I thought this show wasn't bad. Sure it's a cheesy sitcom, and sometimes that is the relief I need. Don't take things so serious and it can be a fun watch. I haven't seen it for years, but I would enjoy watching it again.
I don't remember much about the show, except that Somers is an attractive actress, both of physically (of course) but more importantly as a person.
But this was part of an odd experiment where in the late 1980s, the powers that be, on NBC, tried to start "prime time" at 7:30 PM rather than 8PM.
I think they figured if they could rope a viewer in early they might be able to keep that viewer for the following shows.
Didn't work -- though interesting that Fox did something similar, successfully very soon after.

How do a sexy beautiful legendary actress like suzanne somers who was sexy and good in three's company reduced to junk like this, she's plays a deputy who's become a sheriff after the person dies and shenanigans and stupidity ensues, the performances are truly horrible, the writing is worthless, the teleplay is non existent and the dialogue is absolutely, positively wooden and worthless, what the hell is the show is all about, this has got to be the worst tv show of not only somers comeback career (thankfully she went on to make her real comeback in step by step), not only the worst show of 1987, but one of the worst shows ever made, this is junk 100%, glad this show is cancelled after 2 dreadful seasons
I Gave it a big fat F.

I loved this show, but then again I was only 8 years old. That is the mental capacity you need to have to enjoy this poor excuse for a TV sitcom. I am surprised that it lasted for more than one season. This could not have had really good ratings. With the high saturation of successful TV sitcoms in the 1980's, this one should have been red lighted after episode one. The set looked so cheap, the dialog god awful and the jokes not funny. I doubt that this would ever go to DVD. If it does then they should expect to lose money. I am not surprised because Suzanne Sommers couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. Don't get me wrong I like Suzanne (I enjoyed her cameo in Serial Mom), but she should stick to infomercials peddling crappy products.
This show is awful. Awful in a way that can't be described. It's not as boring as NBC's Wings, but awful in its very own way. The plot is that when a sheriff dies, his wife takes his place instead of his Deputy Sheriff who...might know how to do the job? The show tries to be feminist without being annoying but only succeeds in being feminist without logic: why couldn't a woman be a sheriff in the first place? But no, she has to be the wife who suddenly becomes a sheriff and gets into wacky situations.
Imagine Three's Company with only Somers and you pretty much got it. Impossible to get through. And I pray to God that the negatives to this show have been destroyed enough to prevent a future DVD release. The only shining point in the whole two years of this is the performance of George Wyner, who finally got his due in Mel Brooks' Spaceballs. That poor, poor man.
