My review was written in October 1987 after watching the movie on Lightning video cassette.
With "Party Camp", producer Mark Borde returns to the territory he explored in 1979 with "Summer Camp", a Chuck Vincent-directed comedy which briefly shared the same title but not the b.o. Results with Ivan Reitman's smash "Meatballs". New pic, under director Gary Graver, is yet another "Meatballs" clone with t&a added.
Episodic format is set at Camp Chipmunk where Andrew Ross is a horny counselor whose dream girl is camp lifeguard Kerry Brennan. Mostly stillborn gags revolve around sexy counselor Jewel Shepard (who overacts throughout), dominatrix-nurse April Wayne and computer nerd Corky Pigeon. Excuse for a plot cornily pits Ross' squad of nerdy campers called squirrels versus a bunch of campes of the jock variety called falcons. Surprise: the nerds get their revenge.
Tech credits are fine and the cast goes through the paces with vigor. Pic opened on a regional basis this past summer via Vestron's Lightning Pictures subsidiary.

party camp is one of the many 80's sex comedies that i really like, but are bashed by critics. this movie is a fun underdog movie. it's a lot like revenge of the nerds. it isn't as good as revenge of the nerds, but it's still good. party camp is a very funny movie. i give party camp *** out of ****
The gorgeous Jewel Shepherd plays strip poker by a camp fire with some young campers. She ends up losing on purpose just so she can show off her body. It's hilarious to watch the guys' reactions as she whips off her shirt and sits topless in front of them. This scene alone is worth seeing this film.
Yeah. This is more of a flashback-sentimental review.
I loved these kind of movies when I was younger and Party Camp was more or less the template of said movies.
A bit of boobs, underdogs, and yet... intelligence. Sort of...
Either way, it's a movie I loved back in the 80s (or maybe early 90s). A teenager with too much hormones to cope with. Haha!
Anyway, I watch this movie again, and it's still a fun "party camp" movie. Like the horror movies where someone ends up in a cabin with something nasty going on. This is more of a movie with all the nasty filth going on. The comedy version of a horror movie I guess.

There are movies that are leaders, and movies that are followers.
"Meatballs" was a leader. And here's one of its followers.
"Party Camp" is about as interchangeable as any of its brethern who plumbed the depths that "Meatballs" (the original) had so successfully mined. Of course, that one had Bill Murray. So, what does "Party Camp" have?
I'm glad you asked that question.
Jewel Sheperd has made these flicks her bread and butter, and what a side dish SHE provides! Even as an innocent (wink, wink) girlfriend to a rich twerp (Cribb), she provides that sultry steam she gives to all her parts. And yes, guys, she shows (if you know what I mean and I think you do). My gosh, that smile of hers could melt through titanium.
What? Oh yeah, the movie. Nothing special as I said; every cheap joke is aimed for and hit (at about crotch-level). And eternal teen Jayne is good for a laugh or two. But instead of a sense of humor there's just nudity, lame sex jokes, more, nudity, a soft-core dream sequence, a sex symbol nurse simply for (CLOTHED!) leering purposes, even more nudity....
Hmmm... Maybe it's a good idea Bill Murray WASN'T in this.
Two stars. For Jewel, naturally. Plenty of "Camp", but not much of a "Party".

- GoofsWhen Jewel Shepard plays strip poker in the woods with a group of boys, she ends up topless in her panties. But when they are frightened by a guy in a hockey mask and run, she is suddenly topless and wearing shorts even though she didn't have time to pull them on.
