitably feel like they’re simply trying too hard to push the sex-and-violence envelope while simultaneuously missing out on the scrappy charm and easy wit that marks the best grindhouse fare.

Resembling equal parts a dumbed-down version of the fire-and-brimstone comic series Preacher and a 13-year-old’s imagined narrative arc for Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell, Drive stars the ever-adrift Nicolas Cage as Milton (sigh), a former prisoner of Hell who escapes back to...

Natalie Portman Wins Prize At The Palms Spring Festival

At the 2011 Palms Springs Festival “talk of the town” actress Natalie Portman picked up the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award for her critically acclaimed lead turn as a ballerina in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. Portman has been generating strong Oscar buzz ever since the film first premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September and both herself and four time Oscar nominee Annette Benning (The Kids Are alright) are seen as certainties for the lead actress nominees at the Academy Awards which are to be announced later this month on Tuesday, January 25th.

A win at the Palms Springs Festival is certainly a good start for Natalie Portman, (one of the few child star success stories) as...

Votd: Nicolas Cage Losing His Sh*t
Nicolas Cage at an event for Hell Driver (2011)
How much losing of shit can you pack into just over four minutes? When it's Nicolas Cage and you've got the Requiem For a Dream score along to grease the wheels, quite a lot. The clip that follows is fast on the way to the hall of fame, but while the editing is well-done, the infamy is all due to the pure emotion of Nic Cage. The actor has become renowned for his batshit crazy performances, but seen in isolated doses you might assume that some of his fits were motivated by direction or character. If you were having bees poured into a basket on your head you'd go nuts, too. But with all of this hair-pulling, floor-stomping, scenery-chewing totally mental work in one place, there's no conclusion to draw other than this: Nicolas Cage is the best actor of his generation. Or at least the most vocally volcanic. Head...

Requiem for Nicolas Cage Losing His Sh*t
I have no idea what would inspire Pajiba's Harry Hanrahan to spend the amount of time it must've taken to put this video dubbed "Nicolas Cage Losing His Sh*t," but it is inspired.

Nicolas Cage Losing His Sh*t: The Video
The best video editor in the business, Harry Hanrahan, is back with another video edit, this one an inspired take on Nicolas Cage's descent into madness. For all the sins that Nic Cage has committed during his career, there's still nothing better than Crazy Cage. The man loses his shit better than any actor around, and Harry's latest offers ample evidence to support that notion.

You thought his "Not the Bees" moment from The Wicker Man was crazy? In this video edit, it's one of his milder moments.

You can pack a lot of crazy in four minutes, folks.

(Hat Tip to Smokey for the inspiration)

A conversation with Christopher Coppola
Independent Filmmaker Christopher Coppola has made a career both behind, and in-front of the camera. Recently devoting time to his state-of-the-art digital studio with offices in Los Angeles and New Mexico, Fango's Matt Molgaard recently caught up with the man to talk a little film.

It's been some time since you last directed a feature length film. Do you have any projects in the works?

I've been spending my time building a cutting edge HD/New Media Studio/Production Company - Christopher R. Coppola Productions/PlasterCity Digital Post.  I am developing my project Biker MacBeth which will be my coup de gras.

Dracula's Widow was one of your first pictures if I'm not mistaken. Tell me a little bit about your first experience tackling a feature length film.

I went into it as a young Bohemian fresh out of art school.  I wanted to make a color film noir, creating...
