Allison Russell performed a gorgeous, stripped-down rendition of her song “Nightflyer” Tueday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Joined on harmony vocals by Brittney Spencer and Brandi Carlile (who contributed her harmonies remotely), Russell delivered a thrilling version of the song, off the singer-songwriter’s debut solo album Outside Child.

Complete with a clarinet solo from Russell, the performance of “Nightflyer” showed off the mix of impressionistic and vulnerable personal songwriting on Russell’s outstanding new album.

Happy! Review: Syfy's Pitch-Black Shoot-'Em-Up Is a Wild Holiday Ride
Christopher Meloni
If your idea of Christmas cheer is a drunk hit man coughing up blood in a dive-bar bathroom to the sounds of “Jingle Bells”… well, Syfy has a holiday treat for you.

To be clear, the network’s wild new graphic-novel adaptation Happy! — debuting this Wednesday at 10/9c — is most definitely not for everyone. It’s an adrenaline-charged roller coaster of sex, drugs and graphic violence, with a wickedly cynical sense of humor to boot. It’s relentlessly in-your-face, and the faint of heart (or of stomach) need not apply. But it’s also one hell of a ride, with gleefully over-the-top action sequences…...

Rumorville: ‘Game of Thrones’ Creator George R.R. Martin’s Next TV Project Might Go Straight to Series
Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room. George R.R. Martin’s latest foray into TV made news in June when Syfy picked up an uncast pilot based on his novella “Nightflyers,” and its corresponding 1987 film. That pilot now looks to be getting a straight to series order with a boost from Netflix, who is rumored to be eyeing distribution internationally, second window domestically, and a role as co-producer. Negotiations are still in progress. When it was announced, no talent was attached, but Zane/Pillsbury Casting was signed on to find the pilot’s stars. No word if that team will remain with the project beyond original casting now that it appears to require more than just the inaugural episode.

Syfy Developing New Series Based On George R.R. Martin Novel
George R.R. Martin has a pretty hot brand right now. Game of Thrones has been absolutely killing it on HBO ever since its premiere back in 2011, and while one could chalk that up to the copious amounts of sex and violence, there’s no doubt that the series has its foundation in amazing characters and storytelling. Given the success of this series, as well as Martin’s experience in television as a writer and series executive producer, it was only a matter of time before some of his other properties got the small screen treatment.

TheWrap is reporting that Syfy is developing a supernatural thriller based on Martin’s novel Nightflyers (Which was adapted into a film back in 1987). In case you have no idea what the book is (which I’ll assume is most of you), the outlet describes it as follows:

“Set in the future on the eve of Earth’s destruction,...

Syfy Blows Up Its Brand, Orders ‘Krypton’ and ‘Happy!’ to Series As It Doubles Down on Genre
Nightflyers (1987)
Syfy is giving itself an extreme makeover. And as part of the network’s reboot, it has ordered to series the long-awaited Superman prequel “Krypton” to series, as well as an adaptation of the quirky graphic novel “Happy!”

The network is also developing an adaptation of the George R.R. Martin novella “Nightflyers,” and, as previously announced, has partnered with Blumhouse Television to develop a new TV chapter of the feature franchise “The Purge” (which will also air on USA Network).

To emphasize the changes, the network unveiled a new logo and look across its platforms. The name hasn’t changed (although that was discussed — including a return to the original Sci-Fi moniker), but now it’s in all-caps: Syfy.

Milla Jovovich Will Lead In the Lost Lands Based on George R.R. Martin Stories
If you couldn’t get enough of George R.R. Martin on the big screen over the weekend with the IMAX showings of Game of Thrones, the author’s work is heading to theaters once again. While the first two involve familiar elements to Got fans, like sorcery and dragons, the last contains space travel. It’s not entirely clear from the initial announcement, but I’m assuming Jovovich will play a role mashed together from main characters from each of these three stories, even...

Late Night Classics – Nightflyers
Space is the final frontier. There are so many mysteries in the heavens that Nasa will never find answers to that it’s sort of melancholy that so many of them will remain in limbo and never discovered. That’s where Hollywood comes in and comes up with their own theories about what lifeforms are out there. Nightflyers is kind of like an outer space tale written by Dean Koontz. Computers can be down right crazy! Just look at how dependent we have become of them. Nightflyers arrived at the height of the video cassette boom and introduced technological terror to a cast of familiar faces from the 80′s.

Jason Bene: Night of the Comet, The Last Starfighter and Mischief are all cult favorites, but I have always enjoyed Nightflyers more than them. What attracted you to this science fiction opus?

Catherine Mary Stewart: I thought it was an interesting script,...
