The Stifmeister is coming to ABC for the upcoming comedy series Shifting Gears. The Milf hunter, Seann William Scott, joins Tim Allen and Kat Dennings for the multi-camera project, which goes into production in November. Scott boards the series for a lead role that replaces the character Nick from the pilot episode.

According to the show’s description, Tim Allen plays Matt, the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter, Riley (Dennings), and her teenage kids move into his house, the actual restoration begins. Scott plays Gabriel for the series, a family friend of Matt and Riley who works at the shop with Matt. Scott’s Gabriel replaces Nick from the pilot. Initially, Froy Gutierrez played Nick. Nick was Matt’s son and Riley’s younger brother, who spent his days coding video games. Nick is no longer a part of the show as it moves into production.

Writer-director Rod Blackhurst has wrapped production in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on horror film “Dolly.”

Blackhurst is the Emmy and Critics Choice nominated director and producer of Netflix original documentary “Amanda Knox” and the Tribeca Festival audience award-winning “Here Alone.” “Dolly” follows his acclaimed crime-thriller “Blood for Dust,” which premiered at Tribeca and won the narrative competition award at San Diego.

“Dolly,” described by the filmmakers as a blend of New French Extremity and 1970s American horror, follows Macy, a young woman abducted by a deranged, monster-like figure who wants to raise her as their child.

The cast includes Fabianne Therese (“John Dies at the End”), Seann William Scott (“American Pie”), Ethan Suplee (“Babylon”), Russ Tiller (“Blood for Dust”) and Michalina Scorzelli (“Shoplifters of the World”). The film also introduces current Nwa TV Champion Max the Impaler, aka The Non-Binary Nightmare, in the titular role of Dolly.

Lily Tomlin, one of three stars in the iconic 1980 movie 9 to 5, recently told People magazine that she felt “rejected” after the announcement of Jennnifer Aniston’s remake. The film, which starred Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin and featured the iconic Dolly Parton theme song, was a comedy masterclass about the corporate world riddled with sexism.

Earlier this year, Jennifer Aniston’s production banner Echo Films announced that a reboot is in the works at 20th Century Studios. In a recent interview with People, Lily Tomlin spoke about the sequel written by Oscar-winner Cody Diablo.

While Lily Tomlin wished Aniston the best with the reboot, the Grace and Frankie star also noted that she felt ‘rejected” by the announcement.

Exclusive: The Crown’s Imelda Staunton will lead a revival of the classic Jerry Herman-Michael Stewart Broadway musical Hello, Dolly! into the Andrew Lloyd Webber-owned London Palladium next summer.

Echoing words in composer and lyricist Herman’s titular number, the show’s producer Michael Harrison observed that “it’s so nice to have Imelda back on stage where she belongs.”

Directed by Dominic Cooke, the production — with Staunton playing matchmaker Dolly Levi — will begin performances at the Palladium on July 6 for a strictly limited 10-week season ending September 14.

The Palladium, designed by Frank Matcham, opened on a site close to Oxford Circus in 1910, the year King Edward VII died. It was to become a favorite venue of the Royal Family, often hosting the annual Royal Variety Show in the presence of the late Queen Elizabeth II, great-granddaughter of Edward VII.

While the theme of Fantastic Fest this year is occultism/Satanic panic, the “junior” theme of the fest could easily be The Wrath of Troma, given that the opening night film of the festival was the long-awaited remake of The Toxic Avenger (review) and the studio is also bringing us Heidi Moore‘s Kill Dolly Kill. Dolly Parton has developed a new Netflix anthology series called “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings,” which dramatizes many of her beloved songs. The final episode of the season, titled “These Old Bones,” is being submitted at this year’s Emmys under the TV Movie category.

Parton recently spoke with Gold Derby managing editor Chris Beachum about working with Netflix, what it’s been like adapting her various songs and her feelings on the loss of Kenny Rogers. Watch the exclusive interview above and read the complete transcript below.

Gold Derby: Dolly, thank you, first of all, for joining us again. It’s always a pleasure to see you.

Dolly Parton: Well, I’m happy to always do anything for you and for Netflix and to promote any of my products that I can and I’m very proud of the “Heartstrings” series. So thanks for having us on.

The last time legendary entertainer Dolly Parton had a project for television, she and her team were nominated at the Emmys for Best TV Movie. That bid in 2017 was for “Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love,” a story based on her early life in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

She has now returned to television with “Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings,” an eight-part anthology series based on stories from her songs, including “These Old Bones,” which is entered this summer on the Emmy ballot in the TV movie category. In our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video above), she reveals, “When we got Kathleen Turner, we were so lucky to get her. She did an incredible job of playing the character of Old Bones. It’s really about this old lady in the mountains, a clairvoyant that knew everything that was going on… People would come for advice and information.

Dolly Parton’s homespun tales of her humble East Tennessee upbringing and soul-baring tunes of love and loss like “Coat of Many Colors,” “Jolene,” and “I Will Always Love You” will be revealed in an entirely new way with the November 17th release of Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics.

Published by Chronicle Books, the volume is described as both a visual memoir and annotated songbook, revealing the personal stories and intimate details behind the lyrics of 175 of Parton’s songs through never-before-seen photographs, memorabilia and reflections on the songs in her own words.

GLAAD has announced the nominees for the 31st GLAAD Media Awards, honoring Lgbtq representation in film, television, news and entertainment in 2019.

Jerry Herman, the Tony-winning composer and lyricist whose musical anthems for Hello, Dolly! and Mame created and shaped a new golden age of Broadway, has died. He was 88. 

Herman died Thursday in Miami of pulmonary complications, his goddaughter Jane Dorian told The Hollywood Reporter. "He was an extraordinary man and musical genius and will be missed dearly," she said.

Things were looking up on Tuesday night as we saw a tick up for many shows — and for others, not so much. ABC’s The Conners was up a tenth in fast affiliate ratings with a 1.1 in the adults 18-49 demographic and 5.76 million viewers. It was the same story at CBS with FBI which received a 0.9 rating and 8.84 million viewers while NCIS earned a 1.1 rating and 10.99 million viewers. On the downside, Fox’s The Resident stumbled two tenths to a 0.6 and 3.52 million viewers.

The remainder of CBS’ night included NCIS: New Orleans, which was up from last week. Over at ABC, The Conners led into Bless This Mess which ticked up a tenth while Black-ish (0.5, 2.57M) slipped a tenth. Rounding out the night was Mixed-ish and Emergence which both held steady.

Meanwhile, Empire (0.6, 2.46M) took a one-tenth dip and at NBC, The Voice was down...

Harvey Sabinson, one of Broadway’s legendary press agents and a former long-time executive director of The Broadway League, died on April 18 of natural causes at his residence in Sarasota, Florida. He was 94 years old. Sabinson capped a 50-year career in the theater when he was honored with a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1995. That year he stepped down as executive director of the League of American Theatres and Producers, (now known as the Broadway League) a national trade association of theatrical producers, presenters and theatre operators. Sabinson joined the organization early in 1976, when it was known as the League of New York Theatres and Producers, as director of special projects. Prior to this appointment, he spent 30 years as a theatrical publicist, beginning shortly after his discharge from Army service during World War II, during which time he received a Purple Heart. Broadway will dim its lights for Carol Channing tomorrow night at 7:45 pm Et, The Broadway League announced today.

“Carol Channing personified everything we love about American musical comedy: big, funny and joyous. To see her hold an audience in her thrall was a master class in star power,” said Thomas Schumacher, Chairman of The Broadway League. “Hello, Dolly! opened 55 years ago tomorrow. She always was famous for her timing.”

The decision to dim Broadway’s lights is made by the League’s Committee of Theatre Owners. For Channing, the lights will dim for one minute on Wednesday, January 16 at exactly 7:45pm.

Channing’s Broadway credits include Hello, Dolly! (1995 Revival), Hello, Dolly! (1978 Revival), Lorelei (1974), Four on a Garden (1971), Hello, Dolly! Broadway’s Pretty Woman: The Musical passed the $1 million box office mark for a second consecutive week — no doubt the beginning of a habit — playing seven previews, including one heavily-comped tribute performance for the late Garry Marshall.

The previewing musical, at the Nederlander Theatre starring Samantha Barks and Andy Karl, grossed $1,008,726, a drop of about $60,000 from the previous week, reflecting the August 2 memorial performance. Marshall co-authored the musical that is set to open August 16 and, of course, directed the original 1990 film.

Broadway’s overall box office of $36,391,385 for the week ending August 5 (Week 10 of the season) was down about 8% from the previous week’s $39.6M. The Week 10 total is 14% bigger than last year’s $32M, with this year’s average ticket price of $128 about 8% heftier than last year’s $120.

Pretty Woman played seven previews to nearly Sro audiences and Mean Girls set another house record, but the Go-Go’s musical Head Over Heels just couldn’t find its footing as it opened to sales as weak as its reviews during Week 9 of the Broadway season.

Overall, summertime Broadway was anything but wilted for the week ending July 29, taking in a strong $39,633,285 in total box office. That’s a jump of nearly 8% over the previous week’s $36M, and a big 26% over the same period last year.

Total attendance for the week was 295,685, a solid 95% of capacity and a 5% hike over the previous week. Those 295,685 theatergoers spent an average $134 for their seats, compared to the $119 average last summer.

When folk rocker Brandi Carlile decided to record a cover of her groundbreaking 2007 album The Story, she set her sights on just one voice to sing the title track: her idol Dolly Parton.

The 71st annual Tony Awards nominations were unveiled on Tuesday morning live from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. Announced by Jane Krakowski and Hamilton alum Christopher Jackson, the honorees were led by Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 with 12 nominations, including Best Musical and Best Leading Actor for Josh Groban's role in the War and Peace-inspired story.
