Old-school anime fans are likely familiar with Video Girl Ai -- a classic romantic comedy that helped popularize the concept of "virtual love" in anime and manga. Recently, Masakazu Katsura, author and illustrator of the original Video Girl Ai manga, revealed his entry for Saikyo Jump's ongoing "Dragon Ball Super Gallery" project.
Katsura's artwork recently made the rounds on X (formerly Twitter) via the popular news hub Shonen Jump News (@WSJ_manga). As shown below, the manga artist chose to recreate the highly iconic cover illustration for Dragon Ball Volume 1, which highlights Goku and Shenron, the mighty dragon that is summoned every time someone gathers the Dragon Balls and makes a wish. While the overall design is virtually identical to Akira Toriyama's, Katsura's version features a different shading style and a slightly altered color scheme. Cbr readers can check it out below.
