Jacob Elordi Only Knew About Elvis Presley From ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Before Starring in ‘Priscilla’
Image
Before starring as Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla,” Jacob Elordi was only familiar with the King of Rock and Roll from Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch.”

During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon,” Elordi sat down to discuss his role in the film, which centers on the life of Priscilla Presley (Cailee Spaeny) and her relationship with Elvis.

“The most I knew of Elvis was in ‘Lilo & Stitch,'” Elordi admitted. “Which is a lot, by the way.”

“Lilo & Stitch” follows Lilo (Daveigh Chase) and her friendship with an extraterrestrial creature she meets on the island of Hawaii, whom she names Stitch (Chris Sanders). Lilo, an avid Elvis Presley fan, teaches Stitch how to become a “model citizen” like the singer and, at one point, dresses Stitch up in a Presley-inspired ensemble. The 2002 animated film also features five of Presley’s hits,...

Motherland: Fort Salem’s Witches are Superheroes in All But Name
Image
Witchcraft on television has a longer history than most of its sister genres and has so far shown no sign of going away. In any given year there is at least one series exploring the pros and cons of the craft, whether it’s sisters who happen to be witches (Charmed), sidekicks coming up with a world-saving spell at just the right moment (The Vampire Diaries) or, as with new addition to the canon Motherland: Fort Salem, witches as a coordinated, terrorist-fighting machine.

The show, now available to stream in the UK on BBC iPlayer, comes out of the gate hard with an alternate world in which the Salem witch trials were averted by volunteering all future generations to fight the world’s wars. As we enter that reality, it’s the turn of three young witches all with different attitudes towards the cause. While one is eager to get started,...

It Came From The Tube: Midnight Offerings (1981)
By the early ‘80s, Melissa Sue Anderson was ready to get some dirt under Mary Ingall’s fingernails, and shed her squeaky clean image. Late in ’81 she would entertain horror audiences with her big screen turn in Happy Birthday to Me, but earlier that same year she stayed closer to home on the tube playing a big bad teenage witch in Midnight Offerings – a role which I’m sure Pa Ingalls would not approve of.

The telemovie premiered Friday, February 27th, 1981 on ABC. It’s neighbor CBS had the kings of Friday night, Dukes of Hazzard and Dallas going on, while poor old NBC had Nero Wolfe followed by that party animal David Brinkley. (Let’s just say the Peacock was still a few seasons away from working their way out of the cellar.) But ABC, for some reason, had always not only nurtured horror, but thrived on it – and...
