Troll 3: Contamination

Prolific ‘Troll 2’ & ‘Zombi 3’ Writer Rossella Drudi Has Passed Away
Image
Severin Films, who have released a long lineup of her films, brings us the sad news this week that prolific Italian genre screenwriter Rossella Drudi has passed away at the age of 61.

Horror fans may best know Rossella Drudi as the co-writer of Troll 2, which was one of Drudi’s many collaborations with her husband, Claudio Fragasso. Both Drudi and Fragasso were heavily featured in the documentary Best Worst Movie, which dove deep into the making of Troll 2 as well as explored the film’s legacy as one of the, well, best worst movies ever made.

But Rossella Drudi worked on countless other Italian genre movies throughout her decades-spanning career, writing and co-writing horror films including Hell of the Living Dead, Women’s Prison Massacre, Rats: Night of Terror, Monster Dog, Zombi 3, Robowar, After Death, Beyond Darkness, and The Crawlers, and that list quite frankly goes on and on.

‘Yule Log’ Review
Image
Stars: Jamie Morgan, Jeff Kirkendall, Tim Hatch, Michael Korotitsch | Written by Aaron Drake | Directed by Mark Polonia

What would Christmas be without a Yule Log? To make sure we don’t have to worry about it, Mark Polonia has followed up such wonderful seasonal films as Feeders 2: Slay Bells and Sister Krampus with Yule Log, a festive tale of witchery and vengeance from beyond the grave.

The film begins with a lecture on witches and witch hunting, concluding with the tale of Drucinda of the Woods who was nailed to a tree and left for the ravens. But not before casting an unspecified curse on the woods. In the present, Robin survives a car crash only to have Drucinda cast a spell on her.

Unaware of this, Charles and Roy are about to pick up their buddy Earl. He recently lost his wife and they don’t want him...

Blu-ray Review Round-Up: The Screaming Skull, Contamination .7, The Naked Cage, Demented
Though Scream Factory originally made their name by releasing comprehensive special editions of beloved horror titles and some lesser-known cult films deserving reappraisal, after five years the company is diversifying their output more and more. They struck an exclusive deal to release IFC Midnight titles, they’ve picked up a few films and put them out under the “Scream Factory” imprint, and have even developed and produced their very first original feature, Mark Pavia’s Fender Bender, in 2016. In addition to all of this, Scream Factory has begun releasing smaller and lesser-known catalogue titles, nearly bypassing the special features altogether and just giving some older cult titles their high-def debuts. Included in their latest slate of releases is everything from a John Stamos sci-fi action film (Never Too Young to Die) to an unofficial Troll sequel. Let’s take a look at four of these catalogue titles—The Screaming Skull,...

Scream Factory Wishes Cult Film Fans Happy Holidays by Announcing Five New Blu-ray Releases
Scream Factory is wishing cult horror film fans a very happy holiday season by announcing five obscure genre titles they plan to release on Blu-ray in 2017.

On Facebook, Scream Factory announced that in the spring / summer of 2017, they plan on releasing Blu-rays of Invasion of the Bee Girls (1973), The Vampire (1957), 1993's Contamination .7 (aka The Crawlers), I Bury the Living (1958), and The Naked Cage (1986).

The five selected titles came from an online vote Scream Factory conducted earlier this year when they let fans know which movies they had rights to and asked them which ones they'd like to see released on Blu-ray. You can read the official announcement below, and we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated on further release details as they are revealed.

From Scream Factory: "Some of you back in the Fall may remember that we asked you to vote on some obscure titles...

Blu-ray Review: Ghosthouse/Witchery Double Feature
While their contributions to horror and exploitation cinema in the ’70s and ’80s can never be understated, the Italians had a funny habit of co-opting unrelated movies and branding them as sequels to one another despite the fact that they were never designed as such. When Lucio Fulci made his classic Zombie in 1979, it was released as Zombi 2 in Europe despite having nothing to do with George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, originally released as Zombi overseas. Sam Raimi’s first two Evil Dead films played under the titles La Casa and La Casa 2, which wouldn’t be anything unusual if there weren’t three more totally unrelated La Casa movies released after the fact. The implication is that these movies were sequels to the Evil Dead series. They were not.

Thanks to Scream Factory, two of those films are hitting Blu-ray on one double feature disc under their American titles,...

I Declare War Director To Tackle Philip K Dick's The Crawlers
Intriguing news for fans of iconic scifi author Philip K Dick with word that I Declare War director Jason Lapeyre has been attached to direct an adaptation of Dick's short story The Crawlers for producers Edward Pressman and Isa Dick Hackett, the latter also being Dick's daughter. Given that the previous Joe D'Amato / Fabrizio Laurenti directed adaptation - known variously as Troll 3 and Contamination .7 - is less than good, this can only be considered a step forward. The initial announcement over at The Wrap describes the story this way:"The Crawlers" is set in the late 1960s and follows a young government land-surveyor as he wanders off course into Boyle, Texas. After interacting with some of the strange, secretive residents, he follows a trail of...

Troll II (1990)
The 'Troll' trilogy: Is this really the 'Best Worst' movie franchise of all time?
Troll II (1990)
The first Troll film concerned the magical adventures of a teenager named Harry Potter. The second, according to a new documentary, is the Best Worst Movie ever made. And no one seems sure if there even was a third movie. In this special report EW examines the twisted, crazy, and frequently so-bad-it's-hilarious world of... Troll! Next: “I don’t think Troll 2 is the worst movie of all-time. I think Transformers 2 is the worst movie of all time.” On a beautiful Brooklyn evening last July, Michael Paul Stephenson took part in a question-and-answer session following an outdoor screening of the 1990 horror movie Troll 2.
