Golden Harvest had wanted Hung to perform fight scenes in the film, but he refused, rationalising "My character was mentally r*t*rd*d, mentally disabled, so how can you ask me to fall down and suddenly become well again? And fight? They knew my fighting skills and wanted me to be part of the action but I thought that would have completely destroyed the tone of the film, the principles behind the film.".

The main fighting villain in the film, Dick Wei, was a Tae Kwon Do champion in the Taiwanese army.
In Germany this movie is known as part 3 of the 'Powerman' trilogy with Soif de Justice (1984) being part 1 and Le Flic de Hong-Kong 2 (1985) being part 2. Le Flic de Hong-Kong (1985) ('Tokyo Powerman' in Germany) is not part of this imaginary series. Despite the fact that the movies share many of their main and supporting actors as well as staff members the characters and story lines are totally unrelated.
