    The Cast Was Terrific

I remember when they filmed several scenes using the huge home in the Fairview neighborhood of Birmingham, we were doing electrical setups for the film crew. The cast was friendly and very nice to all of us. We enjoyed having an opportunity to watch several scenes. I think of the film every time I pass through the area.

It was great to see when it came out on television, several scenes were shot around the Central Alabama area, one of the homes is located near Fairview Park and is still very well maintained. While it did have a soap opera style plot, it was an interesting story line with some unusual twists and turns. Especially for a mid 1980's made for TV drama.

Filmed in Jasper, Alabama - not Birmingham

This movie was filmed in Walker County (Jasper, Alabama), not Birmingham.

Walker County's primary industry was coal mining, up until the 1980's.

Jasper is also where Polly Holliday, George Lindsey, Glen Shaddix, Sandy Posey and Michael Rooker are from.

In the area's daily newspaper, The Daily Mountain Eagle, there is a story about Jerry Dollar, a local college instructor who, along with his wife, tutored many child stars - and were involved in this film.

Locals served as extras in the movie.

Jasper is in northwest Alabama, about 35 miles west of Birmingham on U.S. Highway 78, the highway that runs from South Carolina to downtown Memphis.

It is also about 45 minutes south of the legendary Muscle Shoals.

Visit the Muscle Shoals Music website, or the Alabama Music Hall of Fame site to learn more about this area.

Filmed in several areas around Bham

Only parts of the movie were filmed in Jasper. The early parts were filmed in Sayre Mine camp which is in Jefferson County right outside of Bham. The mansion scenes were filmed in the Hollingsworth house which is in Warrior, also in Jefferson county, so I think saying Bham is probably the best answer for where it was filmed. The entire area has is known for its mining, both coal and iron ore.

Great film, the house used in the childhood scenes belonged to my grandparents. I was eleven or twelve while the filming was going on and remember what an exciting thing it was to know the areas and some of the people that were taking part in making the movie. This area was also used to film the Burt Reynolds film Hooper.

    Roses are for Sharon Wyatt

If you're a soap opera lover, you'll be in your glory with this one. Granted, the situations are contrived and predictable at best. But it's not terrible! The talent involved raises it a notch or two above your standard soap fare. Lisa Hartman makes a spunky heroine. Bruce Dern is his usual brilliant self, but the real kudos go to General Hospital alumni Sharon Wyatt as the vindictive sister-in-law.(Can someone please tell me why this gifted lady doesn't get more parts?) She's nothing short of amazing, and her performance here is Emmy-calibre.

In short, there are worse ways to kill a few hours.
