Pixar's "Elio" was the unfortunate victim of bad marketing, which led to a lackluster box office performance. Though the studio has gotten back on its feet in recent years after a tough early era on Disney+ (and during the Covid-19 pandemic), with major hits like 2023's "Elemental" and 2024's "Inside Out 2," Pixar has still struggled to find the consistent financial wins that used to be a guarantee. Most of that has little to do with the quality of the studio's films, however, which have remained fantastic, and more to do with how Disney has positioned the animation powerhouse, as well as the larger film and streaming landscape. Elio is a great example -- a fun movie that flopped at the box office despite earning strong reviews from critics and viewers alike.
If, like most people, you missed the film at the box office, you'll soon have the opportunity to catch up at home.

When J. Hoberman placed game 6 of the 1986 World Series on his Village Voice year-end list, we had one of the first, most convincing attempts to enshrine live sports as cinema. And while a game can carry the compressed rise and fall, and dramatis personae, of a great narrative, you can further hone in on visual grammar: a televised match is also a spectacle of live editing––close-ups and masters seamlessly stitched together, rules of offscreen space and eyeline-matching also respected.
To make a UK-centric reference: Albert Serra’s new film Afternoons of Solitude is more akin to two hours of Sky Sports than you’d expect from the guy who once made Story of My Death. Following the rules, if not the spirit, of ever-festival-fashionable observational and direct cinema, we...

Kicking things off with a small but enticing update, following last year’s incredible cine-memoir It’s Not Me, Leos Carax is finally prepping a 2026 shoot for his first narrative feature since Annette. While not much is known about the project, a casting call confirms Léa Seydoux and Adam Driver will star in the Paris-set feature. Speaking of Driver: he’s also set to soon shoot James Gray’s Paper Tigers, in which Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller stepped in for Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong, respectively.
Last year, when we spoke to Albert Serra about his planned collaboration with Kristen Stewart for Out of This World, he seemed hesitant if the casting may come together and, indeed, it proved too good to be true. Variety now reports Riley Keough will lead the film alongside F. Murray Abraham and Liza Yankovskaia. The film follows “an American delegation traveling to...

Riley Keough has joined the cast of “Out of This World” directed by Albert Serra, the Spanish director whose 2022 film “Pacifiction” competed at Cannes and won a pair of Cesar Awards. Keough will star opposite F. Murray Abraham and Liza Yankovskaia (“Frau”).
Serra’s English-language film debut, “Out of This World” follows an American delegation traveling to Russia in the midst of the Ukrainian war to try to find a solution to an economic dispute. The project explores the decades-long rivalry between Russia and the U.S. While it will mainly shoot in English, it will also include some Russian dialogue. Kristen Stewart was previously attached to star in the movie.

Robinhood Box Office: Budget & Target For A Hit Verdict ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Nithiin and Sreeleela’s Robinhood has arrived in theatres today. Amid a decent buzz, the film clashed with another Tollywood biggie, Mad Square. This clash is expected to cause a major dent to Nithiin’s latest entertainer, and as far as the start is concerned, the effect could be already seen. But in the long run, will it be able to secure a clean hit verdict at the Indian box office? Let’s discuss it below!
Reception of the film
Directed by Venky Kudumula, the Telugu heist action comedy has opened to mixed responses from critics. While the performances and fun elements are praised, the film is criticized for being predictable and uninteresting in the second half. Even among the ticket-buying audience, word-of-mouth is mostly mixed. Some are calling it a fun ride, others are labelling it as a passable affair.

Snow White North America Box Office: Crosses One Mini Milestone ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot’s magnum opus, Snow White, is turning out to be a major dud at ticket windows. It was expected to do well considering the pre-release buzz around itself but unfortunately, the film is heading for a premature ending at the North American box office and it seems that even the $100 million mark will be missed. Keep reading for a detailed collection report!
Directed by Marc Webb, the live-action reimagining of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was theatrically released last Friday. Before making a domestic debut, the film opened in selected markets like France and Italy. Domestically, it opened on March 21. Poor reviews and word-of-mouth took a toll on the run, thus posting a disappointing total on the board.

Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, food, and favorite traditions. While The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless continue to make new memories for their fans, we’re taking advantage of the holiday to look back on some of the celebrations past from soaps we’ve lost over the years.
Cut It Out
For the last few decades of the show’s run, it wasn’t a Thanksgiving on As the World Turns unless the Snyder family was hunkering down to carve the old Hubbard squash. Enjoy this complete episode from 1994, and your glimpses of the Hughes, Stewart, Snyder, and Walsh families… along with a very young Jason Biggs, long before he got up close and person with an American Pie.
Children’s Table
The Martin family was there for the first episode of All My Children, and they were there for the last.

Ask nearly anyone to describe Mr. T. and you’ve got the same description: the mohawk, the gold jewelry, the tank top, the muscles…It’s so distinct that it must be planned. And it is. But we bet you couldn’t tell us the significance of any of it: what the mohawk and chains symbolize, what the “T” really means deep down. And we bet you couldn’t tell us Mr. T.’s real name if your mama’s life depended on it. Is it for Tender? Or Tough? Maybe a little of both, depending on if he’s spitting motivational phrases or ready to whoop some butt at the club.
But rest assured, every move of Mr. T.’s – ever since being discovered by Sylvester Stallone – has been calculated, whose presence and aura – despite being tied to one specific moment in time – remains unforgettable. And yet, we know so little about the man.

1980s sitcoms like She's the Sheriff, The New Adventures of Beans Baxter, and Eight Is Enough are now underrated and forgotten. Shows like Sanford, AfterMASH, and Mary tried to capture the success of their predecessors but failed to find lasting popularity. Too Close for Comfort transitioned to a more focused narrative, while Out of This World struggled to find its place in television history.
The 1980s were a groundbreaking era for sitcoms, with numerous shows making their mark on television. However, not all of these series have stood the test of time. Many 1980s sitcoms, despite their initial popularity and unique concepts, have faded into obscurity. These shows, which ranged from family-centric comedies to quirky fantasy series, often struggled with shifting audience tastes and changing TV landscapes.

Now that’s a legend. Missy Elliott blew the roof off Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Monday night in her historic Out of This World Tour — her first headlining tour ever. It was a celebration of her gold mind and its evolution through the years. But it was also a revelation of her impact and her one-of-a-kind artistic legacy, as her avant-funk hip-hop and R&b style has shaped the way pop music has sounded for the past three decades. Her last full album, The Cookbook, dropped nearly 20 years ago,...

Bob Booker, the veteran writer and producer whose crowning achievement was the hugely popular 1962 comedy album The First Family, which poked fun at President John F. Kennedy and won the Grammy for album of the year, has died. He was 92.
Booker died Friday of heart failure at his home in Tiburon, California, his family announced. He spent 75 years working in the recording industry and in radio, film and television.
Booker also teamed with George Foster to write the cult film The Phynx (1970), about a rock band who goes to Albania to rescue celebrities (among them Colonel Sanders and Leo Gorcey of The Bowery Boys) taken captive by communists.
He wrote and produced five seasons (1987-91) of the syndicated sitcom Out of This World, which starred Donna Pescow, Maureen Flannigan and friend Burt Reynolds, who as a favor agreed to voice the extra-terrestrial father on the show.

TV producer/writer Bob Booker, who spent 75 years working in television, radio, film, and the recording industry, died July 12 at his home in Tiburon, California, at age 92 from heart failure, according to his daughter, Laura Booker.
Booker was best known for the Grammy Award-winning album, The First Family,
In 1963, Booker, with partner Earle Doud, wrote and produced The First Family, a lampoon of President John F. Kennedy and his family starring Vaughn Meader. The album became the largest- and fastest-selling record in the history of the record industry, selling one million copies per week for the first six weeks and ultimately selling 7.5 million copies. The First Family went on to win the Grammy for Best Album that year.
JFK was known to have enjoyed parody, and when asked about the album, he replied, “I listened to Mr. Meader’s record, and frankly, I thought it sounded more like Teddy than it did me.

Steve Burton has been playing Jason on General Hospital for decades. He recently opened up about how his late co-star Stuart Damon helped shape his career. Keep reading for more about his relationship with the man who played his father on the soap.
From Jason Quartermaine To Jason Morgan
Steve Burton was just 21 when he took on the role of rich kid Jason Quartermaine on General Hospital. Despite his young age, it wasn’t his first acting credit. His breakout role was on the sitcom Out Of This World in 1987. A stint on Days of Our Lives as Harris Michaels followed, a role he briefly reprised in 2023.
In 1991, he joined General Hospital in a role he’d play off and on for over three decades. But he’s actually played two roles on the soap opera: Jason Quartermaine and Jason Morgan. In 1995, Jason Quartermaine was involved in a car crash that caused amnesia.

Not even 12 hours ago we learned Kristen Stewart had nabbed a new auteur in Panos Cosmatos, a wise choice by the ever-adventurous actress. Her other choice on May 2, 2024 is quite another level of intrigue: Albert Serra, the perpetual festival favorite whose Pacifiction was something of a breakout hit, yes, if not quite to a level anyone anticipated. (Anyone but the man himself.) Per Film Stiftung, Serra’s previously announced Out of This World has secured funding, coinciding with a planned 2025 premiere.
Out of This World will likely feature an uncharacteristic level of English dialogue for Serra. As the official synopsis goes: “An American delegation travels to Russia in the midst of the Ukrainian war to try to find a solution to an economic dispute linked to sanctions. Quite a bit of time has passed since the last TopSpin game came out, but after spending a few hours with TopSpin 2K25 it's amazing how quickly old reflexes can come back. The interposing 13 years between releases have given players tennis titles like Mario Tennis Aces, Tennis World Tour, and Matchpoint - Tennis Championships, but nothing has really topped TopSpin 4 as the best go-to tennis game. Any sequel after so many years obviously comes pre-loaded with big expectations, but thankfully 2K Games and Hanger 13 seem poised to meet them.
Last week, Screen Rant was invited to preview TopSpin 2K25 at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, CA, which also happens to be one of the playable courts in the game. In addition to getting some hands-on playtime with TopSpin 2K25, I was also able to speak briefly with Remi Ercolani,...

Over the last seven years or so, the ever more capitalized Catalan industry, much based in capital Barcelona, has driven into domestic co-production with other parts of Spain. One result: an exciting new generation of young directors and producers, often women, which have scored a Berlin Golden Bear (Carla Simon’s “Alcarràs”) and best lead performance.
The Catalan film-tv industry is now, however, in the throes of a gathering industry makeover which is showing its first fruits. One driver, as so often in Europe, is public sector funding.
In 2019, total allocated Catalan government audiovisual funding stood at €12.6 million ($13.7 million). It rose to €40.8 million ($44.5 million) in 2022 and will rise again to an estimated €50 million ($54.5 million) in 2024, if the Catalan Parliament approves the budget, says Edgar Garcia, director of the governmental culture industry unit Icec.
In response to ramped-up funding, Catalonia industry has grown vibrantly. 130 execs and talent, representing 80 companies, attend 2024’s Berlin Film Market.

Arte France Cinéma are throwing their support behind the new projects (which will drop in 2025) from Albert Serra, Hafsia Herzi, Kleber Mendonça Filho and a new project by Tarik Saleh which was flying under the radar. We just reported on Serra moving into English language film with Out Of This World – we can now confirm that filming will take place from June to July in Latvia. Having achieved the unprecedented feat of having a film in our top 20 of last year and the same film in our top five of this year with his astounding Pacifiction, expectations are certainly high for the next feature from Albert Serra.
It’s now been announced Serra will begin production this summer on his next film Out of This World, with a 2025 premiere in store. The project will find him tackling modern international relations head-on, as the synopsis reveals: “An American delegation travels to Russia in the midst of the Ukrainian war to try to find a solution to an economic dispute linked to sanctions. Out Of This World explores the eternal rivalry between Russia and the USA.”
“As is often the case, one of the year’s most compelling films comes in the form of one of its most unrelatable stories: the lonesome, lingering descent of a seasoned French...

Post masterwork Pacifiction (read review), it appears that Spanish filmmaker Albert Serra will stick to murky politics and scope once again for what is indeed his English-language project debut. If Kristen Stewart is available, then this would indeed be the project to join. Serra will be moving into production next summer, likely earmarking a Cannes 2025 showcase.

It's been nearly forty years, but people still remember "The A-Team." The action adventure series went on for five seasons, but stuck around in the public consciousness for much, much longer. People still remember the theme song, the cartoonish violence, the catchphrases. But although many viewers throughout the 2000s wanted a revival of the show, the TV series itself never came back.
Instead, we got a feature film in 2010 starring an updated A-Team, with the characters being veterans of the Iraq War instead of veterans of Vietnam. The film underperformed at the box office, however, and they never made a sequel. Unlike "21 Jump Street," a franchise where the later movies have now long-since overshadowed the TV show for most younger viewers, when people of all ages today think of "The A-Team," they're still almost certainly thinking of the show.
So what have the cast members been up to since...

When you tell folks you’re going to interview legendary magicians Penn & Teller, someone is liable to ask: “How are you going to do that? Does Teller even talk?”
If you have more than a passing knowledge of the pair — who have been hosting the magic game show Fool Us since 2011 — you’ll know what’s a silly question. Although, as part of their act, Teller keeps mum, in person the two are your classic goofball and straight man. Penn Jillette carries running jokes to their breaking point, in this...

Marc Fouchard’s Out Of This World (Hors Du Monde) is one of those films which will blow you away when you first see it, and which you will hesitate to watch ever again. It’s the story of Léo (Kévin Mischel), a shy, emotionally damaged man who seems constantly uncomfortable with the world around him. He finds relief only in composing music, and in killing, which gives him inspiration – but this is very much unlike most serial killer films. There is no glamour, no sense of power, no sexual titillation – just sadness and brokenness. When Léo meets a young deaf woman, Amélie (Aurélia Poirier), who is a dancer and listens to his music by pressing her face against the door of his taxi, he is intrigued by her, and a tentative relationship begins – but can he control his compulsions?...

New Jersey rockers the Smithereens have unearthed a “lost album” five years after the death of singer Pat Dinizio and nearly 30 years after they recorded it.

The beloved actor, who who left the ABC soap in 2021 after failing to adhere to its vaccine policy, has joined the second installment of Beyond Salem.
Though Gh fans certainly miss him as Jason Morgan, Burton couldn’t be more thrilled about reprising his role as Harris Michaels — a Dool character he originated in 1988 and is now reprising for Beyond Salem starting Monday. New episodes of Beyond Salem will drop each day through next Friday.
“Look, the circumstance [of his Gh departure] was tough and you know, that’s just the way it is,” Burton tells Deadline. “I’ll always be grateful for my time there. It was my family for so long. I grew up there and the fans have always been awesome to me.

Next month, John Coltrane’s label, Impulse!/Ume, will release Blue World, a new album by the legendary saxophonist. Recorded in 1964 and largely unreleased until now, the 37-minute session was intended as a soundtrack for Le chat dans le sac (“The Cat in the Bag”), a film by the Quebecois director Gilles Groulx. It’s been nearly a decade since she last appeared on the show, but Catherine Tate hasn’t stayed away from the world of Doctor Who for good. Since 2016, she’s been reprising the role of Donna Noble opposite David Tennant in Big Finish Productions’ The Tenth Doctor Adventures audio drama series. In her next outing, however, Tate will be going at it alone, meaning Donna will be the star for once.
Big Finish has announced that a new boxset titled Donna Noble: Kidnapped! is on its way. The four stories will see the Doctor nowhere to be found with Donna left to pilot the Tardis by herself and go around saving the universe in his stead. She’ll even get her own companion in the form of Nat (Niky Wardley), who’s described as “everything Donna isn’t – a career woman, happily married, successful, and confident.”

With mirrored walls and hundreds of holiday string lights, it was hard not to imagine that the costars were getting into the spirit of the holiday season . . . in space, of course. We've been following Jen and Chris on their delightful press tour, which has been taking place since the beginning of December. Of course, the whole affair hasn't been without its bumps and shenanigans. While Chris has consistently and hilariously been cropping Jen out of his photos, Jen dealt with a bit of controversy after sharing a story from the Hunger Games set in Hawaii. Passengers hits theaters Dec. 21, so there should be plenty more fun in the weeks to come. Related:Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence's Chemistry Is...

Led by the Disney/Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” and “Trolls” (20th Century Fox/DreamWorks Animation), the Top 10 box office continues to be strong. And with three new wide releases, totals could be 20 percent over last year.
Those new films — “Arrival” (Paramount), “Almost Christmas” (Universal), and “Shut In” (EuropaCorp) — won’t top the second-week blockbusters. Even if “Doctor Strange” and “Trolls” each drop 50 percent, they’d gross $42 million and $23 million, respectively. None of the new titles are likely to cross $20 million, though “Arrival” and “Almost Christmas” could come close.
This weekend gets an added boost from Veteran’s Day on Friday, a Federal holiday that gives many school kids the day off. That will boost all grosses, but particularly “Trolls” and also the already well-received “Doctor Strange.”

Mel Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge” was a surprise addition to this year’s Venice Film Festival, instantly provoking curiosity as to how his first directorial effort since 2006’s “Apocalypto” would be received amid so many other autumnal prestige pictures. The answer, at least so far, is pretty well — early reviews from Venice tend toward the favorable.

Variety‘s Owen Gleiberman draws attention to Gibson’s battle scenes:

Starring Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal, the film is based on “Tony and Susan,” a novel by Austin Wright, and follows the story of an art gallery owner who is haunted by her ex-husband’s novel, a thriller that she interprets as a revenge tale. Here’s what the critics have to say.
IndieWire’s Ben Croll gave the film an A-, writing that Ford’s ambitious second film is a “two-hander with a bite”:
“‘Nocturnal Animals’ is an impressively ambitious effort, one part mean Texas thriller, one part middle-age melodrama, and makes for a meta-textual riddle that is almost as pleasurable to reflect...
