If there's one thing The Epic Games Store is good for its free games and next week's option is perfect for die-hard football fans who aren't willing to drop $60 on a new release. In the realm of sports video games, the likes of Madden and MLB: The Show are extremely popular but neither boasts the following of EA Sports Fc, previously known by its more commonly-used title FIFA. While the latest entry in that hyper-successful franchise won't be free for a while yet, an even deeper football game should hopefully scratch a similar itch for fans.
Over on The Epic Games Store, the company has revealed that Football Manager 2024, a surprisingly recent game that still retails for $60, will be free to keep for all users between September 5 and 12. That's a week-long period where the immersive title can be added to one's library completely free of charge. While it may not...

Xbox 360 online store services will shut down on July 29. Games on the platform will receive heavy discounts before closure. Purchased games will remain playable with backwards compatibility on newer consoles.
With past console generations falling to the wayside as the industry progresses, there's sad news for longtime Xbox supporters coming on July 29, albeit with a silver lining. With the current console generation heading into its fourth year, support for past consoles, devices, and services is beginning to dwindle as companies shift their focus towards newer releases. Unfortunately, this means that some functions of older consoles are inevitably facing discontinued service, rendering players no longer able to use online services on those consoles.
Typically, when consoles move onto new generations, support for devices from the previous generation will continue for some time, before eventually being discontinued. Usually, this occurs somewhere around two generations later - while the old console may still receive some minor updates,...

I had a vague memory of a movie that I saw a long time ago about an ancient Samurai warrior who wakes up in the modern day after being frozen in ice for over 400 years. I’ve been trying to remember the name of this movie for a long time and I finally found it!
The movie is a 1984 film called Ghost Warrior and it centers around a 400-year-old samurai warrior named Yoshimitsu Taga, who is found in a cave and entombed in ice. He ends up being transported to the United States in a secret operation and revived through cryosurgery. He then escapes and ends up going on a killing rampage in Los Angeles! The description says that he is “forced to battle for his freedom, dignity and life.”
The tagline for the movie is: “100 Years Ago He Was A Legend . . . Today, He's A Living Hell.”
Do any of you remember seeing this movie?...

First person shooters. Yeah, lets just say that I don’t get along with modern-day Fps games. Give me Doom or its sequels, any games from the Unreal or Quake franchises. Hell, even the likes of Hexen and Duke Nukem 3D. Now Those are first person shooters I an get behind. But Call of Duty and its ilk? Not my cup of tea. Don’t get me wrong though – I still play Fps games, but mainly those that allow for more stealthy combat. Like sniper-style Fps games. Like the Sniper Ghost Warrior series… The latest of which is Sniper Ghost Warrior 3
Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 sees you take the role of an American sniper named Jonathan North, who is dropped into enemy territory in northern Georgia, nearby Russian borders – to not only help the resistance but also discover what has happened to Jonathan’s brother, Robert.

There’s absolutely no doubt that in real life, being a military sniper requires an incredible level of attention to detail. It isn’t all about relying on your gadgets to tell you if the shot you’re about to take will be successful and very rarely is there a time for second chances. You don’t just get dropped into position, take the shot, and then get airlifted away, either. Getting to the safest location possible so that you can take out your targets is half of the battle.
With this in mind, City Interactive have – for the first time in the franchise’s history – taken Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 into open world territory. Set in modern-day Georgia (the country, not the state), the game throws you into the middle of some warring factions who are set on starting another Cold War. Your goal of course, is to stop that from happening,...

Two fantastic Samurai shockers come to Blu-ray. For years this writer had heard nothing but negative things about Kevin Connor’s 1982 Japanese/American haunted house opus The House Where Evil Dwells and that, coupled with the fact that the premise just didn’t seem that interesting, caused me to steer clear. I eventually forgot about the picture…

Happy 2016, everyone! I sure hope you received some shopping money this holiday season, as this first week of horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases is a big one and we’ve got a lot to look forward to. Two of my personal favorites of 2015 are making their way home this week to Blu-ray and DVD—Deathgasm and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse—and Universal is serving up a double dose of terror with their releases of The Green Inferno and The Visit.
Scream Factory is also keeping busy with their double feature Blu-ray of The House Where Evil Dwells / Ghost Warrior and Over Your Dead Body, the latest from Takashi Miike. Other notable releases on January 5th include The Inhabitants, Wrecker, Condemned, and Kill Game.

Next Tuesday, Takashi Miike's Over Your Dead Body and the macabre martial arts double feature The House Where Evil Dwells / Ghost Warrior will come out on respective Blu-rays from Scream Factory. Ahead of their January 5th debuts, we have high-definition clips and trailers from the films.
Over Your Dead Body Blu-ray: "A beautiful actress (Kô Shibasaki of 47 Ronin and Battle Royale) plays the protagonist in a new play based on a legendary ghost story. She pulls some strings to get her lover cast in the play, although he's a relatively unknown actor. With the cast in place, rehearsals for the play, about an abusive relationship and a grudge, begin. But off stage, some begin to develop their own obsessions. Trapped between the play and reality, they are horrified to find that a real grudge can cross the blurred line between reality and fantasy. Will love flourish? Or has it already turned hideously dark?...

Ahead of its appearance at Gamescom in Cologne at the beginning of next month, developer Ci Games has unveiled an extensive 20-minute gameplay demo for Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 – in fact, the same one that was shown behind-closed-doors during E3.
Narrated by Lead Narrative Designer Jess Lewbow, the developer noted that the tactical shooter franchise has sold more than 5.5 million copies since its inception back in 2010. Fast forward half a decade and we’re now standing on the edge of the third installment, and Lewbow touched upon the series’ transition from its humble roots to a bona fide triple-a blockbuster.
The third entry into the series will be its first full-fledged triple-a title, featuring open-ended wartime environments and a non-linear narrative to give snipers the freedom and choice necessary to execute the advanced missions that tactically-minded gamers yearn for.
It’s understood that Ci Games will be bringing a brand new...

The following preview is based on hands-off impressions, where members of the press – We Got This Covered included – were shown a behind-closed-doors gameplay demonstration of Sniper: Ghost Warrior.
I’ll admit that I never paid much attention to the Sniper: Ghost Warrior series because I broke one of the basic rules of life: never judge a book by its cover. Since the cover of this book looked like military wank along the lines of Medal of Honor, I was quick to never pick up the series. Unfortunately, it looks like I’ve been missing out on some intense action, because the preview shown by Ci Games for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 was fantastic, full of tense moments and a surprisingly tight story focus.
The demo shown began with a quick background explanation: you’re a soldier stuck behind enemy lines in Georgia as a new Cold War engulfs the world. As a sniper,...

Lords of the Fallen dev Ci Games’ has unveiled Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in the first half of 2016.
Built “from the ground up” with the new hardware in mind, the third iteration in the cult shooter series will take the clandestine action to Eastern Europe, where players will take up arms as a sniper caught amongst a war between three rival factions. It’s not exactly reinventing the wheel, but Ci Games has assured fans that Ghost Warrior 3 will offer up an element of non-linear play, as well as more liberating, Sandbox-styled gameplay across vast maps.
The studio is yet to unveil any official imagery from the game, nor have they released any footage, but given that the title won’t be ready for duty until 2016, the lack of information is wholly understandable.

Alien Rage, which was previously titled Alien Fear, is set to be an Unreal 3-powered sci-fi Fps full of human versus alien action.
Warring over an asteroid containing ultra-powerful and rare element, Promethium, the human race is hell-bent on destroying the rock after it as taken over by the Vorus, and that means plenty of frantic blasting with an array of powerful weapons.
The game also saw a Facebook page surface online, but both the page and the official trailer were pulled, suggesting a bit of a mix up with release dates. It's currently unclear if the announced release...

If you, like us, once relished walking a video store's aisles and picking up giant VHS clamshell cases of ridiculous-looking sci-fi action movies with titles like Hell Comes to Frogtown, Immortal Combat or Ghost Warrior, you're going to get a massive smile pressing play on the trailer for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. Sadly this isn't a trailer for a movie, but game developer Ubisoft is clearly turning to the past for inspiration here. This is its version of an '80s movie where a ragged soldier has to save the world. In fact, Ubisoft even hired Terminator and Aliens star Michael Biehn to voice the main character Sgt. Rex Powercolt, a cybercommando born from "the toxic ashes of Vietnam War 2." If none of the words in that sentence make you happy...

Considering that I believe the stealth missions of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare franchise are some of the best the games have to offer, I came to Sniper 2 with some high expectations that on the whole didn’t disappoint. However there are a few holes in both the story and the gameplay that brought it down a notch. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 follows Captain Cole Anderson on three missions, varying from urban combat in Sarajevo, the tropical jungles in Burma and the mountains of Tibet. Applying realistic bullet physics, players need to factor in distance, wind and bullet drop when sniping targets, which is assisted by a red dot that calculates all these variables for you. If you want a proper challenge, put the game on maximum difficulty and you have to judge for yourself.

Microsoft’s Gears of War: Judgment debuted in the top spot on Ukie GfK’s all formats top 40 chart for the week ending March 23rd, knocking Tomb Raider (which dropped 44 percent in week-over-week sales) down into second place, after the reboot scored two straight weeks as the best-selling game in the UK.
Despite the number one debut, Gears of War: Judgment did stumble a bit out of the starting block. The game sold only one fourth the number of copies in the UK that Gears of War 3 sold during its first week — although some of that can be explained away by Judgment having three less days during its launch week. Still, the failure to at least match the sales of the previous title is a disturbing trend that has hit many sequels over the past year.

Crystal Dynamic’s Tomb Raider marked its second week in a row as the best-selling video game in the United Kingdom for the week ending March 16th, despite dropping 72 percent in week-over-week sales and having to fend off the release of three high-profile titles; Sony’s God of War: Ascension, Activision Blizzard’s Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and City Interactive’s Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 (which landed in second, third and fourth place respectively).
Square Enix has not provided an updated sales count for Tomb Raider, however, the publisher confirmed that over one million people had played the game within the first 48 hours after it launched. This second week in a row best-seller status in the UK seems to indicate that Lara’s rebooted adventure is an official success.

The modern Fps wouldn't be the same without the headshot. But are one-hit kills right for games, James wonders...
The release of Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 has us thinking about videogame combat mechanics. Specifically, the idea of the one-shot kill. When one bullet means the difference between success and failure, how can the potential for an instakill affect the way we play - and indeed, is it actually a good thing?
In most shooters, the easiest way to get an instant kill is to go for a headshot. Depending on how tactical a game it is, you may have to use a high-powered weapon, such as a sniper rifle, while in others a simple pistol will suffice. Sometimes it can be mitigated by a helmet, or the type of ammo used - but what usually matters isn't the equipment you choose, but the skill and...

With Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 on the horizon, James provides a rundown of his favourite sniping videogames...
Slow your breathing. Prepare your aim. Time the moment of decision perfectly. And then, when you're done, put in the PayPal details and wait for the post to arrive. Yes, the closest most of us can get to actual sniping is nipping in on an eBay auction at the last second - but thanks to videogames, there's a way we can all experience the same thrill of long-range power over life and death that air traffic controllers must feel every day.
Sniping is a skill that many videogames do, but which few do well. Early Fps games like Doom and Quake concentrated more on fostering a quick-paced arcade atmosphere than rewarding stealth and accuracy. But as gaming AI became more sophisticated, video resolutions higher and simulations more accurate,...

Snipers are usually known for their accuracy. I mean, if you really want to get down to it, that’s the only thing they’re really known for. Their entire job comes down being able to hit a target from a pretty big distance. It takes precision planning and marksmanship to make sure that a plan comes together perfectly and that they hit the mark perfectly. It’s impossible to tell just what type of game Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 will turn out to be, but I think it’s fairly safe to say precision isn’t exactly its forte.
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 was originally supposed to release way back in August of 2012 before being pushed back towards an October 9th release date, supposedly to separate itself from the other realistic sniping simulator on the market: Sniper Elite 2. However, by July it was already delayed again until January 15th 2013. While there...

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 has been delayed. Again. This time, it’s being pushed back all the way until January 15th 2013. There hasn’t been any word given on why, all we know is that the official website updated with the new date and was somewhat emphatic about it. They even used an exclamation point!
To be honest, I’m not 100% sure what to make of this. The initial delay that pushed the game to October was rumored to have been a result of trying to put a bit of time between it and the release Sniper Elite V2. I can only guess that the latest delay is trying to give it a bit of distance from the onslaught of massive titles that release during the fall and hope that the game will fare better if given some less strenuous competition.
I guess the only thing I can say for sure...

There are certain films where you can’t help but wish you’d been a fly on the wall in whatever room where the brainstorming for the plot occurred. In the case of Ghost Warrior, you can’t help but feel someone read an article about the discovery of a caveman frozen in ice, and then began fantasizing about how much cooler it would be if, instead of a caveman, the frozen person was a samurai or a Viking. At which point, the mind starts overflowing with hypothetical situations. What would then happen if the frozen samurai was unfrozen in modern times? How would he survive in a modern city? How would he react to gang violence? Would he pledge allegiance to a master, or be a ronin (technically, his master is dead)? Maybe these thoughts haven’t crossed your mind, but they did to Tim Curnen and Charles Brand,...

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.
