Sylvester Stallone’s earliest credits found him in some of the quintessential movies of the ‘70s. Unfortunately, he’s hard to spot in most and is credited as Hotel Guest or Subway Thug #1 (Bananas) or Soldier Sitting at Camp Table (M*A*S*H). Now, the movie that gave him a name is finally getting the proper release that has evaded it for more than 50 years.

Sylvester Stallone is a renowned movie star with hits such as Rocky, Rambo, and Mission: Impossible, among many others. However, even the biggest stars have to start somewhere, and usually it's in indie productions as they seek to get their foot in the door. For Stallone, his first stab at leading a feature film was in Robert Schnitzer's No Place to Hide. A labor of passion, the film challenged Schnizter as a filmmaker because he made it on his dime and had to improvise. Part of that improvisation was hiring unknown non-SAG actors, which is how Stallone was cast. The film has had a lengthy journey getting in front of viewers, and fifty years after its initial release, the director is once again allowing moviegoers to watch it, according to IndieWire. Retitled Rebel: Director's Cut, the movie will return to select cinemas nationwide from June 6.

In 1971, 21-year old independent filmmaker Robert Schnitzer financed his first micro-budget feature the way Robert Townsend, Kevin Smith, and other maverick directors would decades later: by putting it all on his credit card. He couldn’t afford SAG actors and saw over 500 newcomers for the lead role of Jerry Savage, an anti-war activist who plots to bomb a cookware company that makes “tiger cages” used to drown, torture, and imprison people in Vietnam.
After two months of auditions, Schnitzer had a clear top choice for the role: a 24-year old unknown named Sylvester Stallone. “He was completely unique,” Schnitzer told IndieWire, adding that his partners on the film did not share his enthusiasm. “They said, ‘Do not hire him. You can’t understand the way he speaks!'” Schnitzer fought for Stallone, whom he felt was a true original, and his colleagues ultimately gave in to his wishes.

Social media lit ablaze Friday after footage of journalist Glenn Greenwald performing intimate acts leaked online. In a statement released on X, Greenwald confirmed it was him in the videos, saying it was released “without my knowledge or consent” and that the motive was a “maliciously political one.”
Greenwald, 58, was a litigation attorney who transitioned to online journalism with his blogging on national security issues in the aftermath of the 2001 World Trade Center attacks. He shot to international attention in 2013 with a series of reports at The Guardian based on information from National Security Agency intelligence contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden, who leaked classified documents on global surveillance programs.
Greenwald was part of a team awarded the Pulitzer Prize for the coverage in 2014. He co-founded The Intercept in 2014 with investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill and documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras — who helped break the Snowden story — until his resignation in 2020 over what...

Before Rocky, before Rambo, there was Rebel. The 1971 thriller was Sylvester Stallone's first starring role, and it's been unavailable in any form for over twenty years. Now, it's been remastered in 4K and will be coming to theaters and on-demand. It will be re-released on June 6, 2025.
Seize the Time!, a film about a group of student activists who turn to violence, was directed by Robert Allen Schnitzer; he also co-wrote the script with Larry Beinhart, whose novel American Hero would later be adapted into the film Wag the Dog. It was filmed in New York City and starred a cast of unknown actors, including Stallone. It was eventually released in 1973 as No Place to Hide. If you've paid any kind of attention to Sylvester Stallone's film career for any amount of time, you know he's made some absolutely terrible movies. To be fair, some were out of necessity. Prior to becoming a big screen superstar in 1976 with "Rocky," a briefly homeless Stallone starred in a quickie pornographic romance called "The Party at Kitty and Stud's" (which was rereleased post-stardom as "The Italian Stallion"). Around the same time, he also appeared in the low-budget terrorism thriller "No Place to Hide," which was recut as a comedy and dumped into video stores in 1990 with the title "A Man Called... Rainbo."
For the most part, however, Stallone has been the author of his own cinematic misery. After the wild critical and commercial success of "Rocky", the star went on a decade-plus tear during which he could get anything greenlit. At first, he put his newfound box office...

Smile 2 doubles down on the original's horror now that the demonic curse has found its next host. The sequel's doomed protagonist also shares a Scream actor's celebrity status.
Smile 2 director Parker Finn said they prioritized building a believable persona for the film's main protagonist. The sequel is bigger and bolder with a pop superstar as the demon curse's new focus. Smile 2 follows pop sensation Skye Riley's (played by Naomi Scott) rehabilitation and recovery after a life-changing event; the fictional character appears on The Drew Barrymore Show to reflect on her recovery and to announce her comeback concert. Finn told Entertainment Weekly that Barrymore's cameo validated Skye Riley's celebrity status.

The 1970s saw an explosion of TV-movies, and a number of these small-screen features were based on novels. The two examples here, which are some of the most memorable of their day, sit on opposite ends of the adaptation spectrum. While Bad Ronald (1974) took liberties with its source material, Are You in the House Alone? (1978) stays somewhat true to the spirit of the novel. Both features also teeter on the edge of horror, a recurring genre in the “golden age” of made-for-television movies.
Jack Vance was not a horror-only author, so Bad Ronald (1973) is an anomaly in his overall body of work. ABC quickly acted on the success of the novel, with the network ultimately airing its adaptation a week before Halloween. However, Andrew Peter Marin’s screenplay is different from what Vance had penned. Anyone who has read the original novel would understand — maybe even appreciate — the changes in director Buzz Kulik’s version.

Drew Barrymore has found her way into a wide variety of horror movies and TV shows, ranging from abysmally bad to hall-of-fame pictures. The latest in a long line of famous Barrymore actors, ever since Drew Barrymore's film debut at the tender age of 5 years old in Altered States, she's been a staple cast in a variety of horror movies. While her filmography expanded to include family-friendly adventures like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and romantic comedies like 50 First Dates, she'd continuously come back to horror films and shows throughout her career.
While many of Drew Barrymore's best films in general are horror pictures, not every scary movie she's starred in has been a success. A few duds have followed her early career, in particular, typically obscure, low-budget horror movies that were able to get away with casting Barrymore before she truly became a household name. Never one to shy away from controversy, it appears that Oliver Stone will be the filmmaker to bring the inevitable feature film portrayal of Nsa leaker Edward Snowden to fruition. The European co-production is based on Luke Harding’s book The Snowden Files, which recounts how the young computer professional breached the National Security Agency to leak evidence of America’s global surveillance. The Guardian reports that Stone hopes to begin production by the end of this year, as a rival Edward Snowden film is in the works based on the book No Place to Hide. Harding and other Guardian journalists will be consulting on Stone’s film. Stone has never been afraid of delving into politically charged material, though it has made for mixed results. JFK and Platoon are fantastic, while films like W. and Alexander fell short of their promise. Stone’s recent output hasn’t been stellar,...

It's far too early in the process for formal casting decisions, but when CNN's Jake Tapper asked Greenwald if he had any ideas about who could play him and former Nsa contractor Edward Snowden in the film, he admitted that he'd heard some rumors.

Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have been two of the driving forces behind the James Bond franchise since 1979 and 1987, respectively. Both have several decades of experience with fostering the adventures of everyone's favorite 00 agent through changes in political and social climates, and so far they've done a pretty good job of it. So it's only natural that both producers are looking to expand into the realm of true-life espionage, and Sony has acquired the project that will serve as their entry into the non-fictional narrative. Deadline reports that the rights to the recently published memoir No Place To Hide have been secured by Sony Pictures, with Wilson and Broccoli set to produce. The memoir, written by reporter Glenn Greenwald, tells the story of Mr. Greenwald's partnership with Nsa contractor turned activist Edward Snowden. Together, they would report the extent of the intelligence gathering the Nsa was engaged in, both...

Eon Productions adds a film about Edward Snowden to its slate...
News
Eon Productions is spreading its tentacles beyond the world of James Bond, as it's now snapped up the rights to Glenn Greenwald's book, No Place To Hide: Edward Snowden, The Nsa And The U.S. Surveillance State.
Edward Snowden, as you may well recall, was the former CIA and Nsa employee who leaked classified documents to the media. As such, he was hit with an espionage charge by the Us, and fled to Russia, where he still lives. Greenwald was the journalist who broke the story of Snowden's secrets.
Producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are currently hard at work putting James Bond 24 together, but they'll develop the Edward Snowden feature for Sony. And whilst there's no screenwriter yet charged with turning the story into a film, we'd imagine all concerned want to get this one moving rather quickly.

Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that it optioned the film rights to No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the Nsa, and the U.S. Surveillance State, the new book by Glenn Greenwald, whose reporting on the revelations contained in Snowden's top-secret Nsa documents won the Pulitzer Prize for The Guardian newspaper. Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of Eon Productions will produce the film.
Glenn Greenwald 's highly-anticipated book examines the journalist's personal involvement in working with Snowden to break numerous stories about the U.S. government's intelligence gathering operations. The book is both a thrilling personal narrative of the events as they unfolded, and an important historical reflection on the broader implications of the Nsa's activities.
Commenting on the announcement, Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, said,
"Edward Snowden's explosive revelations have raised important questions about the role of government in protecting its citizens and the balance between national security and personal freedom.

Edward Snowden, one of the most talked-about figures in the news over the last few years, is headed to the big screen. Sony has picked up the film rights to Glenn Greenwald's new book "No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the Nsa, and the U.S. Surveillance State," with plans to turn it into a big screen political thriller. The James Bond production team of Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will produce the politically themed drama said to be in line with Sony's other recent ripped-from-the-headlines dramas like "The Social Network" and "Captain Phillips." A onetime Nsa contractor, Snowden was forced to flee the U.S. after initiating that biggest government leak in U.S. history and sparking an ongoing debate about the role of government surveillance. There has been no word on who will play Snowden or who will write and direct the film, but Sony...

Sony has secured rights to Glenn Greenwald's "No Place to Hide," the buzzy book on Edward Snowden and what he revealed about Us security officials' electronic surveillance. It's been a long road to nabbing the rights. Per the Nyt, Hollywood has been eyeing the book since fall of 2013, but there were concerns about taking on a story that continues to play out. (The 30-year-old Snowden is currently in Russia, while he faces criminal charges back here in the Us. In April he hired a Washington lawyer to try to negotiate a plea deal.) But Sony's no stranger to tackling stories that continue to heat up -- see "Zero Dark Thirty." Last month the Washington Post and the Guardian scored the Pulitzer Prize in journalism for their lid-blowing reporting on the Snowden Nsa story. The book rights have been acquired specifically for producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, best...
