Michelle Yeoh has always been a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the screen. She rose to fame as an action star in Hong Kong and reached the pinnacle of her career with her Oscar win for Everything Everywhere All at Once.

When it comes to Hollywood, two of the greatest action heroes of all time are none other than the legendary Jackie Chan and Tom Cruise. To say the least, both of these star figures of the entertainment industry even seem to have laughed in the face of death while performing their death-defying stunts as unhesitantly as ever.

For a long time, there have been debates between the fans of both of these real-life superheroes about who does it better. And, this time around, Chan might just have won with his outstanding performance, considering his one stunt from Super Cop that outclasses even Cruise’s helicopter stunt from Mission: Impossible 8.

“A Legend” is another entry in the seemingly unlimited Jackie Chan universe, and despite its visual opulence, it is ultimately a bitter disappointment. The film joins the ranks of the many, many expensive but insignificant works that the action master has delivered in recent years. Released nationwide on July 10, it was massively rejected by Chinese audiences: With production costs of a good 50 million dollars, “A Legend” brought in a meager 11 million dollars and was not received well by critics either.

Jackie Chan once attempted to break out of his signature comedy style in the early part of the millennium when he made New Police Story, which had him playing a more dramatic role as an alcoholic ex-cop. He would follow it up with 2005’s The Myth, which would be half of an Armor of God-type movie where he played an archeologist and half of a period film where Chan also played a General of a historical Chinese army. Chan returns with a new sequel to The Myth, titled A Legend. This film reunites him with director Stanley Tong, who directed Chan in movies like Rumble in the Bronx and Police Story 3: Supercop.

Most fans consider Simu Liu's bus fight as the standout action sequence in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The actor revealed how his training scene with Michelle Yeoh became a personal favorite.
Simu Liu had nothing but praise for Michelle Yeoh's grace and physicality in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Aware of Yeoh's impressive performances in martial arts films like Supercop, The Touch, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Liu recalled their fight scene in Shang-Chi bordered on the surreal. Shang-Chi knew how to fight but still had a lot to learn early in the film (as demonstrated by his awkward yet effective moves during the bus fight sequence); Liu told Collider he didn't need to try hard to sell his clumsy stunts in the film. This was highlighted in Shang-Chi's training scene with Yeoh's character Ying Nan, whose fighting style uses Tai chi techniques.

After orchestrating several action sequences alongside some notable fighters, there is one particular co-star that Simu Liu feels honored to have faced off against. During his time on the set of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the actor was daunted at the idea of sharing the screen with Michelle Yeoh, given that she is martial arts certified and known for her stunt work in films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Supercop. Yet, according to Liu at a Fan Expo Canada panel, the experience of playing opposite her was nothing but rewarding. He told audiences:...

Rotten Tomatoes can rank an actor's best movie strangely due to the way it aggregates reviews. Michelle Yeoh's 1985 "Yes, Madam" & Jeff Goldblum's "Annie Hall" are two examples. Lesser-known films like Tilda Swinton's "Edward II" can gain 100% scores, even if many people haven't heard of them.
The Rotten Tomatoes rating system occasionally produces some strange results, meaning that an actor's highest-rated movie isn't one that audiences typically associate with them. This has a lot to do with the way that Rotten Tomatoes aggregates reviews to come up with its scores. Lesser-known movies can score 100% if they have unanimously positive reviews, while more popular movies which naturally generate more reviews can fall down the rankings if one or two critics dislike them.
The other main reason why Rotten Tomatoes doesn't always accurately reflect an actor's best movie is that it doesn't take into account the size of an actor's role.

Jackie Chan is widely regarded as one of the best exponents of martial arts in the world. With the legendary Bruce Lee as his idol, Chan began his career as a stuntman in Hong Kong before taking the big leap into Hollywood. There, he made his name as not just an action star, but as an actor with a flair for comedy too.

Michelle Yeoh dominated the action film industry long before Hollywood caught up to her standards. Competing against the likes of Jackie Chan, the Malaysian-Chinese actress made Hong Kong action cinema her home with classics like Yes, Madam (1985) and Police Story 3: Super Cop (1992). 5 years later, the entire world would come to know of her in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies as a no-nonsense agent skilled in martial arts who was anything but a Bond girl.

The story goes thus: it was 1985, and Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan, having enjoyed nearly two decades of cinematic success in his native country, wanted to extend his reach into the United States. Chan had already tried to infiltrate America in 1980 with Robert Clouse's film "The Big Brawl," but while it was highly respected by martial arts fans, "Brawl" wasn't the massive hit Chan wanted. Chan had already directed four movies by 1985 but still felt that an American director could translate his fightin' sensibilities for a North American audience more accurately. So, he hired genre filmmaker James Glickenhaus to helm the 1985 actioner "The Protector."
Chan and Glickenhaus butted heads throughout production, as Glickenhaus refused to film fight sequences in a way Chan approved of. At the end of production, Chan merely re-edited the film himself and directed new scenes in the hope of salvaging the project.

Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 sequel series, currently filming in Prague.
Already a veteran of action and science fiction genres, Oscar-winning actor Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s limited TV series, Blade Runner 2099.
Currently, that’s about all we know. Even Deadline, which first published the news, doesn’t know anything useful about the character Yeoh will play or what the series will be about. Sorry about that.
The series has been in development for quite a while, though, given that it’s a sequel to 2017’s Blade Runner 2049 (itself a sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner), and there’s still nothing to watch roughly seven years on.

There's a certain type of actor that likes to brag about performing their own stunts. Obviously, this kind of bravado is a given — and a source of tremendous excitement — when we're talking about martial arts stars like Jackie Chan, Anita Mui, and Scott Adkins. They can make physical combat look elegant and playful, or, in the case of guys like Adkins, just flat-out brutal. But we also hear likewise about folks like Harrison Ford, Angelina Jolie and, of course, Tom Cruise — folks who like to mix it up as much as they can.
As someone who can no longer ride a rollercoaster without fainting, I envy these people for their fearlessness. What a gift — or a touch of madness — it must be willing to jump off a speeding van onto a moving car (as Michelle Yeoh did in "Police Story 3: Super Cop").

When it comes to action cinema, there is almost nothing cooler than a great motorcycle stunt. The team behind Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning essentially built their entire marketing campaign around a major one where Tom Cruise, in spectacular fashion, raced a bike off a cliff into a free fall. It was impressive, and beautifully captured in the movie. However, before Michelle Yeoh won hearts world over with Everything Everywhere All At Once, she stole the show with an even greater, more daring motorcycle stunt in the 1992 film Police Story 3: Supercop, or as it was known in the U.S., Supercop.

Plot: Two ex-special forces soldiers must escort a group of civilians along Baghdad’s “Highway of Death” to the safety of the Green Zone.
Review: Released last week with minimal promotion, the new action flick Hidden Strike shocked everyone by becoming the number-one movie on Netflix in the United States and over fifty other countries. It should come as no surprise that a movie starring Jackie Chan and John Cena would do as well as this. With the marketplace desperate for products due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes limiting the new content at their disposal, Hidden Strike is a surprising success story in a year where a new Indiana Jones movie became one of the biggest box office bombs ever. Distribution Workshop has picked up international sales duties on “A Legend,” the Jackie Chan -starring film.
As previously reported, the film is now in production.
“A Legend” is now pitched as a $50 million sequel to the 2005 action romance “The Myth” that involved both Chan and director Stanley Tong. In previous communication, producer Bona Film Group said that the film was inspired by the earlier film.
The new picture will be the tenth time that Chan and Tong have worked together, following other titles that include “Police Story 3,” “Supercop” and “Vanguard.”
“A Legend” sees Professor Chen, an archaeology expert, notice that the texture on the artifacts discovered by his students during a glacier expedition, is strikingly similar to a jade pendant he had seen in his dreams. The pendant is connecting the realm of dreams to reality. Filled with curiosity, Chen leads a research team on a journey deep into the Glacier Temple,...

Michelle Yeoh has made the transition from action hero to Oscar winner, thanks to her acclaimed performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once”.
However, it was back in the 1980s that Yeoh got her start in Hong Kong action movies, with her martial arts skills and gymnastic abilities catapulting her to increasingly larger roles.

Yeoh’s first major stunt was for Hong Kong martial arts film “Yes Madam”, which involved flipping backward and smashing through glass — with her head! — while simultaneously hurling two thugs off a balcony.

Step out of your 6000 Sux, stop watching Tj Lazer re-runs, put down that flier from the Home Heart Centre, box up your game of Nukem. That’s right folks, we’re time-traveling to the not too distant future of 2043 Detroit in this episode of Revisited where Paul Verhoeven set his seminal, all time classic sci-fi action epic Robocop. The Dutch director showcases all of his trademark filmmaking skills and a penchant for graphic violence in the movie and it remains an often copied, but never bettered, example of visceral sci-fi filmmaking. Just think of entertainment empires that are now synonymous with the era in which they first emerged and have gained longevity in various forms – for example; Star Wars, Marvel, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and it’s hard to imagine a mid-budget movie such as Robocop having the same cultural appeal or influence. However, just like its hero,...

Michelle Yeoh, who made history by winning the best actress Oscar for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” last month, made an emotional return trip to her native Malaysia last week.
She visited her mother in time for the traditional Qingming Festival, or Tomb Sweeping Day, and stopped by the grave of her father who died in 2014. In an Instagram post on Wednesday she said, “Brought Mr. O home. Without my parents’ love and trust and support, I wouldn’t be here today.”

Michelle Yeoh has just won the Academy Award for best actress with her hysterically good performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, making Oscar history as first Asian woman winning that category. It has been a long way since the year 1937, when white actress Luise Rainer won the same category for sporting a “yellowface” and play a Chinese villager in “The Good Earth.” But the Malaysian-born actress had already built up a reputation in the 1980s and '90s as Hong Kong's kick-ass action star.

World-famous martial arts star Jackie Chan is returning to his Hong Kong roots in news that will have any action junkie positively buzzing with excitement. Longtime fans will hardly need a reminder of Chan's leading role in the "Police Story" trilogy of movies. Made with significant creative influence by Chan (who directed and co-wrote two of the films) from 1985 to 1992, the trilogy follows lead character Chan Ka-Kui, a local cop tasked with assisting in a major undercover sting operation. The franchise was actually rebooted twice with Chan's direct involvement, most notably in 2004 with "New Police Story." That film also starred Chan in the lead role and paired him with immensely popular popstar and actor Nicholas Tse. Now, the two are teaming up once again to deliver a follow-up to that film with "New Police Story 2."

I waited a long time for this,” Michelle Yeoh told me back in May last year, visibly emotional as she spoke. The revered doyenne of Asian cinema and stunt legend was speaking about recognition in general, which after decades in the industry, she was finally receiving in abundance thanks to her leading role in Everything Everywhere All At Once. There’s a good chance the Oscars were hardly on her mind then. The film and Yeoh were fantastic, but it was assumed that its early release meant Eeao would be forgotten come awards season.
And yet here we are, post-Oscars 2023, and the eccentric, unlikely comedy-drama has managed to dominate the ceremony. Thanks to Eeao, Yeoh has garnered praise and, in the past few months, some shiny trophies, too. She has picked up a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award for her performance. Michelle Yeoh is opening up about the discrimination she faced in Hollywood.
While the actress was a bonified star in Asia thanks to Hong Kong action flicks like “Police Story 3: Super Cop” and “Supercop 2,” it was her role in the James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies” that brought her to Hollywood’s attention.

Michelle Yeoh is no stranger to Hollywood. She’s been kicking ass and taking names on screens since 1994, then hit the big time thanks to the Hong Kong action film series Supercop. Since her early days, Yeoh is a bright star among many in films like Memoirs of a Geisha, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sunshine, Gunpowder Milkshake, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and, of course, Everything Everywhere All At Once. Her Hollywood breakthrough stems from her performance as Wai Lin in the Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. However, being a Bond girl isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Speaking with People, Yeoh says the role was a double-edged sword with several drawbacks to her career.

Michelle Yeoh was already a star overseas by 1997 thanks to popular Hong Kong movies like “Police Story 3: Super Cop” and “Supercop 2,” but it wasn’t until the James Bond tentpole “Tomorrow Never Dies” opened that year that Yeoh had her Hollywood breakthrough. The actor played Wai Lin, a Chinese spy who is highly skilled in marital arts and bucks every “damsel in distress” and “Bond girl” stereotype.

Michelle Yeoh has given her thoughts on Andrea Riseborough’s controversial Oscar nomination.
Riseborough was seen as a surprise inclusion on the list of 2023 nominees, earning a nod for her role in the little-seen drama To Leslie.
Her nomination followed a run of late-in-the-day endorsements from a number of A-list stars, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Charlize Theron, Amy Adams, Jennifer Aniston and Jane Fonda.
After the nominations were announced, the Academy said that it was “conducting a review of the campaign procedures around this year’s nominees” – before subsequently ruling that no action was to be taken on Riseborough’s nomination.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Yeoh, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, dismissed the suggestion that Riseborough’s campaign had operated outside of the rules.

International action legends Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh have been having a fun sibling-rivalry-esque friendship ever since their collaboration in Police Story 3: Supercop. When Michelle co-starred with Chan, she was determined to compete with him with her own fight prowess and death-defying stunts (which includes an infamous sequence where Yeoh jumps onto a moving train with a motorcycle). According to The Independent, Yeoh reveals that after her Oscar nomination for Everything Everywhere All at Once was announced, Chan had texted her to reveal that he had been approached to do the movie.
Yeoh tells CNN, “It was written for a man, when [directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, known collectively as the Daniels] set out to do this. They wrote it that way, with Jackie, and me as the wife. So the roles were completely reversed. I remember Jackie texting me and saying, ‘Congratulations! You know, your boys came to see me first.

Every kid of a certain age grew up wanting to be Jackie Chan. A legend in Hong Kong and most of the world from the late-seventies on, Jackie Chan also, at long last, became a superstar in North America after the release of his 1996 classic Rumble in the Bronx. Supercop, First Strike and more dubbed versions of his Hong Kong movies would follow, but it was 1998’s Rush Hour, which paired him with Chris Tucker, that made him a phenomenon in the United States. It was as if, at long last, the United States was let in on a secret the rest of the world already knew.
Jackie Chan emerged in the late nineties after a failed attempt to make him into a Bruce Lee clone. Never wanting to be a typical martial arts star, Chan opted to mix comedy and martial arts in a way that made him a...

Michelle Yeoh has revealed why Quentin Tarantino didn’t cast her in Kill Bill.
According to the director, his 2003 Uma Thurman-led action film took inspiration from the 1992 action movie Supercop, which starred Yeoh and Jackie Chan.
In a new interview with Town & Country, Yeoh explained why she didn’t land a role in Tarantino’s classic film, despite his admiration for her as an actor.
“I asked Quentin the same question,” she said. “He’s very smart. He said, ‘Who would believe that Uma Thurman could kick your a**?’”
While Yeoh wasn’t cast, she still credits him with encouraging her to come out of retirement after she suffered a serious back injury on the set of the 1996 film The Stunt Woman.
“I must say, Quentin, he’s persistent,” Yeoh said. “He is who he is today because he’s full of passion and love, so he wore me down.

Four years after the second installment to arguably Jackie Chan’ most popular franchise, the actor would reprise his role as police inspector Chan Ka-Kui in “Police Story 3: Supercop” (or just “Supercop” in some areas). Perhaps due to his busy schedule in front and behind the camera, working on other projects such as the equally successful “Armour of God”-films, Stanley Tong took over directing duties from Chan, who would still be a producer for the project. This collaboration turned out to be quite fruitful for both them, setting the foundation for features such as “Rumble in the Bronx”, which would give the actor the breakthrough with US-American markets after years of trying. Although the previous entries into the franchise had already set quite a high level when it came to action set pieces, “Supercop” would see Chan in the middle of some of the most ambitious and costly action scenes of his career,...
