Kati Outinen in Ombres au paradis (1986)

Quotes

Ombres au paradis

Edit
  • Nikander: Remember that chick from the supermarket? Guess where she is now?
  • Melartin: Where?
  • Nikander: Sleeping in my bed.
  • Melartin: Get back there then.
  • Nikander: I can't.
  • Melartin: What's keeping you?
  • Nikander: Horror, fear and this job.
  • Nikander: [Nikander and Ilona are in a restaurant] Do you find it dull here? With me, I mean?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Why?
  • Nikander: Just asking?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Take it easy, Nikander! Everything is OK today. I don't know about tomorrow. Maybe the weather will turn, or something. What do you want from me anyway?
  • Nikander: Who? Me?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Yes, you!
  • Nikander: Do you want to have more wine?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Answer me!
  • Nikander: I don't want anything from anyone. I'm Nikander. Ex-butcher, now a carbage truck driver. Bad teeth and stomach, liver is hanging on! More than I can say about my head. No use asking what I want.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: I only asked.
  • Nikander: You're welcome!
  • Ilona Rajamäki: It's cold in here.
  • Nikander: I haven't paid attention to it.
  • Co-worker: I've got a slogan already: "Reliable garbage disposal since 1986."
  • Nikander: But that's now.
  • Co-worker: That's why it catches the eye.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: How much for a single?
  • Hotel receptionist: 300 marks, with breakfest!
  • Ilona Rajamäki: And without?
  • Hotel receptionist: The same.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Il'll take it.
  • Hotel receptionist: No way.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Why?
  • Hotel receptionist: We're full.
  • Nikander: [Nikander meets Ilona and the third man] How are you, old man?
  • Third Man: Alright.
  • Nikander: Want me to smash your face?
  • Third Man: No.
  • Nikander: Get lost then, we've got to talk.
  • Nikander: The door's locked.
  • Melartin: It usually is in jail.
  • Pelle: [in Swedish] Do you have a cigarette, friend?
  • Nikander: [in English] Not for you.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Let's go!
  • Nikander: Where?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: For a drive, out of Helsinki.
  • Nikander: What, now?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Yes.
  • Nikander: Ok. But I must see a friend first.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Why?
  • Nikander: That's none of your business.
  • Shop Steward: No one can predict how the market forces change. Sometimes you have too much stuff, sometimes too little. But I can say that I'd had to keep you here with us.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Sure.
  • Shop Steward: But there's nothing I can do about it. I just sit here and watch sales graph. There is a new supermarket somewhere around here with all their special offers and so on... So our sales will go down temporarily. You're the only one on probationary period and that's why you have to go. The supermarket's is a merciless machine. I hope you understand.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Your daughter finishes school in two weeks. She needs a job. You don't fool me.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Don't you know how to knock?
  • Nikander: It's my apartment.
  • [first lines]
  • Nikander: Friday!
  • Co-worker: [co-worker is offering Nikander a drink] You want?
  • Nikander: I'm driving.
  • Co-worker: Listen, Nikander. We've been a team quite a while. But I've been doing this for 25 years. I'm getting tired and so is my heart.
  • Nikander: What's the matter with it?
  • Co-worker: What ever.
  • Co-worker: I've got an idea - my own company. Five trucks to start with...
  • Nikander: What does it end?
  • Co-worker: The sky is the limit. The state and the banks will back us. I know everything about this game, but I'm not going to die behind the wheel.
  • Nikander: Where, then?
  • Co-worker: Behind a desk. And I need a good foreman.
  • Nikander: Be there at 6:00am tomorrow. You'll be on probation for a week.
  • Melartin: Great. Now I've just got to be brave and call my wife.
  • Nikander: Tell her you got a job.
  • Melartin: It won't help. She'll hit me anyway.
  • Nikander: Then why keep drinking?
  • Melartin: Makes me feel good.
  • Nikander: Wait a minute.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: I don't think it will work out.
  • Nikander: What won't?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Anything.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: I thought I'd go to Florida, but all the planes were booked. Anyway, I couldn't get the cashbox open. My aunt's been to Florida. She says there's nothing there. All she saw was some Finns and Donald Ducks.
  • Ilona's Girlfriend (ystävätär): What do I say if anyone ask for you?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Don't say anything.
  • Ilona's Girlfriend (ystävätär): Okay.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Say I went back where I came from.
  • Ilona's Girlfriend (ystävätär): I thought you were a local?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: No.
  • Ilona's Girlfriend (ystävätär): Where are you from then?
  • Ilona Rajamäki: Down the street.
  • Nikander: These are sheets and a towel.
  • Ilona Rajamäki: I can see that.
  • Melartin: My mother-in-law's babysitting tonight.
  • Nikander: Oh yeah?
  • Melartin: The four of us could go out together.
  • Nikander: Where?
  • Melartin: The classic thing: a movie first, then a bar, get drunk.
