Fight Back with David Horowitz

For Those Who Always Wanted to Squeeze the Charmin

Oh, what a fun and informative show this was! Basically a live-action edition of Consumer Reports, each week _Fight Back_ would feature David Horowitz taking products manufacturers to task, forcing them to live up to the claims made in their commercials. Could a Dodge Ram really tow one pick-up while carrying another. Would that carpet cleaner actually remove grape juice stains? Could that suitcase withstand a blow from a sledge hammer?

It was always suspenseful to this 13-year-old kid as he waited to find out if there really was truth in advertising. And I must say, this program was more effective on me as a consumer than any TV commercial. If something survived the challenge on the show, that was the brand I recommended to my mom. Every time. Too bad it's not around any more. I would have loved to watch him reconstruct the Golden Gate Bridge to race Sebrings.

The tension mounts!!!!!!!!

One of THE greatest programs of the 1980's and early 90's, Fight Back was a consumer information program laced with comedy sequences. Who could forget the commercial challenge of The Clapper in 1985? The show's producer (Lloyd Thaxton) donned a lab coat, and created the character "Dr. Webley Freon"....and then procedes to lay under a conveyor belt containing one cream pie. Just watching Horowitz and "Freon" clap The Clapper on and off before the pie hits "Freon" was an absolute hoot!!!! I was given the opportunity to communicate with Mr. Horowitz, and he is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.
