What Siskel & Ebert Called the Worst Movie Ever Made
Image
You may have never heard of Frozen Assets, but the 1992 film did something few other movies in history can lay claim to: it made Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert regret (at least briefly) dedicating their lives to watching movies. That's a depressingly impressive feat for the At the Movies with Siskel & Ebert stars, two of the most respected and beloved movie critics of all time.

The two legends have certainly disagreed on some major titles, and their respective "favorite films" were often very different. The two were steadfast in their beliefs, with Ebert rarely convincing Siskel to change his mind about a particular film. But, they rarely agreed on a film as emphatically as they did with Frozen Assets. Both critics hated the movie so much that there is a visceral discomfort in the way they described it in an old episode of their television show.

The so-called "comedy" was directed by George Trumbull Miller,...

Siskel and Ebert Believed This Was the Worst Movie Ever Made
Image
There's something fascinating about failed art, and there's no question that 1992's Frozen Assets, starring Corbin Bernsen and Shelley Long, was a failure. It was universally panned by critics and audiences alike and completely flopped at the box office, bringing in only $376,000 on a budget of $5 million. And unlike other bad movies that have since gained cult followings, like Tommy Wiseau's The Room, Frozen Assets has been largely forgotten in the three decades since its release. Yet its existence raises interesting questions about what distinguishes a bad movie that's fun, like The Room, from a bad movie that's just bad, and whether there’s any value in preserving objectively terrible art.

Major Crimes Season Three DVD Giveaway
The third season release of Major Crimes is hitting May 26th, and I’ve got your opportunity to win one of three copies of the DVD!

The show, a spin-off of The Closer, has been doing well since it premiered, and the third season was the #3 scripted drama on basic cable.

Moreover, despite not kicking off all that well, it’s a show that has grown into itself, and found a more solid base of existence. The quality has grown in many respects, and the cases were far more interesting in the third season.

Mary McDonnell seems more comfortable, due in large part to the writing giving her a broader base of character to work with.

If you aren’t caught up, now is the perfect chance to get ready for the fourth season.

Take a look at more info on the season, and enter to win your copy!

Corbin Bernsen and Shelley Long in Frozen Assets (1992)
Are you one of those people who likes to make up their own rules to Monopoly? Our Ten Favorite Reviews From Siskel, Ebert, Roeper, and "At the Movies"
Roger Ebert
After more than 35 years on the air and hundreds of episodes, "At the Movies" -- formerly "Ebert & Roeper," formerly "Roger Ebert & The Movies," formerly "Siskel & Ebert," formerly "At the Movies" again, formerly "Sneak Previews" -- shot its final episode earlier this week for broadcast this weekend. In humble admiration for decades of outstanding work, we present our ten favorite reviews from the history of the show in no particular order.

"Cop and a Half" (1993)

Possibly one of the most infamous reviews of the Siskel & Ebert era, "Cop and a Half" was one of those delightful cases where the two not only profoundly disagreed about a film, but did so by speaking about it with far more intelligence and sincerity than its filmmakers ever likely intended. A lesser critic than Ebert would've been undermined by the images of precocious Norman D. Golden II firing a water pistol at Burt Reynolds'...

Prey and BullS*^#: A Movie Review
Canadian Movie PosterDirector: Oscar D'Roccster, and George Miller.

Writers: John V. Soto and Robert Lewis Galinsky.

Prey is a film from the production company Top Cat Films, which will release on DVD July 13, 2010. The film is known as The Outback in North America and the screener that was sent to this reviewer was actually from Top Cat Films. This is likely one company that wants its initial investment in this horror failure back. A quick note is required here to inform readers that Prey, despite what some sites states, was directed by the Queensland born George Miller (The Aviator, Frozen Assets) who walked out on the film in post-production (Scary). Director D'Roccster (likely a fake name) walked in to a cluster f*&^ of a film, which did not adhere to John V. Soto's (Crush) original script in anyway, shape, or form. The result is an incoherent, very loosely connected...

Film: Review: Finding Bliss
Call it the Frozen Assets Rule: If the one-joke premise of a comedy is accompanied—or begs to be accompanied—by the sound of a record scratching, avert your eyes. For those unschooled in Shelley Long’s cinematic misadventures post-Cheers, Frozen Assets stars Corbin Bernsen as a corporate executive sent to run a small-town bank—a sperm bank, that is. [Screeeeeech.] Along the same lines, Julie Davis’ dismal comedy Finding Bliss stars Leelee Sobieski as an award-winning Nyu film school graduate who, after months of directing (traffic on studio lots), finally lands a job as a Hollywood film editor ...
